[00:00:05]

THE FIRST ITEM IS APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING.

IF YOU'LL LOOK OVER THOSE QUICKLY, IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY READ THEM WELL, I'LL APPROVE THE MINUTES.

WAS THAT EMOTION? I HAVE A NICE FORT YET.

SHE'LL DO IT.

I WANT TO BE SURE EVERYBODY SAW THEM.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS OR ADDITIONS TO ADD TO THE MEETING MINUTES? IF NOT, DO I HEAR A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED? I MAKE THE MOTION.

WE APPROVE THE MINUTES AS READ.

DO I HEAR SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR.

SAY AYE.

AYE.

I WAS LIKE SAM.

OKAY.

UH, THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

THIS ROLLS AROUND PRETTY QUICKLY.

IT SEEMS LIKE, BUT WE HAVE A, UM, I GUESS WE JUST HAVE TWO POSITIONS.

DON'T WE? NOW, SINCE WE DON'T HAVE NETTLES THE CHAIR AND THE VICE CHAIR, CORRECT.

OKAY.

I'LL TAKE ANY NOMINATIONS FOR CHAIR FOR THE BOARD.

I NOMINATE BETTY HINTS TO BE CHAIR FOR CHAIR.

I SHOOK ON IT.

ANY OTHER, ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS? ARE THERE ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS? IF NOT, DO I HEAR A MOTION THAT A VIDEO BE ELECTED BACK ELEVATION.

I'LL MAKE A MOTION.

THAT DADDY BE ELECTED.

OKAY.

ALL IN FAVOR.

SAY AYE.

AYE.

THAT WAS LIKE SIGN.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

THAT WAS DONE.

APPRECIATE IT.

THE NEXT ITEM IS THE ELECTION OF THE VICE CHAIR.

DO I HEAR A NOMINATION THERE? THERE'LL BE SHY.

WE'LL TEARY.

AREN'T YOU? THE VARIOUS PRISON.

I'M THE CURRENT VICE CHAIR.

WELL, WHY DON'T WE JUST SECOND I ACCLAMATION.

UNLESS SOMEBODY'S GOT A HOT TOPIC.

WELL, WE HAVE TO ASK FOR ANY SAFETY.

ANYBODY HAS ANY OTHER NOMINATION I SEARCHED.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS? IF NOT, DO I HEAR A MOTION THAT WE ELECT VARY BY ACCLAMATION? YOU WANT TO? OKAY.

LYNN, LINDA HAS THE MOTION.

DO I HEAR SECOND? ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE.

AYE.

I WAS LIKE SIGN.

OKAY.

TERRY, YOU'RE THE NEW VICE CHAIR.

THEN WE HAVE THE ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION.

AND THE FIRST ITEM IS TO DISCUSS BOARD MEMBER APPOINTMENTS.

AND REAPPOINTMENTS THAT IS IN YOUR MINUTES.

UH, KAREN, YOU WANT TO TALK, SPEAK TO THAT? YES.

SO GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

UH, WE ARE A FULL BOARD, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE.

IT HAS BEEN AWHILE.

SAY TONIGHT WE HAVE A COUNCIL MEMBER.

UM, BASS APPOINTED MR. CHARLES, MS. SALWAY, UM, TO THE BOARD AND MR. CHARLES, THIS IS HIS FIRST BOARD MEETING HERE.

UM, CHARLES, I DON'T THINK YOU HAD A CHANCE TO MEET KATHLEEN.

THIS IS KATHLEEN.

CHIZEK OUR ASSISTANT OR ADMINISTRATIVE PUBLIC SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR.

I'LL GET IT OUT.

AND JUST THE SECOND HE CAME AND TOURED AROUND THE CENTRAL LIBRARY AND GOT TO MEET DIFFERENT STAFF MEMBERS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

AND WE REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

THEN, UH, COUNCIL MEMBER VIERA HAS REAPPOINTED DOROTHY MCALLISTER TO THE LIBRARY BOARD AND MAYOR PRO TEM.

DYLAN HENDRICK HAS REAPPOINTED TERRY HSA, PEGGY TO THE LIBRARY BOARD AND ALL OF THAT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED.

SO WE WERE A FULL BOARD AGAIN, RIGHT? YEAH.

WE CAN GO AROUND AND INTRODUCE, UM, BOARD MEMBERS TO MR. CHARLES.

UM, SINCE THIS IS HIS FIRST BOARD MEETING, YOU WANT TO DOROTHY, IF YOU'D LIKE TO START, WE'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES FOR CHARLES I'M.

DOROTHY MCALLISTER.

I MOST DIVISION DOROTHY.

YES.

OKAY.

CAROLYN I'M TRELLIS CO-CHAIR AND I'M IN DIVISION EIGHT.

MUST MEET YOU.

AND I'M

[00:05:01]

BETTY HAYNES AND I'M THE MAYOR'S APPOINTEE.

HI CHARLES.

WELCOME.

I'M TERRY AND I'M A DISTRICT SIX DISTRICTS.

SKIP SEVEN APPOINTEE.

EXCUSE ME.

I LIVE IN DISTRICT SIX.

I'M EDWINA GARNER.

UM, I'M DISTRICT FIVE, COUNCILMAN ALBAN'S APPOINTEE.

NICE TO MEET YOU.

I'M LISA DISTRICT THREE MEETING CHARLES FROM SAY AWAY THAT AGAIN.

I, I EXPECTED THAT SAY AWAY.

OKAY.

CAN YOU SAY IT THAT WAY? YOU CAN SAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY.

MAYBE I'LL GET GOOD AT IT.

WELL, SLOS OFTEN.

SO ANYWAY, I'M SAYING GOOD WAY TO REMEMBER THAT.

CALL ME CHARLES.

I'M USED TO BE CALLED MISS THE CHILD OR YEAH.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN GARLAND? HOW LONG IN GARLAND? 25 YEARS.

ALMOST AS LONG AS I HAVE.

YEAH.

OKAY.

NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING DATE IS OUR NEXT ITEM TO TALK ABOUT.

UM, I BELIEVE SABRINA TALKED ABOUT AT OUR LAST BOARD MEETING THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL DATES THAT WE NEEDED TO, UM, RESCHEDULE BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT OBLIGATIONS THAT THE COUNCIL HAS AND THAT THIS ROOM HAS.

UM, SO IF, IF YOU ARE ABLE TO TONIGHT TO COMMIT TO NOVEMBER 17TH, THAT WOULD BE OUR NEXT SCHEDULED BOARD MEETING TO MOVE IT FROM ITS REGULARLY SCHEDULED TIME TO NOVEMBER 17TH.

IT'S A WEDNESDAY.

AND WOULD YOU REPEAT THAT DATE? NOVEMBER 17TH, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH REMINDER.

YES.

WE APPRECIATE ALL THOSE REMINDERS.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY OBJECTION TO THAT? NOPE.

NO.

GREAT.

OKAY.

THE NEXT ITEM IS CONSIDER APPROVAL OF REVISED CIRCULATION POLICY.

SO I, I, I NEED TO MOVE ONE OF THESE ITEMS LETTER F UP TO, TO LET HER SEE A LITTLE BIT, UH, THE GIST OF IT IS, UM, WONDERFULLY WITH THE PASSING OF FISCAL YEAR 20 TWOS BUDGET.

WE ARE OFFICIALLY A FIND FREE LIBRARY.

NOW, THE BOARD OR THE COUNCIL, I'M GETTING ALL MY WORDS MESSED UP TODAY.

UH, CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THAT MEASURE.

SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT BECOMING A FINE FREE LIBRARY.

AND AS SUCH, WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR, UM, INTEGRATED LIBRARY SYSTEM, WHICH IS SEARCY DYNAMICS TO, UH, GO THROUGH SOME DIFFERENT MEASURES TO, UM, GET EVERYTHING IN THE SYSTEM THE WAY IT NEEDS TO BE, TO BE ABLE TO GO FIND FREE FOR, UH, PEOPLE WHO ARE RETURNING LIBRARY MATERIALS, BUT ALSO TO TAKE OF ANY FINES THAT WERE ALREADY ON PATRONS ACCOUNTS.

UM, PREVIOUS TO OCTOBER 1ST, BECAUSE ALL OF THAT'S GOING TO BE, UM, WIPED AWAY OR FORGIVEN.

UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THOUGH THAT WE, UH, NEED APPROVAL ON AND NORMALLY I WOULD NOT ASK FOR APPROVAL THE SAME NIGHT AS, UM, AS AN ITEM PRESENTING THIS, BUT ACTUALLY SABRINA, CAN I ASK OR WE'LL PASS THESE AROUND PLEASE? YES.

OUR, UM, OUR CURRENT PRACTICE IS WHEN AN ITEM HAS BEEN CHECKED OUT ON A PATRON'S LIBRARY CARD.

UM, YOU HAVE 21 DAYS WITH THAT ITEM.

YOU HAVE SEVEN DAYS.

UM, IF YOU DO NOT RENEW THE ITEM, YOU DON'T BRING THAT ITEM BACK AS OF DAY 22, IT BECOMES AN OVERDUE ITEM.

THE WAY WE HAVE DONE IT IN THE PAST IS IF YOU

[00:10:01]

HAVE NOT RENEWED OR BROUGHT BACK THE ITEM WITHIN 60 DAYS, YOU WERE CHARGED THE FULL PRICE OF THE ITEM, PLUS A PROCESSING FEE BECAUSE WE'RE ASSUMING IT'S LOST AND GONE FOREVER.

AND WE WERE GOING TO CHARGE THE PATRON FOR THAT.

WHAT I AM REQUESTING TO DO SINCE WE HAVE BECOME FUN FREE.

UM, I WANT TO MOVE THAT 60 DAY PERIOD UP A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT.

IF IT'S, IF YOU CHECK IT OUT AT SEVEN DAYS, YOU DON'T RENEW IT.

UM, OR LET ME START OVER.

IF YOU CHECK IT OUT, IT'S NOT DUE BACK FOR 21 DAYS, YOU DON'T RENEW IT.

UM, I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE MARKED AS LOST AT SEVEN DAYS, INSTEAD OF WAITING 60 DAYS FOR THAT TO HAPPEN, WE'RE GOING FINE FREE, OR WE ARE FINE FOR YOU.

SO IF YOU RETURNED THE ITEM, YOU'RE NOT BEING CHARGED ANY LATE FEES FOR IT, BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME KIND OF MEASURE, UM, THAT HELPS, UH, HELPS PATRON TO ENCOURAGE THE PATRON TO RETURN THAT.

SO IT WOULD BE MOVING IT FROM 60 DAYS TO SEVEN DAYS.

SO FOR CLARIFICATION, DOES THE 60 DAYS START FROM DATE OF CHECKOUT OR IS IT IT'S FROM DATA DUE DATE FROM OVERDUE DATE? SO FROM, FROM DAY 21, THE COUNT UP TO 68 YES.

OR, OR WE START, WE START COUNTING DAY 22, BASICALLY.

OKAY.

FOR BOOKS FOR DVDS, IT WOULD BE DAY EIGHT, A LITTLE FASTER.

RIGHT.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

YEAH.

AND IF THE PATRON BROUGHT BACK THE ITEM, UM, THAT WAS OVERDUE, THAT THEY'D BEEN CHARGED FOR THAT FULL PRICE OF THE ITEM.

PLUS THE PROCESSING FEE IS, IS TAKEN OFF THE ACCOUNT.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY THAT, THAT, UH, FEE, UNLESS THEY TRULY HAVE LOST OR DAMAGED THE ITEM, IF THEY'VE LOST OR DAMAGE THE ITEM, YOU DO HAVE TO PAY THAT LAST, UH, THAT FULL PRICE OF THE ITEM.

PLUS THE PROCESSING FEE THAT DOESN'T GO AWAY.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? I'M NOT REAL CLEAR ON ABOUT THE SEVEN DAYS OVERDUE.

YOU STARTING THAT WITH YOU.

EXPLAIN THAT ONE MORE TIME.

SURE.

UM, ONE SECOND, WHEN WE WERE CHARGING LIBRARY FUNDS, ONCE THE ITEM HITS 60 DAYS OVERDUE, YOU WOULD BE CHARGED THE FULL PRICE OF THE ITEM PLUS THE PROCESSING FEE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS COMING BACK.

UH, I WANT TO MOVE THAT 60 DAY PERIOD UP SINCE WE ARE FINE FREE NOW.

AND INSTEAD OF WAITING 60 DAYS, WE ASSUME IT'S LOST AFTER SEVEN DAYS OF IT BEING OVERDUE.

IT'S JUST CUTTING DOWN THAT TIME AND IT CAN BE SEVEN DAYS, 14 DAYS, BUT IT, IT NEEDS TO BE REDUCED FROM 60 DAYS TO HELP, UM, ENCOURAGE PATRONS TO BRING THEIR, THEIR MATERIALS BACK.

AND DID, DID TERRY CLARIFY THAT AT THE SEVEN DAY STARTS AT THE END OF THE NORMAL 21 DAYS? I BELIEVE SO.

AND DURING THAT TIME, YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF THAT 21 DAYS, THEY CAN, THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RENEW AN ITEM.

UM, IF THE ITEM IS NOT ON HOLD FOR SOMEBODY ELSE, SO THEY HAVE THE, THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP THE BOAT LONGER.

IT JUST HAS TO BE CHECKED OUT, UM, AND NOT OVERDUE.

UM, SO THERE'S NO, WHILE WE'RE NOT, UH, HAVING OVERDUE FINES, A BOOK CAN STILL IN THEORY, BE OVER OVERDO IT BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED AFTER IT'S A 21 DAY DUE DATE OR A 21 DAY CHECKOUT PERIOD.

UM, IF THEY HAVEN'T RENEWED IT, THE KEY IS, I'M GLAD YOU SAID THAT ABOUT RENEWING IT.

THE KEY IS THAT AT THAT SEVEN DAY, IT BEING OVERDUE THAT PATRON CAN'T GO BACK INTO A LIBRARY AND CHECK OUT ADDITIONAL MATERIALS.

IT STOPS THEM FROM CANNOT.

IT WOULD STOP THEM FROM BEING ABLE TO DO THAT.

AND SO THAT HELPS THEM SAY LIKE, NOPE, WE NEED TO BRING THOSE MATERIALS BACK.

GOOD THAT BACKEND, WE DON'T WANT THEM CREATING THEIR OWN LIBRARY AT HOME.

AND PATRONS CAN, YOU CAN CALL IN WITH YOUR LIBRARY CARD AND RENEW YOUR LIBRARY MATERIALS.

YOU CAN USE THE LIBRARY APP TO GO IN AND RENEW, GO ONLINE, COME IN.

YOU KNOW, YOU JUST WENT TO SELF-CHECK MACHINES.

THERE ARE MULTIPLE WAYS THAT PATRONS CAN COME IN OR CONTACT US TO BE ABLE TO RENEW THOSE ITEMS. AND LIKE KATHLEEN SAID, THE ONLY WAY AN AUTUMN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE RENEWED IS IF SOMEONE HAS PLACED A REQUEST ON THAT ITEM AND THEY'RE WAITING FOR IT TO COME IN, OR YOU'VE RENEWED IT SIX TIMES AND YOU'VE HAD

[00:15:01]

YOUR SHARE OF IT AND THEN YOU HAVE TO BRING IT BACK.

SO THOSE ROLES WOULD STILL APPLY.

WELL, I WAS A LITTLE FOGGY ON WHAT DIFFERENCE IT MAKES IF IT WAS SEVEN OR 20 OR 60 DAYS.

BUT I SEE NOW THAT IT, KATHLEEN EXPLAINED IT MUCH BETTER THAN I, BUT I CAN'T CHECK ANYTHING ELSE OUT.

RIGHT.

JUST TO MAKE SURE I'M CLEAR.

SO RENEWABLE MAX.

YES.

MA'AM THEY FIND IT.

YOU ONLY HAVE THE BOOK MEMORIZED BY THE END THEM, WELL, IT'LL BE A TEST, RIGHT.

UH, DO YOU SEE ANY PROS OR CONS TO TWO 14 DAYS VERSUS SEVEN DAYS? I, I DON'T, BUT I JUST WONDERED IF THERE WERE INTERNAL CONVERSATIONS.

I, I PERSONALLY, I THINK THERE'S BEEN SOME DEBATE BEHIND THE SCENES, I THINK SEVEN DAYS, OR I PREFER SEVEN DAYS OVER 14 DAYS.

I THINK 14 DAYS YOU CAN DO A LOT OF DAMAGE WITHIN 14 DAYS AND IT'S SEVEN DAYS.

NOT THAT YOU CAN'T DO DAMAGE, BUT I THINK IT'S JUST A LITTLE BIT, UM, PROVIDES A LITTLE MORE STRUCTURE AND STABILITY FOR, UM, FOR US AND BEING ABLE TO GET THOSE MATERIALS BACK AND, YOU KNOW, UH, A CONSEQUENCE, IF YOU HAVEN'T BROUGHT THOSE MATERIALS BACK, WELL, THERE HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF CONSEQUENCES, YOU KNOW, SINCE YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY UP THAT NOW, I WILL SAY, UM, OUR MARKETING TEAM CRYSTAL PUT TOGETHER, I THINK WITH KATHLEEN, UH, UM, SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY PUT OUT TO THE PUBLIC ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT GOING FIND FREE.

AND 98% OF THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY VERY POSITIVE AND SUPPORTIVE ABOUT GOING FINE FOR YOU, WHICH IS A GREAT THING.

IT'S GOING TO HELP A LOT OF FAMILIES.

AND, BUT ONE OF THE INITIAL, UH, COMMENTS WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT, WAS THAT CONCERN ABOUT, WELL, WHAT'S GOING TO MAKE PEOPLE BRING IT BACK.

SO THE LIBRARY IS JUST GOING TO KEEP REPLACING BOOKS AND HOW MUCH IS THAT GOING TO COST? SO I THINK THAT THAT BEING A CONCERN, UH, AS LONG AS WE EDUCATE PEOPLE AND IT IS GOING TO BE EDUCATING PEOPLE WHEN YOU GO FROM THE 60 DAYS TO THE SEVEN, UM, AS LONG AS WE DO THAT AND PEOPLE GET INTO THAT, UM, I THINK IT'LL AFTER AN INITIAL BUMP, PROBABLY IT WILL BE ABLE TO GO FINE.

IT'LL JUST BE THAT'S WHEN IT, WHEN IT IS, I EITHER HAVE TO RENEW IT OR I HAVE TO RETURN IT.

AND AGAIN, YOU HAVE EVERY, WE WILL WORK WITH YOU IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY TO RENEW THAT, THAT MATERIAL.

AND WE HAVE MATERIALS RETURNS THAT ARE 24 7 AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS, TOO.

SO, AND THEY'RE STILL IN, THEY'RE STILL LIBRARY ELF TOO.

THAT HELPS REMIND YOU OF, YOU CAN PUT AS MANY CARDS ON THERE.

IF YOU HAVE, YOU CAN PUT EVERY MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY, THEIR LIBRARY CARDS ON THERE, AND YOU WILL GET EITHER TEXT MESSAGES OR EMAIL MESSAGES SAYING THIS BOOK IS DUE AND YOU CAN SEE WHOSE CARD WHAT THE TITLE IS AND WHEN IT'S DUE.

AND SEVERAL DAYS AHEAD OF TIME, IT WILL TELL YOU THAT TWO, THAT IS A HANDY LITTLE THAT'S THE REQUEST TONIGHT IS TO, TO AMEND OUR POLICY FROM BEING A 60 DAY TO A SEVEN DAY.

WELL, Y I HOPE IT WORKS.

I THINK THE ONES THAT MAKE ME MAD, OR THE LITTLE BITTY BOOKS THAT DISAPPEAR OFF THE SHELVES AND YOU DON'T KNOW, THEY GONE, I'VE FORGOTTEN.

SO IT'S A LITTLE BITTY BOOK AND I REALLY LIKE WHAT'S IN IT ICY OR ROCKS THE PAGES FOR MY RECORD.

AND GIVE IT BACK TO YOU FOLKS.

I DON'T KNOW THAT WE CAN SOLVE THAT.

I'VE READ THAT BOOK ON THE ANCIENT HISTORY OF LIBRARIES AND IT WAS VERY FASCINATING.

I REALLY ENJOYED IT, DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS.

OKAY.

NOW, DO WE REALLY HAVE A BIG PROBLEM THAT PEOPLE NOT RETURNING THE BOOKS? WE DO THE VAST MAJORITY OF OUR, OUR PATRONS RETURN THE MATERIALS, UM, ON TIME, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT LATE, BUT, UH, I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT PERCENTAGE OF THE MATERIALS THAT DON'T GET RETURNED, BUT IT'S

[00:20:01]

RATHER SMALL CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO CHECK OUT AND RETURN THEIR MATERIALS AND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO, UM, PAY FOR LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS AS WELL.

THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE AND DO THE RIGHT THING.

I WAS GOING TO SAY, THAT'S TRUE.

I SHOOK MY HEAD WHEN SHE ASKED THE QUESTION, IT IS TRUE.

WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, THAT IT IS A SMALL AMOUNT, BUT WE DO HAVE, UH, A, A NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT, THAT DON'T.

AND CURRENTLY THEY ARE BEING CHARGED, UH, THE OVERDUE FINES UP TO A MAXIMUM.

AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ELIMINATE WITH THIS IS THAT SOMETIMES WE THINK THAT IT GETS TO A POINT THEY REACHED MAXIMUM, ESPECIALLY, UH, IF THEY'VE GOT A NUMBER OF BOOKS OR IF THEY'VE GOT A STACK OF CHILDREN'S BOOKS AND WE'D RATHER GET THE BOOK BACK.

AND IF IT, IF IT GETS TO BE TOO MUCH, THEN IT, THEY MAY JUST DECIDE.

I'D RATHER JUST NOT GO TO THAT LIBRARY.

I GO TO ANOTHER LIBRARY SYSTEM AND WE'RE HOPING THAT HAVING ALL OF THESE MEANS OF BEING ABLE TO RENEW, BRING IT BACK, EVEN IF IT GOES TO LOST, IF YOU HAVE IT AND IT'S IN GOOD CONDITION, WE'LL TAG IT BACK.

AND THOSE FEES GO AWAY, UM, THAT WE WILL ACTUALLY, UH, GET MORE ITEMS BACK.

AND THAT EXPLAINS ANOTHER THING.

WE ARE A FINE FREE LIBRARY, BUT IT WAS NOT A FREE, FREE, RIGHT, BECAUSE IT'S DAMAGED MATERIALS AND LOST MATERIALS.

WAS WE STILL CHARGED FOR THIS AND CONSUMABLES TO PRINT JOBS, COPY JOBS STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THOSE.

SO AM I CORRECT IN THINKING THAT THIS IS THE, UH, UPDATE TO THE CIRCULATION POLICY? YES, MA'AM.

OKAY.

I MOVE THAT.

WE ACCEPT THE PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE CIRCULATION POLICY, UM, MOVING FROM A 60 DAY POLICY TO A SEVEN DAY POLICY.

ANY MORE DISCUSSION? NOT DO I HEAR SECOND.

OH SECOND.

OKAY.

ALL IN FAVOR.

SAY AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

ALL OPPOSED LIKE SIGN.

OKAY.

DO YOU WANT TO GO BACK NOW AND PICK UP WHERE WE, YES, MA'AM OKAY.

IT WOULD BE LETTER D D NOW THE ONLY AGENDA.

OKAY.

SO WE'RE READY TO LOOK AT THE DEBT, RIGHT.

POLICY IS GOING TO PRESENT THAT.

YES, I WILL ACTUALLY SAY, I THINK, UM, WE NEED TO REMOVE THIS ONE FROM THE AGENDA TODAY.

UM, AND THAT'S MY FAULT, BUT I NEED TO REDUCE SOME OF THE, THE, UM, LANGUAGE THAT SEND THIS PARTICULAR POLICY, UH, SINCE WE'VE GONE FINE FOR YOU, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S STILL REFERENCES FUNDS IN SOME OF THE, UH, THE LANGUAGE IN THIS.

SO THIS WILL BE COMING BACK NEXT MONTH IN NOVEMBER.

I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT.

UM, IT'S A STEW, THE TEXAS STATE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES COMMISSION ACCREDITATION.

WE ARE ACCREDITED FOR ANOTHER YEAR FROM THE STATE, WHICH IS GREAT.

SO JUST TO HIGHLIGHT A COUPLE OF THE THINGS THAT THAT, UM, PROVIDES FOR US, ALL OF THE TECH SHARE DATABASE, UH, SYSTEM THAT WE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHICH I CANNOT REMEMBER THE NUMBER OF DATABASES THAT IF I THINK IT'S 80 SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT, IT CHANGES EACH YEAR.

SO IT'S A WHOLE HOST OF DIFFERENT, UM, ONLINE RESOURCES THAT WE CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY A MUCH LARGER SUM.

AND OUR, UM, ANNUAL FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT IS BETWEEN 10 AND $11,000, WHERE IT WOULD BE 600 TO 600,000 TO A MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR.

FOR SOME OF THOSE SUBSCRIPTIONS, IF WITH ALL OF THOSE ONLINE RESOURCES, WE GET TO PARTICIPATE IN, UM, THE INTERLIBRARY LOAN SYSTEM, AS WELL AS SOME STATE GRANTS THAT ARE PROVIDED THROUGH TEXTURE AS WELL.

SO THAT'S A GREAT SAVINGS AND, UM, PROGRAM FOR US TO BE A PART OF,

[00:25:01]

OKAY.

FISCAL YEAR 2022 OPERATING BUDGET AND FIND FREE UP.

YES, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT FIND FREE A LITTLE BIT.

THE FISCAL YEAR 22 BUDGET WAS APPROVED IN SEPTEMBER BY CITY COUNCIL.

AND AS OF OCTOBER 1ST, WE ARE OFFICIALLY IN FISCAL YEAR 22, WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE SO FAST THIS YEAR HAS GONE VERY FAST.

I DID WANT TO PROVIDE YOU ALL WITH A COPY OF THE FIND FREE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS THAT IS UP ON THE WEBSITE THAT WE'RE USING TO KIND OF GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF, UM, SOME OF THE ANSWERS FOR SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE MAY OR MAY NOT RECEIVE BY GOING FUND FREE.

UM, AGAIN, WITH WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT, WHAT HAPPENS, UH, WILL I GET CHARGED IF I DON'T RETURN AN ITEM? YES, YOU WILL.

AT SEVEN DAYS.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE OVERDUE ITEMS AND WE REVIEWED SOME OF THOSE THINGS, YOU CAN GIVE US A CALL, COME INTO THE LIBRARY, UH, USE THE ONLINE SYSTEM TO REVIEW YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT, USE LIBRARY, ELF, OR USE THE LIBRARY APP.

UM, UH, CURRENTLY HAVE OVERDUE FUNDS.

DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY THEM? NO.

AS LONG AS THEY'RE A LATE FINE, YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY THOSE.

WE ARE WORKING WITH SEARCY DYNEX RIGHT NOW TO, UM, REMOVE THOSE FUNDS, THOSE OLD FUNDS FROM LIBRARY ACCOUNTS.

UH, BUT THAT'S GOING TO TAKE US A LITTLE WHILE TO DO SO.

IN THE MEANTIME, IF YOU HAVE A FILE ON YOUR ACCOUNT, COME SEE US.

WE'LL, WE'LL TAKE CARE OF THAT.

UM, I LOST THE ITEMS THAT ARE CHARGED ON MY ACCOUNT THAT I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THE REPLACEMENT COSTS.

WE'LL WORK WITH YOU JUST COME SEE US, UM, WHAT I'VE LOST THE ADAMS ON MY ACCOUNT, BUT I STILL HAVE THEM.

CAN I BRING THEM BACK? YES.

PLEASE BRING THE ITEMS BACK.

AND YOU KNOW, IF THEY'RE IN GOOD CONDITION, WE WANT THOSE ITEMS BACK AND WE'LL TAKE CARE OF THE CHARGES ON THE ACCOUNT.

IS THE LIBRARY GOING TO LOSE MONEY BY NOT COLLECTING FUNDS? THOSE FUNDS WENT BACK INTO THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND.

THEY DID NOT COME DIRECTLY TO THE LIBRARY.

SO WE'RE NOT, UM, THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT IS NOT, UM, LOSING THOSE FINES.

UM, THE OTHER THING IS WITH THE DRAMATIC INCREASE IN EBOOKS AND ONLINE MATERIALS ARE THE NUMBER OF FINES THAT WE'VE BEEN COLLECTING OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS HAS BEEN ON A STEADY DECLINE.

SO WE HAVEN'T BEEN BRINGING IN AS MUCH AS WE ONCE DID.

AND THEN WHAT ABOUT PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY? AND WE TALKED ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT.

YOU'RE STILL LIBRARY, PATRONS USERS ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARE AND THE RETURN OF THEIR LIBRARY MATERIALS.

IF YOU DON'T RETURN THEM, YOU DON'T GET TO USE, UM, OUR SERVICES.

YOU CAN'T CHECK OUT MORE MATERIALS.

YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO, UM, TO CHECK OUT NEW CONTENT OR USE A COMPUTER IF YOUR HEART IS BLOCKED BECAUSE OF THAT.

AND WE DON'T WANT THAT.

SO I THINK THAT, YES.

SO IF SOMEONE HAS OVERDUE MATERIALS, YOU MENTIONED A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT THEY CAN'T DO.

DO THEY STILL HAVE ACCESS TO ONLINE DATABASES? UM, NOT IF THEIR CARD IS BLOCKED.

OKAY.

IF THERE IS A FLAG ON THAT ACCOUNT, IT WILL KEEP YOU FROM THAT.

ALL YOU CAN DO IS COME SIT IN THE LIBRARY AND USE RESOURCES THERE.

YES.

OKAY.

AGAIN, IT'S RENEW IT, BRING ANY IN JUST, I MEAN, THERE'S SEVERAL RELATIVELY EASY WAYS OF, AND WHERE WE'RE AMENDING A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND WE'LL BE DOING SOME STAFF EDUCATION AS WELL.

WE DON'T WANT, IF YOU'VE LOST MATERIALS, DAMAGED MATERIALS, WE DON'T WANT THAT TO KEEP YOU FROM BEING ABLE TO USE THE LIBRARY EITHER.

SO WE'RE ASKING PATRONS THAT MAY NEED TO SET UP A PAYMENT PLAN OR BREAK THINGS UP TO COME TALK WITH US, AND WE WILL WORK WITH YOU AS, UM, AND COME TO SOME KIND OF AGREEMENT THAT IT'S BENEFICIAL FOR US.

AND IT'S BENEFICIAL FOR THE PATRON.

AND YOU CAN KEEP USING THE LIBRARY IN SOME CAPACITY, MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CHECK OUT MATERIALS UNTIL YOU GET SOMETHING PAID DOWN, BUT WE'LL WORK WITH YOU DURING THAT, THAT PROCESS.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT, BAND PLAN, BOND PROGRAM UPDATES.

UM, THE CENTRAL LIBRARY UPDATE.

UM, WE ARE KIND OF HOLDING RIGHT NOW.

UM, IT SHOULD KNOW MORE BY THE END OF THIS MONTH OF, UM, SPECIFICS ABOUT, UH, THE CENTRAL LIBRARY WITH, UM, THE ARPA, WHICH IS THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA, THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN UPDATE, UM, GARLAND.

AND I'M SURE YOU'VE SEEN IT WITH CITY COUNCIL.

UM, GARLAND WAS AWARDED SOME GRANT FUNDS, FEDERAL GRANT FUNDS AS PART OF THAT.

AND SO PART OF WHAT, UM, WE REQUESTED IS SOME ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO BE ABLE TO HELP COVER THE GAP FUNDING GAP THAT,

[00:30:01]

UM, IS FOR THE CENTRAL LIBRARY WITH WHAT WE REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH WITH CENTRAL LIBRARY.

AND, UM, THE BOND FUNDS THAT WE HAD AWARDED FOR THAT PARTICULAR PROJECT, WITH THE INCREASE IN, UM, THE INCREASE IN, UM, THE COST OF MATERIALS AND SOME OF THE DELAYS IT'S, IT'S DRIVEN THE COST OF THAT PROJECT UP.

UM, I WILL TELL YOU SOME OF THE MOST WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT THAT PLAN THOUGH, IS RECONFIGURING THE ENTIRE LIBRARY.

IT'S MOVING THE CHILDREN'S SECTION DOWNSTAIRS TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE, UH, A SAFER AND, UM, MORE UNIQUE, UH, WHAT'S THE WORD I'M LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCE FOR, UH, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AND, AND HOPE TO MAKE IT A DESTINATION SPACE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.

UM, HAVING A HANDS-ON LEARNING LAB FOR CHILDREN, UH, DOWNSTAIRS, A PLACE THAT CHILDREN CAN BE A LITTLE BIT NOISIER, A LITTLE BIT MORE RAMBUNCTIOUS, HAVE MORE CHILD-FRIENDLY PLACE, UM, AT THE SAME TIME, MAKING IT A MORE ACCESSIBLE SPACE FOR THOSE WHO MAY HAVE, UM, MOBILITY ISSUES, UH, AND MOVING ALL THE ADULT MATERIALS UP ON THE MAIN FLOOR.

SO YOU'LL HAVE NON-FICTION AND FICTION A QUIET STUDY AREA ON THE MAIN FLOOR REDIRECTING THE MAIN ENTRANCE OFF THE WEST LOT WHERE THE LARGE PARKING LOT IS IN BETWEEN THE LIBRARY AND THE WOMEN'S BUILDING, HAVING A MAIN ENTRANCE THERE INSTEAD OF ON AUSTIN.

SO YOU CAN PARK CLOSE TO THE FRONT DOOR AND GET INTO THE FRONT DOOR, HAVING A MAKER-SPACE SMALL BUSINESS CENTER, MORE STUDY ROOMS, MORE CONFERENCE ROOMS FOR PUBLIC USE AND MOVING THE MEETING ROOM FROM THE FAR BACK OF THE LIBRARY UP TO THE FRONT OF THE LIBRARY.

SO IT CAN BE USED, UM, AND ACCESSIBLE MUCH EASIER, MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN, UH, IN AN EASIER WAY THAN WHAT IT CURRENTLY IS.

NOW YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GET ALL THOSE BOOKS FROM DOWNSTAIRS.

OH, UP HERE.

OH, YES, YES.

MA'AM.

CAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT A LOT OF BOOKS.

THERE ARE A LOT OF BOOKS DOWN THERE, BUT, UH, IF WE CAN DO IT, THEN YES, WE WILL GET THOSE BOOKS FROM DOWNSTAIRS, UPSTAIRS.

NICE.

UM, ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT CENTRAL BEFORE I MOVED TO A WALNUT? SO WITH WALNUT, THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT IS EVERYONE'S FOR ME ON, OKAY.

WITH WALNUT CREEK, I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF WHAT THE, BESIDE US SOPHOS.

SO WE'VE BEEN WORKING FOR A WHILE WITH ON WALNUT CREEK AND WORKING WITH PARKS AND REC ON JUST TRYING TO, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD THE, UM, THE BEST PLACE FOR WHERE THE LIBRARY IS GOING TO BE SITUATED ON THE SITE AND FOR THE REC CENTER PARKS AND REC TO BE ABLE TO, UM, HAVE EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED TO HAVE.

CAUSE THEY ARE BUILDING A GYM ON THE SITE AS WELL.

SO MR. CHARLES, I'M NOT SURE IF YOU KNOW, AND, AND MISS LISA AS WELL, WE'RE BUILDING THE NEW WALNUT CREEK BRANCH LIBRARY AT THE HOLLABAUGH, UM, SITE IN WEST GARLAND.

SO THIS SECTION RIGHT HERE WILL BE THE LIBRARY.

IT'S AN 18,000 SCORE FACILITY HERE AND WE'LL LOOK AT IT AND, UM, A LITTLE MORE IN DEPTH IN JUST A SECOND.

AND IT'S ALL ON ONE LEVEL, ALL ON ONE LEVEL.

YES.

ONE LEVEL ALL ON ONE LEVEL.

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR, UM, MUCH MORE PARKING.

AND I'LL TELL YOU THAT THIS PARKING LOT, UH, WE'LL BE SHARED SOMEWHAT WITH THE REC CENTER.

THEY'VE NEVER HAD ENOUGH PARKING, I THINK FOR SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES THAT THEY HAVE AT THE REC CENTER.

SO, UM, THIS IS WHERE THERE A GENERAL IDEA OF WHERE THEIR GYM WILL BE PLACED HERE.

IT'S AN OPEN AREA RIGHT NOW.

YES.

WHERE THE GYM IS, IS A, A FIELD.

UM, AND THEN HAVING SOME, UM, THIS KIND OF TRIANGLE, RIGHT IN BETWEEN HAVING SOME DIFFERENT SPACES THERE THAT, UH, BOTH THE LIBRARY AND THE REC CENTER CAN BOTH USE, UM, FOR INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES, BUT ALSO TO COMBINE AND HAVE A REALLY GREAT SPACE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOME COMBINED ACTIVITIES AS WELL.

THE DAY I WENT

[00:35:01]

TO THE CURRENT LIBRARY, IT WAS RAINING AND THEY HAD ENOUGH PEOPLE IN THERE.

IF THAT'S GOING TO BE THEIR STAFF, THAT THEY COULD STAFF THAT ONE, IT WAS, WELL, IT SURPRISED THE HECK OUT OF ME, BUT IT WAS A GOOD THOUGHT.

AND I'M SO LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING ROOM FOR OUR CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES TO GET OVER THERE.

PERFECT SEGUE MIS WE'VE ALSO BEEN WORKING ON ADJACENCIES IN THE BUILDING, AND I DON'T WANT TO GET TOO FAR INTO THE WEEDS BECAUSE SOME OF THIS MAY CHANGE AS WE CONTINUE TO WORK AND TALK THROUGH THE PROCESS.

BUT I IS THAT I DON'T HAVE TO DO IT THIS WAY.

SO THIS IS WALNUT HERE.

WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DOING IS MAKING THIS SECTION HERE, UH, ADULT SERVICES.

SO COMPUTERS, UH, LIKE A SMALL BUSINESS AREA THAT WILL HAVE COPY MACHINES, SCANNER, DIFFERENT, UM, TYPES OF THOSE MATERIALS, UM, READING AREA, UH, SEATING AREA PERIODICALS WILL BE OVER IN THIS SECTION.

THE REALLY COOL THING ABOUT THIS IS WHILE THE MAIN ENTRANCE IS, IS GOING TO BE ALIGNED SOMEWHERE OVER HERE, HAVING A LONG CORRIDOR THROUGH THE INTERIOR OF THE LIBRARY, THAT YOU CAN EASILY ACCESS, UH, THE REC DEPARTMENT, THE GYM AND THE OUTDOOR AREA OUT TOWARDS THE OTHER END OF THE BUILDING.

AND WE CAN CONTROL THAT WHEN THAT'S OPEN, IF IT HAS TO BE CLOSED, DEPENDING ON WHAT'S GOING ON, HAVING A HOPE, EVERYBODY HAS HAD A CHANCE TO SEE YOU WHAT THE CURRENT MEETING ROOM SPACE AT WALNUT CREEK, VERY SMALL, PROBABLY ABOUT THE SIZE OF THESE CHAIRS FOR THAT LITTLE SPACE OVER THERE.

AND YOU'VE GOT IT PEOPLE ON A GOOD DAY, 20 PEOPLE ON A GOOD DAY, MAYBE 25, IF WE ALL HOLD ON BREASTS AS WELL, VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE, THIS MEETING ROOM SPACE WILL BE ABLE TO BE DIVIDED SO LARGER ROOM HERE, SMALLER ROOM HERE, BUT YOU CAN OPEN THIS SPACE UP AND IT'D BE A MUCH LARGER AREA HERE.

AND I THINK IT WILL END UP HOLDING ABOUT 80 PEOPLE IN IT.

SO A MUCH LARGER SPACE THERE, UM, HAVING SOME BACK, UH, WORK ROOM SPACE, WHICH IF ANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN TO WALNUT CREEK, YOU KNOW, THAT THEY HAVE MAYBE THIS MUCH SPACE HERE FOR SOME OF THE STORAGE, BUT ACTUALLY HAVING A SPACE FOR, UH, THE STAFF WORK AREAS, CIRCULATION ROOMS, STORAGE STORAGE FOR ALL THE PROGRAMMING SUPPLIES THAT THEY HAVE THERE.

AND THEN HAVING A DESIGNATED TEEN AREA OVER IN THIS SECTION CHILDREN'S AREA AND THE CHILDREN'S AREA WITH SOME HANDS-ON LEARNING, UM, CENTER AT PLAY AREA FOR KIDS AS WELL, HAVING A LEARNING LAB, MAKER-SPACE SOME STUDY ROOMS AND THEN A STORYTIME SLASH, UM, LEARNING LAB SPACE JUST FOR KIDS UP HERE.

WHAT IS THAT OPEN SPACE? UH, THIS NO DOWN BELOW THE MEETING ROOMS OF THIS GREAT QUESTION, THIS IS PERFECT.

I COULD NOT SET THIS COMPANY.

UM, PROBABLY THIS ONE ENDED UP BEING A LARGE PORCH AREA, UM, THAT THE MEETING ROOM ADULT AREA CAN SPILL OUT ON, ESPECIALLY THE MEANING OF AREA.

IF WE'RE HAVING A LARGE EVENT OR LARGE PROGRAM, WE CAN SPELL OUT ON TO THE, THE OUTDOOR AREA IT'LL BE COVERED, BUT NOT ENCLOSED, CORRECT.

HOPEFULLY ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT ONE OF THE EIGHT PEOPLE THERE ASK, ARE THEY GOING TO GET SOME MORE BOOKS FOR ADULTS? BECAUSE WHAT THEY'VE GOT IN THERE NOW IS NOT BRINGING PEOPLE IN EXCEPT THAT SMALL SECTION OF NEW ADDITIONS, OTHER THAN THAT, AND THEY HAVE HAULED OFF A LOT OF BOOKS OUT OF THERE.

THERE NEVER HAS BEEN MANY, YOU HAD TO ORDER THEM FROM DOWN HERE, SO, AND SEND THEM.

SO WE WILL DEFINITELY HAVE, UM, AT LEAST THE SAME AMOUNT OF SPACE, IF NOT MORE SPACE FOR ADULT, THE CHILDREN'S AREA GETS A MUCH LARGER PLACE FOR MATERIALS JOB WITH THOSE KIDS.

AND THEN I THINK ESPECIALLY, UH, WHAT'S CRITICAL HERE IS THE, THE TEEN AREA.

SO THE TEEN AREA WILL ACTUALLY HAVE A DESIGNATED SPACE, A MUCH LARGER SPACE THAN WHAT IT HAS NOW.

I THINK NOW I DON'T REMEMBER THE NUMBER OF VOLUMES THAT THE TEEN AREA HAS, BUT THIS WILL SMALL, PROBABLY DOUBLE IF NOT TRIPLE

[00:40:01]

THE AMOUNT OF MATERIALS THAT TEENS CAN HAVE.

THE OTHER REALLY IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THAT THE FURNISHINGS THAT WERE, UH, AND WE HAVEN'T STARTED TO TALK ABOUT FURNISHINGS OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN TRYING TO, TO HAVE THINGS THAT ARE EASILY MOVED, UH, TO BE ABLE TO REDEFINE A SPACE.

SO IN WHEN SCHOOL IS IN SESSION AND KIDS ARE IN SCHOOL, IF WE NEED TO MOVE THIS PART OF WHERE THE TEEN AREA IS TO ACCOMMODATE A LARGER NUMBER OF PRESCHOOLERS THAT ARE COMING INTO THE LIBRARY, WE CAN DO THAT AND THEN EASILY SHIFT ALL THIS BACK AND OPEN THE SPACE UP FOR TEENS AS THEY COME IN IN THE AFTERNOON.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A MUCH LARGER CORE GROUP OF TEENS WHO WILL COME IN AND USE THIS FACILITY, ESPECIALLY BEING CLOSE TO THE REC CENTER AND A GYM THAT, YOU KNOW, TINA ACTIVITY IN THE AFTERNOON AFTER SCHOOL IS THERE.

SO, UM, AND AGAIN, WITH THE CORRIDOR, BEING ABLE TO USE THAT SPACE AND, UM, ADAPT THE FURNITURE FURNISHINGS IN DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE IN THAT CORRIDOR SPACE TO MEET WHATEVER IT IS THAT WE'RE HAVING AT THE LIBRARY.

IT CAN BE A DISPLAY PLACE, UM, DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES, DEPENDING ON WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE SITE AND WHAT KIND OF PROGRAMS WE HAVE GOING ON AT THE FACILITY.

BUT CERTAINLY CERTAINLY AS A LOVELY THOUGHT OVER THERE, IT'S REALLY EXCITING.

THE EXIT EMERGENCY EXIT IS THE CLOSET WHERE YOU GET THE CHAIRS OUT OF CURRENTLY, WHICH IS KIND OF A WEIRD SITUATION.

SO IT LOOKS VERY NICE.

WELL, LIKE I SAID, I, I DEBATED ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO PUT THIS UP HERE, BUT I THINK IT'S, EVEN IF WE, THINGS WILL BE MODIFIED, UM, FROM THIS AS WE CONTINUE TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS, BUT IT GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHERE WE'RE AT IN THE PROCESS AND ALL THE WORK THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING WITH THE ARCHITECTS TO, TO LAY THINGS OUT AND START CONFIGURING THIS, THIS NEW SPACE, WHAT WE CAN DO, WHICH IS WHAT WE CAN DO.

YES, IT'S VERY EXCITING.

IT'S VERY EXCITING.

AND I THINK IT'LL BE SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ADDITION THAT THE, UM, REC CENTER IS GOING TO HAVE WITH THE GYM.

IT'LL BE A REALLY GREAT OVERALL SITE FOR WEST GARLAND AND SOMETHING THAT CAN, UM, REALLY BRING PEOPLE IN AND SOMETHING TO BE, TO BE PROUD OF.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT UPDATE.

UM, THE CITY COUNCIL DID HAVE A SPECIAL MEETING ON AUGUST 26, WHERE THEY BEGAN DISCUSSING, UM, HOW TO USE THE FUNDS THAT HAS BEEN AWARDED TO GARLAND.

THE NEXT MEETING IS THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9TH, UM, WHERE COUNCIL WILL BEGIN OR CONTINUE, UM, DISCUSSING AND DELIBERATING HOW TO USE THOSE FUNDS.

AND AGAIN, THE LIBRARY DOES HAVE A COUPLE OF REQUESTED PROJECTS OR FUNDING REQUESTS IN THIS MAINLY TO BE ABLE, UH, FOR CENTRAL TO, UM, HAVE THE FUNDING, TO DO EVERYTHING THAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO WITH THE BUILDING, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ESCALATED COSTS BECAUSE OF, UM, INFLATION AND SUPPLY CHAIN PROBLEMS, BUT JUST HAVE THAT OCTOBER 9TH DATE.

AND THEY DID RECORD THE OCTOBER OR THE AUGUST 26TH MEETING.

SO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED CAN GO BACK AND WATCH THE RECORDING OF THAT AUGUST 26TH MEETING.

OKAY.

I GUESS THE NEXT THING IS KATHLEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM REPORT.

NO, THAT'S JUST FOR YOU, THAT'S FOR YOUR PACKET.

UM, WE ACTUALLY, I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT FREE PROGRAMS, THE SUMMER RATING PROGRAM, ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM AND BIG ART DAY, WHICH, UH, THE, WHAT IS IT, THE, THE, THE CHALK AUBREY TO SHOP.

SHE WAS VERY EXCITED WHEN SHE FOUND OUT THAT'S WHAT IT WAS THAT WAS PART OF, OF, OF A BIG ART DAY, WHICH GETTING SLIGHTLY AHEAD.

BUT THAT W THAT IS, UH, WAS GIS THE CITY OF GARLAND.

AND AS PART OF HIS CITY OF GARLAND, UH, THE LIBRARY ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THAT.

SO I'LL BE GOING OVER THOSE THREE THINGS, UH, UH, FOR SUMMER READING PROGRAM FOR BOTH ADULT

[00:45:01]

AND THE REGULAR SUMMER READING PROGRAM, THE THEME WAS TAILS AND TAILS.

AND THOSE WERE, THAT WAS ILLUSTRATED ON THE WINDOWS AT CENTRAL, AND IT CELEBRATED ANIMALS AND THEIR STORIES.

AND IT RAN FROM MAY 30TH THROUGH JULY 31ST.

AND IT WAS FOR ALL AGES FROM INFANTS UP TO WHATEVER AGE WE HAD READING CHALLENGES, WE HAD DESTINATION ACTIVITIES.

AGAIN, WE LIKE TO DO THOSE BECAUSE IT GETS PEOPLE OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY.

THEY, THEY CAN GO TO DIFFERENT PLACES ON A CARD AND THEY CHECK THOSE OFF.

AND, AND THAT'S ONE OF THE, UM, ACTIVITIES THAT THEY DO, UH, TO REACH, UM, THEIR BY MONTHLY PRIZES.

WE HAD BIMONTHLY PRIZES AND THEY DID ALL THESE ACTIVITIES AND THE READING CHALLENGES TO BE ABLE TO, UH, PARTICIPATE IN THE DRAWINGS FOR THE PRIZES AND THE MORE ACTIVITIES THEY COMPLETED, THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES THEY HAD TO GET THE LITTLE PRIZE COUPONS, UM, OUR END OF YEAR, OUR COMPLETION PRIZES FOR BIRTH THROUGH 12TH GRADE W UH, THEY WERE, IT WAS A BAG BOOK BAG, AND, UH, BOOKS, AGE, APPROPRIATE BOOKS FOR THEM AND FOR THE ADULTS, IT WAS A BAG AND COFFEE MUG, WHICH THOSE MUGS.

SO EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE ON THE BOARD, YOU STILL GOT, STILL GOT THE BUG.

UM, SO LAST YEAR WITH WHEN IT WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, AND WE WERE SWITCHING OVER VERY RAPIDLY FROM, UH, IN-PERSON TO VIRTUAL, WE DIDN'T HAVE THAT BIG OF A TURNOUT FOR THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM THIS YEAR, BECAUSE WE HAD SOME IN-PERSON, IT WAS OUTDOORS, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE SOME IN-PERSON AND WE HAD VIRTUAL, AND WE WERE KIND OF IN THE SWING OF THINGS.

UM, WE, WE HAD AN INCREASED ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION, SO THAT WAS NICE TO SEE THAT, UH, INCREASE FOR THE YOUTH, WHICH IS THE INFANTS TO AGE 12.

WE HAD STORY TIMES AND WE HAD WITH OUR ELDERS, OUR SPANISH PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE ASSISTANT, THEY DID RECORDED FAMILY STORY TIMES AND SPANISH STORY TIMES, AND THEY PREMIERED LIVE WEEKLY ON FACEBOOK.

AND WE HAD A QUESTION RECENTLY ABOUT THE STORYTIMES ONLY BEING UP FOR 24 HOURS.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF I COVERED THIS PREVIOUSLY, BUT THE REASON WHY THEY ARE ONLY UP FOR 24 HOURS IS, UH, DUE TO COPYRIGHT THE PUBLISHERS AND AUTHORS HAVE GENEROUSLY ALLOWED LIBRARIES AND SCHOOLS AND WHATEVER TO, UH, POST STORY TIMES, BUT IT CAN ONLY BE UP FOR 24 HOURS.

SO IF IT'S ALIVE STORYTIME THAT WE DO, UH, IT'S ONLY UP FOR THE 24 HOURS WE DID, AS I SAID, WE'D HAD OUTDOOR PROGRAMS. AND THESE WERE MAY THROUGH JULY WITH THE CHILDREN'S LIBRARIANS.

WE AT, UH, FOR NORTH GARLAND BRANCH IN WALNUT CREEK BRANCH, WE HELD THEM AT LOCAL AT AREA PARKS AT SOUTH GARLAND BRANCH.

THEY HAD THEM, UH, IN THE PARKING LOT AND FOR DOWNTOWN, THEY USED THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE, UH, DURING THE URBAN MARKETS.

AND THERE WOULD BE A THEME, THE STORIES PROGRAM, AND IT'D BE BOOKS, SONGS, MOVEMENT, ACTIVITIES, AND THEN PROJECTS FOR FAMILIES TO ENJOY.

AND THOSE WERE, UM, FAIRLY WELL ATTENDED.

AND I THINK AT THAT TIME, PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY WITH IT, THEY MAY, THEY WERE JUST STARTING TO GET OUT.

AND THEY REALLY ENJOYED THAT OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A PROGRAM THAT THEIR WHOLE FAMILY COULD GO TO.

WE ALSO HAD FAMILY ZOOM NIGHT, AND THAT WAS, I WANT THE MONTH PROGRAM.

AND THERE WOULD BE A LIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WE WOULD TEACH ABOUT, UH, HOW TO CREATE SOME PROJECT.

WE HAD STEAM

[00:50:01]

BUILDING KITS, UH, STEP-BY-STEP PAINTING, BUILD YOUR OWN BOARD GAMES.

AND THIS ATTRACTED FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN OF ALL AGES.

AND THEY WOULD REGISTER FOR THE EVENT, THEN PICK UP THE PROJECT KITS.

AND THEN THEY WOULD LOG IN WITH A PRIVATE LINK TO THAT, UH, ZOOM PROGRAM AND MUCH LIKE WE HAD OUR ZOOM BOARD MEETINGS, AND THOSE WERE VERY POPULAR.

AND WE HOPE TO CONTINUE THOSE WHEN WE CAN DO IN PERSON, BECAUSE THOSE WERE ALSO VERY POPULAR.

ANY, ANY OF THE, SORRY, ANY OF THE MAKING, THE MAKE KIT MAKING OR STEAM TYPE THINGS.

THERE'S A LOT OF INTEREST IN THAT, AND IT'S NOT JUST PASSIVE.

THEY'RE NOT JUST WATCHING, UH, THEY GET TO DO STUFF AND YOU CAN INCORPORATE BOOKS, UH, THE DIFFERENT BOOKS THAT GO WITH THAT THING FOR ADULTS WE HAD AND CONTINUE TO HAVE OUR ONLINE BOOK CLUB AND THAT'S SPONSORED OR HOSTED RATHER AT SOUTH GARLAND BRANCH.

AND THAT'S A ZOOM THAT'S HELD ON ZOOM AND THERE'S, UH, THERE'S UH, DOES ANYBODY HERE PARTICIPATE IN THAT THERE IS A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT ATTEND EACH TIME OR ALMOST EVERY TIME, AND THEN THERE'S OTHERS THAT WILL JOIN DEPENDING ON WHAT THE BOOK IS, THE TITLE OF THE BOOK.

AND, UM, THEY CHOOSE THE BOOKS UP TO SIX MONTHS IN ADVANCE, SO THEY KNOW THE TITLES AND THEY CAN READ THROUGH THEM AND THEY'RE PREPARED.

AND THEN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THEY HAVE A, JUST WHAT BOOK DID YOU READ? SO WHATEVER BOOK ANYBODY CAN JOIN, JUST YOU JUST TALK ABOUT THE BOOK THAT YOU JUST READ.

AND THOSE ARE ALSO, WE, WE HOPE THAT THEY WOULD BE MORE POPULAR AND I, THEY WERE MORE POPULAR IN PERSON, BUT LIKE I SAID, THERE IS LIKE THIS GROUP THAT STILL ATTENDS.

SO THEY, THEY DO ENJOY THAT.

WE TRIED SOMETHING NEW FOR ADULTS DURING THE SUMMER, AND IT WAS GEOCASHING IF ANYONE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEO CACHING IS, YOU, UH, ARE GIVEN THE LOCATION OF WHERE SOMETHING IS HIDDEN.

AND YOU MAY BE GIVEN SOME BRIEF, A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, AND THEN YOU GO FIND IT.

AND WHEN YOU DO FIND IT, YOU, THERE, IT, THE CONTAINER IT'S USUALLY IN A CONTAINER.

AND, UH, YOU MAKE, YOU KEEP A LOG OF WHERE YOU FOUND IT, BUT YOU PUT IT BACK FOR THE NEXT PERSON TO FIND.

AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE, UM, LEAVE THINGS FOR SOMEONE, AND THEN THEY TAKE THAT.

AND THEN THEY PUT SOMETHING ELSE IN THERE, A LITTLE, LITTLE TRINKETS, AND WE HAVE NOT DONE THAT IN FOR THE LIBRARY.

AND IT WAS, UH, THAT WAS POPULAR.

ALSO, IT ALLOWED FAMILIES IT'S WAS FOR ADULTS.

ADULTS COULD JUST DO THAT, BUT THEY COULD ALSO TAKE THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY.

THEY COULD GO AROUND TO DIFFERENT AREAS IN THE CITIES, UH, ALL OF THE LIBRARIES, PARKS, AND IT WAS A SAFE OUTDOOR ACTIVITY.

AND IF THEY HAD COMPLETED THEIR GEOCACHE LOG WITH ALL OF THE LOCATIONS, UH, THEY HAD, THEY GOT PRIZES, JUST, JUST LITTLE TINY BUTTONS THAT WE, THAT WE MAKE.

AND THEY HAVE LIKE BOOKS, UM, WORDS FROM TEXT, FROM, UM, FROM STORIES.

AND THEY'RE, THEY'RE REALLY KIND OF COOL.

WE'VE USED THOSE FOR DIF THE TEENS REALLY LIKE THOSE.

UM, SO WE'VE USED THOSE BEFORE, AND THAT'S WHAT WAS USED FOR THIS MAKER.

WE'VE YES, WE'VE GOTTEN A LOT OF WORK.

SO, UH, THE LIBRARIANS HAVE REPORTED THAT THERE WAS SOME, NOT JUST THE PEOPLE THAT PARTICIPATED, BUT IT WENT TO A GEO CACHING SITE AND IT DREW INTEREST FROM PEOPLE IN THE GENERAL GEOCASHING COMMUNITY.

AND THERE WERE SOME ENCOURAGING COMMENTS FROM THOSE PEOPLE ABOUT LIBRARY.

SO THAT'S ALWAYS GOOD.

WE HAD A LITERARY MOCKTAILS,

[00:55:02]

AND THAT WAS FROM CENTRAL.

AND THAT WAS A RECORDED PROGRAM ON NICHE, WHICH IS, HAS EDUCATIONAL TYPE VIDEOS.

AND THEY USED, UM, TEQUILA, MOCKINGBIRD COCKTAILS WITH THE LITERARY TWIST.

AND ARE YOU THERE? GOD, IT'S ME MARGARITA, MORE COCKTAILS WITH THE LITERARY TWIST, BOTH BY TIM FEDERALLY, BUT WE USED, THEY WERE NON-ALCOHOLIC, UM, MOCK TAILS.

AND SO THEY WERE FAMILY FRIENDLY DRINKS AND THE LIBRARIAN THAT PRESENTED THEM, UM, EMILY SEARS WOULD, SHE COULD NOT HIDE THE ONE HER FACE ONCE SHE LIKED THE ONE.

SHE DID NOT CARE FOR HIM.

SO THAT WAS, UH, IT SHOULD STILL BE ON THERE.

IF ANYBODY WANTS TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT.

I EVER MET EMILY THAT'S.

YEAH.

UH, THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER ONE, A DO IT YOURSELF, WINE CORK, BIRDHOUSE.

AND THAT WAS FROM CENTRAL, ALSO ON NAISH.

AND THAT DREW A LOT OF INTEREST.

A LOT OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THAT AND, UH, THEY WANT TO, THEY WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN, UM, POSSIBLY IN PERSON, BUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO COLLECT WINE CORK.

SO IF ANYBODY HAS WINE CORKS, JUST BRING THEM, WE'LL USE THEM.

UH, WE HAD A DOG BANDANA, WE MADE DOG BANDANAS, UH, THAT WAS FROM SOUTH, THAT WAS ON NAISH.

AND WE HAD THE INSTRUCTION VIDEO VIDEO ON NEISHA CADEMY THEY, PEOPLE WOULD REGISTER, THEY'D PICK UP THE CRAFT KITS AND THEN THEY COULD, UH, WATCH THE VIDEO AND MAKE THE VIDEO, THE BANNED DOG BANDANAS AT HOME.

AND THESE WERE THE ASYNCHRONOUS TYPE PROGRAMS. THAT IT'S WHAT WE, WE'RE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE USED DURING THIS, THIS TIME, WHEN WE'RE NOT MEETING IN PERSON IN THE LIBRARY.

UM, SO I THINK IT HAS SERVED US WELL IN WHAT, IN A WAY THAT WE CAN REACH OUT TO OUR PATRONS, BUT OBVIOUSLY HAVING A PROGRAM LIKE THIS ACTUALLY IN-PERSON IN THE LIBRARY IS, IS BETTER.

AND WE TEND TO GET MORE PEOPLE, UH, 10, NINE THAT WE HAD, UM, THIS WAS AN IN-PERSON PROGRAM.

IT WAS ON THE SQUARE PAINTINGS.

AND WE'RE GOING TO DO THAT AGAIN IN NOVEMBER.

AND THAT IS YOU HAVE PEOPLE SIGN UP FOR IT, FAMILIES WITH PETS OR DOGS.

I DON'T THINK CATS WOULD PARTICIPATE.

UM, THE NOVEMBER 6TH AS A SPECIFIC FOR CANINES AND THIS, THEY DO.

WE LIVE IN THEIR WORLD.

UM, THEY WILL HAVE THE, TAKE A CANVAS AND PUT PAINT ON IT, PUT THE PAINT IN A PLASTIC BAG AND THEN PUT PEANUT BUTTER ON THAT AND LET THE DOG LICK.

AND THEN YOU TAKE IT OUT AND LET IT DRY.

AND YOU'VE GOT YOUR PODCAST THOUGH.

SO THE DOGS HAVE FUN.

THEY LIKED THE PEANUT BUTTER.

SO THAT'S ANOTHER ONE OTHER THAN JUST DOING IT FOR THAT.

I THINK THE PEOPLE THAT PARTICIPATED, UM, WERE REALLY INTERESTED IN DOING IT AGAIN AND DOING IT WHEN IT WAS A LITTLE COOLER BECAUSE THE DOGS, UH, IT WAS HOT.

THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH WHAT WE DID DURING THE SUMMER.

AND THEN FOR BIG ART DAY, LIKE I SAID, THAT WAS, UH, A PROGRAM WHICH WAS WITH, UH, GIS D AND THE CITY OF GARLAND.

AND WE PARTICIPATED FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT, I THINK, FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT.

YEAH, IT WAS ACTUALLY, IT WAS FINE ARTS, BUT IT WAS ALSO THEATER ARTS.

IT WAS THE ART DEPARTMENT, BUT IT WAS THEIR THEATER ARTS TEAM.

IT WAS EVERYTHING FINE ARTS.

IT WAS OKAY.

WHAT SHE SAID, I DON'T.

UM, AND THEN THE CITY OF

[01:00:01]

GARLAND, THAT WAS, UH, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

CISD.

YES.

SORRY.

I THOUGHT YOU MEANT CISD.

SO WE ENCOURAGED OUR LIBRARIANS TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING TO KIND OF GET PEOPLE READY FOR, FOR BIG ART DAY, WHICH WAS ON.

SO I WAS OUT THAT DAY, SEPTEMBER.

IT WAS A SATURDAY IT'S THE LAST SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER.

AND SO SOUTH CAME UP WITH PAINTED, I THINK IT WAS 18, UH, PAINTED BOOKENDS FOR GRADE SIX THROUGH 12 AND CANVAS AND COOKIES FOR FAMILIES AND YOUNGER CHILDREN.

AND THE, UH, PAINTED BOOKENDS.

THEY PICKED UP BOOKENDS, TOOK THEM HOME, PAINTED THEM AND THEN BRING THEM BACK FOR DISPLAY.

AND IF THEY DID THAT, IF THEY COMPLETED THAT WHOLE THING, PAINTED THEM AND BROUGHT THEM BACK, THEY GOT TWO HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, WHICH IF, YOU KNOW, THE TEAMS ALWAYS NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS.

AND THE LIBRARIANS SAID THAT THE, UH, THE BOOKS, THE BOOK ENDS THAT HAVE BEEN RETURNED, OUR AMAZING REPRESENTATIONS OF FAVORITE BOOKS, GRAPHIC NOVELS, AND FAN ART.

SO, UM, NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE.

THAT WAS A COOL PROGRAM.

THE CANVAS IN COOKIES, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE'VE HAD THIS.

UM, THE REGISTRATION WAS FULL WITHIN AN HOUR AND A HALF OF OPENING IT.

UH, THE FAMILY MEMBERS PICK UP CANVASES AND PAINT AND THEY ANA TREAT.

THEN THEY'D TAKE IT HOME AND THEY WATCH THE, WE HAVE A ZOOM EVENT.

SO THAT'S A LIVE EVENT.

AND THEN THEY, THE LIBRARIANS ARE INSTRUCT DOING THE INSTRUCTING AND THEY ALSO TALK.

SO IT'S KINDA LIKE PAINT, PAINTING WITH A TWIST, BUT IT'S FOR FAMILIES AND IT'S FUN.

THIS WAS ICE CREAM CONES.

AND SO THEY PAINTED ICE CREAM CONES AND IT WAS, THEY SAID IT WAS KIND OF FUN TO SEE ALL THE DIFFERENT FLAVORS OF ICE CREAM OR JUST THE REALLY UNUSUAL LOOKING ICE CREAM AND ICE CREAM CONES AND THE, ALL THE PEOPLE THAT PARTICIPATED WERE EXCITING, EXCITED TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE, THEY WOULD BE DOING THIS AGAIN.

A BIG ART DAY AT CENTRAL WAS A STORY WALK OF WHAT THEY GOT SAW BY SAMANTHA FRIEDMAN.

AND THEN ALSO HAVING TABLES A TABLE WITH DANCERS CUT OUT OF DIFFERENT COLORED CARDSTOCK THE FAMILIES WERE INVITED TO WALK THROUGH THE STORY WALK, AND THEN THEY COULD DECORATE THEIR OWN DANCER.

AND THAT WAS PLACED ON A POSTER BOARD, UH, IN THE LIBRARY.

AND THE STORY WALK WAS, UM, IF Y'ALL DON'T KNOW WHAT A STORY WALKING IS THAT THEY, THEY ACTUALLY TAKE A BOOK AND, UH, DECONSTRUCT IT AND PUT IT ON IT.

THEY HAVE PERMANENT ONES THAT ARE LIKE OUTSIDE TEMPORARY ONES THAT YOU CAN PUT IN WINDOWS OR TEMPORARY ONES LIKE THIS, WHERE YOU CAN HAVE THEM INSIDE A BUILDING.

UM, AND IT'S YOU JUST WALK ALONG AT YOUR OWN PACE AND YOU READ, YOU READ THE STORY, YOU PARTICIPATE BY WALKING AND READING THE STORY.

AND SO THEY DECIDED TO DO THAT AT CENTRAL AND WALNUT, UH, DID A QUANTUM LIST PAINTING ON THE WINDOWS AND THE CHILDREN'S AREA.

AND IT WAS, THEY MADE, UM, FLOWERS IN VASES AND IT CELEBRATED, IT ALSO CELEBRATED, UM, INTERNATIONAL.DAY.

SO THEY MADE LITTLE DOT PAINTINGS ON THE WINDOWS, INSIDE THE LIBRARY.

AND THEY HAD 15 ARTISTS FROM AGES FIVE TO 12 THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE WEEK LEADING UP TO BIG ART DAY.

SO THEY HAD FUN WITH THAT.

AND FINAL ONE WAS AT NORTH GARLAND.

THEY HAD CELEBRATED BIG ART DAY WITH THE ART OF SPANISH ARTISTS, PABLO PICASSO.

THEY HAD PICASSO SELFIE DAYS, ARMORY, PICASSO,

[01:05:01]

SELFIE TAKEN MAKE KITS.

THE, UH, P THE CHILDREN GOT THE KIDS.

IT WAS FUN MADE OUT OF FUN FOAM.

THEY HAD A FUN FOAM FACE FOR THE BASE, AND THEN FUN FOAM FACIAL FEATURES WITH THAT.

WE'RE IN A SORTED SHAPES AND THEY HAD A LOT OF FUN MAKING THE PICASSO SELFIES AND THEY HAD 25 KITS AND THEY WERE ALL PICKED UP.

SO, UM, I THINK IT WAS A NICE LEAD UP INTO BIG ART DAY.

IT GAVE US THE LIBRARY, SOME RECOGNITION, IT HELPED A BIG ART DAY GET RECOGNITION, TOO.

AND THEN OF COURSE HAVING THE, THE CHALK CHALK ARTIST, UH, DO THE 3D CHALK ART.

BUT WE ALSO HAD OTHER ARTISTS THAT WERE OUTSIDE OF, YOU KNOW, ON, AT HAD BOOTHS OUTSIDE, UH, CENTRAL LIBRARY TOO.

SO IT WAS PRETTY FUN, I THINK FOR EVERYBODY.

AND LATER THAT DAY THEY HAD WINE, THE WINE WALK.

YEAH.

WHICH DIDN'T HURT ANYTHING.

OH MY GOODNESS.

THAT SOUND FUN.

YES.

AND I WOULD SAY CHECK THE WEBSITE.

UM, WE HAVE A FULL, UH, PROGRAM OF DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES GOING ON IN OCTOBER.

AND HOPEFULLY IN NOVEMBER, IF THE NUMBERS CONTINUE TO DECLINE AND THINGS LOOKED AT BOTH START, UM, SOME DIFFERENT IN-PERSON PROGRAMS INSIDE THE LIBRARY SOON, BUT WE DON'T, WE'VE BEEN MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR, WE'VE BEEN VERY CLOSE AT PULLING THE TRIGGER AND STARTING TO HAVE SOME OF THOSE IN-PERSON PROGRAMS AGAIN, BUT SOMETHING'S HAPPENED.

WE JUST HAVEN'T FELT LIKE IT WAS TIME TO DO THAT YET.

BUT YES, I THINK THE LAST TIME WE WERE GETTING READY TO WHICH WAS GOING IN, YES, IT, EVERYTHING STARTED GOING UP.

SO WE WANT TO BE SMART ABOUT IT, BUT WE ALSO KNOW THAT, UM, THAT'S REALLY WHAT OUR PATRONS DON'T WANT TO, THEY'RE REALLY WANTING TO THE IN-PERSON PROGRAMS AND THE ACTIVITIES AGAIN.

AND WE WANT TO PROVIDE THAT FOR THEM.

WE JUST WANT TO BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE AS WE DO.

OKAY.

BUDDY, GETTING COMMENTS, FURTHER COMMENTS.

ALL RIGHTY.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS? THEY WON'T BRING UP? MAY I MENTIONED THAT THE FRIENDS OF THE GIRL LIBRARIES HAVING THEIR BOOKS SALE THIS WEEKEND OVER AT SOFT GARLAND THIS WEEKEND, OR NEXT TIME IT'S OCTOBER 14TH, UM, 14, 15, 16.

HEY, IT WAS COMING UP AND I HAD THE FLYER IN THE CAR, BUT I DIDN'T BRING IT IN WITH ME.

SO IF YOU NEED BOOKS, I HAVE SO MANY BOOKS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THEIR BOOKS OUT LAST YEAR.

UH, SO THEY CLEARED OUT BOOKS THAT, THAT WERE LEFT OVER SO THAT THEY COULD GET MORE OF THE NEWER BOOKS.

AND THEY'VE BEEN WORKING HARD IN THERE TRYING TO SORT AND GET EVERYTHING READY FOR THE BOOK SALE THIS YEAR.

IS IT STILL IN THAT LITTLE BITTY ROOM? YES.

MA'AM THEY MOVE IT UP TO THAT MEETING ROOM IN THE FRONT.

WE CANNOT CONVINCE THEM TO MOVE IT UP TO THE FRONT.

OH YES.

THAT'S THE OTHER THING THAT, UM, SINCE VOTING HAS, HAS MOVED IN, IT'S EARLY VOTING AND THEY BRING IN THE EQUIPMENT AND ONCE THEY BRING THE EQUIPMENT IN, EVERYTHING IS LOCKED.

SO, UM, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HOLD IT IN THERE.

ANYWAY.

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT WAS NICE THAT WHEN THEY WERE HOLDING IT AND WHEN THEY GOT DONE AND THEY HAD BOOKS LEFT OVER, THEY SOLD IT TO A BOOKSELLER AND THEY DIDN'T KEEP THEM ON HAND EXTRA.

THEY STARTED NOW.

SO THINGS ARE, THEY ARE STILL WORKING WITH A BOOK SELLER, UM, AND THEY WILL MAKE DONATIONS TO OTHER LIKE NONPROFITS AT THE END OF THE YEAR, IF THEY CAN MAKE A REQUEST.

AND, UM, SO THERE ARE THINGS THAT THEY, THAT THEY DO.

AND THEN OF COURSE, A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT COME IN, JUST LIKE WHAT WE GET, UH, WE TRY TO

[01:10:01]

SORT THROUGH THEM BEFORE THEY EVEN GET OVER THERE.

SOMETIMES WE DON'T HAVE THE STAFF OR THE TIME TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.

BUT, UH, AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW, THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO JUST CAN'T BEAR TO DISCARD SOMETHING AND WE GET IT.

THEY, THEY FEEL BETTER, BUT WE HAVE TO, WE RECYCLE IT.

WE TAKE IT TO THE RECYCLE CENTER.

UM, THERE, SOME OF THE BOOKS ARE JUST TOO OLD OR TOO, AS SUCH IN SUCH BAD CONDITION THAT WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT.

AND FRIENDS DO THE IT SAME THING.

SO, AND IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND THE FRIENDS ARE VERY GOOD TO US AND HELP, UM, ABSOLUTELY FUND DIFFERENT PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES THAT WE DO THROUGH THE YEAR.

SO IF YOU HAVE, UH, CAN HELP SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE FRIENDS SALE, IT'S GREATLY APPRECIATED BECAUSE THEY, EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO WE BENEFIT FROM.

RIGHT.

AND YES.

UH, AND ALSO THEY, IF WE HAVE AMAZON SHOPPERS IN HERE, THERE, THEY ARE ON AMAZON.

THEY'RE ONE OF THE NON NON-PROFITS ON AMAZON SMILE.

I KNOW YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS, OTHER, UH, PEOPLE THAT YOU SUPPORT OTHER GROUPS, BUT IF YOU SHOP ON AMAZON AND YOU HAVE NOT CONNECTED YOUR ACCOUNT WITH ANYTHING, THEN THEY ARE THEY'RE NICHOLSON FRIENDS OF THE NICHOLSON MEMORIAL LIBRARY INCORPORATED.

OKAY.

ANYTHING ELSE? UH, DECLARE THE MEETING ADJOURNED.
