YOU READY TO GET STARTED?

[00:00:01]

YES.

OKAY.

[Library Board on May 9, 2022.]

SO I CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND THE FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS THE APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM MARCH 7TH, WHICH YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW.

YOU'VE GOT THEM IN FRONT OF YOU.

I'LL GIVE YOU A MOMENT TO LOOK THOSE OVER MADAM CHAIR.

I MOVE FOR APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES AS PRINTED.

I WILL SECOND THE MOTION.

OKAY.

HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE, AYE.

ANY OPPOSED? THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED AS PRESENTED NEXT.

WE HAVE ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION AND THE FIRST ITEM IS INTRODUCTION OF NEWLY HIRED AND PROMOTED STAFF.

YEAH.

SO THIS IS THE BEST PART OF THE AGENDA TONIGHT.

ACTUALLY, I SHOULDN'T SAY THAT THERE'S A LOT OF REALLY GREAT PARTS, BUT I KNOW WE HAVE THREE NEW EXCEPTIONAL HIRES, UH, IN PROMOTIONS, UM, OVER HERE.

SO WE HAVE DEANNA MCCAULEY, WHO IS OUR NEW DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE TO, UH, YOU'LL SEE DEANNA SHE'S IN OUR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE.

SHE STARTED ABOUT SIX WEEKS AGO.

UM, AND I THINK WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE HER IN THE ADMIN OFFICE.

SHE SMILES EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT YOU SEE HER.

SO IT'S, IT'S A BREATH OF FRESH AIR.

NOT THAT YOUR BEAUTIFUL SMILE.

KATHLEEN'S NOT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR, BUT I KNOW I'M ON A ROLL, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE DEANNA NEXT.

WE HAVE HEATHER COLSON WHO IS OUR NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY BRANCH MANAGER.

AND SHE'S BEEN WITH THE CITY FOR ALMOST 21 YEARS, ALMOST 21 YEARS.

UH, SHE WAS A CHILDREN, SHE'S A CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN, UM, SELECTOR.

UM, AND THEN SHE WAS THE BRANCH MANAGER OF THE SOUTH GARLAND BRANCH LIBRARY AND PROMOTED TO THE CENTRAL LIBRARY MANAGER.

FABULOUS.

CONGRATULATIONS NEXT.

UM, WE HAVE ANDREA LEON, WHO IS OUR NEW CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN AT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY AND SHE'S ALSO A FAMILIAR FACE SHE'S, UM, UH, PROMOTION OR INTERNAL PROMOTION.

SHE WAS OUR, UM, STARTED OUT, I THINK IN CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT THEN BECAME, UM, OUR, UH, BILINGUAL LIBRARY ASSISTANT AND HAS NOW BEEN PROMOTED TO THE CHILDREN'S LIBRARY AND SHE OFFERS ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT PROGRAMS, BILINGUAL PROGRAMS, UM, AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES FOR CENTRAL.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE ALL THREE, A PART OF OUR GARLAND LIBRARY TEAM.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US TONIGHT.

ALL RIGHT.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN BOND PROGRAM UPDATES.

YES.

AND I'M GOING TO TRY SEE IF THIS WORKS.

WE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A TECHNICAL ISSUE EARLIER, SO THAT GOES OKAY.

UM, CENTRAL LIBRARY, I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU, UM, WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE CONCEPT FOR THE CENTRAL LIBRARY FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW, AND I'VE SHARED WITH YOU SOME CONCEPTS OF THE INTERIOR, HOW REMOVING ALL OF ADULT SERVICES UPSTAIRS, AND THEN THE CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT WILL BE MOVED DOWNSTAIRS AND COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED FOR A NEW SPACE FOR CHILDREN TODAY.

I WANT TO SHOW YOU THREE CONCEPTS THAT WE'VE BEEN REALLY WORKING ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING, AND I THINK I'VE SHARED SOME LANDSCAPING, SOME OVERALL HIGH-LEVEL, UM, IMAGES OF WHAT THE PROPOSED CHANGES ARE TO LOOK LIKE, BUT WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THE BUILDING ITSELF AND TRYING TO, UH, INCORPORATE SOME SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR THE EXTERIOR, FOR WHERE THE NEW MAIN ENTRANCE IS GOING TO BE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE BUILDING AND KEEP, UH, A VERY IMPORTANT ENTRANCE.

AND, UM, WAY-FINDING ON THE SOUTHWEST CORNER THAT'S RIGHT OFF AUSTIN STREET.

SO PEOPLE, UM, KNOW THAT WE'RE THERE.

SO I DON'T THINK EVERYBODY'S TVS ARE ON TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF, UM, INSPIRATION.

THIS IS, UH, THE INSPIRATION BOARD THAT THE ARCHITECTS TOOK.

UM, PART OF THIS, THIS IS AN IMAGE THAT'S TAKEN AND FROM THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE, UM,

[00:05:01]

OF WHAT THEY'RE RE-IMAGING ARE GOING TO PUT, UH, THAT'S IN PIECES THERE, SORRY.

UM, THIS, IT WON'T SHOW ON THE SCREEN.

IT DOESN'T NO.

UM, THIS OF COURSE YOU RECOGNIZE IS THE FRONT OF THE, THE CENTRAL LIBRARY AND YOU CAN SEE IT'S VERY PLAIN, IT'S VERY BEIGE.

IT'S VERY FLAT AND WE WANT SOMETHING THAT ADDS SOME MORE COLOR, SOME MORE DIMENSION, SOMETHING THAT REALLY TRANSFORMS THIS BUILDING INTO SOMETHING MORE LIVELY, ENERGETIC, YOUTHFUL.

UM, AND THEN THESE ARE SOME OTHER WAYS THAT THE ARCHITECT WAS TRYING TO PROVIDE.

UM, SOME THAT KIND OF DID JUST THAT BY ADDING COLOR RESCAN, THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING, UM, ADD SOMETHING THAT'S WHIMSICAL AND FUN, ADD SOME MOVEMENT TO THE BUILDING THAT, UM, THEY TOOK FROM, UM, JUST TO REORDER REORIENT EVERYONE.

UM, THIS IS THE MAIN FLOOR, THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING.

THIS IS WHERE THE NEW MAIN ENTRANCE IS GOING TO BE OFF THE WEST.

AND THEN WE ARE ADDING A, UM, UH, PRESENCE ON THAT SOUTHWEST CORNER.

SO IF YOU'RE ON AUSTIN STREET, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE THAT THERE IS AN ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE YES, RIGHT.

THERE WAS A CONFERENCE RIGHT HERE.

UH, THE ARCHITECTS ARE ALSO GOING TO DO A SUN EXPOSURE STEADY TO SEE WITH THE ADDITION OF WINDOWS THAT ARE PROPOSED AROUND THE BUILDING, WHAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN, WHETHER IT'S, UM, FILM ON THE GLASS AND SORT OF SHADING WHAT NEEDS TO, TO HAPPEN AND THOSE SPACES.

SO THIS WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA.

THIS IS, UM, THE MAIN LEVEL OF THE LIBRARY.

I'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF TALKING TO THIS AFTERNOON, SO I'LL APOLOGIZE.

UM, THIS IS WHERE CURRENT ENTRANCE RIGHT HERE.

IF THE CURRENT ENTRANCE IS HERE, AUSTIN IS ALONG HERE AND OUR PARKING LOT IS IN THIS AREA.

THIS IS, UH, THAT SECONDARY ENTRANCE THAT'S OFF AUSTIN STREET.

AND OUR MAIN ENTRANCE IS THE ON HERE, UM, FROM THE WEST PARKING LOT, EVERYWHERE THAT YOU SEE THIS BLUE COLOR, THESE ARE WINDOWS THAT ARE BEING ADDED TO THE FACADE OF THE BUILDING AND IT'S BEING PUSHED OUT TO THE PORTICO.

SO WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO TRANSFORM THE BUILDING WHERE PATRONS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON INSIDE THE BUILDING AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE OUTSIDE FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING.

SO THIS PRESENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF THINGS TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE, UM, THE BUILDING AND ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND STEADY TO SOME KIND OF, UM, SEND MITIGATION.

SO CONCEPT NUMBER ONE.

AND, UM, I WILL SAY I'M NOT NECESSARILY LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER, BUT ANY FEEDBACK OR THOUGHTS THAT YOU HAVE ON ALL THREE CONCEPTS, PLEASE FEEL FREE CONCEPT.

NUMBER ONE IS, UM, THEY USE LOUVERS SAYING THAT, RIGHT.

UM, AND THESE AREAS, BRIGHTLY COLORED MULTICOLOR, LOUVERS, VERTICAL, UM, AND IT HELPS WITH SUN EXPOSURE ON THE INTERIOR OF THE ADDS, SOME DEPTH DIMENSION, SOME MOVEMENT.

UM, AGAIN, THANK YOU, UM, HIGHLIGHTED AND THOSE, THOSE VERY STRATEGIC PLACES THAT YOU SAW, WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO BE ADDING THE WINDOWS, TAKING AWAY THE BRICK, ADDING THE WINDOWS, UM, TO TRANSFORM THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING.

AND THIS IS FROM THAT SOUTHWEST CORNER FROM AUSTIN.

ANOTHER THING IS, THIS IS A PRIME LOCATION TO HAVE OUR BRANDING.

IT WON'T LOOK QUITE THAT DRAB.

WE WANT SOMETHING THAT IS, HAS MORE POSSESS THAN THAT DIFFERENT FONT, DIFFERENT COLOR, DIFFERENT FONTS, SOMETHING WITH SOME HEIGHTS, NOT NECESSARILY JUST PLAIN WHITE LETTERING ON A PAGE BUILDING.

AND AS I POINTED OUT, DO WE REALLY NEED GARLAND CENTRAL LIBRARY? HOPEFULLY THEY KNOW THEY'RE IN THERE IN GARLAND.

SO YOU WOULD JUST PUT CENTRAL LIBRARY OR WE DON'T KNOW, WE DON'T KNOW, BUT THAT WAS JUST A COMMENT THAT KAREN'S LIBRARY THERE.

[00:10:01]

UM, THIS IS THE, THE WEST LOT, UH, THE MAIN ENTRANCE FROM THE WEST SLOT PROVIDING SOME TYPE OF AWNING OR COVERAGE.

UM, IT DOESN'T PROVIDE THAT MUCH SHADE BECAUSE IT'S, UM, I THINK IT'S STILL THE, UH, THE LOUVERS, BUT IT WOULD PROVIDE SOME TYPE OF COVERAGE THERE.

THIS WOULD BE FROM THE MEETING ROOM, UM, OUTSIDE, OR I'M SORRY, INSIDE OUT.

UM, THE CARPET IS NOT GOING TO BE SOLID BLACK.

THAT'S JUST A PLACE HOLDER THAT YOU'RE IN.

THIS GIVES YOU ANOTHER IDEA FROM THE MAIN LOBBY, LOOKING OUT, YOU CAN SEE THE TREE GROVE OUT IN THE FRONT OF THE LIBRARY.

DUSK, HERE'S AN IMAGE FROM DUSK FROM THE WEST LOT.

AND THEN HERE'S ANOTHER IMAGE FROM, UM, AUSTIN STREET.

SO THAT'S OPTION NUMBER ONE, CONCEPT NUMBER ONE.

AND I, I SHOULD ASK, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE IS.

DO YOU, WOULD YOU LIKE TO PROVIDE ANY FEEDBACK PER CONCEPT OR WAIT AND SEE ALL THREE OF THEM AND THEN PROVIDE FEEDBACK AT THE END? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THREE, OKAY.

CONCEPT NUMBER TWO IS A PLAY ON CONCEPT NUMBER ONE, BUT AS THE ARCHITECT SAID, IT'S A MORE ORGANIC FEEL BECAUSE IT, IT DOES USE THE LOUVERS IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

SO THIS IS REALLY RE SKINNING, UM, A GOOD PORTION OF THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING IN THE LOUVERS, TAKE EVERYTHING FROM THE BOTTOM, ALL THE WAY UP TO THE TOP.

SO THIS COULD SHOOT SHOWING UP AGAIN.

IT'S BRIGHTLY COLORED, MULTICOLORED LOUVERS AROUND THE BUILDING, PROVIDES SOME, UM, SHADE FOR SUN EXPOSURE ON THE INTERIOR, BUT IT ALSO, YOU CAN SEE IT GOES ALL THE WAY UP TO THE, TO THE TOP OF THE BAND AROUND THE EXTERIOR OF THE LIBRARY AND HAS CUTOUTS IN IT THAT PROVIDES MOVEMENT VERY SIMILAR ON THE INTERIOR OF THE MEETING ROOM SPACE AND LOBBY.

AND IS IT A GIVEN THAT, UM, THE FLOORING FOR THE MEETING ROOM SPACES, CARPET JUST FOR SOUND, IS THAT THE, SO WE'VE, WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT DIFFERENT OPTIONS ON THE INTERIOR, UH, CARPET IS ONE OF THOSE OPTIONS, BUT THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT KIND OF, UH, LVT LIKE, UH, A TILE SURFACE THAT CAN BE MORE ACOUSTICALLY CONTROLLED.

UM, AND THERE ARE SOME, THE PROS AND CONS TO BOTH.

ONE OF THE PROS OF HAVING THAT, UM, LVT SURFACE IN THE MEETING SPACE IS IF THINGS GET MESSY, IF THERE'S ANY TYPE OF FOOD, IF THERE'S IT'S MUCH EASIER TO CLEAN UP THAT TYPE OF SURFACE THAN A CARPET, NO, IT DOESN'T STORE THE RIGHT.

HOPEFULLY ARE THESE LOUVERS MOVABLE OR STATIONARY THERE ABOUTS? I THINK THEY'RE EIGHT INCHES WIDE, SIX OR EIGHT INCHES WIDE, AND THEN WE WOULD BE SPACED OUT.

UM, I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MANY INCHES APART FROM ONE ANOTHER.

UM, AND SOME OF THEM MAY HAVE TO BE TURNED IN SUCH A WAY, DEPENDING ON WHAT THE SUN STUDY COMES BACK WITH.

THIS IS THE SAME CONCEPT IN THE EVENING FROM, YEAH.

YEAH.

SO WHAT'S THE, I MEAN, WHAT'S THE NEGATIVE OF DOING A HARD SURFACE FLOORING THEN AS OPPOSED TO CARPET SOUND OKAY.

ACOUSTICS, IF WE COULDN'T, THERE'S A, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THERE IS A TYPE OF LVT THAT HAS A, UM, IT'S NOT A CUSHION, BUT FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM, A CUSHIONING IN BETWEEN THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM LAYER THAT WILL ABSORB SOUND BETTER, BUT IT'S JUST NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS CARPET, NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS CARPET, THEY'RE GOING TO DO SOUND STUFF.

YEAH.

UM, THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT, THAT'S TRUE ANSWER TO THE, SORT OF THE COSTS OF CLEANING THE CARPET, AS OPPOSED TO HAVING A HARD SURFER SURFACE THAT IS EASIER TO CLEAN AND THAT SORT OF THING THEY WILL.

IT'S ALL PART OF THE CONVERSATION.

SO I SHOULD ALSO ADD WHEN WE'RE HAVING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ANY OF THESE, UM, OPTIONS INTO YOUR EXTERIOR.

[00:15:01]

THERE'S A, A LARGE TEAM FROM THE CITY THAT COMES TOGETHER TOO.

SO WE HAVE REPRESENTATION FROM THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT GROUP WHO WOULD BE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING THE FLOORING, AND THEY PROVIDE A LOT OF INPUT AND FEEDBACK AS TO WHAT THEIR PREFERENCES ARE AND WHAT THEIR CAPABILITIES ARE, UM, WITH DIFFERENT SURFACES, UM, LOUVERS LIGHTING, ALL OF THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, WHICH IS HELPFUL.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS, WE'LL BE BRINGING SOME SAMPLES AND THAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE FIRSTHAND, UM, THE DIFFERENT COLORS TYPES, UM, DO THE LOUVERS OPEN AND CLOSE THEY'RE STATIONARY.

THEY, THEY REMAIN JUST AS THEY ARE ON THE BUILDING.

AND THIS IS IT FROM AUSTIN AT NIGHT.

AND I GUESS THAT SORT OF EXPOSURE ON THE CORNER OF THEIR, OF THE CONCRETE IS A CONSISTENT STYLISTICALLY WITH THE CURVES LATER.

I MEAN, AESTHETICALLY LOOKS, I BELIEVE TO BE, BUT, UM, I'M NOT SURE WHY THEY DON'T JUST COMPLETELY COVER THE, UM, THE CONCRETE SIDING.

UM, PART OF THAT IS BUDGET CONCEPT.

NUMBER THREE IS THE INSPIRATION WAS TAKEN FROM, UM, SOME COLORED GLASS AND CRYSTALS, OR WAS, UH, AN ART PIECE THAT, UM, WE LOOKED AT THAT WE ALL GRAVITATED TOWARDS.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL ART PIECE THAT IT, UM, CAPTURED INCOMING LIGHT BEAUTIFULLY.

UM, SO THAT'S WHERE THIS INSPIRATION CAME FROM.

AND INSTEAD OF LOUVERS, IT'S USING THE WINDOWS THAT WOULD BE INSTALLED IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

SO THIS WOULD BE ADDING, UM, EITHER, UM, THE GLASS WOULD ALREADY HAVE THE PIGMENT IN IT, OR IT WOULD BE SOME TYPE OF FILM, UM, APPLIED DIRECTLY TO THE GLASS IN THE DIFFERENT GEOMETRIC SHAPE, IN DIFFERENT COLORS AROUND THE BUILDING.

SO THIS IS ONE OF THE, THE NEATER SLIDES TO ME, EXCUSE ME, THAT YOU CAN SEE THE LIGHT COMING INSIDE THE BUILDING FROM THE OUTSIDE, WITH THE, YOU KNOW, IT ALMOST HAS A, UH, STAIN GLASS APPEARANCE TO IT, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU STAND BACK AND LOOK IT AS A WHOLE FROM THE EXTERIOR AND HERE'S THE LOBBY AREA.

AND WERE THERE ANY VARIETIES OF THOSE GEOMETRIC SHAPES OR THOSE WERE JUST CHOSEN BECAUSE SORT OF A SIZE AND THEY WERE JUST CHOSEN BECAUSE OF SIZE AND EASE, BUT I WILL TELL YOU THAT WHICHEVER OF THE CONCEPTS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH IT WILL BE FURTHER DEVELOPED AND MAY END UP NOT LOOKING QUITE THE SAME OR ANYTHING LIKE WHAT'S CURRENTLY ON THE IMAGE HERE.

I THINK WE'VE HAD SOME QUESTIONS OF, DOES IT HAVE TO BE, DOES IT HAVE TO BE SUCH STRAIGHT LINES? COULD WE INTRODUCE CURVES INTO THAT? THE COLOR AND THE SHAPE, THE CHALLENGE OF THE BUILDING IS THAT IT IS SO RECTANGULAR AND STRAIGHT LINES AND SORT OF ALMOST INDUSTRIAL LOOKING VERY FLAT.

HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF THAT SORT OF, AND THAT JUST SORT OF CONTINUES THAT I WAS JUST SORT OF, WHEN CAN YOU SHOW THE PREVIOUS SLIDE WITH THE LAST CONCEPT BEFORE NOW? IT'S BEFORE THE, AT THE VERY BEGINNING, WHEN YOU WERE LOOKING AT THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER IMAGE OF THE GLASS THAT WAS THE MOTIVATION FOR, OH, AT THE VERY, I'M SORRY.

I THOUGHT YOU MEANT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CONCEPT NUMBER THREE.

YES.

SO IN PARTICULAR, YEAH, WHAT'S INTERESTING TO ME WAS THE PIECES, THE GLASS PIECES WERE SMALLER AND INSTEAD THEY CREATED LESS OF A, SORT OF A STRAIGHT, RECTANGULAR SHAPE.

AND THERE WERE, THERE WERE MORE MULTIPLE SMALLER PIECES.

I THINK THAT WOULD GIVE

[00:20:01]

A DIFFERENT LOOK THAN A RECTANGLE ARE BIG CHUNKS THAT ARE, UH, THE MARKET.

KAREN, WOULD YOU COMMENT AGAIN ON THE IMAGE AT THE UPPER LEFT TWO, YOU SAY THAT THAT IS, UM, SORT OF THE THEME FOR THE SQUARE FOR THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE.

YES.

SO PART OF WHAT THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE WILL HAVE ARE THESE, UM, LARGE, AND I THINK THEY'RE LIGHTS, BUT THEY WILL HAVE THAT PRISM, UM, GEOMETRIC, UH, ALMOST STAINED GLASS SPIRES.

YES.

UM, AND THOSE WILL BE INCORPORATED IN THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE DO IS KEEP THINGS LIKE THERE'S A NATURAL FLOW TO DOWNTOWN AND THEN TAKE SOME OF THAT SAME INSPIRATION AND BRING IT DOWN TO, UM, THE LIBRARY AND EVEN IN THE SPIRES, SORT OF THE PIECES ARE SMALLER.

AND THAT WAS WHAT I WAS THINKING OF.

THAT SORT OF BREAKS THINGS UP SMALLER PIECES.

IT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN THE, UH, THE ANIMAL.

RIGHT.

SEE THE, YEAH.

THAT ONE, YEAH.

THOSE PIECES ARE BIGGER.

AND I THINK AESTHETICALLY, IT LOOKS A LITTLE DIFFERENT WHEN THE PIECES ARE SMALLER.

IT SEEMS TO BREAK UP THE LARGER, HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL LINES WITHOUT HAVING TO CREATE CIRCLES.

RIGHT.

OR TH THE IMAGE AT THE LOWER RIGHT.

TO ME, IT LOOKS VERY THREE-DIMENSIONAL.

WHEREAS, WHEREAS WHEN YOU GOT TO THE CONCEPT WITH THE RENDERINGS, IT'S VERY TWO DIMENSIONAL.

YEAH.

AND I THINK THE SIZE OF THE PIECES CREATE THAT ANY ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK.

THIS HAS BEEN GREAT.

I MEAN, I THINK LAST CERTAINLY DOES SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER LIVERS, WHICH ARE STILL KIND OF INDUSTRIAL, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE COLORED LAST STEP, ADD AESTHETICALLY SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT MORE INTERESTING.

I SUSPECT IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE ACTUALLY.

UM, SO WE HAVE SOMEONE FROM CORE CONSTRUCTION THAT'S THERE AND HIS GUESTS IS THAT OPTION.

NUMBER TWO IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE BECAUSE OF THE, THE AMOUNT OF SCREENING THAT GOES AROUND THE BUILDING.

IT'S ALL GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE IN WHO KNOWS WHAT THE, THE BIDS WILL ACTUALLY BE WHEN IT GOES OUT TO BID.

UM, BUT COST IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT AND WHAT IS IT THAT WE CAN, WHERE CAN WE GET THE MOST BANG FOR OUR BUCK AND MAKE THE MOST IMPACT, UM, WITH THE BUDGET THAT WE HAVE, BUT YOU SHOWED THE FIRST ONE AGAIN.

SURE.

SOME OF THOSE.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

I FOUND, I FOUND THE SECOND OPTION TO BE A LITTLE OVERWHELMING.

UM, SOME OF THE EARLY PICTURES OF THE SECOND OPTION.

WELL, THE SECOND OPTION IS THE LIVER'S GOING ALL THE YES.

YES.

AND, AND I, I LIKED SOME OF THE EARLY, EARLIER IMAGES THAT WE SAW WITH OPTION TWO, BUT THEN YOU SHOWED ONE PICTURE.

THAT JUST SEEMED OVERWHELMING TO ME, THAT ONE, THIS ONE.

OKAY.

THE ONE BEFORE IT LOOKS FESTIVE.

BEST ONE.

YES.

THAT'S STILL, THIS IS A, YES.

THIS IS OPTION.

THIS IS OPTION TWO.

THIS, THIS PICTURE LOOKS FESTIVE TO ME.

THERE'S, THERE'S A SPLASH OF COLOR THERE'S MOVEMENT, BUT THEN, AND MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THE TREES ARE BREAKING IT UP, BUT THEN IN THE NEXT SLIDE, THERE'S JUST SO MUCH YEAH.

THAT'S MY PERSONAL REACTION TO IT.

UH, I THINK IT WOULD BE IMPORTANT EVEN THOUGH THERE'S ONLY A COUPLE OF STEPS TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE HAND RAIL FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO ARE COMING INTO THE LIBRARY.

SO I SHOULD NOTE THAT ON, I KNOW THERE'S MORE THAN ONE ENTRANCE, BUT YES.

AND WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING

[00:25:01]

IS YES.

COMPLIANT.

UM, THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF THIS PARKING ON THIS SIDE.

WE'LL BE, UM, ACCESSIBLE PARKING HERE WITH ALL OF THIS, UH, VERY CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE.

YEAH.

VERY CLOSE TO THE MAIN ENTRANCE, UM, THERE, BUT WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT ANY OF THESE STEPS IN ANY OF THIS, IT DOES MEET ADA AND TASK REQUIREMENTS HERE.

ALL RIGHT.

DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT THESE, THESE OPTIONS? GREAT.

THANK YOU, KAREN.

THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL TO GET YOUR FEEDBACK.

SO ARE THERE ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT OTHER LANDSCAPING ISSUES THAT ARE UP BECAUSE THAT ARE GOING TO GO OUTSIDE POSSIBLY IN TERMS OF WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THE OVERALL LANDSCAPE PLAN? UM, I CAN BRING THAT NEXT MEETING.

I MEAN, I THINK THAT CAN ALSO, THAT CAN ALWAYS HELP CREATE A CONTRAST TO THE PROBLEM OF THE BUILDING ITSELF, RIGHT.

THE SQUARENESS OF IT.

AND IT'S, I THINK IN GENERAL SORT OF INHOSPITABLE AESTHETIC.

I AGREE.

AND SO, I DON'T KNOW, AND AGAIN, IT'S ALWAYS A BUDGET PROBLEM, BUT YOU KNOW, WATER BLOCKS, OTHER ARCHITECTURALLY CIRCULAR THINGS THAT SORT OF TRY TO RECREATE DIFFERENT SPACE OR WHATEVER CAN HELP.

I THINK AESTHETICALLY REMOVE OUR VISION FROM THE 1970S.

YOU CAN, YOU CAN JUST COME OUT AND SAY IT IT'S OKAY.

NO ONE'S FEELINGS ARE GOING TO BE WITH TAXPAYER MONEY AT THE TIME.

I KNOW IT'S NOT THE MOST ATTRACTIVE BUILDING.

YEAH.

YEAH.

AND SO, I MEAN, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TRYING TO SORT OF CREATE A SPACE THAT IS INVITING AND PLEASING TO THE EYE.

UM, I JUST, I'M ONLY ASKING JUST IF PEOPLE ARE CONSIDERING SOME OF THOSE THINGS THAT CAN INFLUENCE HOW THE DRIVE UP APPEAL, RIGHT? YEAH.

YES.

BUT THE SHORT ANSWER IS YES.

AND WE'LL BE GOING THROUGH MANY MORE CONVERSATIONS.

WE DO HAVE TO KEEP BUDGET IN MIND AND HAVE TO KEEP WHAT IS, UM, FEASIBLE.

LIKE WE BRING IN THE PARKS DEPARTMENT AT THAT POINT AND TALK ABOUT LANDSCAPE AND WHAT, WHAT CAN GROW, WHAT GROWS EASILY, WHAT CAN BE MAINTAINED WELL AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF CONVERSATIONS.

UM, THE OTHER THING THAT WE HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND TOO, THAT WE'VE BEEN DISCUSSING IS TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDSCAPE, THE BUILDING, ALL OF IT FLOWS AND LOOKS INTENTIONAL INSTEAD OF VERY, YEAH.

AND I MEAN, EVEN ZEROS, YOU KNOW, SORT OF DROUGHT RESISTANCE, SORT OF, YOU KNOW, LANDSCAPING, TEXAS, YOU KNOW, THAT THOSE CAN HAVE SHAPES ROUND SHAPES, RIGHT.

AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING THINGS, ROCKS THAT DON'T REQUIRE, YOU KNOW, WATER AND THOSE SORTS OF THINGS, BUT THEY DO PROVIDE SORT OF BEAUTY AND CONTRAST.

UM, AND AGAIN, DRIVE UP APPEAL WHERE WE'RE TRYING OUT A REAL ESTATE AGENT.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT.

AND THE NEXT ITEM, WE'LL TALK ABOUT WALNUT CREEK.

YES.

SO I WANT TO GIVE YOU, UM, WE'VE WE SHARED THIS AT THE LAST MEETING OR THE FEBRUARY MEETING.

I HAVE AN UPDATED VIDEO TO SHOW YOU, BUT I JUST WANT TO RUN THROUGH THE SLIDES REAL QUICK.

WE HAVE OFFICIALLY GONE INTO, UM, DESIGN DEVELOPMENT ON THE WALNUT CREEK PROJECT, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

THINGS WILL GET MUCH MORE DETAILED AT THIS POINT ON, UM, HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THIS PROJECT WILL GO TO BID.

AND THEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, THIS PROJECT WILL ACTUALLY HAVE SHOVELS GOING AND HAMMERS GOING AND WORK WILL START TO BE DONE JUST TO REVIEW.

THIS IS THE WORK AND SOME BRAINSTORMING OF HOW WE ENDED UP WITH A CONCEPT THAT WE CHOSE.

THIS IS ALMOST LIKE A LIBRARY CATHEDRAL WITH THE WINDOWS, THE, UM, VERY DRAMATIC, UM, FRONT ENTRANCE OF THE BUILDING IN THE LINES, UM, BOTH SIGHT LINES AND THE PITCH OF THE ROOF

[00:30:01]

AND THE REST OF THE LINES AND HOW THEY PLAY OFF WITH THE REC CENTER AND THE GYM THAT'S BEING CONSTRUCTED THERE.

LOTS OF REALLY GREAT BRANDING OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE WALNUT CREEK NAME ON THE BOTTOM HERE AND UP ON THE BUILDING.

THAT'S TO GIVE YOU, I JUST THINK IT'S GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL AT NIGHT JUST TO REVIEW.

THIS IS, UM, 18,000 SQUARE FEET.

IT'S OVER DOUBLES, THE, THE CURRENT LIBRARY LOCATION, A MUCH LARGER MEETING ROOM THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO HOUSE A HUNDRED PEOPLE, UH, BUT ALSO BE SUBDIVIDED WILL HAVE A MUCH LARGER SPACE FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN, UM, A STORYTIME ROOM FOR CHILDREN AND MUCH LARGER SPACE, UM, FOR AT COMPUTER ACCESSIBILITY, COPIERS, PRINTERS, SCANNERS, UM, HANDS-ON LEARNING FOR CHILDREN AS WELL.

SO WE'LL, LET'S SEE, 20, 24.

UM, THAT'S IF EVERYTHING GOES LIKE CLOCKWORK, TH THIS IS AN UPDATED VIDEO BY THE ARCHITECT TO GIVE YOU, UH, A 3D VISUALIZATION.

NOW THE SIDE THAT'S OVER TO THE LEFT, UM, IS A STAFF WORKROOM AREA.

THIS IS THE ADULT READING AREA.

THEY'LL STILL BE DOING LIGHTING STUDIES TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE PROVIDING, UM, SHADING, UH, ON THE INTERIOR OF THE LIBRARIES THAT NEEDS TO BE, I WANT TO BE AMAZING.

YEAH.

A COMMUNITY GARDEN CENTER WHERE PEOPLE DID.

SO WE HAVE THE LARGE PORCH THAT THE ADULTS, UM, READING AREA AND THE LARGE COMMUNITY ROOM SPILL OUT ONTO THIS AREA HERE CAN BE USED AN AMPHITHEATER BY THE LIBRARY AND REC CENTER AND JOINT VENTURES, JOINT PROJECTS.

SOME OF THAT OUTDOOR SPACE BE RENTED OUT FOR PRIVATE ACTIVITIES.

I DON'T KNOW.

I THINK THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE SOMETHING THAT, I MEAN, I JUST, IT JUST SORT OF REVENUE SENSE, UM, YOU KNOW, RENTED DOWN FOR MEETINGS.

THERE COULD BE CATERED THERE, KITCHEN AT, UM, HOLLABAUGH THEY ARE ENLARGING THE KITCHEN THERE.

SO, NO, I MUST SAY SOME OF THOSE CHAIRS ARE NOT THE MOST COMFORTABLE THINGS FOR VERY WELL BE THAT AS IT MAY.

SO OVERALL, THIS IS A VERY EXCITING PROJECT TOO.

AND, UM, AGAIN, IF ALL GOES WELL, THIS PROJECT AND CENTRAL WILL BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THE SAME TIME, UM, TO TWO MAJOR PIECES OF WORK GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME.

AND ARE, ARE THERE, ARE THERE SOLAR PANELS ON THE ROOFS OR THERE AREN'T RIGHT NOW IT SEEMS SO OPEN AND OBVIOUS.

I KEEP ASKING ABOUT SOLAR.

UH, AND ONE THING I WANT TO MENTION TOO, IS THAT BOTH THE GYM AND THE LIBRARY EDITION THE TRAIL THAT'S AROUND HOLLABAUGH REMAINS THERE.

I THINK IT HAS TO BE MOVED JUST A TOUCH UP IN THE, THE NORTH PART.

UM, BUT THE, THE TRAIL COMPLETES THE TRACK, BE QUITE A SHOWPIECE.

YES.

IT WILL BE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

OKAY.

THANK YOU, KAREN.

ARE THERE OTHER COMMENTS ON WALNUT CREEK? ALL RIGHT.

WELL, WHAT CREEK IT WAS, WHAT THEY HAD AS A BUILDING IS UNBELIEVABLE.

THEY HAD AN EATING ROOM WITH MAYBE 110 PEOPLE COULD MEET IN

[00:35:01]

THAT MEETING ROOM.

THE EMERGENCY EXIT WAS THE CLOSET.

SO IF YOU HAD A FIRE AND YOU HAD TO EVACUATE, YOU HAD TO THROW OPEN THE DOOR AND CLIMB OVER THE CHAIRS.

IT WAS PRETTY PATHETIC.

SO IT, IT'S A WONDERFUL THING TO LOOK FORWARD TO.

OKAY.

AND NOW WE'LL HEAR ABOUT THE LIBRARY KIOSKS.

YES.

I DO NOT HAVE AN, A BEAUTIFUL IMAGE TO SHOW YOU A, THE LIBRARY.

UH, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE.

WE ARE MOVING FORWARD ON BOTH OF THOSE PROJECTS.

WE'RE WORKING WITH ARCHITECTS.

UH, WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THE PARKS DEPARTMENT ON THE LAWN WHEN EDITION OF THE LIBRARY MATERIALS KIOSK.

AND I THINK THERE SHOULD BE GOING, I MAY BE SPEAKING WRONG HERE.

I DON'T THINK THEY'RE MUCH LONGER BEFORE GOING TO BID ON THAT PROJECT.

AND ONCE THEY DO, UM, WE'LL COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF THAT PARTICULAR MODEL, UM, AT THAT LOCATION.

UM, AND THEN FOR OUR CENTRAL LIBRARY OR CENTRAL LIBRARY AT THE KIOSK, IT'S GOING TO BE, UM, INSTALLED RIGHT OUTSIDE OF CITY HALL, CLOSE TO THIS SQUARE.

UM, WE ARE WORKING WITH AN ARCHITECT FOR PLACEMENT AND AN AWNING COVERING AND THE WRAP FOR THAT AS WELL.

SO PROBABLY TOWARDS THE END OF THIS CALENDAR YEAR, UM, THERE SHOULD BE MOVEMENT LIKE PHYSICAL INSTALLATION MOVEMENT ON THOSE PROJECTS.

OKAY.

THANK YOU, KAREN.

AND THE NEXT ITEM IS THE BUDGET UPDATE.

WE ARE IN FULL SWING FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 23 OPERATING BUDGET.

UM, WE'VE BEEN, WE'VE SUBMITTED OUR BUDGET REQUESTS, HIGHLIGHTING CHILDREN'S SERVICES, PROGRAMMING, OUTREACH, UM, SERVICES FOR ADULTS, UH, POSSIBLY.

UM, I HAVE A NEW DATABASE AND WE CAN MAKE EVERYTHING WORK.

UM, WE DO HAVE TWO UNFUNDED REQUESTS THAT WE'RE MOVING FORWARD WITH.

ONE OF THOSE IS FOR CONTINUED MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE FOR OUR AUTOMATED MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS THAT ARE AT ALL FOUR LOCATIONS.

UM, OUR CURRENT CONTRACT WILL END, UM, I THINK THE BEGINNING PART OF NEXT CALENDAR YEAR, FISCAL YEAR.

UM, AND THEN TOO, ONCE THE CITY MOVES US OVER TO, UM, OFFICE 365, WE'LL WANT TO UPGRADE THE PATRON, UM, OFFICE SUITE TO MATCH WHAT WE HAVE SO WE CAN BETTER HELP PATRONS AND PATRONS CAN HAVE THE LATEST.

UM, SO THAT IS UNFUNDED REQUESTS AS WELL.

THE CITY MANAGER WILL GO THROUGH WELL, IT'S WITH BUDGET.

NOW, THE CITY MANAGER WILL MAKE HIS OR GO THROUGH ALL OF THE DIFFERENT REQUESTS AND THEN MAKE HIS, UM, REQUEST TO COUNCIL.

I BELIEVE IN JULY OF, UM, 20, 22, ALMOST AT 20 23, 20 23, PARTICULARLY 2023, AND THEN GO THROUGH THE PRESENTATIONS, PUBLIC HEARINGS IN AUGUST WITH THE ADOPTION, HOPEFULLY IN SEPTEMBER.

UM, AND HOPEFULLY IT'S A SMOOTH PROCESS.

GREAT.

THANK YOU.

LIBRARY PILOT PROJECTS.

OH, ALL RIGHT.

OH, WAIT.

I'M NOT SURE IF IT DID FANTASTIC.

OKAY.

SO WE HAVE TWO PILOT PROJECTS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON, BOTH OF THEM LARGE, AND BOTH OF THEM HITTING A VERY TARGETED DEMOGRAPHIC.

THE FIRST IS LIBRARY, UM, HOME-BOUND ACCESS FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS, AND I WILL SAY, UM, SOME OF YOU RECEIVED, I HAVE BY, BY HAND TO GIVE YOU A TYPED LETTER FROM A CONCERNED CITIZEN, UM, ACTUALLY SABRINA, DO YOU MIND HANDING THOSE OUT? UM, THE LETTER BASICALLY, WELL, I SHOULD TAKE A STEP BACK WHEN WE CLOSE FOR THE PANDEMIC FOR COVID WE PROVIDED, UM, UH, PATRONS, THE ABILITY TO GET AN E-CARD ONLINE AND THE CARD WAS GOOD FOR 60 DAYS.

I NEED TO FIND OUT HOW TO DO THAT BECAUSE IT'S NOT, IT'S NOT A DRESS.

YEAH.

OKAY.

UM, THE CARD WAS GOOD FOR 60 DAYS AND WE KEPT RENEWING IT BY PHONE OR BY EMAIL, NOT KNOWING, YOU KNOW, HOW THE PANDEMIC WAS GOING TO GO.

UM, FAST FORWARD

[00:40:01]

TWO YEARS, WE ARE, UH, OPEN BACK UP A HUNDRED PERCENT.

WE HAVE SERVICES GOING, BUT WHAT WE'RE FINDING AND WHAT THIS GENTLEMAN WROTE TO US ABOUT IS THAT, UM, THAT CARD WORKED REALLY WELL FOR THEIR FAMILY SITUATION.

HE AND HIS WIFE ARE HOME BAIL AND THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE, BUT THEY REALLY ENJOY THE SERVICES THAT THE LIBRARY PROVIDES, THE CONTENT, DOWNLOADABLE, EBOOKS, AUDIO BOOKS, UH, THE MAGAZINES AND THE LIKE, INSTEAD OF HAVING TO CALL AND RENEW THEIR ACCOUNT EVERY 60 OR 90 DAYS CAN SOMETHING MORE PERMANENTLY BE DONE.

SO TAKE THE PROBLEM, UM, COME UP WITH A SOLUTION.

AND WHAT WOULD LIKE TO DO, OR WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING SINCE APRIL OF THIS YEAR IS FOR THOSE CITIZENS WHO ARE, UM, HAVE A, A NEED, UM, WE'RE EXTENDING THEIR CARD FOR THE E RESOURCES BY TWO YEARS.

AND SO THEY HAVE ACCESS TO, UM, EBOOKS, IE MAGAZINES, DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT, THE DATABASES WITH THEIR LIBRARY CARD.

I SHOULD SAY THAT, UM, THIS IS PHASE ONE.

IT IS JUST FOR THE E-CARD ACCESS.

IT DOESN'T INCLUDE PHYSICAL MATERIALS UNLESS YOU COME INTO THE LIBRARY AND CHECK THOSE PHYSICAL MATERIALS OUT, AND WE STILL DO CURBSIDE SERVICE.

SO IF A PATRON WANTS TO COME AND REQUEST THAT A, THEY WOULD LIKE ANY NUMBER OF ITEMS, WE CAN GO AHEAD AND WE HAVE A PROCESS THAT WILL CHECK THOSE MATERIALS OUT AND YOU CAN CALL US WHEN YOU'RE IN THE PARKING LOT, WE'LL RENT THEM OUT TO YOUR VEHICLE.

UM, AND THIS IS LIMITED TO GARLAND RESIDENTS, AT LEAST RIGHT NOW FOR THE PILOT.

SO WE HAVE STARTED WITH A SOFT LAUNCH.

I THINK WE HAVE A TOTAL OF THREE PEOPLE RIGHT NOW WHO ARE SIGNED UP FOR THE, UM, THIS PARTICULAR CARD FOR THE TWO YEAR HOME BOUND ACCESS.

AND IT'S, IT'S WORKED, BUT WE ARE IT'S IN ITS INFANCY IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY.

SO I'M SURE, UM, WE'RE TRYING TO GROW AWARENESS OR THE NEXT STEP WILL BE TO GROW AWARENESS AND TRY TO GET THE WORD OUT TO DIFFERENT GROUPS, WHICH IS WHY WE'RE WORKING WITH THE, UH, GARLAND SENIOR CENTER.

UM, THEY SEEMED LIKE A NATURAL PLACE THAT WE WOULD START PROMOTING THIS PARTICULAR PILOT PROJECT AND, UM, PROVIDING ACCESS TO THEIR, UH, PATRONS AS WELL.

AND TRYING TO WORK WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR ANYBODY THAT THEY MAY KNOW WHO, UM, ARE HOME BOUND AND NEED LIBRARY SERVICES.

OUR SECOND PILOT PROJECT IS, UM, AIMED AT CHILDREN, STUDENTS.

UM, AND WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO IS TO HELP FAMILIES, UM, TO HELP CHILDREN START SCHOOL, READY WITH SCHOOL READINESS IS HAVE, UM, A PARTNERSHIP WITH I GIS D THAT STUDENTS ENTERING PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN HAVE THE OPTION TO OPT IN FOR A GARLAND LIBRARY CARD.

AND SO THEIR PARENT CHECKS, YES, WE ISSUED THEM A LIBRARY CARD AND THEY HAVE ACCESS NOT ONLY JUST TO THE CONTENT, BUT THE PHYSICAL CONTENT AT THE LIBRARY AS WELL.

AND SO WE'RE TARGETING THOSE CHILDREN, THOSE FAMILIES THAT PROBABLY HAVE EITHER OLDER SIBLINGS, YOUNGER SIBLINGS, TRYING TO TARGET THE FAMILY UNIT AS A WHOLE AND PROVIDE, UM, GREATER ACCESS TO LIBRARY MATERIALS, TO SOME FAMILIES WHO MAY NOT KNOW THAT, UM, THEY HAVE ACCESS TO A PUBLIC LIBRARY THAT IT'S FREE, AND THAT WE HAVE A WORLD OF RESOURCES AND MATERIALS TARGETED JUST FOR NEW LEARNERS, UM, BUILDING EMERGENT LITERACY SKILLS, BUILDING FAMILY LITERACY SKILLS.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL, UM, TAKE SOME TIME TO CONTINUE TO, UM, YEAH.

GET ALL THE KEY DEVELOP.

YES.

THANK YOU.

UM, WE HAVE MEETINGS SCHEDULED AGAIN THIS WEEK WITH GIS D WITH ROLLA AND WITH TAXIS PUBLIC LIBRARIES, BECAUSE THEY ARE PART OF GIS D AND, UM, IT MAY BE EASIER FOR SOME OF THOSE GASC FAMILIES TO GET TO SAXY OR GET TO WRAL AT THEN GARLAND.

BUT WE WANT ALL OF OUR KIDS, ALL OF OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE AS MUCH ACCESS TO, UM, EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT MATERIALS AS POSSIBLE AND FOR THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL.

SO WHILE THIS IS TARGETED TO PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN, UM, WE'D LIKE TO BE ABLE TO OPEN IT UP EVENTUALLY TO ALL GIS D STUDENTS AT WHEN A PARENT HAS TO REGISTER FOR THEIR CHILD FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

UH, DIC IS GOING TO LOOK AT PUTTING A LITTLE BOX THAT SAYS THE PARENT OPPS THEM IN, AND WE CAN GET THEIR, THEIR CHILDREN CARDS AT THAT POINT.

SO THIS HAS, UH, THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HAVE A REALLY GREAT IMPACT WITH PAST STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

[00:45:03]

SO ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, BUT IN MARKETING AND IN THE WORKS ON THIS PARTICULAR PILOT PROGRAM? YES, MA'AM ACTUALLY FOR BOTH, UH, PILOT PROGRAMS, WE'LL HAVE SOME MARKETING, BUT ESPECIALLY FOR THE GIS D UM, PROGRAM AS WELL, BUT IT'S OUR EARLY STAGES, VERY EARLY STAGES, BUT WE'LL BE GOING.

UM, OUR OUTREACH MORGAN AT BLACKBURN HAS BEEN WORKING WITH GIS D AND WE'VE GOT SOME REALLY EXCITING OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES, UH, NOT CONFIRMED STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGES, BUT TO DO SOME BIG LIBRARY CARD SIGNUP, UM, EVENTS AND SOME IN-PERSON, UM, EVENTS WITH GIS SEATED TO, AGAIN, REALLY TARGET THOSE PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN, AND ACTUALLY TRY TO, UH, TARGET SOME LOWER PERFORMING PRESCHOOL AND EARLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, UH, SCHOOLS THAT NEED A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT OR THEIR FAMILIES NEED A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT AND EXTRA, UM, HELP.

AND IS THERE, DO WE HAVE A SPECIFIC CONTACT PERSON IN GENERAL, STEVE, THAT WE ALWAYS WORKED WITH IS SOMEONE DEDICATED TO, OH, YES.

THERE, WHAT I HAVE LEARNED? SO THIS WAS, UH, PROBABLY TELLING YOU TOO MUCH HERE IN 20 SOMETHING YEARS OF WORKING IN LIBRARIES, I'VE NEVER HAD A SCHOOL SYSTEM RESPOND AS POSITIVELY TO A PROJECT AS THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT.

AND I'VE GOTTEN TO MEET MANY, MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT, BUT GIS IS PRETTY AWESOME BECAUSE THEY DO HAVE A SPECIALIST OR HAVE A LIAISON FOR ALMOST EVERY NEED THAT'S OUT THERE.

SO THIS IS A REALLY GREAT WAY I'VE GOTTEN TO MEET AND WORK WITH, UM, THEIR PRESCHOOL SPECIALIST OR EARLY ELEMENTARY SPECIALIST, THEIR INTAKE SPECIALISTS, UH, SOMEBODY FROM THEIR TECHNOLOGY, FAMILY AND ENGAGEMENT.

IT'S, IT'S PRETTY ROBUST.

SO THERE ARE MULTIPLE PEOPLE THAT YOU INTERACT WITH AS OPPOSED TO, YES.

WE HAVE ONE PERSON THAT IS GENERALLY OUR GO-TO JONATHAN ARMSTRONG.

WE HAVE A GENERAL QUESTION.

HE CAN POINT US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT, UM, WE'VE WORKED WITH HIM FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT THIS ONE'S GOING TO TAKE A VILLAGE.

YEAH.

SO, UM, BUT THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT ARE DEDICATED TO DEVELOPING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LIBRARY AND THE SCHOOL.

ABSOLUTELY CARING.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT, I'M SORRY.

UM, I'M JUST SORT OF CURIOUS ABOUT OTHER CITIES, THE EXTENT TO WHICH THEY ARE DEVELOPING AND FOSTERING SORT OF THESE PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE LIBRARIES, IS THIS UBIQUITOUS, OR IS THIS SORT OF ISOLATED IN ISOLATED IT'S IN BETWEEN? I WOULD SAY IT'S NOT UBIQUITOUS, BUT IT'S, I THINK IT'S, I CAN'T SPEAK FOR OTHER LIBRARIES AND OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS, BUT WE BOTH NEED EACH OTHER.

AND WE, UM, I THINK IT'S ALMOST EVERY PUBLIC LIBRARIES DREAM TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD PARTNERSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL.

AND I'M, I'M USING, UH, JISD IN THIS INCIDENT INSTANCE AND FUTURE PHASES WILL BE TAKING IN AND, AND DEVELOPING, UM, THIS PROGRAM WITH PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND, YOU KNOW, HOMESCHOOL GROUPS AS WELL.

UM, BUT I LOST MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT WITH THAT WITH SAYING, NO, I WAS JUST SORT OF INTERESTING HISTORICALLY OF THE EXTENT THAT THE RELATIONSHIP WITH US AND THEN JUST SURROUNDING SCHOOLS AND YOU SORT OF ANTICIPATED MY NEXT QUESTION ABOUT THE PRIVATE SCHOOL WORLD IN THE CITY.

CAUSE LIKE, YOU KNOW, JUST DOWN THE STREET, UM, GOOD SHEPHERD.

I MEAN, THIS IS, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A COMMUNITY OF, YOU KNOW, GROUPS THAT CAN NEED HELP AND HAVE SOME SORT OF RESOURCES AND THAT SORT OF THING.

SO, AND I, I DON'T WANT TO, I MEAN, WE PROBABLY NEED TO COME BACK AND, UM, AT A, FOR A FUTURE AGENDA ITEM, TALK ABOUT OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM BECAUSE PART OF OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM ALSO ADDRESSES SOME OF THESE CONCERNS TO OUR OUTREACH TEAM.

WE HAVE ONE DEDICATED PERSON WHO DOES OUT HER HELPS US ORGANIZE AND GET THINGS TOGETHER FOR OUTREACH, BUT IT REALLY IS A JOINT EFFORT OF EVERYBODY IN ALL THE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS GOING OUT AND REPRESENTING THE LIBRARY.

BUT WE HAVE, I DON'T THINK I BROUGHT THIS STATISTIC THIS FROM OCTOBER 1ST, 2021 TO

[00:50:01]

MAY 9TH, WE HAVE INTERACTED WITH OVER 2,500 PEOPLE FROM OUR OUTREACH EVENT.

UM, AND SOMETIMES THAT'S US HAVING AN EVENT AT A SCHOOL SOMETIMES IT'S, UM, US BEING ASKED TO GO TO IT'S A SCHOOL, IT'S A DAYCARE EVEN START HEAD START.

UM, OH, I HAVE IT ON THE NEXT SLIDE UNDER LIBRARY PROGRAMMING.

SO BEFORE WE LEAVE THIS, UM, I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT CURBSIDE PICKUP.

YOU MENTIONED THAT I WAS WONDERING HOW POPULAR IT IS.

AND IF YOU SEE THAT BECOMING A PERMANENT SERVICE, IT HAS NOT BEEN AS POPULAR AS I THOUGHT WHEN, UH, I THINK SO TWO OF OUR LIBRARY LOCATIONS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, THEY HAD PRETTY REGULAR SOUTH AND NORTH.

THERE WERE PEOPLE WHO WERE COMING ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR CURBSIDE PICKUP.

ONCE WE OPENED THE DOORS, WE, UM, I WOULDN'T SAY IT'S ZERO, BUT IT'S PROBABLY, I CAN COUNT IT ON ONE HAND.

THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL UTILIZING THE SERVICE, IT'S STILL THERE AND WE'RE STILL, WE WILL BRING YOUR MATERIALS OUT TO YOU.

UM, BUT WE'VE FOUND THAT PEOPLE WANT TO COME IN.

THEY WANT TO PROWESS THE COLLECTION.

THEY WANT TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE INSTEAD OF HAVING THAT, IT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN THE GROCERY STORES.

I THINK THE GROCERY STORES HAVE FOUND THE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO LET GO OF BEING ABLE TO ORDER YOUR GROCERIES AND HAVE THEM DELIVERED EITHER TO YOUR HOME OR TO YOUR CAR, BUT PEOPLE WANT TO COME IN AND LOOK AT THEM AT THE MATERIALS IN THE LIBRARY.

OKAY.

PLUS GETTING TO PARTICIPATE IN LIBRARY PROGRAMMING AS WELL.

YOU CAN'T DO THAT FROM YOUR CAR.

WHAT A GREAT SEGUE NEXT ON THE LIBRARY PROGRAMMING.

OH, NO, I DIDN'T PUT A PHOTO HERE.

SO LIBRARY OUTREACH.

SO, SO FAR FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR, WE'VE ATTENDED OVER 35 EVENTS AND SPOKEN WITH OVER 2200 PEOPLE.

WE'VE GOT FIVE MORE EVENTS CAN, UH, CONFIRMED.

AND WE HAVE TWO OTHER VERY LARGE, UM, EVENTS PLANNED AND THE TWO OTHER LARGE ONES ARE TARGETED TO PRESCHOOLERS AND PRESCHOOL FAMILIES TO GET THEM READY FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

UM, WE HAVE ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS.

SO WHILE WE, WE HAVE GONE TO SCHOOLS A LOT THIS YEAR, WE'VE ALSO DONE THINGS WITH REGION 10, WHICH IS PART OF THE, UM, INFRASTRUCTURE.

YES.

THANK YOU.

UM, WE'VE GONE TO HEADSTART EVEN STAR CHILDREN'S TREE HOUSE IS AT SENIOR CENTERS.

WE'VE HIT A LOT OF DIFFERENT PLACES AND THE FEEDBACK HAS BEEN REALLY, REALLY, UM, GREAT.

I WILL SAY, UM, OUR TEAM WENT OUT LAST WEEK TO A BILINGUAL EVENT AT, UM, HARMONY SCHOOL HARMONY.

UM, AND OUT OF ALL THE FAMILIES THAT CAME, ALL OF THEM WANTED A LIBRARY CARD AND ALMOST EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN A FAMILY LEFT WITH A LIBRARY CARD.

SO IT'S, IT'S BEING WELL RECEIVED AND WE'RE GETTING CALLS ALMOST ON A WEEKLY BASIS WHEN DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS FIND OUT THAT WE'RE GOING BACK OUT IN THE COMMUNITY WHERE WE'RE WANTING TO TALK WITH PEOPLE ABOUT LIBRARIES, ABOUT OUR SERVICES, ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS, GET PEOPLE ISSUED FOR A LIBRARY CARD.

WE'VE HAD TO SAY A COUPLE OF TIMES OUR, OUR DANCE CARD IS FULL, BUT WE CAN FIT YOU IN, YOU KNOW, ON THIS WEEK OR THAT WEEK, WHICH WAS A REALLY THING.

UM, THAT'S A GREAT PLACE TO BE IN.

AND DO YOU, STEPHANIE, DO YOU HAVE, CAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A LIBRARY SECRETARY OF STATE AND UM, SO THEY, THERE IS SOMEONE WHO IS THE PERSON WHO'S SORT OF COORDINATING ALL THESE SORTS OF THINGS, MORGAN BLACKBURN, BUT IT REALLY IT'S A TEAM EFFORT AS WELL.

OH, I DIDN'T SAY THIS AS WELL.

WE ALSO HAVE BEEN GOING OUT TO LOCAL BUSINESSES AND WE JUST, UM, HAD A BOOTH AT THIS PAST YEAR'S GARLAND EXPO, WHICH WAS LAST FRIDAY.

SO THAT WAS FUN TOO IN OUR PARKING LOT.

THE NEXT SLIDE.

SO NEXT ON LIBRARY PROGRAMMING, UM, WE'VE HAD, SINCE THE SQUARE HAS BEEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION TORN UP AND IS BEING CONSTRUCTED, WE HAVE AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY AT CENTRAL LIBRARY OF BEING ONE OF THE ONLY PLACES WITH A LARGE PARKING LOT OR A LARGE OUTDOOR PLACE TO BE ABLE TO HOST SOME DIFFERENT THINGS.

AND, UM, WE HAD OUR CHANCE OR OUR FIRST CHANCE TO DO THAT.

LAST WEEK, WE HOSTED THE, UM, GARLAND CHAMBER, THEIR EXPO ANNUAL EXPO EVENT.

IT WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED.

WE HAD A BOOTH THERE.

WE HELPED COORDINATE, UM, THIS IS WRONG.

WELL, LET ME JUST START, LOOK AT THE PICTURE.

[00:55:01]

AND, UM, I THINK THERE WERE OVER 40 SOMETHING VENDORS THAT SHOWED UP AND HAD A BOOTH AT THE, UM, AT THE EXPO, US BEING ONE OF THEM.

WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO AROUND AND MEET LOTS OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE, LOTS OF DIFFERENT BUSINESSES MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

UM, SO THIS WAS A REALLY GREAT EVENT.

I THINK THE CHAMBER WAS ALSO VERY HAPPY WITH THE EVENT.

IT WAS KIND OF AWESOME.

SO FRIDAY IS ONE OF OUR SLOWER DAYS AT THE LIBRARY AND IT WAS REALLY COOL TO LOOK AT ALL THE TENTS THAT WERE SET UP IN OUR WEST PARKING LOT TO SEE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO WERE GOING THROUGH MILLING ABOUT COMING INTO THE LIBRARY, BECAUSE IT WAS A GREAT CHANCE FOR US TO MARKET OURSELVES, TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T NORMALLY COME.

SO WE'D LIKE TO DO, UH, CONTINUE TO DO DIFFERENT PARTNERSHIPS AND DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE THIS TO BRING PEOPLE TO US.

SO ANOTHER AMAZING OPPORTUNITY, UM, HOW MANY ARE HOPE? ALL OF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE GARLAND GUZZLER WITH THE EVENTS DEPARTMENT THAT THEY HAVE A 0.5 RACE.

I HAVE FOUR T-SHIRTS AND THEN A NICE, UM, COMMUNITY GET TOGETHER PARTY AFTERWARDS.

SO AGAIN, THIS YEAR, BECAUSE THE SQUARE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, THEY'RE LOOKING FOR DIFFERENT, A DIFFERENT PLACE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE PARTY AFTERWARDS AND THE EVENT AND OUR PARKING LOT CAME UP AS ONE OF THOSE POSSIBLE PLACES, WHICH WOULD, I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO, BUT WANTED TO GET YOUR FEEDBACK BECAUSE THE EVENT, UM, DOES SERVE ALCOHOL AT THE EVENT.

UM, IT'S, UH, IT WOULD BE DEEMED AT, UM, IT WOULD BE SATURDAY.

I BELIEVE IT'S SEPTEMBER 17TH, BUT DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT DATE.

UM, AT FIVE O'CLOCK THE COULD, THEY COULD BE POTENTIALLY USING OUR WEST PARKING LOT.

AND I THINK WE HAVE A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO, TO HARNESS THE ENERGY THAT'S GOING ON WITH THIS EVENT.

SO THE FIRST, AND I WILL JUST DIRECTLY SAY MY PREFERENCE IS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY THAT'S IN OUR PARKING LOT, EVEN THOUGH ALCOHOL WILL BE BEING SERVED AT IT.

UM, AND HAVE A LIBRARY AFTER HOURS PROGRAM, SINCE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN AUDIENCE THERE.

OUR SECOND OPTION I THINK, IS TO CLOSE EARLY, BUT YOU KNOW, STILL HAVE SOME KIND OF PRESENCE OUTSIDE, WHETHER IT'S A BOOTH, A TABLE, SOMETHING THAT WAY.

AND THEN THE THIRD OPTION WOULD BE TO CLOSE THE LIBRARY AND HAVE NO PRESENCE AT THE EVENT, BUT I DON'T REALLY THINK THAT'S AN OPTION.

I THINK WE WANT TO HARNESS THE OPPORTUNITY.

THAT'S KIND OF FALLEN INTO OUR LAPS.

SO I WILL ASK, UM, ASK YOU ALL, WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERENCES SINCE THIS IS IT'S A SHORT, THIS IS SEPTEMBER AND SCHOOL WILL HAVE RESUME FROM THE SUMMER.

I LIKED THE FIRST OPTION I DO TOO.

IT'S A COMMUNITY EVENT AND IT'S A LOT OF FUN.

YOU CAN START TRAINING NOW, IS IT REGULARLY? THERE'S A DONUT HISTORICALLY.

THERE'S BEEN A DONUT STOP HALFWAY FOR THOSE WHO NEED SUSTENANCE TO GO ON CAR BLOATING.

I THINK FOR THE, FOR THE PRICE, FOR THE PRICE OF REGISTRATION, I THINK THE ENTERTAINMENT FACTOR IS, IS MULTIPLES OF WHAT YOU, WHAT YOU PAY TO PARTICIPATE.

SO I THINK IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE LIBRARY.

HORRIBLE.

THEN WE WILL MOVE FORWARD WITH, UM, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HAVING SOME KIND OF LIBRARY AFTER HOURS FRONT OF IT.

AWESOME.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT.

AND OUR FOURTH, UM, IS OUR ANNUAL SUMMER READING PROGRAM.

UM, KATHLEEN'S GOING TO SPEAK A LITTLE BIT MORE.

WE NEED A VOTE.

I JUST NEED A DIRECTION OF THAT DIRECTION.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

UM, EXCUSE ME, OUR ANNUAL SUMMER READING PROGRAM.

I HOPE YOU'RE ALL READY FOR IT.

IT BEGINS JUNE 11TH AND RUNS THROUGH JULY 30TH AND THERE WILL BE A STEALING PART OF KATHLEEN CENTER HERE, BUT, UM, EACH LOCATION WILL HAVE A KICKOFF PARTY ON JUNE 11TH, UM, GENERALLY IN THE AFTERNOON, BUT CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR SPECIFIC TIMES FOR EACH EVENT.

IT'S NOT JUST FOR CHILDREN, IT'S FOR CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS.

SO

[01:00:03]

YOU'RE ENCOURAGED TO BRING OUT YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY.

YOU CAN REGISTER THROUGH BEAN STACK, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO KATHLEEN.

AND SHE'S GOT MORE SPECIFICS.

UM, WHEN I WAS PUTTING TOGETHER THIS STUFF, KAREN HAD HAD THIS SLIDE AND THEN I WAS PUTTING TOGETHER THE REST OF IT.

AND I WAS LOOKING AT EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE GOT THIS YEAR AND AFTER NOT HAVING THE PROGRAMS OR HAVE A LIMITED PROGRAMS FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS.

AND I WAS LOOKING AT EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE GOT THE NEW TEAM THAT WE'VE GOT, THE ER, THAT'S PARTICIPATING IN PROGRAMMING.

AND I WAS REALLY EXCITED WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT IT, PUTTING TO GET THINGS TOGETHER.

UM, AS KAREN MENTIONED FOR, TO SIGN UP, YOU CAN DO THAT ONLINE WITH BEING STACK.

WE'VE USED THAT FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

YOU CAN ALSO COME IN AND PICK UP, UH, LOGS.

AND THERE'S ONE FOR INFANT TO PRE-K KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SIX, SEVEN THROUGH 12TH, AND THEN THE ADULT, AND IT HAS, UH, ACTIVITIES AND RATING AND YOU MARK OFF THE THINGS AND THEN YOU BRING IT IN AND YOU'LL GET A, GET A PRIZE.

AND, UM, YOU CAN HAVE THE THREE LOGS AND THEN YOU CAN DO AN EXTRA ONE FOR A BONUS.

AND FOR THE BONUS ONE THAT GETS YOU, UH, AN ENTRY INTO, UH, FOR THE GRAND PRIZE, WHICH THEY'RE STILL FIGURING THAT PART OUT, BUT THEY WILL HAVE THE GRAND PRIZE.

UM, IN PAST YEARS, WE'VE HAD WEEK WEEKLY PERFORMERS AT EVERY LOCATION AND WE STILL HAVE THAT.

AND, BUT THIS, IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE'VE GOT STORY TIMES IN ENGLISH AND IN SPANISH, UH, ANDREA WILL BE DOING THE ONES IN SPANISH.

WE HAVE SPECIAL ACTIVITY PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES, LITTLE ART EXPLORERS.

SOME OF YOU MAY BE FAMILIAR WITH THE ART EXPLORERS THAT, UH, USED TO BE AT WALNUT CREEK.

LITTLE ART EXPLORERS IS HELD AT SOUTH GARLAND AND IT IS FOR LITTLE, LITTLE ONES TO JUST KIND OF WORK WITH MATERIALS AND PLAY.

IT'S NOT TO MAKE AN ART, AN ARTISTIC MASTERPIECE.

IT'S JUST TO HAVE FUN WITH IT.

UH, WE ALSO HAVE MIDDLE GRADE MAKERS AND STEAM CLUB AND STEAM LABS, AND THOSE ARE SIMILAR, BUT THEY'RE AT DIFFERENT AUDIENCES AND THEY'RE MAKING THINGS AND WHATEVER THEY MAKE, THEY GET TO TAKE HOME.

AND THEY'RE ALSO LEARNING, UH, CONCEPTS THAT, THAT GO WITH, UH, ALL OF THOSE.

WE HAVE ADULT CRAFT WORKSHOPS.

THOSE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN POPULAR.

AND THOSE NOT ONLY ARE WE BRINGING THOSE BACK, BUT WE ARE HAVING THOSE AT MORE LOCATIONS, WE HAVE, UH, UH, ADULT YOGA AND THAT IS AT CENTRAL.

AND THEN WE ARE THIS SUMMER WE'LL ALSO ITSELF OR JUST CENTRAL FRIDAYS.

UM, AND THEN COMPUTER CLASSES, WE'VE GOTTEN A LOT OF RESPONSE, A POSITIVE RESPONSE.

THE CLASSES HAVE BEEN FULL.

WE'VE HAD EXCEL WORD, GOOGLE DOCS, GOOGLE SHEETS.

AND WE ALSO WE'VE GOT A TYPING CLASS.

SO IT'S FOR THE PERSON THAT NEEDS THAT SKILL FOR A JOB.

UH, SOMEBODY THAT JUST WANTS TO LEARN IT, BUT WHATEVER THE REASON THEY'RE THEY ARE, UH, COMING TO THESE CLASSES.

AND AGAIN ON THIS, WE HAVE A SPANISH LANGUAGE, UH, CLASS.

WE HAVE SPANISH LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR THE COMPUTER CLASSES, AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE ESL CONVERSATIONS CLASS, AND THOSE THAT'S AT SOUTH AND CENTRAL.

AND WE ARE, IF YOU KNOW ANYBODY THAT CAN CAN BENEFIT FROM THAT, WE WE'VE GOT PEOPLE THAT ARE COMING, BUT WE CAN ALWAYS USE USE MORE BECAUSE THAT IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT I THINK WORKS BETTER WITH, WITH MORE PEOPLE.

AND SO WE, WE CAN INCREASE THAT IF WE CAN, IF WE CAN INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING TO, THAT WOULD EVEN BE BETTER.

BUT THE, UM, WE'VE GOT TEEN PROGRAMS AND WE ALWAYS HAD, WE HAVE THE SENIOR SOCIAL HOUR TOO.

SO WE'VE BROUGHT THAT BACK AND WE'VE GOT PERFORMERS SCHEDULED, UH, FOR, FOR THAT.

SO

[01:05:02]

DO WE STAMP THIS LIKE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE ALL THE OTHER THAN THE OTHER THAN THE PERFORMERS, THE PAID PERFORMERS, EVERYTHING IS INTERNAL.

UM, I THINK WE'RE GOING TO BE USING VOLUNTEER TO GET VOLUNTEERS, BUT THE LARGER EVENTS TWO IS TO ASSIST WITH THE STAFF AND THEN ALSO, UH, TO MAYBE DO REGISTRATION TABLES.

AND WHEN THEY'RE COMING UP TO EXPLAIN THE PROGRAM AND TO HAND OUT THE LOGS, THE READING LOGS, AND THEN WRITE DOWN THE INFORMATION TO HAND OUT PRIZES AND THINGS LIKE THAT, JUST THE LIBRARY, LAURIE, MANGAN, SHE A REALLY AWESOME, AWESOME AT OUR LIBRARY.

BOARD MEMBERS HAVE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL SUMMER READING PROGRAM.

YOU MAY PARTICIPATE, HOWEVER YOU CANNOT WIN.

YOU'RE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE GRAND PRIZE.

I DON'T KNOW YET MOST LIKELY, UH, THEY'RE LOOKING AT, UM, GIFT CARDS.

AND THEN ONE IS, UH, A MEMBERSHIP TO, IT'S NOT THE ZOO.

I'M TRYING TO REMEMBER.

IT'S A MEMBERSHIP TO, UH, ARBORETUM.

NOPE.

IT'S NOT ONE OF THOSE.

I SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN IT DOWN ANYWAY THAT THEY DON'T HAVE ALL OF IT, UM, DOWN.

SO, BUT WE WILL HAVE, UM, LIKE THE ACTIVITY FOR THE ADULT READING PROGRAM CAN PARTICIPATE IN THAT.

AND, UH, USUALLY WE, WE BRING THE PRIZES.

LIKE WE GIVE YOU ALL AS A SAMPLE OF THE PRIZES, SO YOU MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE GRAND PRIZE, BUT WE, WE LIKE TO GIVE THE BOARD EMPTY HANDED.

THAT'S RIGHT.

SO PARTICIPATE IF YOU'D LIKE TO, JUST FOR THE FUN OF KEEPING TRACK AND, AND, UM, I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT, A GREAT COMEBACK.

YEAH, IT'S PRETTY AWESOME.

ALL OF OUR, UM, ALL OF OUR STAFF HAS WORKED SO HARD TO BRING BACK THE PROGRAMS THIS SPRING REALLY LATE WINTER AND THIS SPRING, AND THIS WILL BE OUR FIRST MAJOR PUSH WITH MAJOR EVENTS SINCE THE PANDEMIC.

SO I THINK WE'RE ALL WILL BE EXHAUSTED AT THE END OF SUMMER, BUT WE'RE ALL REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE, THIS SUMMER.

WONDERFUL.

IS THE SPELLING BEE STILL AN ANNUAL EVENT OR DID, IS THAT GONE AWAY OR THEY DO NOT HAVE THAT SCHEDULE ISSUE.

THEY'RE LOOKING AT TRIVIA, I BELIEVE SO.

I THINK AT ONE TIME THEY WERE ALSO TRYING TO MOVE THAT TO A COOLER TIME THIS YEAR.

AND THEY DID THE LAST TIME THAT I HAD WAS IN THE FALL.

THEY DIDN'T GET A REAL BIG TURNOUT, BUT WHO KNOWS? THAT WAS STILL DURING COVID SO THEY HAVEN'T GIVEN UP ON IT.

I DON'T THINK.

OKAY.

UM, DO WE HAVE ANYTHING FOR MISCELLANEOUS? ANYONE? OKAY.

UH, HOW ABOUT FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS? YOU MENTIONED OUTREACH THE, UM, I GUESS I WOULD LIKE TO TALK MORE ABOUT JUST SORT OF THE WHOLE HISTORY OF THE OUTREACH AND ALL THE DIFFERENT PLACES THAT, I MEAN, YOU'VE OBVIOUSLY TOUCHED ON THAT A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT, BUT WE CAN KIND OF PUT THE HISTORY OF THAT AND WHEN WE STARTED AND, AND MAYBE IF WE HAVE OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER CITIES, I'M WONDERING TOO, I MEAN, IS THIS, UM, JUST SOMETHING THAT SORT OF LIBRARY ASSOCIATIONS HAVE BIG TOPICS ABOUT IT? I'M ASSUMING I'M JUST KIND OF CURIOUS ABOUT THAT IN TERMS OF IT'S A MATRIX SORT OF GOAL OR SO, AND THEN I DID HAVE A QUESTION FROM THE MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY, UM, THE LITTLE LIBRARY BOX DONATED BY THE FRIENDS.

UM, IF ARE WE IN CHARGE OF THAT OR THAT, I GUESS MY, YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT MY MOTHER.

YEAH.

IS THAT THE FRIENDS? ARE THE FRIENDS IN CHARGE OR YEAH, SHE SAID IT'S, UH, IT'S SORT OF BEEN MOVED.

UM, THEY MOVE IT.

I DON'T KNOW.

OH, THEY MUST'VE DONE IT

[01:10:01]

WITH THE CONSTRUCTION.

YEAH.

SO SHE WAS CURIOUS ABOUT IT'S AGAINST WALMART FOR THE SIDEWALK.

AND SO SHE'S GOOD TO KNOW.

YOU CAN JUST CALL ME.

I KNOW I, I SAID, I WOULD SAY, TELL HER, YOU HAVE SAID SOMETHING IT'S ON IT'S RECORDED.

UH, AND I KNOW IN THE MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEANING IT, UH, LISTED, UH, RESPONSE TO BANNED OR CHALLENGED BOOKS AS A FUTURE AGENDA ITEM, DID YOU, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU TALKED ABOUT THAT OR IF I MISSED IT SINCE I MISSED A MEETING, I, I MISSED THAT.

WE'LL BRING IT BACK NEXT MEETING.

YOU HAVE A DISCUSSION.

I'M SORRY ABOUT THAT.

I'M GLAD THAT I DIDN'T MISS IT.

ALL RIGHT.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? NONE.

WE ARE ADJOURNED.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.
