HELLO?

[00:00:01]

HELLO? HELLO.

[Environmental and Community Advisory Board on September 8, 2021.]

I GUESS WE SHOULD DO A ROLL CALL.

KENDRA, SIR.

MAYOR'S APPOINTEE PRESENT.

ROB TODD DISTRICT EIGHT.

KAYLA BURNS TO DISTRICT SIX, RANDY ROBERTS DISTRICT FIVE, BOB BRUNCH, DISTRICT THREE URIEL VILLAPANDO SOFT LIAISON.

DAPHNE THE DISTRICT TWO.

DO WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE? YES WE DO.

WE DO.

YES.

WE SURE DO LOVELY OVER THERE.

IT'S JUST SOMETHING YOU'VE SAID TO US.

WHAT DID YOU DO? RIGHT, RIGHT IN THE NAUGHTY.

I'M IN TIME OUT, TIME OUT.

OOPS.

THE SECOND PIECE OF PAPER IS THE MINUTES.

TAKE A LOOK AT THAT.

AND I'M NOT WEARING IT.

I WEAR MINE IN EMERGENCIES MINUTES.

LOOKED GOOD TO ME.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY, UH, CHANGES? NO.

I SENT SOME CHANGES TO SOMALIA AND SHE CHANGED THEM.

AND SO I APPROVED THEM AS A PROOFREADER.

THAT'S TRUE.

WELL, WE GOT A RED PEN IN YOUR HAND, RIGHT? I'LL SECOND THAT EVERYBODY IN FAVOR OF PASSING THE MINUTES AS WRITTEN.

ALL RIGHT, THAT'S DONE AUTOGRAPH RIGHT THERE.

MY GOODNESS.

WHAT HAVE YOU, IS THERE A PEN A LOT? HUH? ALL RIGHT.

WHAT DO WE HAVE GOING TONIGHT? NANCY FROM NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY.

COME ON DOWN.

UH, MY NAME IS NANCY TANELLE.

I'M WITH THE OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY, WHICH IS A DEPARTMENT IN THE CITY OF GARLAND AND PEOPLE TO PRETTY TRAILER.

WE DO.

WE HAVE THE BLOCK PARTY TRAILER.

IT IS A HOT, HOT COMMODITY.

YES.

I SEE IT ON ONE OF MY DAUGHTER'S STREETS.

SHE'S PARTYING.

UM, SO OUR DEPARTMENT IS THREE PEOPLE.

I'M THE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY SPECIALIST.

LAURA DE LA VEGA IS THE, UM, NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY COORDINATOR.

AND THEN MY BOSS IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY RESOURCE MANAGER, SCOTT BALLINGER.

UM, WE DO ALSO HAVE A PLANNER POSITION, WHICH IS CURRENTLY VACANT.

UM, WE'RE LOOKING TO FILL, UM, BUT BETTY INVITED ME TO COME OUT TONIGHT BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH KEEP GIRL AND BEAUTIFUL AND KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL IS WORKING WITH RETREAT AS WELL.

AND WE HAVE SOME FUN ACTIVITIES COMING UP.

UM, IF YOU EVER WANT TO CHECK OUT OUR PAGE GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS DOT O R G, YOU CAN FIND OUT ABOUT OUR BLOCK PARTY TRAILER.

WE HAVE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY MATCHING GRANTS WITH YOU HAVE A REGISTERED NEIGHBORHOOD GROUP.

YOU CAN APPLY FOR UP TO A HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN FUNDS TO IMPROVE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, WE GOT A LOT OF OTHER THINGS GOING ON AS WELL.

UM, BUT THOSE ARE JUST A FEW OF THEM, BUT WHAT BETTY AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IS OCTOBER 23RD.

WE HAVE A LITTER CLEANUP COMING UP AND I BROUGHT SOME FLYERS.

YOU GUYS CAN PASS AROUND AND SHARE.

UM, PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT.

UM, WE'VE PARTNERED WITH KEITH GARLAND, BEAUTIFUL.

THIS, UH, LITTER CLEANUP WILL BENEFIT OUR WHERE THE HARDEST NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, EVERY YEAR OUR DEPARTMENT CHOOSES ONE NEIGHBORHOOD TO FOCUS ON, UM, REINVEST IN A MUNICIPAL.

OOPS, SORRY.

UM, SO WE'RE, WE'VE HAD HOSTED BLOCK PARTIES AND OTHER CAPACITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, AND THEN OCTOBER 23RD, WE'RE GOING TO DO.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THE NEIGHBORS POINTED OUT WAS THAT THERE'S A LOT OF LITTER IN CERTAIN PARTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, THERE'S AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

UM, THIS IS BORDER BY GARLAND AVENUE, WHICH IS A VERY BUSY ROAD AND OFTEN THE HOUSE TRASH.

THERE'S ALSO A TRIBUTARY THAT LEADS DOWN TO DUCK CREEK EVENTUALLY.

SO GETTING THAT CLEANED UP WILL BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY.

UM, AND THEN OVER OFF SHILOH AND GOLDFINCHES GARLAND'S FAVORITE HIGHFALUTIN RESTAURANTS.

AND AROUND THERE, THERE'S A FEW SPOTS WITH A LITTER OF STRIPPED FROM WHERE KEEP GROWING BEAUTIFUL CLAIMS UP TO FORREST IS DIRTY.

YEAH, THERE'S, THERE'S DEFINITELY A LOT OF AREAS TO BE ATTACKED.

SO, UM, WE'RE EXCITED TO WORK WITH VOLUNTEERS.

UM, BETTY, JUST PUT THE WORD OUT A FEW DAYS AGO AND WE'VE ALREADY GOT 16 PEOPLE SIGNED UP.

UM, IT'S ON OCTOBER 23RD.

SO PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT.

UM, THIS FLYER HAS A QR CODE ON IT, SO YOU CAN SCAN IT AND IT'LL TAKE YOU STRAIGHT TO THE REGISTRATION PAGE.

UM, AND THEN IF THAT QR CODES ARE TOO MUCH, THEN THEY CAN GO TO GARLIN NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG AND CLICK ON THE LITTLE ICON.

[00:05:01]

AND THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO, UM, THE WHERE THE HARDEST PAGE.

AND, UM, IT, THAT'S NOT POSTED YET, BUT AS OF TOMORROW, THE LITTER CLEANUP WILL BE ADDED TO THE WEBSITE THERE.

UM, ANOTHER EXCITING THING WE HOSTED, YES.

MIXER.

EXACTLY.

DO THEY MEET, UM, THEY'LL TELL YOU ON, WHEN YOU GO TO SIGN UP THERE'S FIVE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS WITHIN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE CLEANING UP.

SO THE VOLUNTEERS GET TO CHOOSE WHICH PART OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEY GOING TO CLEAN UP.

YOU SCAN THE QR CODE.

IT'S PRETTY COOL.

I DID IT.

AND IT SHOWS YOU EVERYTHING.

THAT'S JUST LIKE A MOM.

WHAT, WHAT LOCATIONS ARE AVAILABLE? IT'S REALLY COOL.

YEAH.

SO WE'VE GOT FIVE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

CAN YOU GUYS SEE THIS MOUSE UP THERE? YES.

OKAY.

SO, UM, THE PEOPLE THAT SIGNED UP, YEAH.

SO UP HERE IS WHAT WE CALL PART GROVES.

UM, IF YOU SIGN UP FOR PART GROVES, YOU'LL BE CLEANING FROM PARK AVENUE DOWN, MARIE, UM, MARIANNE ALL THE WAY TO TANGLEWOOD AND GARLAND AVENUE.

IF YOU SIGN UP FOR CREST, REDDISH STATES, YOU'LL DO HILLTOP IN WOOD, CREST, RIDGE AND MARION.

UM, THIS OVER HERE IS MEADOWLARK MOCKINGBIRD, ORIEL, CARDINAL TO SHILOH.

AND THEN WE DIVIDED WILLIAMS AS STATES INTO EASTERN WEST PORTIONS.

SO THE EAST SIDE WOULD BE FROM SHILOH ALL THE WAY TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AND THE WEST SIDE WOULD BE FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO GARLAND AVENUE.

UM, WELL IT'S BETWEEN FOREST AND MILLER.

OH, SORRY.

TRYING TO THINK OF RECYCLING COMPANIES.

WE CAN PESTER TO JOIN IN.

AH SURE.

YEAH.

WHEN WE CAN TAKE, UM, YEAH.

YEAH, WE DO HAVE, UM, OUR RECYCLING BAGS.

WE DO HAVE TWO DIFFERENT KINDS, THESE, UM, GARBO, GRABBERS, UM, WE CAN HAVE PEOPLE SEPARATE RECYCLING AND PLASTIC.

WE USUALLY FIND THAT THE, THE RECYCLING IS SO CONTAMINATED THAT IT IS KIND OF HARD TO SEPARATE THE TWO, BUT IF THERE IS EVER LIKE A DISTINCT, LIKE, OH, THERE'S ALL BEER BOTTLES HERE AND WE COULD EASILY KEEP THAT SEPARATED AND RECYCLED.

UM, ANY OTHER, THIS IS FOR SOMEBODY THAT THEY, I ASSUME THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO REGISTER ONLINE.

YES.

CAN THEY REGISTER IN PERSON THAT MORNING THOUGH? UM, AND IF SO, WHERE WOULD THAT BE? YOU KNOW, THEY REALLY NEED TO REGISTER ONLINE.

THAT WOULD BE IDEAL.

SO THERE WILL BE NO CENTRAL LOCATION OR HEADQUARTERS OR TENT OR ANYTHING FOR FIVE DIFFERENT HEADQUARTERS THROUGHOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, THAT MAINLY THIS IS TARGETED TOWARDS THE RESIDENTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, WE HAVE HAD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, UM, REGISTER ALREADY.

UM, BUT THIS IS A, AN EVENT THAT'S GETTING THE RESIDENTS FROM THIS NEIGHBORHOOD TO COME OUT AND CLEAN UP THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, BUT WITH OTHER VOLUNTEERS AS WELL.

UM, SO IF SOMEONE'S INTERESTED, UM, THEY COULD, THEY WOULD, WE WOULD APPRECIATE IF THEY'D REGISTER IN ADVANCE THAT MAKES SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES AND THEY KNOW WHERE TO MEET UP THINGS LIKE THAT.

UM, IF WE NEED TO ACCOMMODATE DAY OF VOLUNTEERS, I CAN CREATE A PLAN FOR THAT.

IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU GUYS THINK IS NEEDED.

OKAY.

SO, UM, ANOTHER THING THAT OUR DEPARTMENT DOES IS WE ANNUALLY HOST A SUMMIT, THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT, UM, AND PART OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT, WE, UH, GIVE OUT AWARDS TO, UH, FOUR DIFFERENT CATEGORIES WITHIN THE CITY.

UM, THIS SUMMIT IS HOSTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CITY OF PLANO AND THE CITY OF ROWLETT.

SO WE USUALLY HAVE 150 OR SO RESIDENTS FROM ALL THREE CITIES COME OUT, WE HAVE GET DIFFERENT GUEST SPEAKERS.

WE HAVE DIFFERENT TOPICS ANNUALLY.

UM, THIS YEAR I THINK THE TOPIC IS PERSEVERANCE, UM, BECAUSE WE'VE HAD SUCH A TOUGH YEAR.

UM, THIS YEAR IT IS HOSTED IN ROWLETT AND IT'S GONNA BE VIRTUAL.

SO VIRTUALLY HOSTED IN REAL IT.

UM, BUT WE ARE ASKING PEOPLE TO NOMINATE, UM, NOMINEES FOR FOUR DIFFERENT AWARDS, UH, GARLAND NEIGHBORHOOD OF A YEAR, MS. BETTY LIVES IN ONE OF OUR AWARD-WINNING NEIGHBORHOODS, UM, ALSO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER COMPETITION.

SO IF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD DOES A NEWSLETTER COMP OR CREATES A NEWSLETTER, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATIONS.

UM, WE ALSO HAVE THE WHO'S WHO IN GARLAND.

UM, THIS IS, CAN BE SOMEONE WHO'S, UM, WORKS OR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY JUST REALLY STAND OUT AND MAKE THEM A GREAT RESIDENT.

UM, AND THEN THE PUBLIC SERVANT AWARD, UM, SO FAR IT'S GONE TO A FIREFIGHTER AND A POLICEMAN.

SO IT, I WANT TO SEE A BRANCH OUT TO ANOTHER GENRE OF EMPLOYEES, BUT YOU KNOW, MAYBE SOMEONE FROM PUBLIC HEALTH, PUBLIC HEALTH, MAYBE THIS YEAR MIGHT BE APROPOS.

UM, SO YEAH, SO, UM, WE HAVE THOSE FOUR CATEGORIES, OCTOBER NOMINATIONS ARE DUE BY OCTOBER 28TH.

AND, UM, WE'D LOVE TO GET AS MANY NOMINATIONS AS WE CAN CAUSE EVEN THE ONES WHO DON'T WIN, STILL GET RECOGNIZED AT THE PRE-SUMMIT MIXER.

HOW DO WE NOMINATE PEOPLE? YES.

SO YOU GO INTO GARLAND

[00:10:01]

NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG AND YOU CLICK ON THIS ICON OF THE TROPHY AND THERE, YOU CAN SEE ALL THE CATEGORIES AND YOU CAN SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATIONS.

IS THERE A FORM? SO YOU CAN, I MEAN, WE JUST BETTE.

YEAH.

THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.

THAT'S DONE.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT ONE, NANCY? YEAH.

YOU CAN NOMINATE BETTY FOR A WHO'S WHO IN GARLAND.

SO IT HAS QUESTIONS TO, TO, TO KIND OF HELP YOU FOCUS RATHER THAN JUST RANDOMLY WRITING AN ESSAY.

YEAH.

THERE'S ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT QUESTIONS PER CATEGORY.

AND THEN YOU'RE ASKED TO KIND OF EXPLAIN THE PERSON AND WHY THEY DESERVE TO BE NOMINATED.

AND THEN WE ALSO ASKED FOR A HEADSHOT OF THE PERSON AND THEN, UM, THEN THEY WILL BE COMPARED TO THE OTHER APPLICANTS AND DECIDED UPON ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD AWARDS.

OKAY.

WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU GUYS NOMINATE UM, DO NOT DISTURB, I DON'T KNOW WHAT BUILDING FALLING IN THAT IS AN IMPORTANT WOMAN.

UM, SO THE PRE THE SUMMIT MIXER OR THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT IS ON NOVEMBER 6TH THIS YEAR.

UM, AND YOU CAN FIND OUT MORE ABOUT IT IN GARLIC NEIGHBORHOODS DOT O R G OR IN THAT.

UM, OKAY.

SO THE WINNERS THAT SAYS IT WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE NOVEMBER 4TH PRE SUMMIT MIXER.

AND SO THAT'S ON THE NOVEMBER 4TH.

SO THE, THE, THE PRE-SUMMIT MIXER IS A LITTLE PARTY THAT WE HAVE TO GET EVERYONE EXCITED AND PUMPED UP.

WE OFTEN INVITE THE GUEST SPEAKER TO JUST KIND OF MINGLE WITH PEOPLE.

UM, IS THIS GONNA BE VIRTUAL TOO? OH, THAT'S STILL DEPENDS ON THE CLIMATE IN NOVEMBER.

UM, AS OF RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE THE ATRIUM BOOKED AND WE'RE PLANNING ON HAVING CATERING IN A FULL DINNER, BUT, UM, DEPENDING ON HOW THINGS GO AROUND THAT TIME, WE MIGHT MOVE TO VIRTUAL.

UM, TYPICALLY WE DO IT EITHER AT THE ATRIUM WHEN YEAR WE DID A GOOD SAMARITANS AND IT WAS ALSO A CAN DRIVE.

UM, LAST YEAR IT WAS HER ACTUAL, UM, BUT LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS THIS YEAR.

HANDS ON IF EVERYONE PLAYS WELL.

ARE YOU STILL, UM, THE, UH, LIKE THE, THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED NEIGHBORHOOD, UH, MEET AND GREETS? IS THAT STILL SORT OF A, IS THERE ANY TIMETABLE FOR GETTING THOSE BACK FACEBOOK? YEAH, THAT'S UM, WE WERE HOPING TO DO ONE JULY, I THINK, IN PERSON AND IT ENDED UP GETTING CANCELED, UM, JUST CAUSE THE CASE NUMBERS.

UM, YEAH, AS OF RIGHT NOW, THERE'S, WE'RE JUST STAYING WITH VIRTUAL FOR THE MOST PART OF WHAT KIND OF TURNOUT DO YOU GET WITH THOSE VIRTUAL EVENTS? UM, THE VIRTUALS ARE DEFINITELY IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC WHO WAS GREAT.

LIKE 60 PEOPLE WOULD COME TO MEETINGS, BUT NOW IT'S LIKE 12.

YEAH.

I THINK PEOPLE ARE JUST ZOOMED OUT.

SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY.

WE CAN ALL GATHER AND HUG AND PLAY WITH EACH OTHER.

YEAH.

ANY SANDWICHES OR WHATEVER, MEETING THE GOLDILOCKS ROOM ON THE THIRD FLOOR.

ARE THERE ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT GETTING ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE PARTY TRAILERS SINCE THEY'RE SO POPULAR? UM, IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED BY COUNSEL.

UM, THE PROBLEM IS OUR DEPARTMENT IS ONLY THREE OF US, SO LAURA AND I ARE DRIVING THE TRAILER, DROPPING IT OFF, PICKING IT UP, CLEANING IT OUT.

IT'S JUST A LOT OF WORK.

ALSO, OUR DEPARTMENT DOES NOT HAVE A VEHICLE, SO WE HAVE TO BORROW VEHICLES TO DELIVER THE TRAILER.

SO, UH, JUST LOGISTICALLY IT'S, IT'S PRETTY DIFFICULT TO DO THE LOAD THAT WE HAVE NOW.

UM, WE GOT ANOTHER STAFFER AND A TRUCK WE WOULD LOVE TO.

YEAH.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO YOU HAVE TO BOOK THE PARTY TRAILER? IT'S LIKE WE'RE HAVING A BLOCK PARTY FOR, YOU KNOW, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

IT'S LIKE, IS IT ALREADY BOOKED FIVE YEARS OUT? UM, THE EARLIEST THAT YOU CAN BOOK IT AS SIX MONTHS OUT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS SUCH A HOT ONE THAT IT'S A RAFFLE SYSTEM.

UM, SO WE WILL DRAW OUR, I THINK WE ALREADY DREW THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

LAURA TAKES CARE OF ALL THAT UP.

SORRY.

I'M NOT A HUNDRED PERCENT SURE ON THAT.

UM, THE MINIMUM IS TWO WEEKS.

SO IF, IF YOU HAVE A DATE AND YOU CALL US AND IT'S STILL AVAILABLE, THEN WE CAN BOOK IT.

BUT I KNOW, UM, ALL OF SEPTEMBER, ALL OF OCTOBER IS BOOKED.

I THINK, I THINK THERE'S A FEW WEEKENDS LEFT IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.

I'VE TRIED TO BOOK IT BEFORE.

IT'S LIKE TRYING TO BOOK THE OSCAR MEYER WIENER.

UM, I WILL TELL YOU OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, IT KNOCKED OVER THE 23RD.

WE'RE HAVING A BLOCK PARTY THAT NIGHT.

SO I HAVE PLENTY TO DO, I'M DOING CLEAN UP IN THE MORNING AND PARTYING AT NIGHT.

SO THAT'S A BUSY

[00:15:01]

DAY.

IT IS, IT'S REALLY FUN.

WAIT, IT SAYS REAL BIG ON THE SIDE OF IT BLOCK PARTY TRAILER.

AND SO WHEN IT PULLS INTO YOUR, WE USUALLY DROP IT OFF ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON OR FRIDAY, AND THEN IT'S SITTING IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ALL WEEKEND AND IT'S LIKE A GIANT ADVERTISING BOARD FOR YOUR PARTY.

UM, AND IT'S FULL.

I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT A PICTURE OF IT.

I'M SORRY.

IT'S FULL OF CHAIRS, TABLES, PICNIC TABLES.

IT'S GOT A LIKE CORN HOLE AND, UM, LEG DARKS.

UM, IT'S GOT JINGA, IT'S GOT HULA-HOOPS AND COMBS AND, UH, CHALK AND ALL SORTS OF GOODIES IN THERE.

JUST, YOU KNOW, WATER BOTTLES AND PEOPLE.

YEAH.

NANCY, ARE YOU GUYS THE ONLY DEPARTMENT IN THE CITY THAT HAS THOSE PARTY TRAILERS THAT, YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD ONE TOO.

I THINK THAT THERE'S JUST NOT FOR PUBLIC USE.

IT'S JUST FOR THEIR EVENTS EDUCATION.

YES.

BUT OURS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT RESIDENTS CAN RENT USE.

UM, I KNOW LIKE PLAY STREETS ALSO HAS A PARTY TRAILER, BUT IT'S ONLY FOR WHEN THEY ARE HOSTING EVENTS AS WELL.

UM, YEAH, BUT I BELIEVE OURS IS THE ONLY ONE.

WE DROP IT OFF ON A THURSDAY OR FRIDAY, AND THEN WE COME AND PICK IT UP ON MONDAY.

SO YOU HAVE THE KEYS TO IT ALL WEEKEND.

AND WHEN WE WENT TO GO DROP IT OFF LAST WEEK AND THE WOMAN'S LIKE, DOES THIS MEAN I COULD THROW A PARTY EVERY NIGHT, THIS WEEKEND? OR LIKE WAS A LOT OF WORK? UM, IS THERE A DEPOSIT ON THAT OR NO.

NO, BUT YOU DO HAVE TO BE A REGISTERED, REGISTERED NEIGHBORHOOD GROUP, UM, AND HAVE LIKE A TRACK HISTORY WITH OUR DEPARTMENT.

UM, BUT IT'S, IT'S PRETTY EASY TO REGISTER.

THERE'S NO FEE TO USING IT.

UM, YEAH.

AND WE'LL ASK QUESTION, NANCY, JUST TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR, THE GRANT.

YOU SAID THAT IT'S LIKE UP TO A HUNDRED THOUSAND.

YEAH.

IT'S FOR, UM, REPAIRS OR IMPROVEMENTS IN COMMON SPACES WITHIN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, YOU ALSO HAVE TO BE A REGISTERED GROUP WITHIN, UH, WITHIN OUR DEPARTMENT INTO APPLY FOR THE GRANT.

YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION HAS TO HAVE A VALID BANK ACCOUNT.

UM, AND SO IT'S DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF WORK YOU GET DONE AND WHAT KIND OF ASSOCIATION YOU HAVE.

UM, THERE IS, THERE IS A MATCHING PORTION TO SOME OF IT OF, SO FOR EXAMPLE, MY NEIGHBORHOOD, WE PUT IN, UM, THOSE SIGN TOPPERS THAT GO ON TOP OF IT, A STOP SIGN, IT SAYS THE STREET NAMES.

AND THEN WE PUT A SIGN THAT SAYS CHANDLER HEIGHTS ON TOP.

AND SO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD HAD TO PAY, I THINK IT WAS LIKE $300 AND THE CITY PAID THE REMAINDER OF THE BILL.

SO, UM, IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

WE'VE SEEN NEIGHBORHOODS PUT IN LIKE BENCHES AND GRILLS AND, UH, ENTRYWAY SIGNS SAY WELCOME TO BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, UM, LANDSCAPING, UM, OURS PAVILIONS.

YEAH, THAT'S THE THING.

THE RESIDENTS ARE THEIR OWN PROJECT MANAGERS.

SO THEY HAVE TO GET THE ESTIMATES, UM, WORK WITH THE CONTRACTORS, DO ALL THAT.

WE JUST FACILITATE THE FUNDING OF IT.

UM, AND SO THERE'S TWO APPLICATION WINDOWS AND I'M, THIS IS RUN BY THE PLANNER.

SO I'M SORRY IF I MISQUOTE IT, BUT, UM, THERE'S SEPTEMBER 23RD AND I THINK IT'S MARCH 23RD OR THE APPLICATION DATES.

RIGHT.

AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO APPLY, YOU NEED TO SUBMIT A LETTER OF INTENT OF APPLICATION TWO MONTHS BEFORE THAT.

AND SO THAT LETTER OF INTENT KIND OF THERE'S, IT'S ALL ON GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG.

UM, AND YOU KIND OF OUTLINE WHAT YOU'RE THINKING OF DOING WITH YOUR PROJECT.

AND THEN WE GO, UM, BEHIND THE SCENES AND TALK TO FIRE AND THE PARKS DEPARTMENT, ALL THE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS THAT WOULD BE AFFECTED BY YOUR PROJECTS AND KIND OF, YOU KNOW, GET, MAKE SURE THAT THE PROJECT IS GOING TO WORK.

OKAY.

AND THEN, UM, THE 23RD, MARCH 23RD, AND SEPTEMBER 23RD, YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATIONS WITH YOUR ESTIMATES AND YOUR SCOPE OF WORK AND PICTURES AND ALL THAT.

AND THEN OUR PLANNER TAKES IT BEFORE COUNCIL, UM, PRESENTS THE IDEA AND IT EITHER GETS FUNDED OR NOT.

USUALLY THEY GET FUNDED OCCASIONALLY THERE'S LIKE, OH, WE NEED TO MODIFY THIS OR CHANGE THIS.

UM, AND THEN I BELIEVE YOU HAVE ONE YEAR AFTER YOU'RE APPROVED TO COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT AND THEN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS REIMBURSED FOR THE, FOR THE WORK.

SO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD HAS TO PAY UPFRONT AND THEN UNLESS YOU GET A CONTRACTOR THAT'S WILLING TO WORK ON, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER THAT WORD IS, UM, WORK AND GET PAID LATER ON.

UM, BUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD PAYS UP FRONT AND THEN YOU SUBMIT ALL THE RECEIPTS AND THEN WE REIMBURSE AT THE LEVEL THAT YOU SAID WE WOULD REIMBURSE YOU AT BEFORE.

OKAY.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

YEAH, OF COURSE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO, BUT JUST FYI, UH, EACH MONTH THAT'S PART OF MY RESPONSIBILITY ON THIS BOARD IS TO REPORT WHAT'S GOING ON IN ONB.

AND SO I KEEP THEM ABREAST ON WHAT THE STATUS OF THE GRANTS ARE.

AND

[00:20:01]

THAT'S WHAT STUFF ON A MONTHLY BASIS TONIGHT YOU STOLE PART OF MY THUNDER, BUT I'LL FORGET THIS TIME I'VE BEEN REPORTING ON EVERY MONTH.

ABSOLUTELY.

WELL, LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU'RE SUBSCRIBED TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD CHATTER NEWSLETTER, RIGHT? YES.

OKAY, GOOD.

YEAH.

SO IF YOU GO INTO GARLIN NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG, YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR OUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, JUST CAME OUT TONIGHT.

UM, WE UPDATE YOU ON DIFFERENT PROJECTS THAT WE'RE DOING OR DIFFERENT EVENTS HAPPENING AROUND THE CITY.

UM, AND IT'S A GOOD, AND THERE'S A LITTLE TIPS AND TRICKS AND EVERYTHING.

SO IT'S A GREAT NEWSLETTER.

OKAY.

IN MY LAST SLIDE, UM, NOVEMBER 30TH, WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH A RETREAT, WHICH, UM, JUST ANNOUNCED THE OTHER DAY THAT ARE NOW AN AFFILIATE PARTNER OF KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL.

UM, AND RETREAT FOCUSES ON GOING INTO AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS AND REPLANTING THE URBAN FOREST.

UM, SO THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, THE WHERE THE HARDEST NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDED BY FOREST GARLAND MILLER AND SHILOH WAS THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WAS MOST HEAVILY IMPACTED BY THE OCTOBER, 2019 TORNADO.

UM, SO WE WILL BE PLANTING 200 TREES IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD.

AND, UM, A COUPLE OF THE TREES WILL GO INTO CENTRAL PARK, WHICH IS ACROSS GARLAND ROAD FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM, IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT TIME.

WE'LL START OFF ABOUT NOON AS A KICK-OFF CEREMONY.

THIS IS ALSO RIGHT AROUND ARBOR DAY.

SO I'LL HAVE A LITTLE ARBOR DAY PROCLAMATION.

UM, AND THEN VOLUNTEERS WILL BE TRAINED IN CENTRAL PARK, HOW TO CORRECTLY PLANT AND MULCH TREES.

AND THEN, UM, THEN THEY WILL MIGRATE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND EACH THEY'LL BREAK OFF INTO DIFFERENT GROUPS AND GO PLANT THE TREES TO THE RESIDENTS ON THE RESIDENTS' HOME.

UM, RESIDENTS NEED TO REGISTER BY OCTOBER 15TH, IF THEY WOULD LIKE A TREE PLANTED.

AND THEN THE PLANTING WILL BE ON NOVEMBER 13TH.

UM, RETREAT.ORG, BACKSLASH GARLAND IS WHERE THEY WOULD GO TO REGISTER.

UM, THIS PLANTING ON NOVEMBER 13TH IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, BUT IF THERE ARE RESIDENTS OUTSIDE OF THIS NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WERE IMPACTED BY THE TORNADO, THEY CAN ALSO REGISTER ON RETREAT AND RETREAT.

WE'LL COME BACK AND PLANT IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD LATER ON.

UM, BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE DAMAGE MAP, IT IS PRETTY MUCH THIS NEIGHBORHOOD.

THERE'S A FEW HOUSES OUTSIDE, BUT NOT VERY MANY.

UM, SO THIS IS ON NOVEMBER 13TH AND THEN, OH, THE BEST PART.

UM, AFTER THE PLANTING IS OVER, UM, THE VOLUNTEERS ARE INVITED BACK AS WELL AS THE RESIDENT HOMEOWNERS TO BACK TO CENTRAL PARK.

WE'LL BE HAVING A SMALL PARTY, GET A LITTLE BAND AND SOME FOOD, UM, LOCAL FOOD COMPANY FROM REVOLVING KITCHEN WILL BE CATERING AND SAMSON'S HOTDOGS.

UM, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT.

UM, WE'RE STILL TRYING TO FIND THE BAND RIGHT NOW, BUT, UM, IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT PARTY.

IT'S GOING TO BE IN CENTRAL PARK, A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY TO HANG OUT AT GRANGER REC CENTER AFTER THEY CLOSE.

SO WE INVITE YOU TO COME VOLUNTEER AND THEREFORE COME TO THE PARTY AS WELL.

BUT YOU GOT TO PUT IN YOUR HARD WORK TO GET PARTY TICKETS.

UM, I DON'T HAVE ANY FLYERS FOR RETREAT.

I'M STILL WORKING WITH PMR TO GET THOSE CREATED.

UM, BUT I CAN SHARE THOSE WITH BETTY WHENEVER THEY'RE FINISHED.

THEY'RE BEING TRANSLATED RIGHT NOW INTO SPANISH.

UM, THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, THE WHERE THE HARDEST NEIGHBORHOOD IS PREDOMINANTLY SPANISH SPEAKING.

SO ALL OF OUR, UM, COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE BEEN BILINGUAL AND THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT, UNLESS ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS.

NANCY WAS THE BEST WAY TO GET AHOLD OF YOU IF CITIZENS WILL KNOW.

YEAH.

SO I HAVE MY BUSINESS CARD.

THESE ARE AROUND, UM, ALL MY CONTACT INFO IS ON THE CARD.

UM, EMAIL IS MY PREFERRED METHOD, BUT I WILL DEFINITELY CALL YOU BACK IF I MISSED YOUR CALL.

OKAY.

WELL, NANCY, THERE'S ONE THING I WANT TO ADD TO IT THAT THIS RE THIS, UH, EVENT IS, HAS MORE THAN HAS SEVERAL CITY DEPARTMENTS, UH, WORKING WITH IT.

UH, G P AND L, AND THE PARKS DEPARTMENT AND EVENTS, PLANNING PLANNERS, AND IT'S, IT'S, UH, INVOLVING SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS IN THE CITY.

SO WE, UM, ESPECIALLY GEN-Z IS HELPING US WITH LOGISTICS OF LIKE THE STAGE AND THE FIRE AND ALL THAT, YOU KNOW, EVENT LOGISTICS.

UM, WE ALSO HAVE PUBLIC MEDIA RELATIONS HAS BEEN CREATING THE FLYERS, G P AND L WAS THE ONE WHO DONATED THE 200 TREES FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

UM,

[00:25:01]

KEEP GIRL IN BEAUTIFUL IS VERY ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATING AS WELL.

UM, I THINK THAT'S ABOUT ALL VOLUNTEERS.

PARKS IS THE ONE WHO'S HELPING DECIDE, WHICH KIND OF TREES WE'RE PLANTING AND WHERE IN CENTRAL PARK AND, UM, GP NELL'S ALSO HELPING DO LINE LOCATE OR, UM, TREE LOCATIONS AND UTILITY LINES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

WELL, HOW MANY VOLUNTEERS DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GONNA NEED? WE NEED AT LEAST 200 VOLUNTEERS.

I SAY ONE VOLUNTEER PER TREE.

UM, USUALLY THE VOLUNTEERS WORK IN GROUPS OF THREE TO FOUR AND THEY'LL DO A COUPLE THEY'LL DO ABOUT FOUR HOUSES PER GROUP.

AND, UM, SO WE'LL BE PLANTING.

I BELIEVE IT'S 25 TREES IN CENTRAL PARK BECAUSE CENTRAL PARK DID LOSE A LOT OF TREES AT NIGHT.

AND THEN, UM, THE OTHER 1 75 WILL GO INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND WE'VE GOT FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF TREES.

UH SHUMAR DOKE, CHINK, OPIN, OAK, TEXAS, RED OAK, AND ONE OTHER KIND.

I DON'T REMEMBER IT, BUT, AND THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT UNLESS ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS.

OKAY.

AND THE QUESTIONS.

WELL, THANK YOU, NANCY.

THANK YOU, NANCY FOR COMING HERE, BETTY, DO YOU HAVE ANY CUTE GIRL AND BEAUTIFUL MINUTES? AND, AND I'M GOING TO SAY THAT TIME.

SHE KNOWS HE STOLE KENNIS THUNDER.

SHE STOLE SOME OF MINE, BUT THAT'S FINE THAT, UH, I S LAST MONTH I SAID, AH, WELL, WE'VE GOT ALL THIS GOING ON, BUT I THINK NANCY COULD DO A BETTER JOB.

SO I'M GLAD THAT YOU CAME TO DO IT.

YES, WE ARE BUSY.

THEIR LOT OF US THAT ARE BUSY.

UM, THE, UH, LAST SUNDAY, UH, THERE WAS THE, UM, ADOPT A HIGHWAY AND, UM, UH, THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF THAT, UH, SAID, UH, HE HAD 10 VOLUNTEERS FROM THE KEY CLUB AT GARLAND HIGH SCHOOL TO HELP HIM WITH THAT.

AND THAT IS REALLY GOOD.

MOST OF THE TIME, MOST OF THE TIME HE'S OUT THERE BY HIMSELF.

WELL, NOT EXACTLY BY HIMSELF, BUT MAYBE TWO PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH HIM.

SO THAT WAS TREMENDOUS THAT TO HAVE, UH, HAVE THOSE PEOPLE THERE.

AND ON, UM, OCTOBER THE SECOND WE'RE DOING THE, UM, TRI-CITY CLEANUP THAT I KEEP, I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT NOW FOR SO LONG, UH, ON A FRIDAY MORNING, WE'RE HA WE'RE HAVING A ZOOM MEETING, UH, OF THE, OF THE PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, BOARD TYPE PEOPLE TO REALLY FINALIZE WHAT WE'RE DOING.

AND THE PLAN IS LIKE WE DID LAST YEAR, THERE WILL BE NO CENTRAL MEETING PLACE.

WE WILL NOT MEET AT THE, UM, UH, WHEREVER IT IS WE MET.

WE'RE NOT SHRINERS.

UH, WE WILL NOT MEET IN A CENTRAL LOCATION.

WE'LL HAVE, UM, UM, UH, STATIONS ALL, ALL THE WAY AROUND, UH, FOR PEOPLE TO GO WORK.

AND WE'RE ASKING PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR A PARTICULAR SPOT AND, UM, THE REAL NAME IT'S TO CLEAN UP AROUND LAKE RAY HUBBARD, BUT IT'S REALLY A WATER WASTE CLEAN UP BECAUSE THE CREEKS THAT GO INTO IT, PLUS EVERY PLACE IN GARLAND, EXCEPT ONE LITTLE TINY SPOT IS PART OF A WATERSHED.

UM, IT'S LESS THAN A HALF A MILE AREA THAT DOESN'T HAVE A CREEK RUNNING THROUGH IT OR TRIBUTARY OR SOMETHING.

AND, UM, SO MY PART I'M ASKING PEOPLE TO SIGN UP TO CLEAN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS, AND ALREADY CAMELOT HAS TAUGHT.

THEY'VE ALREADY SIGNED UP FROM CAMELOT.

UH, I'VE HAD VOLUNTEERS FROM, UH, UH, LIGHT VIEW HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED ME UP FROM GARLAND HIGH FROM NORTH GARLAND.

AND I KNOW SOMEBODY ELSE HAS, CAUSE I SAW IT ON MY PHONE JUST BEFORE I GOT HERE.

THIS, SOMEBODY ELSE'S, UH, CONTACTED AND WANTING TO KNOW WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT.

WE PROVIDE THOSE BAGS LIKE YOU SAW AND THOSE BIG HOOKS, UH, WHICH ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

THEY'RE CALLED GRABBERS.

I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE CALLED.

UM, AND WE PROVIDE THOSE AND BAGS AND THOSE LITTLE PICK HER UP OR THINGS THAT I CALL GRABBERS AND, UH, GLOVES.

DID I NAME THAT? ANYWAY, WE, WE DO ALL THAT.

AND THE PLAN IS THAT WHEN THEY PICK THEIR SPOT THAT I WILL, AND WHOEVER IDENTIFIES THEMSELVES, I'LL TAKE THEIR SUPPLIES TO THEM.

AS I SAID, I'M THE UPS MAN IN THIS PART.

AND SO I START DOING THAT, UH, HOW ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, UH, WHICH WILL BE, UH, SEPTEMBER 30TH IN, UM, SEPTEMBER 29TH AND 30TH, I'LL BE DELIVERING THESE TO THE DIFFERENT

[00:30:01]

PEOP TO PEOPLE WHO ARE THE GROUP LEADERS AND THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR, UH, THEIR SPOT AND THEIR, UH, COLLECTIONS AND KEEPING ACCOUNT AND ALL THIS.

SO THAT IS GOING ON.

I THINK IT'S EITHER THE 24TH OR 25TH, UH, PEOPLE FROM DALLAS AND RALLIES AND GARLAND ARE MEETING AND WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER GOODIE BAGS.

AND LAST YEAR, THOSE WERE REALLY NICE GOODY BAGS, AND WE'RE DOING IT AGAIN THIS YEAR.

AND, UM, WE'RE MEETING IN RALLY IT, AND WE'LL GIVE EVERYBODY WHO TAKES PART IN THIS ONE OF THESE BAGS.

SO WHEN I SAY GOODIE BAGS, I MEAN THEIR TOTE BAGS, GOOD USABLE TOTE BAGS.

AND WE WILL HAVE, UH, UM, WHAT REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES CUPS.

UM, AND THEY SAID THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO PUT MANY PAPER PRODUCTS IN IT CAUSE WE DON'T WANT PEOPLE LITTERING, YOU KNOW, WHILE WE'RE TRYING TO PICK IT UP.

SO THERE'LL BE REALLY NICE THINGS IN THAT GOODIE BAG.

SO IF YOU SIGN UP TO HELP US, YOU'LL GET ONE.

UH, BUT WITH THERE WAS NO CENTRAL MEETING PLACE THAT, AND PEOPLE ARE REALLY SAYING WHAT WE AREN'T WE GOING TO HAVE THIS PARTY? AREN'T WE GOING TO HAVE OUR HOT DOGS SINCE I KNOW WE'RE NOT DOING ANY OF THAT, BUT, UH, THE, AND THIS IS SCHEDULED FROM 10 TO 12, UM, UH, CLEANUP TIME ON THAT DAY.

THAT'S JUST ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE GOT INVOLVED, TOM, YOU READY TO HEAR THE REST OF THEM? UM, YOU CAN SIGN UP WITH ME THAT'S ONE WAY OR, UH, YOU CAN GO TO TRI CITY CLEANUP.

AND, UH, WHEN YOU PUT THAT IN, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU PUT.ORG OR.COM OR WHATEVER YOU PUT IN, IT'S NOT GOING TO MATTER.

IT'LL COME UP AND THEY HAVE A, UM, EVENT, BRIGHT SIGN UP I'M THERE AND THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE ALSO.

BUT FOR PEOPLE IN GARLAND, I JUST SAY SIGN UP WITH ME BECAUSE THAT'S EASIER.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO SEND ME THE INFORMATION IS SO LONG.

SO IT'S JUST TO SEND YOU AN EMAIL OR AN EMAIL.

I NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.

YOU WANT MY EMAIL ADDRESS? ALL RIGHT.

IT'S B T ROBERTS THIRTY7@GMAIL.COM.

THANK YOU.

YOU SHOULD ALSO BE IN THE EMAIL LIST.

UM, THAT'S THAT'S OKAY.

THEN, UM, OCTOBER THE 23RD, WE HEARD THE STORY FROM NANCY.

WE'RE DOING THIS CLEANUP AND WE'VE HAD APPARENTLY REALLY GOOD RESPONSE ALREADY.

UH, SHE WAS, SHE WAS TELLING ME BEFORE THE MEETING THAT THEY STARTED COMING IN AND SHE WASN'T READY.

SHE DIDN'T KNOW, YOU KNOW, SO SHE HAD TO REALLY GET BUSY TO GET THEM SIGNED UP, WHICH IS THAT'S GOOD.

I WAS GLAD TO SEE THAT THEN ON, UM, NOVEMBER THE 13TH, WE'RE DOING THE RETREAT AND I WANT TO ENCOURAGE EVERY RETREAT THAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT.

I WANT TO ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY TO TAKE PART IN THAT.

IT'S GOING TO BE A VERY, UM, YOU'LL BE IMPRESSED WITH WHAT ALL GOES DOWN.

IT IS.

IT'S, IT'S A VERY GOOD THING.

THESE PEOPLE ARE GETTING TREES THAT WERE TORN UP IN THE TORNADO AND, AND, UH, I, THIS WAS DONE IN RALLY AFTER THE, UM, TORNADO HIT IN RALLY.

AND I WENT TO, I WENT TO THAT, THAT DAY AND THE, THE GUY WHO'S IN CHARGE OF THIS IS NAMED GRADY BEHIND, I THINK, IS HIS LAST NAME.

AND, UH, I MET HIM THERE AND, UH, OCTOBER, IT WAS, I MEAN, NOT, IT WAS DONE IN DECEMBER A YEAR LATER.

AND, UH, SO THIS WAS ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO THAT I MET HIM THERE AND, UH, RALLY UP.

UM, THAT'S PART OF IT.

NOW WE HAVE A NEW THING THAT'S CALLED THE NORTH TEXAS CHALLENGE, CLEANUP, CLEAN CITY CHALLENGE.

I THINKS THE EXACT NAME.

AND IT GOES FROM SEPTEMBER THE FIRST TO OCTOBER 31ST.

AND ANYTIME YOU PICK UP TRASH NOW, NOT YOUR OWN TRASH THAT YOU TAKE OUTSIDE, BUT ANYTIME YOU PICK UP TRASH ANYWHERE, IF YOU'LL LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH YOU GOT, I JUST TOLD KENNETH, HE SAID HE HAD TWO BAGS.

THIS WILL GO INTO THE COUNT AND YOU ALL SIGNED UP FOR IT THROUGH EWS.

AND I HAVE DONE IT THROUGH, UH, KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL.

AND I THINK PAULA IS DOING IT THROUGH STORMWATER.

I'M NOT SURE THEY'RE THAT FOUR DIFFERENT GROUPS IN GARLAND HAVE SIGNED UP.

AND, UH, SO WE GET CREDIT FOR KEEP, OH, KEEP GOING, BEAUTIFUL, KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL.

AND WE GET CREDIT THROUGH THIS, UH, UM, CHALLENGE THAT'S, WE'RE CALLING IT THE CLEANUP CHALLENGE.

AND IT IS JUST TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE

[00:35:01]

TO BE AWARE OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

AND THIS IS DEFINITELY YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

YOU CLOSE TO YOU WHAT YOU ENCOUNTER FREQUENTLY.

AND SO WE ARE INVOLVED IN ALL THIS, A LOT OF IT, WHICH I HAVE NOT MENTIONED, THE BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMS THAT WE DO, AND THAT'S WORKING AT, UH, ARMSTRONG PARK AND AT, UH, UH, SPRING CREEK FOREST PRESERVE.

AND WE'VE AT THE SCHOOLS THAT WE HAVE DONE.

AND FOR THOSE OF, YOU KNOW, WHO WHAT'S GOING ON AT PARK MOTT PARK PARK CREST ELEMENTARY, I'M GOING TO GET IT OUT IN A MINUTE.

ALIMENTARI ARE YOU AWARE OF THE, THEY HAVE FENCED OFF THE WHOLE PANEL PLAYGROUND AND THEY EPA TYPE PEOPLE, UH, HAVE AND TORN UP OUR WHOLE DEMONSTRATION GARDEN, ONE 11 LED.

AND SO WE WERE SO PROUD OF THAT.

WE PLANTED IT, WE PUT OUT THE PLANTS, THE TREES OR SHRUBS, UM, YOU KNOW, WE, AND WE HAVE DONE SEVERAL OUTDOOR LEARNING, UH, EVENTS USED TO BE THERE ON THAT SITE.

NO, UH, IT WAS, UH, UH, UM, SHILOH.

IT WAS GLOBE UNION BATTERY'S ON SHALLOW.

THIS IS, THIS IS AN ONGOING THING EVER SINCE I'VE BEEN LIVING IN GARLAND.

AND I LIVE ON A LITTLE CREEK BANK THAT THEY HAVE TAKEN, UH, SAMPLES OF THAT CREEK BACK BEHIND MY HOUSE, ANY NUMBER OF TIMES FOR LEAD AND FOR OTHER CHEMICALS TYPE STUFF THAT WOULD BE THERE.

UH, BUT SO THIS TIME THEY DID, IT REALLY DID TAKE ACTION UNTIL THAT.

SO OUR LITTLE DEMONSTRATION GARDEN THAT WE WERE SO PROUD OF HIM AND WE HIT BRAGGED ON SO MUCH IS GONE.

IT WAS, IT WAS, IT WAS, AND THAT'S GONE.

YEAH.

GREAT.

WHEN THEY TEAR THAT UP, WHERE ARE THEY? OH, WELL, I DON'T KNOW ROBERTSON THAT THEY'RE GOING TO TEAR IT ALL UP.

AND THEY SAID WE CAN PUT THE PLANTS BACK.

THEY WOULD CLEAN THE ROOTS.

I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND PUTTING IT BACK AND YOU DON'T DO THAT WITH GRASS.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH WHEN THEY FINISH, GET IT ALL DONE.

AND IT'S A, LIKE A YEAR AND A HALF PROJECT.

AND IF THEY CALL ME TO COME GET A BIRD HOUSE THAT WAS RIGHT OUTSIDE THE FENCE, WE HAD AN EAGLE SCOUT PROJECTS.

I SAID, WELL, THIS OUTSIDE OF THE FENCE, I'LL COME GET IT.

IT'S INSIDE.

YOU CAN HAVE IT ANYWAY.

SO THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE INVOLVED IN.

UM, UM, WELL, WE HAVE PLENTY TO DO.

I'M ASKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP ALONG WITH SOME OF THESE PLENTY TO DO THINGS LIKE TO SEE ALL THESE OKAY.

I'M THROUGH FINALLY.

NO, THE ANSWER'S NO.

AND READY, RECYCLING THIS KNOWING YESTERDAY.

NOW I JUST WANT TO, I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT ON IT.

I WAS KIND OF LIKE I WAS LOOKING AT SOMEWHERE ON THE WEBSITE AND I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED ON OUR STREET.

I WAS HERE, THERE WAS A CLIP ON THE WEBSITE ABOUT A SMALL CONCRETE, UH, A RECYCLING FACILITY THAT WE HAVE AND THEY BREAK UP YOUR HERBS AND STUFF.

THEY'LL TAKE IT THERE AND THEY'LL CRUSH IT AND OVERUSE IT.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS INTERESTING THAT WE DID THAT.

IT ISN'T OVER BY THE LANDFILL.

YEAH, IT IS.

BUT IT'S PRIVATE.

IT'S NOT CITY OWNED.

IT'S NOT CITY, IT'S NOT PRIVATE MOST ALL THE RECYCLING AND THE AREAS PRIVATELY ON.

I GOT A QUESTION AND YOU'RE, YOU'LL, YOU'LL PROBABLY KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS, ANYBODY.

YEAH.

I UNDERSTAND THAT IN THE NAVY, THEY CRUSH GLASS BACK INTO SAND AND DUMP IT BACK INTO THE OCEAN RATHER THAN THROW IT AWAY.

THERE'S A, WELL, IT MAY BE ON JUST CERTAIN S UH, I HAVE A FRIEND WHO'S IN THE NAVY AND THEY WERE TELLING ME THAT IN THE NUCLEAR SUBS, ESPECIALLY THEY CRUSH GLASS AND CREATE SAND OUT OF IT AND DUMP THE SAND BACK IN THE OCEAN.

YEAH.

I MEAN, CAUSE THAT'S WHAT GLASS CAME FROM.

SO IS THERE A, IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE THAT A MORE USEFUL PROJECT FOR OTHER, I MEAN, IT'S, IT'S NOT LIKE A FANTASTIC IDEA THAT WE REALLY ANSWERED.

YOU'RE SAYING, I MEAN, I'M GONNA LOOK INTO IT.

I'VE I'VE HONESTLY, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT.

I SPENT 22 YEARS IN THE NAVY AND EVER NUCLEAR SUB.

NO, THAT'S PROBABLY WHY MAYBE IT SOUNDS INTERESTING.

I MEAN, IF THE, IF THE TECHNOLOGY EXISTS SEEMS LIKE WE CAN, WE CAN PLAY THAT TO, TO A LARGER AUDIENCE.

YEAH.

I MEAN, YEAH, THE PROBLEM IS THERE'S NO MONEY IN IT.

WELL, YOU'RE CLEARLY NOT DUMPING BOTTLES

[00:40:01]

INTO THE OCEAN.

THERE'S GOOD.

AND THAT, WHICH IS VERY NICE FOR RECYCLE.

NOTHING'S WRONG WITH INTRINSIC GOODNESS INDUSTRY, WON'T BE INTERESTED.

OKAY.

OKAY.

I HAVE ANOTHER THING TO SAY ABOUT RECYCLING.

LAST MONTH I ASKED HE REALLY ISN'T REPLACED TO RECYCLE FABRIC FABRIC, AND I HAVE DONE ALL THIS RESEARCH AND I FOUND THIS PLACE IN NEW YORK THAT WILL SEND ME THIS BIG CONTAINER AND I CAN PUT ALL MY STUFF IN IT AND SHIP IT BACK TO HIM.

I'M NOT DOING THAT.

UH, BUT UH, I HAVE DONE IT ALL I CHECKED.

DID YOU WANT YOU TO TALK ABOUT THIS VIDEO POPPED UP AND IT WAS ABOUT ALL THIS FABRIC THAT IS SENT TO, UH, GHANA TO GHANA.

AND, UM, THEY GET BOATLOADS, LITERALLY BOATLOADS.

AND THIS, THESE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DONATED CLOTHES, AND THEN THERE ARE RAGPICKERS OR CLOTHES PICKERS AND THEY GET IT AND THEN GO OUT INTO THE AREA AND SELL IT.

AND THEY TALKED ABOUT HOW A LOT OF IT, THEY CAN'T USE.

IT'S JUST TRASH.

AND THIS ONE, ONE LITTLE MAN SAID HE PAID $125 FOR THIS BUNDLE OF CLOTHES.

AND HE ONLY HAD GOT FIVE THAT HE COULD RESELL AND THEY SOLD THEM FOR $3.

SO HE DIDN'T MAKE MUCH MONEY OFF OF THAT BACK.

THERE ARE MOUNTAINS, MOUNTAINS OF THAT, BUT I, I'M NOT GOOD AT DOING STUFF ON THE COMPUTER.

I MEAN, I CAN TYPE, AND I CAN DO THAT.

OR AS MY BROTHER SAYS, I USE IT FOR A VERY EXPENSIVE WORD TYPEWRITER.

BUT, UH, I CALLED ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS AND I, WHO DOES THIS.

AND I SAID, WOULD YOU HELP ME SEND THIS, GET THIS LINK AND SEND IT TO URIEL.

AND HE SAID, I LIKE THOSE PEOPLE IN GHANA.

AND I SAID, OH REALLY? SO HOW MANY PEOPLE IN GOD UP, YOU KNOW, MAN KIND OF SMART APP, HE WAS, HE'S MADE MISSION TRIPS TO GHANA.

AND WE JUST HAD THIS NURSES TALK ABOUT THE PEOPLE HE'S MET, BUT HE DID HELP ME SEND IT.

AND IT IS INTERESTING.

IT'S YEAH.

IF YOU GUYS HAVEN'T SEEN IT, YOU GOT TO WATCH IT.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU SENT IT TO EVERYONE.

BASICALLY, MOST OF US HERE IN THE U S WE THINK WE'RE DOING THE RIGHT THING BY RECYCLING ALL THESE FABRICS.

AND I THINK ONLY LIKE 15% OF WHAT THEY GET IS WHAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY REUSE.

SO THE REST OF IT GUESS WHERE IT GOES.

SO WE'RE BASICALLY SENDING OUR TRASH, BUT A LOT OF US WERE THINKING WE'RE DOING THE RIGHT THING BECAUSE THERE'S COMPANIES HERE TELLING US THAT IT'S BEING RECYCLED.

IT IS NOT CYCLING.

YES.

YEAH.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT COULD BE MADE? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT COULD BE MADE WITH JUST RAGS YOU GET, I MEAN, SO KEEP THAT IN MIND.

YOU GOT TO WATCH THAT VIDEO BECAUSE WHEN HE GETS TO THE POOR AT ONE OF THE POOREST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD AND THEY CAN'T FIND USE FOR IT, I MEAN, THERE'S NO USE FOR IT.

THE HANDS IT'S, UH, THEY, THEY, THEY LOOK AT EVERY OPTION, BUT THERE THERE'S NO USE FOR YOU IS GOING TO COST MORE TO TRY TO RECYCLE THOSE.

SO, AND YOU KNOW, BOB CAN TELL YOU AS A BUSINESS OWNER, YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU GOT TO MAKE A PROFIT.

MAYBE THE NAVY HAS IDEAS.

YEAH.

MAYBE THEY CAN DO SOMETHING WITH ALL THIS FABRIC THAT I'M TRYING TO RECYCLE.

I HAVE, I CALL UP, YOU KNOW, THE GOODWILL, I'VE CALLED ALL THESE DIFFERENT GROUPS.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT? AND JUST PUT IT IN TRASH.

SO THAT'S WHERE IT GOES.

WELL, A LOT OF IT IS WITH POLYESTERS, NOT ALL LEVEL, BUT ANYWAY, I AM INTO THAT SIDE OF RECYCLING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR GOAL OR, UM, A MOB CALIFORNIA'S PASSING LAW AND PLASTICS.

NOW THAT, UH, IF YOU'RE EXPORTING, THEY HAVE TO HAVE, I BELIEVE SOMEBODY PAYING A CERTAIN AMOUNT ON IT OR YOU'RE DUMPING.

SO IF THEY'RE DUMB, IF THEY'RE EXPORTING PLASTICS, THEY HAVE TO BE EXPORTING IT TO A COMPANY WHO'S SHOWING WHAT THEY'RE USING IT FOR.

OTHERWISE IT'S DONE.

AND I'M SURE A LOT OF OTHER RECYCLING THAT THIS MORNING.

YEAH.

YEAH.

IT'S JUST ACCOUNTABILITY.

GOOD.

CALIFORNIA IS ONE OF THE STATES THAT'S BEING VERY PROACTIVE ABOUT.

OH, IT SHOULDN'T BE, THEY'RE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING, WHICH DOES NOT WORK.

IT'S A NICE, GOOD IDEA.

IT JUST SOUNDS GOOD.

IT LOOKS GOOD ON PAPER.

IT LOOKS LIKE HOW MANY CAN THAT? ALL RIGHT.

WHAT DO WE HAVE NEXT? I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

HAS ANYBODY EVER DONE THE RAIN BARREL? USE THE RAIN BARREL.

I SIDED IN THE PICTURE.

[00:45:05]

I HAVE A SIDE HUSTLE.

WHEN I CONVERT 55 GALLON PICKLED DRUMS TO CUSTOM RAIN BARRELS AND MAKE THEM ANY WAY YOU WANT.

IF YOU'VE GOT A LOGO COMPANY LOGO, I CAN POP IT ON THERE.

THE MONEY IS IN SPORTS MARKETING.

SO IF YOU LIKE, I'VE GOT A DALLAS COWBOY, ONE THAT I TAKE TO FOOTBALL GAMES WITH ME, TEXAS LONGHORNS, ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS.

I MAKE THEM ANYWAY.

YOU WANT TO MAKE THEM MISS? BETTY'S SEEN THEM.

I MEAN, CAROL HAS GOT SIX AND WE STILL HAVE OUR KEEP GOING AND BEAUTIFUL PLANE.

OR DID YOU PUT CAT DALLAS COWBOYS OVER? I THINK I GAVE THAT TO PAULA OR SOLD IT OR SOMETHING.

ARE THEY REALLY? YEAH, DON'T THE PRE-ORDER FOR THEM.

THERE'S 79.

REALLY GOT THEM ON OUR WEBSITE.

NOW IT'S GOT OVER 55.

COOL.

WELL, IT'S COMPARABLE TO THE PRICES HERE.

UM, I WILL SAY THAT THE QUALITY OF MINE ARE GOING TO BE A LOT HIGHER.

HERE'S WHY, BECAUSE I USE FOUR 50 PSI AQUARIUM BULKHEADS, AND THE THREE QUARTER INCH OUTFLOW, PBC SPIGOTS.

SO MOSTLY WHAT YOU GET ARE THE HALF, HALF INCH SPIGOTS AND YOU CAN PUT A P WE'LL STOP THE PLUG UP IN THOSE.

SO, UH, A SAND SHAKE, SHAKE FROM YOUR ROOF, PLUGS THOSE THINGS UP.

I KNOW, CAUSE I'VE GOT TWO TO 'EM IN THE BACK.

ONE OF THEM DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE THE SPIGOT IS SO SMALL.

THE APERTURE IS SO SMALL THAT IT GETS PLUGGED UP.

SO I USED A BIG WIDE OPEN ONES.

ALSO USE THE HALF TURN VALVES AND YOU KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE.

SO THOSE I'VE GOT A VARIETY OF THEM, BUT I'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

I SOLD 44 THE FIRST YEAR I DID IT.

AND IT WAS FUNNY.

THE GUY WHO SELLS ME, THE PICKLE DRUM SAYS, YOU KNOW, WE'RE, WE'RE ONTO SOMETHING HERE.

HE SAYS, HOW FAST CAN WE MANUFACTURE THESE? AND I LAUGHED.

AND I SAID, YOU KNOW, WE IT'S JUST ME, RIGHT? KENNETH, YOU GOING TO TELL THEM THAT THE PEOPLE AND KEEP DARLING BEAUTIFUL, HELPED YOU WITH YOUR FIRST.

THEY HELPED ME WITH MY FIRST ORDER YESTERDAY.

AND I AT THE, AT THE, UH, NOT THE SUMMIT, THE, UM, EXPO I WOULD SHOW UP AND DO RAIN BARREL, SHOW PEOPLE HOW TO DO IT.

AND YOU KNOW, I'D HAVE THE MAYOR OR THE COUNCILMAN COMING IN AND DRILL HOLES IN IT AND SHOW THEM HOW TO PUT THIS BIGOTS AND PUT THE, UM, THE BULKHEADS IN AND ALL THAT.

AND IT WAS A KIND OF A COOL DEAL.

WE HAD A LOT OF, I MEAN, THE PLACE WAS ALWAYS PACKED FOR DEMONSTRATIONS AND STUFF.

SO WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION.

YEAH.

MINE ARE TYPICALLY A HUNDRED BUCKS TO 150, DEPENDING ON HOW.

AND, BUT LIKE THAT KEEP, UH, THAT DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS.

SEE THAT'S THREE COLOR AND GOT, UH, UH, LETTERING ON IT.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S A STENCIL, IT'S NOT STENCIL, IT'S A WRAP.

SO THOSE WERE EXPENSIVE.

THAT'S LIKE 150 BUCKS BECAUSE IF YOU REALIZE WHAT IT, WHAT IT TAKES TO GO IN AND DO A THREE COLOR ON SOMETHING, IT'S REAL HARD TO KEEP IT FROM RUNNING.

BUT YEAH, IF YOU WANT ONE MADE, LET ME KNOW, TELL ME WHAT YOU WANTED.

I DO AT CUSTOMER HAS BEEN DOING THAT FOR YEARS.

YOU'RE THE RAIN BARROW EXPERT, KIND OF, I AM KEN, DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER COMMUNITY? WE DO.

NANCY TOOK THE LIBERTY OF, UH, EXPLAINING SOME OF THE STUFF FOR ME, BUT YOU KNOW, THE PLANO AND, AND, UH, GARLAND HAVE PARTNERED WITH, UH, THIS NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY, UM, KIND OF, UH, NEIGHBORS CONNECT TO SERIES.

AND THERE'S ONE COMING UP THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD.

UH, IT'S A ZOOM IT'S CALLED NEIGHBORHOOD NEIGHBORS CONNECT ROUND TABLE SERIES.

THIS ONE'S CREATING INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES.

SO ROUND TABLE ON DIVERSITY IN COMMUNITIES AND CHALLENGES WITH DIVERSITY AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

AND THAT IS ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD, FROM SIX TO SEVEN 30, IT'S ACTUALLY SPONSORED BY THE, UH, PLANO NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY ORGANIZATION.

BUT THAT PARTNERS WITH GARLANDS ALSO, UH, SEPTEMBER 28TH IS NATIONAL GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY.

IT'S KINDA LIKE SHOW SOME LOVE.

IT'S KIND OF A PRECURSOR TO A NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, WHICH IS SA, UH, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH, UH, HERE IN TEXAS.

I DON'T, THEY NORMALLY DO IT IN AUGUST, EVERYWHERE ELSE, MS. BETTY, THAN THEY USED TO.

AND THEN WE MOVED IT.

IT WAS SO HOT.

YOU CAN SURVIVE IN AUGUST.

YES.

YEAH.

BUT SO THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5TH, UH, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH IS NATIONAL LABOR NIGHTS OUT NEIGHBORS NIGHT OUT AND IT'S A COMMUNITY BUILDING TYPE DEAL.

AND IT'S, UH, RECENTLY BECOME MORE OF A POLICE AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP BECAUSE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS REALLY STEPPED UP AND WANTING TO MAKE THEMSELVES MORE INTERMESHED INTO THE COMMUNITIES AS, AS A PARTNER, RATHER THAN SEEN AS AN OUTSIDER COMING IN TO ENFORCE LAW AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

UM, ALSO S UH, SEPTEMBER 28TH

[00:50:01]

IS THE GARLAND BOARD AND VOLUNTEER FAIR FROM SIX TO EIGHT AT THE ATRIUM.

NOW THAT IS SCHEDULED TO BE ALIVE EVENT, CORRECT.

STILL MISS BETTY.

AND SO WE USUALLY HAVE A BOOTH THERE AND IT'S FREE THIS YEAR AND IT IS FREE.

AND MS. BETTY, I WAS GOING TO SHOW YOU, I'M ALWAYS IN THIS GIG OF RECYCLING AND REUSING EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE REUSED.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I'M GOING TO PRESENT THIS YEAR AT OUR, AT OUR BOOTH, THAT IS A SEVEN FOOT LONG LIGHT THAT YOU COULD, THAT'S A CORK LIGHT, AND YOU CAN STICK THEM IN BOTTLES AND MAKE A NICE NIGHTLIGHT OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

THAT THE THOUGHT CAME TO ME, SITTING AT A BAR ONE NIGHT AND I REALIZED HOW MANY BOTTLES? WELL, I WITNESSED THEM THROWING AWAY SEVERAL, SEVERAL BOTTLES.

THEY SCORE THEM, THROW THEM IN THE TRASH AND THEY BREAK AND THEY GO INTO LANDFILL.

WHAT IF YOU COULD USE THOSE BOTTLES FOR SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE DECORATIVE, AND YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO THROW IT IN THE LANDFILL.

THOSE THINGS TAKES THOSE THINGS.

TAKE REUSABLE BATTERIES, ONE OF THOSE LAST MONTHS, UH, AND THERE'S, THERE'S SEVEN FEET LONG.

SO YOU STRETCH IT OUT AND JUST CALL AROUND ON A BOTTLE.

I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT A BOTTLE TO SHOW YOU GUYS, BUT I'VE GOT LIKE 30 OF THEM AT HOME.

I SAVED INTERESTING, COOL LOOKING BOTTLES.

AND I GO TO THRIFT STORES AND FIND OLD APOTHECARY BOTTLES AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

STICK A LIGHT IN THEM, GIVE THEM AWAY TO PEOPLE AS GIFTS AND STUFF.

AND THEY LOVE THEM.

THEY'VE GOT THEM IN ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT COLORS, PURPLE ORANGE, BLUE, RED, GREEN, WHATEVER COLOR.

AND SO I'M GOING TO BRING SOME FOR THE, FOR THE VOLUNTEER BOOTH, IN ADDITION TO ONE OF MY RAIN BARRELS, BECAUSE THE WHOLE PURPOSE IS RECYCLING.

ANYTHING THAT LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT BE JUMPED AND SOMEBODY FIGURED OUT HOW TO USE FABRIC.

THAT'S NOT PART OF MY GEAR, BUT I WILL, I WILL.

I'M GOOD AT IT.

MAYBE WE CAN MAKE BIRDS NEST SATURDAYS, OR IT CAN MAKE CANDLES.

WIX.

YEAH.

YEAH.

OKAY.

OH, ALSO, UH, WHAT ELSE I GOT THE, AS NANCY SAID, OCTOBER THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28TH IS THE GARLAND NEIGHBORHOOD AWARDS, APPLICATIONS, NOMINEES.

UM, AND SHE COVERED MOST OF THAT.

AND THOSE WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE NOVEMBER 4TH PRE SUMMIT MIXER.

AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT IS, UH, NINE AND 12 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, THIS YEAR.

AND RAUL AT THAT IS, YEAH, I NOTICED THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LOCATION, SO IT MUST BE VIRTUAL, VIRTUAL AND RELEVANT, VIRTUALLY RELEVANT.

OKAY.

UM, THAT IS ALL I HAVE.

AWESOME.

WHAT DID YOU SAY WAS ON SEPTEMBER 23RD? SEPTEMBER 23RD IS THE, UH, IT'S.

OH, IT'S ALSO THE, UH, DEADLINE FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY GRANT APPLICATIONS.

AND IT'S ALSO THAT THE ZOOM, THE PLANOS ZOOM ON NEIGHBORS CONNECT ROUND TABLE SERIES, PARTNERSHIP, DISTRICT THREE, UM, TRUED, UH, ED MOORE COUNCILMAN FOR DISTRICT THREE IS HAVING A TOWN HALL MEETING AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY ON, UH, BROADWAY THAT NIGHT.

SO IF ANYBODY'S AVAILABLE, IF, IF WE DIDN'T HAVE SIX OTHER THINGS GOING ON AT THE SAME NIGHT, BUT THAT'S AT SEVEN O'CLOCK AS WELL.

AND, UM, HE'S ASKED BOB CAUSE YOU'RE IN HIS DISTRICT, AREN'T YOU? YEAH.

SO, UH, WILL YOU BE THERE? I THINK SO.

I'M GOING TO TRY TO BE THERE, BUT THAT'S MY HOA TO BE THERE, BUT WE HAVE A KETTLE CORN EVENTS, LIKE STARTING SEPTEMBER 16TH.

WE'RE BOOKED EVERY WEEKEND UNTIL JANUARY.

I GOT THE GUYS THERE.

NO, THEY DIDN'T INVITE US THIS YEAR.

WHEN'S THAT? THE 23RD TOO.

IT'S A WEEKEND.

YEAH.

OCTOBER 28TH, 29TH OF SEPTEMBER.

IS THAT A SATURDAY? SEE WHERE I AM.

I'M SOMEWHERE.

NO, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH TO TUESDAY.

OKAY.

SO SEPTEMBER 26TH, THIRD, TWO WEEKS FROM NOW.

NO, IT'S GOTTA BE SATURDAY 25TH.

SORRY.

I MET THE SHERMAN CELTIC FESTIVAL, WHICH IF YOU'D LIKE TO THROW AXES, WEAR A DRESS AND THROW IT RIGHT.

SO, ALL RIGHT.

UH, COMMUNITY INITIATIVES, UH, TO, TO, TO FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, I THINK FULL OF ANNOUNCEMENTS.

OKAY.

NUMBER ONE.

I WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU GUYS TO ASK RODRIGUEZ.

HE IS OUR NEW ADMINISTRATOR FOR THE DEPARTMENT.

SO OS MOST OF YOU GUYS MET HIM.

HE GAVE US A PRESENTATION.

HE USED TO BE WITH CODE COMPLIANCE.

HE WAS THE CODE COMPLIANCE MANAGER, BUT THAT KNEE WASN'T WITH US WHEN, WHEN HE HAD THE PRESENCE.

SO CAN YOU, CAN YOU GIVE US JUST A BRIEF INTRODUCTION? AND SO I'VE BEEN WITH THE CITY FOR, UH, 18 YEARS, UH, ALL WITH CODE.

UM, I'VE WORKED WITH, UH,

[00:55:01]

MS. ROBERTS ON SEVERAL THINGS OVER THE YEARS, GIVING HER NUMBERS AND DATA AND, AND HAVE OFTEN KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL.

UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CODE, UH, THAT WAS REAL PROUD OF, AND I'M STILL PROUD OF, I STILL DO IT IS OUR CODE CARES PROGRAM WHERE WE KIND OF COORDINATE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP SINGERS WITH NO TRIMMING OF TREES, HOUSE PAIN, AND ET CETERA, ET CETERA.

SO THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THAT'S KIND OF, THERE'S A ONE THING, A LEGACY, IF YOU WILL, THAT CODE THAT I KIND OF LEFT OR I'M LEAVING IS THAT PROGRAM RIGHT THERE.

IT'S A BROKEN, IT'S BROKEN THAT WE'RE REAL PROUD OF.

UM, BUT YOU KNOW, I'M LIKE, I'M EXCITED TO BE WORKING WITH YOU REAL HERE.

UH, I'VE KNOWN YOUR ROLE FOR A YEAR AND ACTUALLY YOU WILL ACTUALLY WORK FOR ME WHEN I WAS AT CODE, UH, FOR A FEW YEARS.

SO, UM, IT WAS KIND OF COMING AROUND A LITTLE BIT, UH, BUT HE'S A GOOD GUY.

LET'S COME AROUND A LITTLE BIT, BUT I'M EXCITED TO WORK, UH, FOR SANITATION.

AND I'M EXCITED FOR THE, UH, WORK WITH YOU GUYS.

AND I'M EXCITED WHERE, UH, SANITATION IS GOING TO GO OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

AND THE SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT IS CALEB.

IT'S ACTUALLY LEAVING US.

HE MIGHT BE, THIS MIGHT BE HIS LAST MEETING WITH US.

YES.

SO, UH, BOB, THERE'S A REALLY GOOD CHANCE THAT NEXT MONTH WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO VOTE FOR A NEW VICE CHAIR.

ACTUALLY, THE ELECTION IS IN OCTOBER EVERY, OH, IT IS OCTOBER THE NEXT MONTH.

IT'S OCTOBER.

YEAH.

WE GET A CHAIR.

SO YOU GET TO, SO YOU GUYS SHOULD BE MEETING THE NEW MEMBER AS WELL AND NEXT MONTH, AND WE MIGHT HAVE SOME OTHER PEOPLE HERE TO LOOK AT THAT EMPTY SPOT.

YEAH.

UH, THE ONLY, THE ONLY, UM, I'VE ONLY GOT ONE APPLICATION, WHICH IS GOING TO BE THE PERSON THAT'S REPLACING KAYLA.

I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANYTHING FOR A REBA AND SHE'S STILL LISTED AS A CHAIR, I BELIEVE ON THE WEBSITE.

YEAH.

WE NEED TO CHANGE.

THAT MIGHT AS WELL WAIT UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER, I'M FEELING SHORT LIVED ANYWAY.

SO, UM, I HAVE, UH, A FUTURE AGENDA ITEM.

IF ANYBODY ELSE DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING AND ODDLY ENOUGH, OZ IS HERE.

SO HE MAYBE KNOW THE ANSWER, BUT AS YOU DRIVE THROUGH SOME OF THE MORE INDUSTRIAL AREAS AT GARLAND, YOU WILL NOTICE CAR SHOPS THAT HAVE SO MANY CARS ON THEIR PROPERTY THAT THEY'RE OUT IN THE STREET IN FRONT OF IT.

AND OVER THE SIDEWALKS AND THE CURVES.

AND SURELY THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING THAT THE CITY COULD DO TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF DEAD VEHICLES OR UNREGISTERED VEHICLES.

THESE PEOPLE MOVE AROUND EVERY STINKING DAY IS THERE, THERE IS, UM, EVERY, EVERY COMMERCIAL PROPERTY IN THE CITY CAR GARLAND HAS TO HAVE A PARKING PLAN, A SITE PLAN THAT LISTS, UH, WHERE THE VEHICLES CAN PARK.

AND IT'S PRETTY SPECIFIC BASED ON THE BUILD BUILDING SIZE.

NOW, SOME OF THE OLDER PROPERTIES, AND THERE'S A LOT OF OLDER PROPERTIES THAT ARE BEING USED FOR AUTO AUTO AUTO RELATED BUSINESSES.

THEY ARE EXEMPT FROM THAT, BUT A NEWER PROPERTY BY NEWER, I SAY 1995 AND CURRENT, I THINK ANYTHING IN THAT RANGE SHOULD HAVE A PARKING PLAN FILED WITH THE CITY PART OF THEIR CEO.

AND THEY HAVE TO ADHERE TO THAT PARKING PLAN.

AND THEY SPECIFICALLY MARK THE SPACE THAT THEY'RE ALLOWED TO BE IN.

AND THEN THE OWNERS OF THE BUSINESSES HAVE TO KEEP THOSE VEHICLES IN THOSE SPACES.

THEY CAN'T BE IN FIRE LANES.

IT CAN'T BE OVER THE CURB.

THEY CAN'T JUST PACK THEM IN, UM, THOSE SIMPLE DAYS, BUT THEY'RE AN OLDER NEIGHBORHOOD.

SO YEAH.

UM, THEY, THEY MAY BE ALLOWED TO, BUT IF THERE'S ANY, ANYTHING LIKE FROM 95 AND ABOVE THAT, THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO ADHERE TO THEIR, THEIR PARKING PLAN BECAUSE YOU WONDER HOW YOU CAN GO PAST FIRESTONE OR SOME OF THE BIGGER PLACES.

AND THERE'S JUST NOT A BIG JUNK PILE UP IN FRONT, BUT WELL, IT'S REALLY A SAFETY DEAL BECAUSE IF THE BUILDING WAS TO CATCH ON FIRE, THEY, THEY CAN'T GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO FIGHT THAT FIRE.

TH THOSE CODE ENFORCE THAT OR BUILDING THE COMMERCIAL DIVISION OF HORSES, THAT CODE.

YEAH.

AND WE DID THAT WHEN I WAS IN CODE, I WAS IN THE COMMERCIAL DIVISION TOO.

WE DID THAT QUITE A BIT AND IT'S JUST KIND OF A CAT AND MOUSE THING.

I SAID, WE'LL GO, WE'LL GO ONSITE.

AND WE'LL, WE'LL WE'LL IF SHE NOTICE YOU GUYS HAVE ALL THESE PARKING SPACES, YOU GOTTA MAKE SURE THAT A VEHICLE IS IN EACH ONE OF THESE SPACES AND THEY WOULD DO IT FOR, YOU KNOW, A MONTH OR TWO.

AND THEY'D KIND OF GO BACK.

YOU'D KIND OF BE ON THEM AGAIN AND KIND OF GO BACK.

WE BROKE, WE'VE WRITTEN SEVERAL TICKETS FOR THAT OVER THE YEARS, BUT IT'S KIND OF ONE OF THOSE ORDINANCES.

IT'S, IT'S, YOU'D HAVE TO CONSTANTLY BE ON THEM, YOU KNOW? CAUSE THEY, THEY JUST TRANSFER SO OFTEN AT THESE AUTO LOTS.

YEAH.

THERE THERE'S SOME REAL CRAZY ONES.

AND THE OLDER NEIGHBORHOODS, I SAW ONE WHERE NOT ONLY WERE THEY ON THE SIDEWALK, BUT THEY WERE HANGING OVER THE CURB, PROBABLY A FOOT BUMPERS ALL THE WAY DOWN.

SO WE HAD TO SWERVE AROUND THEM.

AND REGARDLESS OF THE AGE, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN'T PARK OVER THE SIDEWALK.

YOU CAN'T GO OVER THE CURB THAT THAT CAN BE ENFORCED AT ANY TIME.

OUR MARSHALS ARE ACTUALLY DOING THAT PART OF THE PARKING ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM THAT YOU GUYS GOT UP, UH, YOU KNOW ABOUT.

YEAH.

WASN'T THAT SOMETHING ABOUT THE BIG TRUCKS TO EVEN

[01:00:01]

THE BIG TRUCKS.

I DROVE A BIG TRUCK FOR A LONG TIME.

IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND PLACE.

YEAH.

PARK YOUR TRUCK AND GO HOME EVEN FOR DAY.

THAT IS A, THAT IS A VERY POPULAR BUSINESS IN GARLAND.

HE SAYS A LOT OF THESE, UH, LAWS WERE BEING TURNED INTO COMMERCIAL PARKING LOTS.

YES.

WE'RE UH, TRUCKERS WILL PAY A MONTHLY FEE TO KEEP THEIR ABSOLUTELY.

BUT THERE'S A LOT OF THEM ON THE STREETS TO, YOU KNOW, ALTHOUGH, YOU KNOW, ALL THOSE ARE ILLEGAL.

THEY CAN'T, THEY CAN'T BE THERE IN THE MARSHALS ARE THE ONES THAT ARE ENFORCED.

BUT IF YOU'VE GOT A SET OF ADDRESS OR JUST A JOURNAL AREA, LET ME KNOW AND I CAN, I WILL, I CAN GIVE HIM MY CODE BUDDIES AND I WILL.

DO YOU
