NOW, THE TEXAS GOLD MEDAL AWARD IS MODELED AFTER THE NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS ASSOCIATION GOLD MEDAL AWARD. THE AWARD HONORS DEPARTMENTS FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE FIELD OF RECREATION AND PARK MANAGEMENT OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY A TESTAMENT TO ALL THE HARD [00:10:03] WORK AND EFFORT YOU SEE FROM THE FOLKS UP HERE AND ALL OF OUR PARK STAFF ACROSS THE CITY. AND THAT ALSO INCLUDES RECREATION, THAT INCLUDES PARKS, THAT INCLUDES CULTURAL ARTS, CONVENTION VISITORS BUREAU, DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, SPECIAL EVENTS, HERITAGE MUSEUM, DOWNTOWN AND ADMINISTRATION. SO THIS A VERY LARGE--. IT IS A VERY LARGE GROUP HERE IN THE CITY AND THEY'RE DOING FANTASTIC WORK. WE HAVE A VERY LARGE, VERY DIVERSE PARKS AND RECREATION SYSTEM HERE IN GARLAND AND THANKS TO THE VOTERS FOR THE 2019 BOND APPROVAL, WE HAVE A LOT OF FUNDING THAT WE ARE PUTTING BACK INTO OUR PARKS SYSTEM AND MAKING IT EVEN BETTER, AND WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED ON PARKS. AND SO I CAN IMAGINE BY THE TIME WE FINISH UPDATING ALL THE PLAYGROUNDS, THE REC CENTERS, THE POOLS, THE SPLASH PADS, THE SPORTS FIELDS, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE AWARDS THAT THIS GROUP WILL BRING IN. SO ANDY, I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN LIFT THIS THING OR NOT. YEAH, LIFT WITH YOUR LEGS. [LAUGHTER] YOU GOT IT. YES, SIR. THANK YOU, SIR. YOU KNOW, I THINK WHAT'S REALLY GREAT ABOUT THIS HONOR IS THAT IT TRULY IS A TEAM AWARD IN THE BIGGEST SENSE. SO CLEARLY, THE RESIDENTS SPOKE ABOUT WHAT THEY EXPECTED OUT OF THEIR PARKS AND RECREATION INFRASTRUCTURE [INAUDIBLE] A GREAT TESTAMENT TO THE POLITICAL COURAGE OF THE CITY COUNCIL. AND IT'S AN INCREDIBLE TESTAMENT TO THE TEAM, AND IT'S A MUCH BIGGER TEAM, BUT I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY THAT'S BEEN HERE AND IT'S A GREAT HONOR TO SERVE WITH THEM. IT'S JUST AN INCREDIBLE TEAM. THEY WORK VERY HARD, THEY WANT TO DO ALL THE RIGHT THINGS FOR THE CITIZENS, AND WHAT'S ALSO INTERESTING THAT I THINK IN THIS AWARD THAT YOU DON'T HEAR A LOT ABOUT IS ALL THE DEPARTMENTS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS.
