OKAY.

NEXT UP, UH, VERBAL BRIEFINGS.

FIRST UP, UH, CONVENTION AND BUSINESS BUREAU DOWNTOWN AND SPECIAL EVENTS REPORT.

WE'VE GOT DANA, DANA LODGE.

OH, PICTURES.

TAKE YOUR PEN.

S TAKE ON JAM.

MY NAME, THE DRAFT ONE.

REACH HAND.

YEAH.

RIGHT.

GOOD EVENING.

UM, I'M GONNA DO A VERY HIGH OVERVIEW OF THE THREE DEPARTMENTS THAT FALL UNDER, UM, MY DIRECTION.

OF COURSE.

UH, THEN I ANSWER TO ANDY HESSER.

SO, UM, OBVIOUSLY I KIND OF STAYED AT A HIGHER LEVEL, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, WE'D BE GLAD TO ANSWER THOSE.

UM, UNDER, UM, IN MY OFFICE, WE HAVE THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU, WHICH WE CALL VISIT GARLAND.

UM, WE HAVE THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT OFFICE, AND WE ALSO HAVE THE SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM.

SO WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT ALL THREE OF THEM.

THEY'RE FUNDED BY, UM, SEPARATE SOURCES AND GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF INSIGHT AS TO WHAT THEY DO.

SO FOR, UM, VISIT GARLAND, THEIR, UH, JOB IS TO BRING VISITORS INTO OUR CITY, STAY IN OUR HOTELS, UM, GIVE A POSITIVE IMPACT TO THE ECONOMIC, UM, DOLLARS THAT ARE COMING INTO OUR COMMUNITY.

UM, SO WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO DRIVE THOSE HOTEL ROOMS IS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO.

WE DO IT WITH, UM, SPORTS TOURNAMENTS, WHICH YOU USE A LOT OF THE PARK FACILITIES.

UM, BUT WE ALSO GO AFTER, UM, MEETINGS,

[00:05:01]

CONVENTIONS, UM, WEDDINGS, JUST ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE DRIVING VISITORS TO OUR, TO OUR CITY.

UM, AND WE REALLY AND TRULY ARE THE VOICE FOR THE CITY AS FAR AS POSI POSITIONING, UM, THE CITY AS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO COME AND VISIT AND ENJOY, ENJOY THE AMENITIES.

SO WE ARE REALLY CONSIDERING CONSIDERED A MARKETING ORGANIZATION.

WE TALK ABOUT THE, THE WONDERFUL PARKS, THE LAKES, THE, UM, JUST ALL THE AMENITIES.

WE'RE OBVIOUSLY GONNA HAVE A GREAT TIME TALKING ABOUT OUR WONDERFUL DOWNTOWN, ONCE THAT'S DONE.

SO ANYTHING THAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT WE WANNA SPREAD THE WORD FOR THE MOST PART, A CITIZEN IN THE, UM, CITY LIMITS OF GARLAND SHOULD NOT REALLY SEE WHAT THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU IS DOING BECAUSE ALL OF OUR EFFORTS ARE OUTSIDE THE AREA, DRIVING PEOPLE IN, SO, UH, INTO THE COMMUNITY.

SO IF YOU FEEL LIKE, WOW, I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING THAT THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU IS DOING, THAT'S A GOOD THING BECAUSE THAT WE ARE NOT TRYING TO, UM, APPEAL TO PEOPLE THAT ARE LIVING HERE DIRECTLY.

SO WE DO ALSO IN THE MESSAGING OF POSITIONING, UM, UH, GARLAND.

WE ALSO WORK VERY, VERY CLOSELY WITH THE MAKE YOUR MARK CAMPAIGN, WHICH IS AN IMAGE CAMPAIGN FOR THE CITY.

AND THERE WE DO KIND OF CROSS OVER A LITTLE BIT MORE INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS, AND WE DO THAT PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PUBLIC MEDIA RELATIONS DEPARTMENT HERE AT THE CITY.

SO IN ORDER TO TRY TO DRIVE THOSE VISITORS, UM, GROUPS, TOURS, TOURNAMENTS INTO, UM, OUR CITY, WE KIND OF BREAK IT DOWN INTO, UM, THREE OVERARCHING AREAS.

WE DO SOME JUST OLD FASHIONED ADVERTISING.

WE DO A LOT OF TOURISM MAGAZINES.

WE CREATE QUITE A FEW PRINT PIECES.

WE PRODUCED A REALLY WONDERFUL SPORTS FACILITY GUIDE.

WE HAVE A WONDERFUL SPORTS FACILITY VIDEO, BOTH OF THOSE THINGS, UM, OUR FOCUSED ON MAINLY THE PARKS THAT WE HAVE HERE, BUT THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU VISIT GARLAND IS NOT TASKED WITH ONLY SELLING CITY OWNED FACILITIES.

SO WE ALSO ARE TALKING ABOUT THE AUDITORIUM.

WE BRING IN QUITE A FEW SWIM MEETS.

UM, WE WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER TO BRING IN SOME OF THOSE LARGER GROUPS BECAUSE WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO DRIVE HOTEL ROOMS AND NOT NECESSARILY SPECIFIC CITY OWNED FACILITIES.

SO THAT'S WHERE THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF DIFFERENCE.

UM, WE ALSO DO TONS OF DIGITAL MARKETING.

UM, OUR, I, I PRETTY MUCH FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO BE, YOU, YOU SHOULD FOLLOW US, UM, ON, UM, VISIT GARLANDS SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS BECAUSE WE'RE ALWAYS TELLING YOU SOMETHING SUPER FUN TO DO IN OUR CITY.

SO, UM, IF YOU'RE NOT FOLLOWING US, PLEASE DO.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU.

BUT, UH, WE'VE GOT A REALLY, REALLY STRONG MARKETING MANAGER IN OUR DEPARTMENT.

SHE'S, WELL, SHE'S GOT SOME OF THE BEST ACCOLADES ACROSS THE STATE IN TOURISM MARKETING.

HER NAME IS VERONICA MALDONADO, AND SHE LEADS THAT, UM, THAT CHARGE FOR US.

AND THEN WE ALSO DO JUST OUTRIGHT SALES.

WE GO TO TRADE SHOWS.

UM, WE GO TO A LOT OF SPORTS TOURNAMENT TRADE SHOWS, UH, THAT IS TALKING TO THOSE RIGHTS OWNERS ABOUT BRINGING THEIR TOURNAMENTS, UM, AND THINGS TO GARLAND.

BUT WE ALSO DO MEETING TRADE SHOWS.

WE ALSO BRING PEOPLE HERE.

WE JUST HAD, UM, A SITE VISIT FROM, FROM TWO GENTLEMEN FROM ENGLAND THAT CAME TO LOOK AT THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER FOR AN ESPORTS UM, TOURNAMENT.

SO WE WILL BRING IN VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE TO LOOK AT OUR CITY, SEE IF IT MATCHES THE NEEDS THAT THEY, UM, HAVE FOR THEIR PARTICULAR EVENT.

AND THEN WE TRY TO TALK 'EM INTO CHOOSING THIS OVER ANY OTHER CITY IN THE WORLD.

SO, UM, THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU IS, UH, FUNDED BY THE HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX.

SO WE DO NOT HIT THE GENERAL FUND.

SO WHEN YOU ARE, UH, CHECKING OUT OF THAT HOTEL AT ONE OF YOUR STAYS AND YOU THINK, WOW, THIS BUILDS A LITTLE BIT HIGHER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE, THAT'S FUNDING THAT TOURISM BUREAU FROM THAT PARTICULAR CITY THAT YOU'RE STAYING IN.

SO WE ARE SOLELY FUNDED BY THE HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX.

UM, SO IN A LOT OF WAYS OUR INTERNAL CUSTOMERS ARE THE HOTEL YEARS THAT ARE LOCATED HERE IN OUR CITY LIMITS.

HERE'S JUST A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES OF SOME OF THE, UM,

[00:10:01]

UM, DIGITAL AND PRINT, UM, AND, AND JUST, YOU KNOW, MESSAGING THAT WE HAVE PUT OUT THERE, UM, IN THE RECENT, YOU KNOW, SIX MONTHS OR SO.

SO, ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL ABOUT WHAT THE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU DOES? WE REALLY LIKE TO GET AWAY FROM THE WORDS CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU.

THE WORLD WANTS US TO GET AWAY.

UH, THE, THE INDUSTRY REALLY WANTS US TO BE CONSIDERED A DESTINATION MARKETING ORGANIZATION, UM, WHERE WE'RE REALLY MARKETING THE CITY, UM, VERSUS, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW, CONVENTION OF VISITORS BUREAU SOUNDS KIND OF SCARY, BUT, UH, SO, UM, WE REALLY TRY TO GO BY VISIT GARLAND VERSUS CONVENTION OF VISITORS BUREAU.

BUT IF ANYBODY HA.

DOESN'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT, I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

SURE.

WHAT'S, UM, CURRENTLY, WHAT'S THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE YOU GUYS ARE SEEING, UM, OR OBJECTIONS THAT YOU GUYS ARE EXPERIENCING FOR SOME OF THE GROUPS THAT ARE LOOKING AT THE CITY COMPARED TO OTHERS? UH, THE SIZE OF OUR HOTELS, 100%.

SO OUR LARGEST HOTEL, UM, HAS ABOUT 150 ROOMS AND ABOUT 12,000 SQUARE FEET.

AND THAT MAKES US, UM, NOT NOT VERY COMPETITIVE FOR A GROUP, UH, OF ABOUT 250 OR GREATER.

UH, IT WOULD BE VERY HARD FOR US TO BOOK SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

UM, NOW OF COURSE, THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER CAN DO SOMETHING THAT CAN HOLD 7,000 PEOPLE.

UM, BUT THOSE HOTELS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM IT CAN HOUSE ABOUT 300.

THE TOTAL OF THOSE THREE ROOMS THAT ARE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER, UM, CAN HOLD ABOUT 325 PEOPLE.

SO IF THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER IS, UM, OR 325 ROOMS, SO IF THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER HAS A GROUP OF 7,000 PEOPLE, THE OTHER 6,000 PEOPLE ARE PUSHING DOWN TO RICHARDSON, THEY'RE NOT PUSHING DOWN TO OTHER GARLAND HOTELS.

SO, GOOD QUESTION.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF, UM, A VIDEO THAT, THAT YOU WOULD USE AS A PRESENTATION, AS A, AS OPPOSED TO JUST THE, THESE STILLS? YEAH.

AND, AND THEN THE OTHER THING IS IN, IN THINKING ABOUT THE SENIOR COMMUNITY, WHICH IT'S REAL EASY FOR ME TO THINK ABOUT THAT GROUP.

UH, SO MANY OF US DON'T REALLY USE THE, UM, THE INTERNET FOR OUR, FOR OUR INFORMATION.

AND I JUST, I WAS JUST WONDERING CAUSE I I'VE BEEN IN GARLAND SINCE 1949 AND STILL 95% OF THE STUFF GOES ON I DON'T KNOW ABOUT.

SO YEAH, HOW, WHAT, WHAT CAN WE DO TO BETTER THAN, I KNOW YOUR, YOUR MARKET IS NOT US, BUT IF, WHAT I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO DO IS, IS TO TRY AND SELL GARLAND MYSELF, I WAS A HOME BUILDER HERE IN GARLAND.

WE DO HAVE SOME PRINT PIECES.

WE HAVE A VISITOR GUIDE THAT'S A PRINT PIECE.

UM, WE, UM, ALSO, WE'RE VERY ENGAGED WITH THE STATE TOURISM, UM, THE, THE STATE'S TOURISM DEPARTMENT.

AND IF ANYBODY FROM OUTSIDE, UM, WANTS BROCHURES FROM ANY CITY IN THE STATE, THEY, UH, CAN EASILY CONTACT THE, UM, THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS THAT THEY CAN CONTACT THE STATE.

BUT, UH, REGARDLESS OF THAT, WE MAIL OUT PRINT TO, TO THOSE FOLKS IF THEY'VE CONTACTED THE STATE LEVEL.

BUT FOR SOMEBODY HERE THAT JUST WANTS TO KIND OF KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE EVENTS CALENDAR, IT IS SUCH A FLUID EVENTS CALENDAR.

THERE IS STUFF ADDED TO IT EVERY DAY THAT IT IS TRULY ONLINE.

UM, IT WOULD BE AN IMPOSSIBILITY TO PRINT THE EVENTS, UM, CALENDAR BECAUSE, UM, WE ENCOURAGE EVERY CITIZEN THAT'S HOLDING A PUBLIC EVENT IN GARLAND TO ADD THEIR EVENT TO THE, TO OUR EVENTS CALENDAR.

SO IT HAS LOTS OF THINGS ON IT THAT ARE NOT PRODUCED BY THE CITY.

UM, BECAUSE WE JUST WANT FOLKS TO KNOW ABOUT ALL THE FUN THINGS THAT THERE ARE TO DO OUT THERE.

SO THERE'S LOTS OF THINGS ADDED TO THE CALENDAR THAT, YOU KNOW, IT GETS ADDED ON A DAILY BASIS.

AND, UM, AND WHERE WOULD THE PEOPLE, WHERE WOULD THE PEOPLE THAT NORMALLY WOULDN'T BE LOOKING FOR THOSE THINGS KNOW TO BE LOOKING FOR THEM TO ADD THEM TO THE CALENDAR? SO, UM, WE, WE TRY TO GET THAT MESSAGING OUT THERE, BUT WE ACTUALLY HAVE AN AD IN THE NEXT CITY PRESS A PRINT PIECE ABOUT THE EVENTS CALENDAR.

SO WH WHERE YOU CAN GO TO, TO FIND IT, IT IS IN THE VISIT GARLAND WEBSITE.

THAT EVENTS CALENDAR IS.

SO, UM, WE ARE TRYING TO APPROACH IT FROM THE PRINT SIDE AS WELL, LETTING PEOPLE KNOW WHERE THEY CAN FIND THAT.

BUT

[00:15:01]

YOU DON'T HAVE, YOU DON'T HAVE THIS, THIS BE THE LAST ONE, I HOPE FOR YOU.

MM-HMM.

, UM, YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING, YOU DIDN'T GET ME EXCITED ABOUT ANYTHING IN WHAT YOU'VE PRESENTED SO FAR? .

OKAY.

I'M SORRY.

I'M SORRY.

I'M, AND I'M JUST, THERE'S A DIFFERE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TELLING YOU WHAT THERE IS TO DO IN GARLAND AND TELLING YOU WHAT MY DEPARTMENT DOES.

AND TONIGHT MY JOB WAS TO TELL YOU WHAT MY DEPARTMENT DOES MM-HMM.

AND NOT SELL YOU ON, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE'RE OUT THERE AT A TRADE SHOW TELLING PEOPLE ALL THE, YOU KNOW, WHAT WE CAN HAVE TO OFFER.

I MEAN, NORMALLY WE'RE, WHEN WE'RE VISITING WITH SOMEBODY THAT WE'RE TRYING TO TALK INTO, COMING TO GARLAND, WE LISTEN FIRST.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? WHAT ARE YOUR NEEDS? DO WE HAVE THAT? AND WHERE WE GET THEM EXCITED IS WE, WE CAN PROVIDE THAT.

WE CAN PROVIDE, UM, YOU KNOW, FANTASTIC SOCCER FIELDS OR WE CAN PROVIDE THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE 7,000 PEOPLE.

SO MOST OF THE TIME, PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING TO COME TO A CITY, THE EVENT ORGANIZERS, THEY NEED TO CHECK THOSE BOXES.

CAN YOU SUPPLY, CAN YOU PROVIDE THIS? CAN YOU PROVIDE THAT? THEN WE START ADDING SOME EXCITING THINGS LIKE POTENTIALLY, YOU KNOW, SOME INCENTIVE FUNDS.

UM, WE MAY PROVIDE A LOT OF V I P, UM, AMENITIES.

SO THAT'S WHERE WE CAN KIND OF LIKE CHANGE FROM WHAT THEY WOULD GET FROM ANOTHER CITY TO WHAT WE HAVE.

BUT THE BASE, THE BASIS OF WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO TALK SOMEBODY INTO IT, IF WE DON'T HAVE THE VENUE TO HOUSE THEM, DOESN'T REALLY, YOU KNOW, DOESN'T THAT, THAT'S OUR FIRST STEP.

DO WE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO, TO ACTUALLY HOST THEM HERE? AND, OKAY, I'LL MAKE THIS A SENTENCE.

THIS WON'T BE A QUESTION, JUST BE A STATEMENT.

UM, I WAS A HOME BUILDER HERE IN GARLAND FOR 45 YEARS, AND THE FIRST THING YOU KNOW IS THE FIRST, THE FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT IMPRESSION.

AND TRYING TO BUILD THE LARGER HOMES IN GARLAND, SOMETIMES I NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION BECAUSE THEIR FIRST IMPRESSION WAS MADE SOMEPLACE ELSE.

AND I'M JUST WONDERING IF YOU'RE COMPETING AGAINST OTHER CITIES THAT ARE PRODUCING A, A VIDEO THAT, THAT, THAT GETS YOU THROUGH THE FIRST STEP.

IF YOU DON'T GET 'EM IN THE DOOR, YOU DON'T GET A CHANCE TO SELL 'EM.

SO WE, WE HAVE ABOUT, OH, IF YOU'RE NOT ON DIGITAL, IT MAY NOT BE EASY FREE TO SEE THEM, BUT WE PROBABLY HAVE ABOUT 30 VIDEOS THAT WE'VE PRODUCED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND WE LOOP THEM AT THE TRADE SHOWS THAT WE'RE AT.

WE GET A BIG GIANT SCREEN ON THE BACKSIDE OF OUR TRADE SHOW BOOTH, AND WE JUST START LOOPING THEM.

SO WE HAVE EVERYTHING.

WE HAVE A WONDERFUL, CUTE SERIES CALLED VERONICA ON THE GO.

UM, SHE GOES ALL AROUND TOWN AND, UM, SHOWS ALL THE AMENITIES AND FUN THINGS THAT THERE ARE TO DO IN OUR, IN OUR CITY.

WE HAVE THE SPORTS, UM, FACILITY GUIDE VIDEO, WHICH IS REALLY FABULOUS.

UM, AND WE JUST, WE JUST HAVE ONE AFTER ANOTHER AFTER ANOTHER.

WE, WE HAVE 'EM FOR, FOR ALL KINDS OF THINGS THAT WE'RE, THAT WE'RE DOING IN THE CITY.

A LOT OF EVENT DRIVEN VIDEOS AS WELL.

THANK YOU.

SO YOU'RE VERY WELCOME.

YOU HAVE 'EM.

I, I HAD TO WORK A LONG WAY TO GET IT, GET INTO .

SO MAYBE PEOPLE THAT ARE LOOKING GARLAND HOW TO DO THE SAME THING.

SO HE TOLD YOU THAT WAS THE LAST QUESTION FOUR TIMES .

I DO HAVE, I DO HAVE, I DO HAVE ONE, ONE.

I HAVE ONE OTHER QUESTION.

UM, SO, SO CLEARLY, UM, RICHARDSON, UM, RECEIVES A LOT OF BENEFIT FROM YOUR WORK AND YOUR EFFORT FROM, UM, FROM OCCUPANCY TAX, FROM OVERFLOW.

UM, ARE THERE ANY CO-MARKETING INITIATIVES THAT YOU GUYS DO WITH THEIR CVB OR THEIR MARKETING DEPARTMENT? SO, YES, WE WILL VISIT WITH THEM WHEN THERE ARE THOSE LARGER EVENTS AT THE CURTIS CALLWELL CENTER AND ASK THEM TO POTENTIALLY COME WITH SOME IN HELP US WITH THE INCENTIVE FUNDS.

UM, THAT E-BLAST GROUP THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW IS, IS GONNA BE, UH, COSTLY FOR US TO BRING IN.

UM, WE DEFINITELY LOOK AT THE ROI AND MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SPENDING THE FUNDS AS WISELY AS POSSIBLE.

UM, BUT THAT WILL BE SOMETHING THAT WE WILL PARTNER WITH THEM ON FOR SURE.

AND WE ALSO PARTNER WITH DALLAS FOR, THEY'VE GOT THE WORLD CUP COMING.

UM, WE ALSO, TEXAS IS ONE OF THE MOST UNUSUAL STATES AS FAR AS TOURISM IS CONCERNED VERSUS MOST OTHER STATES BECAUSE WE PARTNER TOGETHER ON ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

LIKE, LIKE PLANNERS WILL GO, WOW, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GUYS DON'T CONSIDER EACH OTHER COMPETITION, BUT WE GO TO A LOT OF WHAT ARE CONSIDERED TEAM TEXAS TRADE SHOWS.

AND WE ALL 20 OF US WILL ALL BE IN ONE GIANT BOOTH TALKING ABOUT TEXAS.

SO YOU KIND OF HAVE TO START AT THAT HIGHER LEVEL, BRING 'EM TO TEXAS, AND THEN BRING 'EM TO YOUR METROPLEX

[00:20:01]

AND THEN BRING 'EM TO YOUR CITY.

UM, SO WE PARTNER WITH ALL OF THEM ALL THE TIME.

WE HAVE REALLY CLOSE RELATIONS.

ANOTHER GREAT, AN, ANOTHER GREAT QUESTION.

SO, OKAY.

SO THE SECOND DEPARTMENT THAT IS, UM, UNDER, UM, MY DIRECTION IS THE SPECIAL EVENTS DEPARTMENT.

THIS IS A CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY, UH, BUSY DEPARTMENT.

UM, THEY ARE FUNDED OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND, UM, AND, UM, THEY, I, I HAVE TWO ROCKING, UM, ASSISTANTS THAT HELP US MAKE ALL OF THIS COME TO FRUITION.

UM, SO THE CITY PRODUCE SAYS, UM, SIX SOUNDS OF SUMMER CONCERTS, UM, A CELEBRATION CALLED BIG ART DAY.

WE DO THAT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CULTURAL ARTS DEPARTMENT.

UM, WE STARTED LAST YEAR FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME PRODUCING THE JUNETEENTH, UM, A CELEBRATION.

IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS.

UM, WE ALSO DO THE FUN, UM, TONGUE IN CHEEK, UH, GUZZLER RACE AND, UH, FOLLOWED UP WITH AN OCTOBERFEST, UM, PARTY AFTERWARDS.

UM, WE HAVE DIA COMING UP ON NOVEMBER 1ST, AND THEN CHRISTMAS, UH, THIS YEAR WILL BE AT FIRE WILL AGAIN.

SO THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT WE PRODUCE OURSELVES.

WE ALSO ARE CO-SPONSORING THE MLK PARADE, THE CINCO FESTIVAL, THE DFW ASIAN SOCCER LABOR DAY PARADE AND WILLS OF HOPE.

WE ALSO WILL BE HANDLING GPN L'S HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION NEXT YEAR.

THAT WILL BE IN APRIL.

IT WILL BE A PRETTY BIG, UM, DAY LONG FESTIVAL EVENT.

UM, SO LIKE I SAID, THIS IS, UH, ONE OF THE DEPARTMENTS THAT, UM, IS NEVER SITTING IDLE.

THEY ALSO, UM, ASSIST EVERY MONTH WITH URBAN MARKET.

THEY ALSO HELP WITH EVERY SINGLE GROUNDBREAKING AND RIBBON CUTTING THAT HAPPENS, UM, ACROSS THE CITY.

AND AS YOU GUYS KNOW RIGHT NOW, THERE'S LOTS OF THOSE, WHICH IS SUCH A GREAT THING FOR OUR CITY.

UH, WE ALSO ASSIST WITH THE STAR SPANGLED SPECTACULAR.

AND THEN WE ALSO HELP THE OUTSIDE COMMUNITY WITH THEIR OWN EVENTS.

SO WE ARE LIKE THE FIRST STOP FOR THE PERMITTING PROCESS AND WE HANDLE ABOUT A HUNDRED OF THOSE A YEAR.

SO IF ANYBODY WANTS TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE SPECIAL EVENTS DEPARTMENT, , UH, NO, IT REALLY DOES TAKE A VILLAGE.

AND, UM, LUCKILY WE ARE IN THE PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT BECAUSE, UM, WE COULDN'T DO ANY OF THESE EVENTS WITHOUT OUR REC DEPARTMENT BRINGING, UM, FOLKS OUT TO HELP DO THE BOUNCE HOUSES AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT HAPPEN AT THE FESTIVALS.

AND THEN MATT'S PARKS OPERATION, UH, HELPS US IMMENSELY WITH ALL THE LABOR THAT HAPPENS AT ALL OF THESE EVENTS.

IT'S JUST LITERALLY, THIS IS A TWO PERSON DEPARTMENT, SO THERE'S JUST NO WAY THAT THEY COULD DO IT WITHOUT, UM, THESE OTHER, UM, DEPARTMENTS WITHIN PARKS AND REC HELPING US.

SO REALLY, REALLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE THEM.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THEY FIXED THIS SLIDE UP SO FANCY FOR ME THAT IT HAD, UH, MULTIPLE, UM, PICTURES ON IT.

AND THEN THE THIRD DEPARTMENT THAT I OVERSEE IS THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT OFFICE.

AND THAT, UM, OFFICE IS FUNDED OUT OF THE TIF.

SO I HAVE THREE DIFFERENT BUDGETS THAT I OVERSEE.

UM, AND THE MISSION FOR THAT OFFICE IS REALLY THE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF THE BUSINESSES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA.

UH, RIGHT NOW THEIR HANDS ARE FULL.

MAKING SURE THAT THE BUSINESS OWNERS ARE GETTING COMMUNICATED TO IN A VERY REGULAR BASIS ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION, WHEN IT'S GONNA BE AT THEIR DOORSTEP, HOW LONG THEY CAN EXPECT IT TO BE AT THEIR DOORSTEP.

OF COURSE, RIGHTLY SO.

THE BUSINESS OWNERS ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THAT THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT.

AND SO WE TRY TO KEEP THAT COMMUNICATION LINE GOING ON A VERY, VERY REGULAR BASIS.

WE ALSO, WERE HEAVILY INVOLVED IN WHAT WE CONSIDER CONSTRUCTION SURVIVAL RIGHT NOW, TRYING TO ACTIVATE THE DOWNTOWN AREA AS MUCH AS WE POSSIBLY CAN, UH, TO KEEP, UM, PEOPLE MOVING ABOUT THE BUSINESSES.

SO IF YOU GUYS HAVEN'T HEARD, WE DID 22, UM, CONCERTS STARTING IN MAY, SMALL CONCERTS ON FRIDAY NIGHT CALLED BAND TOGETHER.

UM, AND, UH, DID THOSE, UH, KIND OF SMALLER SCALE THAN THOSE LARGE SOUNDS OF SUMMER

[00:25:01]

CONCERTS THAT THE SPECIAL EVENTS DEPARTMENT PRODUCED.

BUT TRYING TO DRIVE THOSE PEOPLE TO COME DOWN, HAVE DINNER, THEN GO OVER AND, AND WATCH THE LIVE MUSIC, IT WAS VERY, VERY SUCCESSFUL.

OUR LAST ONE WAS LAST WEEK, I BELIEVE, UH, IT STARTS ALL RUNNING TOGETHER, BUT THE LAST FRIDAY AND SEPTEMBER.

UM, SO THAT WAS ADDED TO THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT OFFICES TASK LIST THIS YEAR.

UM, THEY ALSO DO A MONTHLY EVENT CALLED THIRSTY THIRD THURSDAY.

AGAIN, THEY'RE KEEPING THOSE STORES OPEN LATE ON THOSE PARTICULAR NIGHTS.

UM, THE BUSINESSES ARE SERVING FREE BEVERAGES, TRYING TO DRIVE THAT TRAFFIC.

UM, AND THEY DO SEVERAL OTHER, UM, EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

BUT, UH, THEY'RE REALLY KEEPING THE EYE ON BUSINESSES THAT, UH, BUILDINGS THAT MAY BECOME VACANT, HOW THEY CAN HELP PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A SPOT IN A DOWNTOWN AREA, CONNECTING THOSE, UH, POTENTIAL TENANTS WITH THE APPROPRIATE PROPERTY OWNERS.

SO THEY'RE REALLY AN ED, UM, SOURCE, BUT ON THAT SMALLER SCALE, UM, DOWNTOWN AREA TYPE OF ENVIRONMENT.

AND THAT IS MY PRESENTATION FOR THIS EVENING.

, ANY QUESTIONS? YES.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR GREATEST NEED IS A MARRIOTT.

YEAH, AB I WOULD LOVE A MARRIOTT OR A CONVENTION HOTEL.

OR A CONVENTION HOTEL.

YEAH, THAT'D BE.

I I DO HAVE ONE OTHER QUESTION.

UM, SO YOUR DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT, UM, IS THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO ARE WORKING, UM, DO THEY, DO THEY CO-CHAIR RESPONSIBILITIES WITH ANY OF YOUR OTHER DEPARTMENTS OR ARE THEY KIND OF INDEPENDENTLY FOCUSED ON THAT TASK? SO, UM, AT THE GUZZLER, ALL THREE DEPARTMENTS, EVERY SINGLE PERSON FROM ALL THREE DEPARTMENTS WERE THERE.

SO WE REALLY TRY NOT TO HAVE ANY SILOS WHATSOEVER BETWEEN THE THREE DEPARTMENTS AND ACTUALLY ALL OF PARKS AND REC.

THAT'S, UM, JUST REALLY ANDY'S PHILOSOPHY AND CITY LEADERSHIP.

HERE'S PHILOSOPHY.

SO IT'S REALLY A ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE.

BUT, UM, OF THOSE THREE DEPARTMENTS THAT I PRESENTED, THERE'S TWO EMPLOYEES FOR VISIT GARLAND.

TWO EMPLOYEES FOR SPECIAL EVENTS AND TWO EMPLOYEES FOR DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT.

BUT THEY, IT MAKES SENSE THAT WE'RE ALL UNDER ONE ROOF CUZ THEY REALLY DO, UH, RELATE TO EACH OTHER AND WE ALL TRY TO HELP EACH OTHER WITH, WITH EACH TASK THAT'S HAPPENING REAL EASY.

WHERE DO Y'ALL OFFICE? UH, RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, UH, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DUCKWORTH BUILDING.

WE HAVE A SEPARATE ENTRANCE THOUGH.

I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

DO UM, LIKE VRBO AND, UM, AIRBNB CONTRIBUTE TO THE HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX AS WELL? SO THE ONLY ONE THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE A CONTRACT WITH IS AIRBNB AND WE DO COLLECT FROM THEM.

WE ALSO HAVE A SHORT TERM RENTAL SOFTWARE PER SE, THAT CAN IDENTIFY SOME OTHER SHORT TERM RENTALS THAT MAY NOT BE SO FORTHCOMING.

AND THAT HAS HELPED US INCREASE, UH, SHORT TERM RENTAL OCCUPANCY COLLECTION.

GREAT QUESTION.

, YOU MUST HAVE SOME BACKGROUND.

.

I HAD A QUESTION ON, UH, SOCIAL MEDIA.

SO, SO I KNOW AS YOU KNOW, THE POPULATION GETS YOUNGER, YOU KNOW, AND PEOPLE COME OF AGE.

SOME OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION USES DIFFERENT, YOU KNOW, SOCIAL MEDIA THINGS LIKE TIKTOK AND SNAPCHAT HAVE, HAVE YOU LOOKED INTO, YOU KNOW, MAYBE PUTTING UP A PRESENCE ON THOSE? WE HAVE.

UM, I WILL TELL YOU, OUR MARKETING MANAGER SPENDS, UH, SPENDS EVERY WEEK LEARNING SOMETHING NEW IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD BECAUSE IT CHANGES SO QUICKLY.

UM, AND THINGS THAT WE CAN INCORPORATE THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, LIKE REALS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, UH, SHE STARTS INCORPORATING PRETTY QUICKLY.

UM, SO IF, IF SHE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN, IF IT'S THE WAY OF THE WORLD ON WHERE WE NEED TO BE, THEN, THEN SHE USUALLY FINDS A WAY.

SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF PERMISSION, BUT YEAH, , BUT NO, WE, WE TRY TO STAY ON TOP OF THAT.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? WHAT DID YOU SAY THE, THE BEST WAY WAS TO FOLLOW GARLAND? SO VISIT GARLAND, UM, HAS A FACEBOOK PAGE AND YOU CAN FOLLOW THAT.

AND THEN ON THE VISIT GARLAND WEBSITE IS THE EVENTS CALENDAR, AND WE ALSO HAVE AN APP AS WELL.

IS THAT A, THAT WIDGET? YOU? UH, YES.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS INTERESTING CUZ I, WE WERE OUT THERE AND THEY'RE TAKING ALL THOSE LITTLE DOCKS AWAY THAT IN THE

[00:30:01]

BACK OF THE PICTURE THAT I WAS LOOKING UP, THAT WAS ON THERE.

SO, UM, IT, THE WIDGET WILL, UM, I GUESS REMIND YOU OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IF THERE'S AN EVENT THAT'S ON THERE, IS THAT HOW THAT WORKS? YOU CAN GET A PUSH NOTIFICATION THAT, HEY, THIS EVENT IS HAPPENING TOMORROW.

THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.

SO IF YOU'RE ON THE APP, YOU CAN GET THAT.

BUT REALLY THE BEST THING IS TO FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK CUZ WE'RE REALLY, THAT'S WHERE WE'RE TELLING THE STORY OF ALL THE, YOU KNOW, UPCOMING THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING.

OKAY.

I LIKE THAT.

IS THERE A WAY TO FOLLOW IT? YEAH, IT SHOULD BE A BUTTON TO LIKE IT OR TO FOLLOW IT, OR BOTH? IS THAT THE SAME THING? LIKING AND FOLLOWING? MM-HMM.

.

OKAY.

SO I'LL JUST GIVE, I'VE GIVE A QUICK SHOUT OUT TO, TO DANA AND HER STAFF TOO, BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE A, THEY'RE A SMALL BUT MIGHTY ARMY THAT, THAT DOES A WHOLE BUNCH.

AND IF YOU DIDN'T GET TO COME OUT TO ONE OF OUR CONCERTS THIS YEAR, OR GO TO ONE OF THE BAND TOGETHERS OR, OR COME OUT TO JUNETEENTH, THE, UM, I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE VERY LONG, BUT I KNOW THE AMOUNT OF SPECIAL EVENTS IS INCREASED AND THE SCOPE AND BREADTH OF WHICH OUR SPECIAL EVENTS IS INCREASED AND WE ALL, UH, KNOW ANDY, SO I DON'T SEE IT GOING THE OTHER DIRECTION.

IT'S ONLY GONNA GET BIGGER AND BETTER .

UM, AS, AS WELL IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, JARED, TO YOUR POINT, WE WANNA BRING MORE PEOPLE HERE AND WE WANNA PUT THAT FOOT FORWARD.

AND BY DOING THAT, WE WANT TO HAVE THE BEST IN THE BEST CONCERT SERIES, THE BEST SPECIAL EVENTS, EVERYTHING, UH, TO BRING PEOPLE TO, TO HERE, TO GARLAND.

AND, AND IT REALLY IS A, A GREAT TEAM AND WE ALL WORK REALLY, REALLY WELL TOGETHER.

AND, UM, DAN AND HER TEAM ARE, ARE REALLY AWESOME.

SO JUST WANTED GIVE YOU THAT SHOUT OUT.

YEAH.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME THIS EVENING.

THANKS FOR COMING.

ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU DANA.

AND WE GOT GRANDVILLE CULTURAL ARTS.

YEAH.

AND SO OUR NEWEST DIRECTOR AND I, I FAILED TO, I APOLOGIZE DANA, I DIDN'T INTRODUCE YOU, BUT, UM, UH, OUR NEWEST DIRECTOR IS AMY ROSENTHAL AND SHE'S OUR CULTURAL ARTS DIRECTOR.

UH, AND SHE COMES TO US FROM THE CITY OF MCKINNEY.

AND SO YOU ALL KNOW, PROBABLY YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THEIR SQUARE, SO WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE AND VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HER HERE IN GARLAND AND BRANDING THAT EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE WITH HER.

AND SHE'S GONNA TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR ARTS DEPARTMENT.

SURE.

WELL, WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

ACTUALLY, I KIND OF FEEL LIKE I'M THE LUCKY ONE.

UM, I WAS SO EXCITED TO, TO COME TO GARLAND.

THERE IS SO MUCH THAT'S HAPPENING HERE.

I MEAN, IT IS AN AMAZING TIME TO BE IN THE CITY OF GARLAND.

AND AS YOU, YOU HEARD TOO, THIS IS A SUPER AWESOME TEAM.

ANDY REALLY DOES, UH, WORK VERY HARD TO GET US WORKING TOGETHER A REALLY CREATIVE, TALENTED GROUP OF PEOPLE.

SO I I'M VERY EXCITED TO BE HERE, AND YOU'RE GONNA GET TO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF A SNEAK PEAK OF OUR COUNCIL PRESENTATION FOR MONDAY NIGHT.

SO DON'T TELL YOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS THAT YOU GOT TO SEE THIS BEFORE THEM.

UM, BUT, UH, ANYWAY, BUT I, I THOUGHT A LOT OF THIS INFORMATION WOULD YOU, YOU GUYS WOULD FIND INTERESTING AS WELL TOO.

SO, UM, AS YOU KNOW, UH, LAST SUMMER IN JUNE, THE COUNCIL PASSED AN APPROVED, UH, CULTURAL ARTS PLAN.

IT'S A REALLY INCREDIBLE DOCUMENT.

I KNOW MANY OF YOU IN THIS ROOM, UH, PARTICIPATED BY PROVIDING FEEDBACK.

UM, IT'S ACTUALLY ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY ATTRACTED ME TO THE CITY OF GARLAND.

IT'S A, AN AMAZING PLAN, AND WE'VE GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO.

THERE WERE SIX GOALS THAT WERE ESTABLISHED WITH THIS PLAN.

UM, PROVIDING EXPERIENCES IN NEIGHBORHOODS IN DOWNTOWN FOR RESIDENTS AND FOR VI VISITORS, MAKING SURE THAT THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE CELEBRATING AND SUPPORTING DIVERSITY AND HERITAGE.

UH, SUPPORTING AND ATTRACTING ARTISTS AND CREATIVES, UH, COLLABORATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS.

AND THEN TO MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE, UH, OPTIMIZING OUR MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS.

SO I'M JUST GONNA GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF AN OVERVIEW ABOUT OUR ARTS COMMISSION, UM, ABOUT OUR DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS OR OUR DIFFERENT FACILITIES, OUR OUR DIFFERENT CULTURAL ARTS FACILITIES, UM, THE CULTURAL PLAN, AND JUST SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON, UH, NOW IN, IN, IN THE INTERMEDIATE INTO THE FUTURE.

SO, UH, THE GARLAND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION, THAT'S A NINE MEMBER, UH, COUNCIL APPOINTED BOARD.

UM, AND THEY ALSO HAVE A 5 0 1 C THREE, UH, THAT IS SEPARATE FROM THE CITY.

AND SO THE, THE 5 0 1 C THREE IS FUNDED THROUGH THE HOT TAXES.

THAT'S JUST WHAT, UH, DANA WAS, WAS SHARING ABOUT.

THERE'S 15% OF THE HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAXES THAT'S ALLOCATED TO THE ARTS COMMISSION.

UM, ACTUALLY AT THE STATE LEVEL, YOU CAN USE A PERCENTAGE FOR ARTS PROGRAMMING AND FOR HISTORICAL TYPES OF ENDEAVORS.

AND SO THIS COMMISSION MEETS FOUR TIMES A YEAR.

THEY'RE TRYING TO MEET EVERY OTHER MONTH.

UM, BUT THEIR BIGGEST FOCUS, AND HERE'S A GREAT FIELD TRIP, WE WENT ON THIS, UH, FIELD TRIP TO, UH, UH, TO DALLAS AND THEN

[00:35:01]

TO, UH, TO THE GOLDMARK CULTURAL ARTS CENTER, AND THEN DOWN TO THE CEDARS.

YOU CAN SEE ANDY THERE.

HE'S, HE'S THERE.

AND SO IS LATISHA FROM DOWNTOWN.

UM, DANA WAS, I THINK SHE WAS ON VACATION THAT WEEK.

THE SO, BUT A LOT OF FUN.

SO, UH, BUT ONE OF THE, THE PRIMARY, UH, RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION IS TO, UH, ALLOCATE SUB-GRANTS TO OUR DIFFERENT LOCAL ART AGENCIES.

UM, SO THIS YEAR WE ARE PROJECTED TO THE, THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION IS PROJECTED TO RECEIVE $187,000 FROM, FROM THE HOT FUNDS.

AND THEY'RE ALLOCATING ABOUT 140 OF THOUSAND, UH, FOR GRANTS.

AND ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT'S ON COUNCIL'S MIND RIGHT NOW IS HOW ARE WE, UH, PROVIDING SOME NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO BRING, UM, NEW GROUPS TO GARLAND TO PERFORM? HOW ARE WE REACHING OUT TO BRING IN NEW AUDIENCES? SO YOU CAN SEE HERE, UH, JUST IN 20 20, 20 21, AND IN 2022, UM, WE, WE DID INCREASE THE NUMBER OF APPLICANTS FOR OUR GRANTS.

UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'LL TALK ABOUT WITH COUNCIL IS JUST KIND OF REFINING THE, THE CRITERIA FOR THE, UH, GRANTS FOR THE AGENCIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR OUR GRANT.

SOME, RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE TO BE A 5 0 1 C THREE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ARTS COMMISSION DOLLARS.

AND SOMETIMES I'VE, I'VE HEARD THAT THAT MIGHT BE A BARRIER.

AND SO WE ARE DEEP IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR GRANT CYCLE.

UH, THIS COMMISSION, THIS, THESE COMMISSIONERS, THEY'RE, THEY'RE VERY DEDICATED.

THEY SPENT HOURS REVIEWING APPLICATIONS.

WE WERE AROUND FOR THREE HOURS LAST NIGHT DEBATING HOW THE, THE DOLLARS WERE GONNA BE ALLOCATED.

UM, SNEAK YOU'LL SEE THAT NEXT WEEK, YOU'LL SEE HOW THE, THE FUNDING ALL WORKS OUT.

BUT THAT'S JUST AN OVERVIEW OF HOW THEIR PROCESS LOOKS.

AND WE'RE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

UM, THIS IS THE PROPOSED BUDGET FOR THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION FOR NEXT YEAR.

UM, AGAIN, YOU KNOW, 140,000 OF THAT GOES TOWARDS THE GRANTS THEMSELVES.

UH, THERE IS A PERCENTAGE OF THEIR, UM, BUDGET THAT'S ALLOCATED FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE SCULPTURE PIECE, THE VISION OF THE ARTS, WHICH IS IN FRONT OF THE GRANDVILLE ARTS CENTER.

UM, AND THEN THERE'S SOME PROMOTIONS, BIG ART DAY, UH, SOME MONEY RESERVED THERE.

UM, AND JUST SOME MISCELLANEOUS, UH, FEES.

WE ALSO, UH, THE ARTS COMMISSION IS REALLY INVOLVED WITH THE, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN TERMS OF, UM, THEIR FINE ARTS PROGRAM.

SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THE COMMISSION IS THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW, UM, YOU KNOW, UH, SOME OF OUR COMMISSIONERS HAVE THE, THE COMMISSION IS FEELING THE NEED TO KIND OF GROW AND CHANGE AND, AND UPDATE THEIR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

UM, THEY'RE TRYING TO THINK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SUCCESSION PLANNING, UM, WHICH IS, WE'VE HAD SOME COMMISSIONERS THERE FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS.

SO IT'S TIME TO THINK TOO, ABOUT HOW CAN WE TRAIN THIS, THIS NEXT, UH, GENERATION OF COMMISSIONERS.

ONE OF THEIR INITIATIVES WILL BE A POP-UP JURIED SHOW THAT WILL BE IN EACH DISTRICT, SO COMING SOON THIS SPRING.

AND THAT ADDRESSES ONE OF THE CULTURAL PLAN GOALS RIGHT THERE.

UM, AND SO NOW WE'RE GONNA TAKE A LOOK JUST AT OUR FACILITIES.

SO THE GRANDVILLE, THE PLAZA, AND THE ATRIUM PRIMARILY ARE RENTAL FACILITIES.

UM, YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES WE GET QUESTIONS ABOUT, YOU KNOW, CERTAIN PROGRAMS AT OUR FACILITIES, BUT THEY'RE PRIMARILY RENTAL FACILITIES.

UM, AND SO OUR BROWN LEE, UH, AUDITORIUM, 720 SEATS.

WE HAVE, UH, A FEW PRIMARY USERS.

IT'S THE, UH, GARLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.

THEY HAVE A CONCERT ON OCTOBER 14TH, SO PLEASE COME TO THEIR, UH, CONCERT ON OCTOBER 14TH.

THE SUMMER MUSICALS, UH, DALLAS BALLET IS A VERY POPULAR, THEY HAVE AN ANNUAL NUTCRACKER THAT SELLS OUT.

THE TICKETS GO ON SALE SOON.

SO IF YOU WANT TICKETS FOR THE NUTCRACKER, PLEASE UH, MARK YOUR COUNT CALENDARS.

UM, WE ALSO WORK WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR U I AND THEN THERE'S A LOT OF PRIVATE RENTALS.

I MEAN, THERE IS SOMETHING THAT'S HAPPENING AT THE GRANDVILLE ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND.

NOW, NOT ALL OF THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, BUT WE HAVE LOTS OF, UM, AARON RIMS, WHICH ARE, IT'S A DANCE, UM, FROM A EAST INDIAN, FROM THE EAST INDIAN CULTURE.

IT'S KIND OF A RITUAL DANCE, UH, REALLY COOL STUFF HAPPENING.

THEN WE ALSO HAVE OUR SMALL THEATER AND THE SMALL THEATER'S, 220 SEATS.

UM, AND THE PRIMARY USER OF THE SMALL THEATER IS THE GARLAND CIVIC THEATER.

THEY HAVE SLEUTH COMING AT THE END OF OCTOBER.

THAT'LL BE A LOT OF FUN.

AND THEN IN THE SUMMERTIME, IT'S THE DALLAS YOUNG ACTORS.

SO, UM, THIS THEATER SPACE IS IN USE.

THERE'S VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY, UH, IN THE SMALL THEATER.

MOST OF THOSE PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

AND THE PRIMARY USERS ARE THE GARLAND CIVIC THEATER IN THE DALLAS YOUNG ACTORS.

AND THEN OF COURSE, THE PLAZA THEATER, THE ICONIC, REALLY COOL, BEAUTIFUL NEON, UM, PLAZA THEATER.

WE'VE HAD SO MUCH FUN HOSTING, UH, THE CONCERTS IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, THE BAND TOGETHER, CONCERTS.

[00:40:01]

UM, BUT THERE'S LOTS OF MOVIES, UH, AT THE PLAZA THEATER.

THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS GROUP, UM, PRODUCES A THROWBACK THURSDAY MOVIE FOR FREE.

WE HAVE A SERIES OF MOVIES FOR FREE.

SO, UM, BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE COMEDY, AND YOU CAN SEE SOME OF OUR THEATER GROUPS AS WELL, TOO, THIS SPACE, ONCE THE, THE DOWNTOWN IS COMPLETELY, UH, YOU KNOW, RENTED OR RENOVATED.

I MEAN, THIS HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

UM, AND I KNOW ONE OF THE THINGS THAT ANDY IS REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT IS MUSIC.

AND I KNOW HE'S GOT SOME THINGS KIND OF COOKING ABOUT HOW CAN WE BRING SOME MORE LIVE MUSIC, UH, TO THE PLAZA THEATER.

PLUS WE ALSO HAVE JIMMY WALLACE IN DOWNTOWN TOO, WITH THE GUITAR, UM, STORE.

SO COOL.

SO THE ATRIUM, UM, THE ATRIUM IS, THAT'S EVERY WEEKEND AS WELL, TOO.

IT'S VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY.

IT'S A BALLROOM THAT SEATS 450.

UM, SATURDAYS ARE OUR PREMIUM NIGHTS.

THERE'S LOTS OF QUINCEANERAS, WEDDINGS, FUNDRAISERS, ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

AND, UH, YOU KNOW, RECENTLY TOO, MATT JUST HELPED US KIND OF TRIM UP THE TREES AND HANG SOME LIGHTS.

SO WE'RE, WE'RE TRYING HARD TO MAKE THAT JUST A REALLY SPECIAL VENUE.

UM, AND IT'S SUPER AFFORDABLE TOO, ACTUALLY.

THE ATRIUM, AMAZINGLY, IS A VERY AFFORDABLE VENUE, WHICH IS ITS PURPOSE.

AS A CITY RUN FACILITY, WE WANNA BE AVAILABLE FOR THE COMMUNITY.

SO, UH, IN 2022, UM, STAFF WORKED HARD TO IMPLEMENT SOME OF THE GOALS FROM THE CULTURAL ARTS PLAN.

THERE WAS A PRODUCED SERIES CALLED MAKE YOUR MARK, WHERE WE FEATURED MOSES XVE, WHO'S A LOCAL, UH, CHRISTIAN HIP HOP ARTIST.

UH, WE HAVE OUR MICHELLE NOAH, WHO HAS A GALLERY IN DOWNTOWN GARLAND ON NINTH STREET.

UM, SHE'S HAD SHOWS AT THE GRANDVILLE.

UH, AND THEN WE ALSO KIND OF DIPPED OUR TOE INTO SOME PRESENTING, UH, SERIES.

AND SO WE HAD BITTY BITTY BOND, UH, BACK ON SEPTEMBER 17TH AND CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL, UH, HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH.

AND THERE'S THE MAYOR WITH THE SELENA LOOKALIKE.

PRETTY FUN.

UM, AND AS DANA REFERENCE TO, WE'VE GOT BIG ART DAY HAPPENING THIS SPRING.

THIS IS A GREAT PARTNERSHIP, UH, WITH SPECIAL EVENTS IN DOWNTOWN AND VISIT GARLAND.

UM, WE HAVE SOME THINGS COOKING FOR THAT, BUT THAT WILL BE IN APRIL THE FIRST.

AND OF COURSE, WE ALWAYS HAVE OUR GI I S D ART SHOW.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS THOUGH THAT'S, UM, ON MY RADAR IS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE 40 YEARS OLD, AND I LOVE THIS PICTURE SO MUCH.

THIS IS PRIOR TO A LITTLE BIT OF A FACELIFT THAT HAPPENED.

UM, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE, YOU KNOW, I LOVE THOSE VEHICLES OUT THERE.

IT'S AN INCREDIBLE FACILITY.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL FACILITY.

UM, BUT AS WE ALL BEGIN TO AGE, WE ALL NEED A LITTLE, YOU KNOW, A LITTLE TLC HERE.

SO IN THIS NEXT YEAR, UM, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A FACILITY ASSESSMENT THAT WILL IDENTIFY SOME OF THE CRITICAL NEEDS OF THE FACILITY.

AND WE HOPE, I THINK, IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS, TO EITHER THROUGH MAYBE A, A BOND OR A CIP P FIGURE OUT A WAY TO SET ASIDE SOME MONIES TO REFRESH, BECAUSE WE WANNA REALLY MAINTAIN THESE AS GREAT SPACES TO BRING IN THE PUBLIC.

UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S HOT ON MY RADAR TOO, I GUESS I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS ON MY RADAR RIGHT NOW, BUT IT'S A CULTURAL DISTRICT DESIGNATION.

SO I'VE BEEN THROUGH THAT PROCESS IN MCKINNEY.

UM, I WAS ABLE TO HELP, UH, GET THE GROUPS TOGETHER TO, TO GET THE DESIGNATION.

WE CAN DO THAT IN GARLAND.

AND WHEN WE HAVE A CULTURAL DISTRICT DESIGNATION FOR THE CITY OF GARLAND, UH, IN THIS DOWNTOWN AREA THAT'S GONNA OPEN UP FUNDING, WHICH IS, UM, SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY NEED TO WORK ON AS WELL TOO.

UH, IT HAS TO BE A WALKABLE AREA.

THE STATE WILL SAY IT NEEDS TO BE A WALKABLE AREA.

AND THERE ALSO HAS TO BE A PRIVATE 5 0 1 C THREE THAT BECOMES THE MANAGEMENT ENTITY FOR THE DISTRICT.

SO WE ALREADY HAVE THAT IN PLACE, UM, WITH AN ARTS COMMISSION.

YOU KNOW, THERE, THERE'S GREAT OPPORTUNITY WITH A CULTURAL DISTRICT DESIGNATION.

UM, THE OTHER THING THAT WE'RE WORKING ON TOO IS A PUBLIC ART PROCESS, ACTUALLY, THAT WAS IDENTIFIED AS ONE OF THE TOP GOALS OF THE CULTURAL ARTS PLAN WAS PUTTING TOGETHER A PUBLIC ART PROCESS.

AND THIS IS ONLY FOR PUBLIC ART THAT'S EITHER BEING PAID FOR WITH PUBLIC DOLLARS, OR THAT'S USING PUBLIC PROPERTY.

SO IF IT'S A PRIVATE BUSINESS OWNER THAT WANTS TO PUT UP A MURAL OR PUT UP SOME TYPE OF ARTWORK, THEY MAY HAVE TO MEET CERTAIN CITY ORDINANCES, BUT THIS POLICY WOULD NOT INTERFERE WITH ANY TYPE OF PRIVATE INITIATIVE.

THIS IS ONLY WHEN THERE ARE PUBLIC DOLLARS INVOLVED.

AND WHAT THAT WOULD DO IS KIND OF, THERE'S A LOT OF GREAT ACTIVITIES HAPPENING ACROSS THE CITY, AND I THINK JUST TRY TO HELP KIND OF STREAMLINE AND MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S AN EQUITABLE, UH, AND TRANSPARENT PROCESS.

SO THAT'S, THAT'S HOT ON OUR RADAR.

UM, THE NEXT THING THAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS WE'RE GONNA REVIEW OUR FEES.

YOU KNOW, WE DO HAVE THESE BEAUTIFUL FACILITIES THAT ARE AFFORDABLE, BUT THEY PROBABLY, UH, ARE, IT'S TIME FOR, YOU KNOW, AN ADJUSTMENT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE, UM, REMAINING SOMEWHAT COMPETITIVE, I GUESS, OR, YOU KNOW, HELPING TO BE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR, YOU KNOW, FOR SOME OF OUR OBLIGATIONS.

SO

[00:45:01]

WE HAVE A NEW RESERVATION SYSTEM, WE'RE HAVING A NEW TICKETING SYSTEM, UH, AND WE ALSO NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT OUR CONTRACTING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

UH, THE OTHER THING THAT WE'RE GONNA WORK ON IS BRINGING IN SOME MORE, UH, PERFORMANCES TO COMPLIMENT WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE ART CENTER.

WE HAVE LOTS OF WONDERFUL, UH, LOCAL PERFORMANCE GROUPS, BUT WE WANNA BRING IN SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT TO, TO HELP COMPLIMENT THEIR WORK.

SO WE HAVE, UM, PEAK CREATE.

THE PEAKING ACROBATS ARE COMING IN MARCH OF 2023.

THIS IS A REALLY, UH, TREMENDOUS GROUP.

THEY TRAVEL ALL OVER THE WORLD.

UM, THEY'LL DO INCREDIBLE THINGS IN THE THEATER THAT YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE.

SO VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

UH, AND THEN WE'RE ALSO GONNA HAVE LEGENDARY MAVIS STAPLES WILL COME JOIN US, UM, IN MARCH OF NEXT YEAR AS WELL TOO.

AND SO SHE WILL, UH, PROVIDE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF, YOU KNOW, SHE'S GOSPEL BLUES, UM, I MEAN, JUST A LEGENDARY PERFORMER.

SO REALLY SPECIAL TO HAVE HER HERE IN GARLAND IN OUR FACILITIES.

UM, THINKING A LITTLE BIT MORE LONG TERM, YOU KNOW, OUR FIELD TRIP WAS TO GO LOOK AT ARTS INCUBATORS.

YOU KNOW, WE KNOW THAT ONCE YOU HAVE THOSE CREATIVE ARTISTS, UM, THAT THAT BRINGS A CERTAIN ENERGY TO YOUR, YOUR DOWNTOWN OR TO YOUR DISTRICT, WE WANNA FIGURE OUT A WAY TO PROVIDE THEM WITH SOME, UH, AFFORDABLE SPACE.

UM, BRING THAT ENERGY THAT WOULD HELP, YOU KNOW, CONTINUE TO HIGHLIGHT GARLAND AS A, UH, AS A PLACE FOR ARTISTS.

SO WE ALSO ARE LOOKING AT A FILM FESTIVAL, UM, THAT WE'VE GOT THE PERFECT THEATER FOR IT.

AND, UH, LOTS OF GREAT, UM, LOTS OF GREAT PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION.

YOU KNOW, OUR, OUR MULTICULTURAL COMMISSION, THERE'S SOME MEMBERS ON THAT COMMISSION THAT HAVE SOME REALLY GREAT INSIGHT TO A FILM FESTIVAL, UM, AND GREAT ASSETS TO BUILD ON.

SO THE OTHER THING FROM A LONG TERM, UH, STANDPOINT, YOU KNOW, WE REALLY NEED TO DEVELOP SOME ADDITIONAL REVENUE SOURCES.

UM, RIGHT NOW, AGAIN, OUR, UH, GCA C THE, THE ARTS COMMISSION IS JUST HOTEL DOLLARS.

UM, AND THEN THE OTHER, THE FACILITIES ARE GENERAL FUND, BUT IT'S ALSO, YOU KNOW, WE EARN OUR REVENUES THROUGH RENTALS.

I MEAN, AGAIN, REVENUE IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN THROUGH RENTALS.

SO I THINK LOOKING FOR SPONSORSHIPS, UM, SOME FUNDRAISERS AND THEN SOME GRANTING THAT, THAT WILL BE, THAT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US.

AND THEN TOO, WE ARE, WE'RE ALSO THINKING ABOUT THIS, THIS BRAND, YOU KNOW, UM, ANDY TALKS ABOUT IT REALLY WELL.

HE TALKS ABOUT THIS KIND OF MUSIC VIBE.

HE'S GOT THIS VISION THAT, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE COMING TO GARLAND, HE WANTS PEOPLE TO THINK ABOUT MUSIC, UM, AND ENTERTAINMENT AND RECREATION.

AND SO HOW CAN WE PUT TOGETHER AN AUTHENTIC BRAND, UH, THAT REALLY SHOWCASES WHAT, WHAT WE'VE GOT TO OFFER? SO AGAIN, YOU KNOW, THESE ARE, THESE ARE THE AWESOME THINGS THAT, UM, THAT Y'ALL KNOW, UH, THAT WE ARE ABOUT.

AND, UH, WE JUST, AGAIN, A VIBRANT COMMUNITY FOR ALL TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ALIKE.

I MEAN, THAT REALLY SPEAKS, SPEAKS TO US.

SO, UM, I'M HAPPY TO HELP ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

DID I HEAR YOU SAY, UH, WHO WAS SPEAKING? DAVID? DID I HEAR YOU SAY THAT? UH, THIS INCLUDES A STANDUP COMEDY ? WELL, YOU KNOW, I THINK COMEDY, ACTUALLY, I THINK THE PLAZA THEATER WITH THE 350 SEATS IS PERFECT FOR STANDUP COMEDY.

DO WE HAVE A, DO YOU HAVE A RECOMMENDATION? YES, I DO.

OKAY.

, I'VE GOT MY PEN.

OKAY.

SHE NOW, SHE'S AN LA BASED.

OKAY.

UH, STANDUP COMEDIAN, MONIQUE MARVE.

OKAY.

AND DOES SHE HAVE GARLAND HISTORY OR, NO, BUT I'M PART OF HER A THREE 30 FAN BASE.

AND, UM, , I LOVE IT.

LET'S JUST SAY THAT WE'VE, UM, EMAILED BEFORE.

OKAY, TERRIFIC.

I WILL CHECK HER OUT.

I MEAN, I, I THINK THAT COMEDY, I MEAN, WE'VE HAD SOME PRIVATELY PRODUCED COMEDY SHOWS, BUT I THINK THERE'S A REAL POTENTIAL FOR COMEDY, ESPECIALLY AT THE PLAZA.

WELL, THANK YOU.

I LOVE IT.

AND SHE CAN COVER A WIDE RANGE, INCLUDING, YOU KNOW, DRY CHRISTIAN EVENTS TO LATE NIGHT COMEDIES.

SO WHAT RANGE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, JUST LET HER KNOW IN ADVANCE.

.

UM, THAT'S GREAT.

THANK YOU.

THANKS, CHAIRMAN.

UH, THANK ONE QUESTION.

IT'S MULTI PART, NO, .

THAT'S OKAY.

THIS ONE, THIS ONE.

AMY, THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION.

IT WAS VERY, VERY ANIMATED AND VERY, UH, UH, VERY ENLIGHTENING.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THAT.

UH, WITH THE CULTURAL ARTS BEING UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE, OF THE PARKS, UH, BOARD AND PARKS DEPARTMENT, UM, WE HAVE THIS, WE HAVE SOMETHING THAT'S HAPPENED IN GARLAND THAT WAS NEVER, EVER ENVISIONED IN THE HISTORY OF GARLAND.

AND THAT'S PROBLEMS. FIND THE PARKING PLACE IN DOWNTOWN GARLAND.

[00:50:01]

OH, MM-HMM.

, WHAT A PHENOMENAL PROBLEM.

NOW, NOW, AND, AND THIS, I DON'T KNOW WHERE THIS MAY GO, BUT I START HERE SO I CAN FIND THE ANSWER AS TO, UH, WHAT THE COUNCIL MAY BE DOING TO, UH, ACCOMMODATE THAT.

CAUSE I, I TALK TO PEOPLE, WE TRY TO COME DOWN ON FRIDAY NIGHTS AND, AND I'LL GET THE FIRST WORDS OUT.

IT'S, WE CAN'T FIND A PARKING PLACE.

I KNOW NOW THAT IT'S A PROBLEM, BUT WHERE THEY'RE WORKING, THERE'S UNTIL WE'RE NOT GONNA BE PARKING.

OKAY.

SO ANYWAY, DO YOU, DO YOU KNOW IF ANYTHING'S IN THERE ABOUT THAT? WELL, SO, SO I'M, I'M JUST THREE MONTHS IN AND DANA MIGHT EVEN HAVE A, A FEW MORE ANSWERS AS WELL, TOO.

I KNOW THAT THERE'S BEEN A PARKING STUDY, SO COMING FROM MCKINNEY, MR. CARTER GARLAND HAS LOTS OF PARKING .

IT'S, IT'S JUST THAT SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT HAVE TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU'RE GONNA PARK IN ADVANCE.

AND, AND THAT'S, IT'S A PERCEPTION THING.

IT'S LIKE PLANNING AND IT'S, IT'S HARD.

IT'S, IT'S VERY CHALLENGING TO, TO GET THE WORD OUT TO EVERYBODY ABOUT WHERE ALL THE PARKING OPTIONS ARE.

BUT A PARK, WHEN YOU HAVE, UM, NOBODY WANTS TO GO TO A PLACE WHERE THERE'S PLENTY OF PARKING THOUGH, TOO.

YOU KNOW, I MEAN, I, I WILL SAY THAT I REMEMBER, UM, FROM, YOU KNOW, MY MCKINNEY DAYS, THEY WOULD, YOU KNOW, IF, IF THEY'RE, IF THE STREETS ARE EMPTY, THEN THERE'S NOT ANYTHING GOING ON.

YOU KNOW, I MEAN, YOU WANT, YOU WANT THERE TO BE PEOPLE.

IT IS THOUGH FIGURING OUT HOW CAN YOU EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT THE BEST PARKING OPTIONS.

SO I KNOW THERE, THERE'S A PARKING STUDY IN PLACE.

I MEAN, I KNOW THAT THAT'S DEFINITELY ON EVERYBODY'S MIND.

UM, I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE THAT , I, I DO, I, YEAH, GO AHEAD, DAN.

I WAS, THIS IS THE, THIS IS A WILD CONVERSATION.

YES, YES.

SO A REPORT JUST WENT TO COUNCIL, I BELIEVE, LAST FRIDAY, AND AS SOON AS, UM, THEY'VE ALL HAD A CHANCE TO SEE IT, I WILL MAKE SURE THAT, UH, THIS BOARD RECEIVES THAT SAME REPORT SO THAT YOU WILL SEE THAT.

UM, BUT BASICALLY IT SHOWS THAT THERE'S PLENTY OF PARKING.

UM, THE FOURTH FLOOR OF THIS PARKING GARAGE IS ALWAYS EMPTY.

UM, THE FOURTH AND FIFTH FLOOR OF THE PARKING GARAGE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE ART CENTER IS ALWAYS EMPTY.

THE LIBRARY PARKING IS EMPTY.

UM, I KNOW THAT THOSE ARE A BLOCK AWAY, SO IT GETS TO BE THAT PERCEPTION.

BUT, UM, I THINK THE REPORT WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTION PROBABLY MORE ELOQUENTLY THAN MYSELF, BUT YES, IT, IT JUST GOT COMPLETED AND JUST WENT TO COUNCIL.

SO WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT YOU GUYS SEE IT.

MAYBE IT'S NOT A LACK OF PARKING, MAYBE IT'S A LACK OF DIRECTION TO WHERE THE PARKING EXISTS.

RIGHT.

BECAUSE THAT NOW, I MEAN, YOU COME IN, YOU SEE EVERY PLACE FILLED, IT'S ALL FILLED AROUND THE CORNER.

THERE'S A LOT.

YEAH.

SO, YEAH, AND WE TRY TO SHOW, UH, UH, THAT IN THE REPORT THAT, UM, SOME, YOU KNOW, SOME ADDITIONAL SIGNAGE HAS GONE UP IN THE PAST THREE MONTHS OR SO.

UM, THERE MAY BE NEED FOR EVEN MORE SO, BUT, UM, THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS LOOKED AT AND ADDRESSED.

AND SO, UM, I DEFINITELY HEAR YOU ON THAT, MR. CARTER.

THANKS.

I HAVE YOU.

THANKS FOR BOTH THAT.

GREAT.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? GREAT.

THANK YOU.

GREAT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU ALL.

THANK YOU, AMY.

SEE, YOU CAN SEE THERE'S, THAT'S A LOT OF COOL THINGS GOING ON ARTWISE IN THE CITY.

AND IT'S ONE OF THE COOL THINGS THAT I LIKE THAT OUR DEPARTMENT COVERS ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT, IT'S NOT JUST PARKS AND REC.

WE GET CULTURAL ARTS, WE GET DOWNTOWN, WE GET ARTS, AND IT GETS TO PLAYING A LOT OF DIFFERENT SANDBOXES, WHICH IS GREAT.

.

OKAY.

NEXT UP.

MONTHLY REPORTS.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? YOU'RE LIMITED TO TWO.

JERRY, I HERE, HE'S .

HE HAD HIS OLD BOOK MARKS UP THE KNOW, THE BEST WAY IN THE WORLD I FOUND TO FIND OUT THINGS IS TO ASK A QUESTION.

IT'S AMAZING.

GO AHEAD OF SMARTER PEOPLE THAN US.

WE'RE READY FOR YOU.

OKAY.

MAYBE, OH, THE GARLAND SENIOR, THE GARLAND SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER, WHERE IS, WHERE IS THAT, ARE THEY GOING TO MOVE THAT, UH, FROM ITS CURRENT FACILITY? IS THAT WHAT'S BEING CONSIDERED OR DO WE KNOW THE LEAVE WAS HERE? UH, THERE'S THE, HELLO.

SO THERE WILL BE A, AN A SITE ASSESSMENT PERFORMED BY BS, WHICH IS THE ARCHITECT THAT WE ARE CONTRACTING WITH.

UH, BUT I BELIEVE THEIR CONTRACT GOES TO COUNCIL NEXT WEEK.

AND SO CAN'T MOVE FORWARD ON THE SITE ASSESSMENT AND DOING THAT WORK UNTIL WE HAVE THAT CONTRACT IN PLACE.

SO, OKAY.

AND THE COUNCIL'S THINKING THAT THERE'S A GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY BE MOVED.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE COUNCIL IS THINKING.

OH, OKAY.

UM, BUT THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION THAT WILL BE GIVEN AND THEN COUNCIL WOULD GIVE DIRECTION.

OKAY.

UH, THIS IS, THIS IS A CONSTRUCTION QUESTION.

I, I KNOW WE'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT THIS BEFORE,

[00:55:01]

BUT JUST A QUICK QUESTION ON THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AT RISK CONTRACTOR.

OKAY.

THE ADVANTAGES TO THE CITY ARE HAVING THAT AS OPPOSED TO HAVING, UH, THE FORMAT THAT WAS USED, UH, UP UNTIL JUST THE LAST YEAR OR TWO.

IS, IS THIS, THIS PROCESS BECOME SUCCESSFUL? IS IT WORKING FOR THE CITY? YES.

I I IT'S NOT THE GOLD STANDARD THOUGH.

IT'S, IT'S LITERALLY DISCUSSED WHAT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR EACH PROJECT AND CORRECT.

SO IT'S NOT JUST A ONE AND DONE THAT.

IT WILL ALWAYS BE CMAR UHHUH.

ARE WE SEEING THAT WE'RE USING THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME OR MINORITY OF THE TIME OR DON'T, CAN SPEAK TO THEIR REC DIVISION PROJECTS AND THEY HAVE BEEN C CMAR, BUT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF THE CITY.

I CAN'T COMMENT ON THAT.

OKAY.

I, I'M JUST CONCERNED ABOUT THE THINGS THAT DEAL WITH THE PARKS.

OKAY.

UM, I SEE THAT HALFORD, UH, HOR UH, PARK, THE REC CENTER IS NOW CLOSED.

YES.

AND, AND, UH, WHEN IS THAT SCHEDULE THAT WE HAVE A SCHEDULE FOR DEMOLITION, DEMOLITION ON THAT YET? SOMETIME LATER THIS FALL.

THE FALL.

OKAY.

UH, THE GRAINGER ANNEX, UH, CONTRACT OF OFFICIAL ARCHITECTS FOR DESIGN OF THE GRAINGER ANNEX AND CONSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY AND IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETE EARLY 2023.

SO WE'RE ACTUALLY FURTHER ALONG THAN JUST A CONTRACT.

WE WERE ACTUALLY SIGNIFICANTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

SIGNIFICANTLY, YES.

IN INSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY.

YEP.

GREAT.

UH, SURFING, SURFACE SWIM, UH, KIMBERLY HORN LOOKS LIKE CHOSEN TO HANDLE THAT.

AND DESIGN CONTRACT IS SCHEDULED FOR EXECUTION IN OCTOBER, AND WE'LL START SOON AFTER THAT.

ANY KIND OF A TIMELINE? WELL, THAT WILL JUST BE FOR THE DESIGN.

MM-HMM.

AND THE DESIGN WILL TAKE UPWARDS OF 12 TO 15 MONTHS.

OKAY.

UH, SO IT, IT WILL BE A WHILE BEFORE CONSTRUCTION STARTS THERE, WITH THE HOPES THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO START DEMO THIS NEXT SUMMER SO THAT WE WOULD BE ON THE GROUND READY TO GO AS SOON AS DESIGN WAS DONE.

SO SURF AND SWIM WILL BE CLOSED NEXT SUMMER.

SURF AND THE FOLLOWING, AND THE, THE WAY IT'S PROJECTED RIGHT NOW, WE ONLY HAVE BRADFIELD OPEN, SO NEXT SUMMER, BRADFIELD POOL WILL BE THE ONLY POOL OPEN, BUT WE WILL HAVE, HOLFORD WILL BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SURF AND SWIM WILL BE CLOSED AND UNDER DESIGN.

AND PROBABLY SOME OF THE DEMO HAVE, HAVE STARTED.

OH, WE WILL HAVE TWO SPLASH PADS.

TWO SPLASH PADS, YEAH.

ONE AT EMBR AND ONE AT LONG WIND.

THAT WILL BE OPEN NEXT SUMMER.

OKAY.

OKAY.

OR THE DEMO, THE POOL, THEY STARTED DEMO THIS WEEK AT LONG WIND ON, SHE'S WIND, NO LAWN.

LAWN LONG WIND ON LONG WIND.

OKAY.

THE OLD 70 YEAR OLD MAL SWIMMING POOL.

YEAH.

IT'S GONE .

OH MAN.

OKAY.

UM, LET'S SEE HERE.

SO, AND, AND I PRESUME THAT WE HAVE, WE ALREADY HAVE DONE THE WORK SO THAT WE HAVE THE PARAMETERS FOR WHAT WE'RE GOING TO TRY AND BE ACCOMPLISHED OUT OF, OUT OF THE NEW SURFACE SWIM OR WHATEVER IT BECOMES.

WELL, WE, WE HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED THE DESIGN PROCESS, SO NONE OF THAT HAS STARTED YET.

BUT THE, THE PARAMETERS OF THE, THE, THE COMPONENTS OF THE COMPONENTS, WE'LL BE FOLLOWING THE AQUATICS MASTER PLAN AND THROUGHOUT THE DESIGN PROCESS.

YES.

OKAY.

WE SAW THAT.

OKAY.

AND, UH, LOU H UH, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I SEE THIS SHOW UP AND THIS WAS, I LIKE TO SEE THIS, UH, OPM, OH, YOU CALL IT AR A RPA ARPA.

YEAH, OPM, OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.

.

OKAY.

NOW TELL ME, ARE, ARE WE, ARE WE BEING ABLE, CUZ WE HAVE SEVERAL OF THOSE IN A ROW, UH, WHERE WE'RE STARTING TO, TO USE THE APA FUNDS, WHICH IS FANTASTIC.

CORRECT.

AND IS THAT, IS THAT OCCURRING BECAUSE NOW IS THIS GONNA HELP US WITH OUR OVERRUNS ON THE OTHER PROJECTS BECAUSE NOW WE CAN HAVE ANOTHER PLACE TO USE THE MONEY? CORRECT.

IT'S GONNA COVER AGAIN, AND I DON'T HAVE THE COMPLETE BREAKDOWN ON WHERE ALL THOSE, THOSE DIFFERENT FUNDS ARE GOING, BUT IT IS GONNA BE COVERING SOME OVERRUNS AND IT WAS ABLE TO, TO FUND SOME ADDITIONAL PROJECTS AND WEREN'T INITIALLY FUNDED THROUGH THE BOND.

AND ARE WE, ARE WE FAIRLY, ARE WE TO A POINT OF BEING COMFORTABLE YET THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO, UM, UM, FACILITATE THE USE OF ALL OF THE MONEY THAT'S AVAILABLE TO 30 MILLION? A HUNDRED PERCENT.

OH, THAT'S A, A NICE ROUND NUMBER.

WHY WE'RE MOVING SO FAST ON THIS.

YEAH.
