ONE.[Environmental and Community Advisory Board on September 14, 2022.]
KEN MAYOR'S APPOINTEE.IS HE MAD? DISTRICT SEVEN? ROB COW.
HAS EVERYBODY LOOKED AT THE MINUTES? EVERYBODY BUT ME.
WELL, THERE'S NOBODY BETTER THAN BUDDY TO GO THROUGH.
DID YOU GET YOUR RED PEN OUT? NOPE.
SO THE, THE MINUTES LOOK GOOD.
MEANS I GET TO SIGN SOMETHING.
I JUST BOUGHT A TRUCK FROM MURIEL.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE GOING ON TONIGHT? GIVE A COPY OF THE AGENDA.
NO, THAT'S WHY I'M, OR DO I? NO, NO.
I HOPE HE'S NOT LAUGHING AT ME.
UM, WELL, WE MIGHT AS WELL GET RIGHT ON TO, UH, ANIMAL SERVICES.
I THINK I SAW ART BACK THERE SOMEWHERE.
AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BRING A DOG WITH YOU OR SOMETHING? AH, SEE, YOU'RE, YOU ALREADY TELL ME.
GOT A BOX OF PUPPIES TO HAND OUT AFTER THE MEETING.
SOME PHARAOH, MICHELLE WANTS TOO.
BUT I'D PROBABLY TAKE TWO MORE.
I'M THE DIRECTOR OF ANIMAL SERVICES HERE FOR THE CITY OF GARLAND.
AND I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OPERATIONS, AND I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR FIELD OPERATIONS AS WELL.
UM, AS Y'ALL KNOW, WE MOVED INTO A BRAND NEW FACILITY IN FEBRUARY, UM, AND WE FILLED UP PRETTY QUICK.
UM, WE ARE A HIGH INTAKE VOLUME SHELTER, SO WE INTAKE RIGHT AROUND 6,000 ANIMALS A YEAR.
UM, AND WE DO ABOUT 2000 ADOPTIONS A YEAR, AND THE REST ACTUALLY GO TO OUR RESCUE PARTNERS.
AND SO WE REALLY TRY TO FOCUS ON BUILDING THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR RESCUE PARTNERS, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE MAJORITY OF OUR ANIMALS GO.
UM, AND SO IT'S A DAILY, UM, CONVERSATION WITH THOSE RESCUE GROUPS, UH, TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GOT ALL THE INFORMATION THEY NEED ON ALL THE ANIMALS WE HAVE IN OUR SHELTER.
UH, ALSO PART OF OPERATIONS, OF COURSE, IS OUR OUTREACH.
UM, WE DO A LOT WITH THE PUBLIC AND OTHER MUNICIPALITIES, MAINLY JUST EDUCATION.
A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY NEED FOR THEIR ANIMALS.
UM, YOU KNOW, WHERE I USED TO WORK AT THE SPCA FOR 16 YEARS, AND YOU'D BE SURPRISED WHEN YOU ASK SOMEBODY, HEY, HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU FEED YOUR DOG A DAY? AND THEY'RE LIKE, WELL, I FEED HIM ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS SUFFICIENT.
RIGHT? SO A LOT OF WHAT WE DO IS EDUCATION FROM VACCINES, MICROCHIPS, UH, STERILIZATION.
THAT'S THE BIGGEST PART HERE IN THE CITY THAT WE REALLY FOCUS, IS JUST PROVIDING THAT TO OUR CITIZENS.
NOT ONLY THAT IS ALSO PROVIDING THE RESOURCES THAT THEY NEED.
UH, WE COULD TELL 'EM ALL DAY WHAT THEY GOTTA DO, BUT IF WE ARE NOT PROVIDING THE RESOURCES THAT ARE OUT THERE FOR THEM, THEN AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE'RE JUST BRINGING IN MORE ANIMALS.
UH, AND THEN FROM THE FIELD SIDE, SO LIKE I SAID, WE'RE HIGH INTAKE.
WE'RE ALSO HIGH VOLUME CALLS IN THE FIELD.
WE ANSWER RIGHT AROUND 18,000 CALLS A YEAR.
UM, AND WE RESPOND TO ABOUT 40 TO 70 CALLS A DAY, UM, FULLY STAFFED.
WE HAVE FOUR OFFICERS EVERY DAY.
UM, AND THEN ON WEDNESDAYS WE OVERLAP AND WE'LL HAVE EIGHT NOW THAT'S CREATED FOR FULLY STAFF
SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES RIGHT NOW IS WE HAVE SIX, SIX VACANCIES, THREE IN THE FIELD, THREE IN THE SHELTER.
UM, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, WE DO A GREAT JOB WITH FIELD.
UM, RECENT, WELL, THE LAST TWO YEARS, WE CREATED AN ANIMAL CRUELTY DIVISION.
ONE THING WE FOUND OUT IS THERE WAS A LOT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY GOING ON WITHIN THE CITY.
AND SO WE CREATED THIS DIVISION TO WORK SIDE BY SIDE WITH GARLAND PD, ALONG WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY DA'S OFFICE.
UM, SO YEAR TO DATE, WE'VE REMOVED 309 ANIMALS AND RESULTING IN 11 ARREST AND TWO ACTIVE ARREST WARRANTS.
UH, ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION, AS FAR AS OPERATIONS, WE DO HAVE OUR MEDICAL TEAM.
UM, WE DO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE A FULL TIME VETERINARIAN,
[00:05:01]
UH, FOR THE CITY, WHICH WE ARE UNIQUE IN THAT WAY IS MOST SHELTERS DON'T HAVE A FULL-TIME VETERINARIAN.NOW THAT POSITION IS VACANT, BUT WE DO HAVE TWO CANDIDATES THAT, UM, WE'RE TALKING TO RIGHT NOW.
AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET A VET IN THERE SOON.
AS Y'ALL KNOW HERE IN THE CITY OF GARLAND, YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE YOUR ANIMAL STERILIZED, UM, SIX MONTHS OR OLDER.
UM, SO THE GOAL IS TO ALWAYS HAVE THOSE ANIMALS STERILIZED BEFORE WE ADOPT THEM OUT.
NOT ONLY THAT, LIKE I SAID, WE GET 6,000 ANIMALS A YEAR.
WE HAVE INJURED ANIMALS, SICK ANIMALS, YOU NAME IT, THAT WE HAVE TO CARE FOR ONCE THEY COME INTO OUR SHELTER.
SO WE HAVE THAT ONE VET POSITION, AND THEN WE HAVE TWO VET TECH POSITIONS THAT ASSIST WITH THAT.
AND I'LL KIND OF LEAVE IT OPEN FOR ANY QUESTIONS Y'ALL DID HAVE WHEN YOU FIRST OPENED.
YOU HAD A A DOCTOR, THE BLONDE LADY? WE DID, YES.
WHAT, YOU KNOW, KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? I'M SORRY.
IS SHE NO LONGER? YEP, SHE RESIGNED.
SO TRYING TO FILL THAT POSITION PRETTY QUICK.
SO SHE WAS A FULL-TIME, SHE WAS A LITTLE LEGIT VET.
SHE'S A BEHAVIORALIST SPECIALIST TOO.
WE DO HAVE A BEHAVIORALIST SPECIALIST POSITION.
AND THE REASON WHY, UH, WE CREATED THAT POSITION WAS TO FOCUS ON OUR ANIMALS THAT HAVE BEHAVIORAL ISSUES.
UM, AND THEY'RE ABLE TO FOCUS ON ENRICHMENT, NOT ONLY THAT, BUT PROVIDE BE MODS, WHICH WE CALL IT AS BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATIONS, UH, TO HELP THOSE DOGS GET INTO RESCUE PROGRAMS AND OR ADOPTION.
WHAT KIND OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU GUYS HAVE? ART, UH, GREAT QUESTION.
SO WE WORK WITH FRIENDS OF RESCUED ANIMALS.
UH, WE CREATED THIS RELATIONSHIP ABOUT A YEAR AGO, SO THEY'RE KIND OF AN ARM TO OUR SHELTER.
UM, NOT ONLY TO HELP WITH DONATIONS AND GRANTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, BUT ALSO VOLUNTEERS.
AND SO WE RECENTLY STARTED THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WITH THEM AND MEAN, WE'RE UP AND ROLLING NOW.
SO WE HAVE ABOUT 15 VOLUNTEERS.
YEAH, I'VE BEEN TO THAT FACILITY, UM, WITH THE LEADERSHIP GUIDELINE LAST YEAR.
AND, UH, HOW MANY STAFF WE HAVE NOW? YEP.
AND THAT'S INCLUDING THREE TEMPORARY POSITIONS.
AND WHAT IS OUR, UH, OPERATIONAL BUDGET? OPERATION BUDGET.
SO OPERATING BUDGET NOW, IT'S A NEW ONE.
ACTUALLY STAND OVER ART FACILITY.
DO YOU DO, UM, COMMUNITY SERVICE? SO, NOT, NOT YET, BUT THAT IS SOMETHING WE ARE LOOKING AT IN THE FUTURE.
ROLLETTE HAS DONE IT FOR YEARS.
I USED TO, UM, IN MY BUSINESS, WE USED TO TAKE, UM, AT RISK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
AND IT'S A, IT'S A GREAT WAY TO DO IT.
I THINK, I THINK IT'S LIKE TWO FORMS WITH THE STATE AND YOU'RE IN.
I HAVE A LOOK AT, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ACTUALLY.
THESE WERE GIVEN TO ME BY SOME OF MY CONSTITUENTS.
SO I'M GOING TO ASK YOU SOME QUESTIONS.
WHAT IS THE POLICY ABOUT, UH, FERAL KAZ? MM-HMM.
SO WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS RIGHT NOW.
WE HAVE OUR TNR PROGRAM, AND THEN WE HAVE OUR SN R PROGRAM.
SO TN R IS RUN BY VOLUNTEER GROUP.
SO THE GOOD THING IS WITH THAT, WE ACTUALLY HIRED A CONTRACT VET TO COME IN AND STERILIZE ALL OF THE TNR CATS.
SO SHE WORKS THREE MONDAYS A MONTH, AND WE STERILIZE ANYWHERE FROM SIX TO 800 CATS A YEAR.
SO HERE IN THE CITY YOU CAN TRAP NUISANCE ANIMALS.
AND A LOT OF THOSE ARE THE FERAL CATS, UNFORTUNATELY.
SO WHAT WE DO IS WHEN WE GET THOSE IN, WE ACTUALLY STERILIZE, VACCINATE AND SEND THEM BACK OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.
SO WE DON'T, BUT WE STILL HAVE TO.
I'LL BE HONEST WITH YOU, WE STILL HAVE TO BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A FULL-TIME VET AND WE JUST CAN'T KEEP THE FERALS.
IT JUST, THERE'S NO WAY TO KEEP THAT MANY THAT COME IN.
NOW WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING IS WE'RE WORKING WITH OPERATION KINDNESS.
UM, AND SO WE HAVE 'EM SCHEDULE OUT THROUGH THE YEAR.
SO ANY OF THE SNR CATS THAT COME IN, WE, UH, GET THEM SCHEDULED IN FOR STERILIZATION THROUGH THEM.
THIS IS, THIS IS AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, SO IT'S KIND OF A MISUNDERSTANDING THAT PEOPLE HAD, UH, A NEIGHBOR AND I FOUND A STRAY DOG.
[00:10:01]
SOMEBODY SAID, WE'LL BE OUT TO GET 'EM.WELL, THEN THE OWNER CAME AND I TOLD HER, AND SHE SAYS, OH, NO, I DON'T WANT THEM TO TAKE MY DOG.
SO THERE IS A LOT OF EDUCATION THAT NEEDS TO BE GOING ON.
AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DEAL WITH A LOT, RIGHT.
AND, AND FOR US, EVEN FROM THE FIELD STANDPOINT IS WHAT WE'RE DOING NOW IS IF AN ANIMAL'S MICRO CHIPPED OR HAS TAGS OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE, WE'RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN'T OR TURN THAT DOG TO ITS OWNER IN THE FIELD RATHER THAN BRING IT TO THE SHELTER BECAUSE WE'RE FULL.
AND SO OUR FIELD OFFICERS ARE TRAINED NOW TO DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO FIND THAT OWNER AND GET IT RETURNED TO THEM.
WELL, THAT OWNER FOUND THE DOG.
ARE ALL ANIMALS NEUTERED THAT COME THROUGH THE CENTER? NO.
BEFORE YOU SEND THEM OUT, WE TRY TO
SO WHAT WE DO IS IF WE HAVE TO ADOPT OUT AN ANIMAL THAT IS INTACT, WE GIVE THEM A CONTRACT.
THE STATES, THEY DO HAVE TO GET THE ANIMAL STERILIZED WITHIN 30 DAYS, 60 DAYS, 90 DAYS, WHATEVER WE COME UP WITH.
AND ALSO, LIKE I SAID, WE'RE WORKING WITH O P K, AND SO WE'LL LOOK AT SOME OF THOSE DATES AND WE'LL TRY TO GET THOSE ANIMALS SCHEDULED IN THOSE DATES.
WHAT IS THE, UM, ANIMAL SERVICES THAT'S OVER ON NORTHWEST HIGHWAY THAT DOES SPACES GROUP? I CANNOT THINK OF THE, THEIR NAME.
THAT CLINIC THAT, IT'S A CLINIC THAT'S OVER ON NORTHWEST HIGHWAY.
AC IS, WAS THE, UH, YEAH, THAT'S A LOW COST.
IS IT TCAP? YEAH, THE, THE DCAP.
DID Y'ALL WORK WITH THEM? WE DO NOT.
I USED TO TAKE THEM, BUT, BUT THEY HAVE 'EM IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT CITIES.
THEY POP UP ANIMAL, UH, CATTLE PROTECTION, SOME NAME, NAME.
THERE'S VERY, VERY LITTLE REGULATION.
YOU KNOW, WOULDN'T YOU GUYS DO STERILIZE A FERAL CAT AND RETURN IT BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY? DO YOU, US DO YOU STILL NOTCH WITH DEER? WE DO.
SO IF WE SEE FERAL CATS WITH A NOTCH TEAR, IT'S PROBABLY NOT JUST CAUSE OF A FIGHT.
IF IT'S A CLEAN NOTCH, IT'S PROBABLY, IT'S, IT'S STERILIZED, VACCINATED, AND MORE THAN LIKELY BELONGS TO A COLON MANAGER.
SO WHEN WE STERILIZE THE DOGS, YOU PUT A SERIAL NUMBER ON 'EM OR A TATTOO ON THEIR BELT TATTOO, STILL DO THAT.
HOW COME YOU DON'T TATTOO THE CATS? WE DON'T.
I MEAN, YOU CAN, UH, WE JUST DO THAT.
WE DON'T NOTCH THE DOG EASIER.
UM,
AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I TALK WITH SHELTERS ALL THROUGH NORTH TEXAS.
AND, AND I THINK RIGHT NOW WITH THE WAY THE MARKET IS, AND FOR US, YOU KNOW, I CAN ONLY SPEAK ON US, BUT WE DOUBLE ALMOST TRIPLED IN CAPACITY WITHIN SIX MONTHS.
UM, AND YOU KNOW, YOU AND I HAD THIS CONVERSATION, BUT I THINK WHAT'S HAPPENING IS NOW THAT THE MARKET HAS CHANGED, WE HAVE STAFF THAT ARE LOOKING TO ACTUALLY GET OUT OF ANIMAL WELFARE.
AND THEN WE HAVE SOME THAT ARE LIKE, WELL, YOU KNOW, WE CAN GO TO SMALLER CITIES, BIGGER CITIES, MAKE THE SAME MONEY OR MORE MONEY AND MAYBE NOT DEAL WITH THE CAPACITY THAT WE'RE DEALING WITH NOW.
WE HAVEN'T BEEN FULLY STAFFED SINCE OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR.
AND SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES BECAUSE I MEAN, YOU GUYS KNOW WHEN WE'RE NOT FULLY STAFFED AND WE HAVE TO CARE FOR NEARLY 300 ANIMALS IN OUR SHELTER, WE'RE OVERWORKED, WE'RE TIRED.
AND SO WE ARE WORKING WITH HR ON A DAILY BASIS ON HOW CAN WE FILL THOSE VOIDS.
UM, SO WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE? DO THEY HAVE TO BE LICENSED? DO THEY HAVE TO HAVE A, SOME DEGREE IN SOMETHING? RIGHT.
SO FOR A FIELD OFFICER, YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE YOUR CERTIFICATION.
UM, HOWEVER, WE ARE HIRING GREEN, WE'LL HIRE YOU WITH NO CERTIFICATION.
WE'LL GET YOU PUT YOU THROUGH THE CLASSES, GET YOU TRAINED.
UM, AND THE SHELTER SIDE, THERE'S REALLY NO CERTIFICATIONS.
WE JUST ASK TO HAVE THAT ANIMAL HANDLING EXPERIENCE OR ANIMAL WELFARE EXPERIENCE.
UM, BUT EVEN AT THAT, WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT, WE JUST WANNA HIRE SOMEBODY WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE THAT'S WILLING TO COME TO WORK AND WE CAN TRAIN FOR THE REST.
YOU STILL HAVE THAT YOUNG LADY THAT CARED THE ANIMALS TO THE CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS AND SO ON.
IS SHE STILL DOING THAT? OH, SO AMY DUFFY.
SHE WAS OUR OUTREACH COORDINATOR.
SHE IS NOW A TEACHER FOR G I S T.
WHAT IS SHE TEACHING? UH, I DON'T KNOW.
[00:15:01]
UM, OKAY, I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION.
UM, UH, ARE YOUR STATISTICS AVAILABLE THAT GO OUT FROM ALL YOUR, WHAT YOU, WHAT YOU DO? YEP.
NOW, I WILL SAY WE WERE DORMANT WHEN AMY LEFT.
UM, NOW THAT WE HIRED A NEW OUTREACH COORDINATOR, SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR UPDATING OUR NUMBERS ON OUR WEBPAGE.
AND THEN HERE'S MY LAST QUESTION ON THE BUDGET FOR THIS YEAR.
AN EXTRA $131,000 WAS, UH, ASKED FOR MM-HMM.
SO TWO WERE, WELL, WE ASKED FOR TWO TEMPORARY POSITIONS FOR THE YEAR.
THAT'S TWO FULL-TIME KENNEL TECH POSITIONS TO HELP CLEAN AND PROVIDE FOOD AND THINGS LIKE THAT FOR THE ANIMALS.
UH, WE ALSO HAD AN INCREASE IN FOOD, SO DOG AND CAT FOOD AND THE PRICE THAT, AND IT DID, THE PRICE DID GO UP.
UH, SO I BELIEVE THAT WAS RIGHT AROUND 23 TO $25,000.
I DON'T HAVE IT IN FRONT OF ME.
UM, NOT ONLY THAT, WITH A BRAND NEW SHELTER, UM, FEEL TOO, UM, LANDSCAPING WHERE YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH THAT.
SO YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING, YOU KNOW, UH, YOU HAD GRAVEL.
AT THE OLD SHELTER WE HAD CONCRETE.
SO, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS KIND OF NONEXISTENT AT THE TIME.
SO THAT'S AN ADDITIONAL 32,000.
I THINK I'VE ASKED ALL MY QUESTIONS.
HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING WITH DALLAS COLLEGE? HAS A VET TECH PROGRAM? DALLAS COLLEGE? I DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE D C C D FORMERLY.
SO, WELL, I'LL BE TALKING TO ONE OF THEIR REGENTS TOMORROW MORNING.
JUST HAVE 'EM, IF YOU DON'T MIND, I'LL HAVE 'EM CALL ME.
YOU WANNA PLACE A COUPLE OF, MAYBE YOU CAN HAVE AN INTERN PROGRAM FOR VENT TECH.
AND, AND WE DO, WE HAVE AN INTERN PROGRAM, UH, THAT WE WORK WITH, UH, TECHNOLOGY CENTER.
WELL, BUT THE PROBLEM IS RIGHT NOW, WE CAN'T CONTINUE THAT PROGRAM UNTIL WE GET A FULL-TIME VET THAT'S LICENSED.
SO IN ORDER TO HAVE THE, THE TECHS THERE, THE INTERNS THERE, IT HAS TO BE UNDER A LICENSED VETERINARIAN.
OR MAYBE THEY COULD WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH THEIR INSTRUCTORS SO IT'S YEAH.
OR THAT, AND THEN COME IN AND AT LEAST GET OPPORTUNITY, AT LEAST GET VOLUNTEER HOURS.
UH, WHAT IS YOUR ADOPTION POLICY? UH, PEOPLE CAN ADOPT FROM THE FACILITY, RIGHT? FOR THE HOMES, RIGHT? YES.
WHAT IS THE NORMAL POLICY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PEOPLE POLICIES? I MEAN, WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS BASICALLY NEEDED FOR PEOPLE TO ADOPT THOSE? YEAH, I MEAN, WHAT WE TRY TO DO IS WHAT WE CALL MATCHMAKING.
AND WE TRY TO MATCH THAT DOG WITH THAT PERSON LIFESTYLE.
OR THEY, DO THEY LIVE IN AN APARTMENT? IS IT A TOWN HOME? DO THEY HAVE FENCING? UM, OBVIOUSLY WE CAN'T REFUSE AN ADOPTION BECAUSE THEY LIVE IN AN APARTMENT OR THEY MAY NOT HAVE A FENCE, ALTHOUGH THAT WE DO RECOMMEND THAT THEY DO HAVE THOSE WHEN ADOPTING.
UM, WE REALLY DON'T HAVE SO MUCH A POLICY OF WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR WHEN THEY ADOPT.
WE DO, OUR ADOPTION SPECIALISTS DO A GREAT JOB INTERACTING WITH THE CITIZENS AND THE DOGS THEY'RE INTERESTED IN.
CUZ THEY KNOW THE DOGS IN AND OUT.
AND THEY DO A GREAT JOB OF, OF TRYING TO MATCH THAT, UH, WITH THE, THE POTENTIAL ADOPTER THAT'S COMING IN.
SO HOPE THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AS BEST I COULD.
I DID SEE STEPHANIE THE OTHER DAY.
SHE WENT, SHE DID A SOMETHING AT THIS LAST CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
SHE CAME AND BROUGHT A PUPPY WITH HER.
UM, WHICH EAR IS IT THAT YOU GUYS NOTCH FOR? CATS LEFT EAR.
SO WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER, SIR? AGAIN? HAVE YOUR NUMBER TO CONTACT YOU BARBARA.
I'M SORRY, I'M GIVING YOU MY CELL PHONE.
I'M GONNA GIVE YOU MY DESK PHONE.
NINE SEVEN TWO NINE SEVEN TWO TWO OH FIVE THIRTY FIVE FORTY FIVE.
YOU HAD SPOKEN ABOUT EDUCATION EARLIER.
SO THE TEXAS HUMANE LEGISLATION NETWORK HAS PUT TOGETHER A THIRD GRADE, UH, EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE.
ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THAT? I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT.
UM, I DO WORK WITH TH O N I'VE WORKED ON FOR YEARS.
UM, ACTUALLY WORK CLOSELY WITH SHELBY BAKI IS YOUR NAME.
UM, BUT NO, I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT.
YEAH, I MIGHT JUST F POUR THAT ALONG THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT LEVEL OF EDUCATION OUTREACH YOU DID YOU PLAN ON DOING? MM-HMM.
Y'ALL RUNNING ANY MICROCHIP SPECIALS? SO WE ARE, UM, I
[00:20:01]
HOPE TO GET THOSE DATES OUT SOON.UH, WE HAVE ONE IN NOVEMBER, ONE IN DECEMBER, AND ONE IN JANUARY.
AND WE'RE GONNA TRY THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THOSE MONTHS.
WHAT'S THAT? $10 $20? UH, I BELIEVE IT'S GONNA BE $15 FOR MICROCHIP.
IT'S CURRENTLY 25, RIGHT? YEP.
WHAT'S THE CURRENT COST FOR ADOPTION FEES AND ALL THAT? IT'S, WE'RE RUNNING A, A SPECIAL RIGHT NOW.
IS IT TILL CLEAR? THE SHELTER? WELL, NO.
WE WERE INVOLVED IN CLEAR THE SHELTER, BUT WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE IT BECAUSE WE ARE FOR, WE'RE JUST TRYING TO GET 'EM OUT AS BEST WE CAN.
UM, BUT THE STANDARD COST IS 1 0 5.
HOWEVER, WE DO RUN SPECIALS ALL THROUGH THE YEAR.
BUT THAT DOES INCLUDE SPAY, NEUTERING, ALL THEIR CARGO AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF.
THE FIRST ROUND OF SHOTS, RIGHT? YES SIR.
AND IS THERE A FOLLOW UP ON THOSE SIX MONTHS LATER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT? UH, THERE'S NOT, YEAH, WE JUST, IT'S INITIAL VACCINES DEPENDING ON HOW OLD THE DOG IS, SO.
WELL, I'M GONNA TELL THAT IF PEOPLE WANNA GET A, MAYBE NOT A TOUR, BUT A VIEW OF WHAT'S GOING ON ON THE, UH, SEPTEMBER THE 24TH, THERE'S GONNA BE A GROUP OF US OUT THERE WORKING IN YOUR BIG, UM, MEETING ROOM.
AND ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO COME HELP PACK THINGS CAN SHOW UP AND COME ON.
CAN WALK AROUND AND WALK AROUND.
THAT'S SEPTEMBER THE 24TH FROM NINE TO 12.
ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? NO.
I THINK YOU GUYS DOING A GREAT JOB AFTER.
I CAN ACTUALLY ATTEST FOR THE NEW FACILITY CUZ MY DOGS HAVE ALL COME FROM THE GARLAND ANIMAL SHELTERS.
ALL FOUR OF THEM IN THE OLD SHELTER WAS A FAR CRY FOR THE NEW SHELTER.
IT WAS A GREAT GRAND OPENING AND STUFF, SO IT'S A MARVELOUS FACILITY.
IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN OUT THERE, TAKE A TOUR.
WELL, I'LL JUST INVITE YOU TO GO AND COME HELP US PACK.
I WAS THERE FOR THE GRAND OPENING.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S AN OPERATION THEATER.
IT'S MY FAVORITE PART OF THE BUILDING.
AND PEOPLE, YOU SHOW UP FOR THAT.
BETTY, CAN PEOPLE JUST SHOW UP WHERE THEY NEED TO GET AHOLD OF YOU OR? I THINK IF YOU JUST SHOWED UP, WE'LL PUT PEOPLE TO WORK.
AND THAT'S JUST AT THE NEW GARLAND.
I AT THE AND THE AND THAT HUGE MEETING.
NICE OF YOU TO LOAN OUT THE HE DIDN'T, HE MAY NOT EVEN KNOW IT.
NO, MATT ARRANGED THAT TWO, TWO WEEKS AGO.
THAT'S MICHELLE'S TURNED YOU, YOU AGAIN.
OH, LET'S POP THIS IN HERE BUDDY.
AM I, YEAH, I DON'T WANNA LOOK AT MY CHEAT SHEETS HERE.
WE'RE GONNA GO TO PRESENTATION MODE.
IT'S NOT DOING WHAT I WANT THOUGH.
I CAN'T SEE WHAT I WANT IT TO LIKE MY DESK.
ARE WE RECYCLING RESOURCES? YES.
I HAVE MY CHEAT NOTES AT THE BOTTOM AND I CAN'T SEE 'EM LIKE THIS, SO Y'ALL ARE GONNA HAVE TO BEAR WITH ME.
WE'LL SEE IF I CAN REMEMBER WHAT I WAS GONNA SAY.
I DON'T THINK OF HOW TO DO THAT.
I MEAN, IT DOES IT AUTOMATICALLY AT MY DESK CUZ I'VE GOT THE THREE SCREENS.
SO I WOULD THINK THAT'S ON THE WORKING MODE.
LET ME TRY SEE IF THERE'S ONE OTHER, I THOUGHT THERE WAS A WAY TO TELL IT TO DO PRESENTATION MODE, BUT IT MAY NOT.
WE'RE JUST GONNA GO LIKE THIS.
SO I WAS ABLE AT THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST, INCREDIBLY APPRECIATIVE TO YOUR REEL FOR ALLOWING ME TO GO DOWN TO AUSTIN, ROBERT.
I THINK THAT'S THE, THE ONE THAT YOU TOLD ME ABOUT THE, THE ONE THAT HAPPENED IN WACO OR AUSTIN? I WAS IN AUSTIN.
THE, UH, RESOURCE RECYCLING CONFERENCE.
UM, AND, UH, RESOURCE RECYCLING IS, IS A COMPANY THAT, UM, THEY PUT
[00:25:01]
OUT A LOT OF INFORMATION.UM, OF COURSE THEY DO SEVERAL, THEY HAVE SEVERAL DIVISIONS.
THIS ONE IS SPECIFICALLY FOCUSED ON, UM, MUNICIPALITIES AND MORE RESIDENTIAL KIND OF STUFF.
THEY ALSO HAVE A DIVISION SPECIFICALLY TOWARDS PLASTICS.
AND THEN, I CAN'T THINK OF OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD WHAT THE OTHER ONE IS, BUT HERE IN AUSTIN, UM, IT WAS MOSTLY MUNICIPALITIES THAT GATHERED A LOT OF, UH, DIFFERENT PRESENTATIONS THAT WERE DONE BY PEOPLE IN THE INDUSTRY, LIKE WHETHER THEY WORK IN MEFS OR IF THEY ARE IN, UM, PLASTICS OR GLASS OR METAL RECYCLING.
BUT THEY ALSO HAD SEVERAL CITIES THAT DID PRESENTATIONS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
UM, I KNOW THERE WERE SOME FOLKS THERE ALSO FROM CANADA AS WELL, NOT JUST IN THE US.
SO, UM, THIS IS THE ONLY NATIONAL EVENT AS YOU CAN SEE, DEDICATED TO, UM, MUNICIPAL RECYCLING.
AND, UM, THERE WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION.
UM, WHAT I'M GONNA SHOW YOU TONIGHT IS JUST PROBABLY MY FAVORITE OF THE SESSIONS.
UM, I'M HOPING TO KIND OF GO THROUGH THEM ALL.
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THROUGH MY NOTES, BUT, UM, WE'VE BEEN IMPLEMENTING THAT NEW, UH, PORTAL AND, AND SOFTWARE FOR THE CITY IN THE LAST MONTH.
SO I'VE GOTTEN A LITTLE BIT BEHIND ON THINGS, BUT, UH, THIS WAS, LIKE I SAID, THIS WAS MY FAVORITE ONE AND I JUST GONNA KIND OF GO THROUGH IT.
SO IT WAS ALL ABOUT EV EXCUSE ME, ELEVATING YOUR OUTREACH TO YOUR COMMUNITY.
SO, UM, OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE OUR INFRASTRUCTURE IN PLACE, WHICH IS OUR CURRENT PROGRAM OF RECYCLING.
UM, WE HAVE RESIDENTS WHO WANT TO RECYCLE OR ARE UNSURE ABOUT IT.
SO THE QUESTION IS, HOW DO WE GET THEM TO RECYCLE RIGHT IN THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH.
UM, SO THE AWARENESS, THIS IS WHERE WE STRUGGLE, RIGHT? TRYING TO GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND.
SO OUR OPTIONS FOR HOW AND WHAT THEY CAN RECYCLE ARE OUT THERE THROUGH, YOU KNOW, BILLBOARDS OR, UM, DIRECT MAILERS, THE WEBSITES, SOCIAL MEDIA, OUR CART TAGS THAT WE PUT OUT THERE.
UM, OUR WASTE WIZARD ALSO ONLINE.
UM, ONE OF MY FAVORITE CONCEPTS IS THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.
I'M KIND OF TOYING WITH THAT AND RUNNING IT AROUND IN MY HEAD HOW WE COULD WORK WITH DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS TO GET PEOPLE MORE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN IT.
UM, BUT THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THESE THINGS.
SO AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE'S A LOT GOING ON THERE.
A LOT OF OPTIONS, RIGHT? SO WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT THE THREE KEYS TO ELEVATING OUTREACH.
UM, FIRST THING OFF, KEEP IT SIMPLE.
AS YOU SAW BEFORE, THERE'S SO MANY OPTIONS OUT THERE.
WE COULD GO CRAZY WITH ALL OF THAT, BUT IT WOULD GET OVERWHELMING.
AND YOU GET TO A POINT WHEN YOU'VE GOT A LOT OF STUFF COMING AT YOU THAT YOU JUST ZONE OUT.
YOU KNOW, JUST, I DON'T EVEN WANNA HEAR IT ANYMORE.
YEAH, THAT'S THE, THE RECYCLING PEOPLE, THAT'S THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT, WHATEVER.
AND THEY DON'T HEAR IT ANYMORE.
SO THE AVERAGE ATTENTION SPAN IS EIGHT SECONDS.
SO, UM, AND AS FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON UP TO, UH, SEVEN THINGS, THAT'S THAT SOMEONE CAN REMEMBER IN A SEQUENCE.
SO WE'RE GONNA PLAY A LITTLE GAME, COUPLE OF LITTLE ROUNDS HERE AND I'M GONNA SHOW YOU SOME THINGS.
AND I'M, THIS IS TIMED AND IT SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY ROLL AWAY AFTER EIGHT SECONDS.
WE'RE GONNA START WITH, UM, SEVEN ITEMS. OKAY? WHO CAN NAME THE SEVEN FISH? DEER.
IT'S BEEN A MONTH SINCE I'VE DONE MYSELF.
I WAS SITTING THERE COUNTING HIM OFF, GOING, OKAY, DO I GET HIM ANY? OF COURSE I GOT SIX.
YOU GET SICK? YEAH, THAT'S PRETTY GOOD.
OKAY, SO TO MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER, LET'S TRY IT WITH FIVE.
YEAH, IT IS IT NOT ROLLING OUT.
OH, YOU MIGHT GET EXTRA SECONDS, Y'ALL.
HERE LET'S JUST, UH, TAKE A PICTURE.
OKAY, SO WHITNEY, HOW MANY OF THOSE CAN YOU GET OUTTA 12? ANYBODY THINK THEY CAN DO ALL 12? RIGHT? THAT'S, I'LL TELL YOU WHEN I LOOK AT IT, THE ONLY THING THAT STICKS IN IN MY HEAD IS KANGAROO.
I THINK IT'S THE SIZE OF THAT WORD DOWN THERE.
GECKOS ON TV EVERY DAY, RIGHT? THERE YOU GO,
SO HOW ABOUT FIVE? WE GONNA GET DOWN TO FIVE ITEMS TO RECYCLE.
[00:30:01]
I WOULD WOULD LIKE THAT MIGHT BE DOWN TO THREE.THAT ONE'S A LITTLE EASIER, RIGHT? DOG, CAT, BIRD, HORSE, FISH.
RIGHT? SO FIVE IS GENERALLY FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON, WHAT THEY'RE GONNA REMEMBER.
THAT'S, YOU KNOW, KIND OF GIVES YOU AN IDEA ABOUT THE MAXIMUM THAT WE WOULD WANNA HIT WHEN WE'RE HITTING PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION.
NOW, IF WE DID IT WITH IMAGES SO MUCH EASIER.
YOU KNOW, I MEAN, YOU THINK ABOUT IT, A LOT OF US WHEN WE CAN ASSOCIATE A PICTURE, BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE WORDS, YOU COMES A POINT WHERE YOU'RE JUST SEEING JUST LETTERS, YOU'RE NOT REALLY CLICKING IT.
BUT THESE PICTURES, WHO'S GONNA FORGET THAT PUPPY'S FACE? I MEAN, YOU KNOW, COME ON.
SO THE CONCEPT IS IN WHICH WE'RE ALREADY DOING WITH OUR PROGRAM, IS THE IMAGES.
IF YOU THINK ABOUT, UM, THE TOP OF OUR CONTAINERS, A LOT OF TIMES IF WE PUT OUT FLYERS WHEN WE PUT OUT IMAGES, THESE ARE PRETTY MUCH IDENTICAL.
THEY ARE STANDARD ACROSS THE BOARD.
THESE, THE PICTURES OF CANS, THE CARTONS, THE GLASS, THE PAPER, THE PLASTIC, THEY'RE ALL GENERALLY THE SAME ONES THAT YOU'RE GONNA SEE OUT THERE.
UM, I'VE RECENTLY HAD A COUPLE OF PEOPLE ASK ME FOR A LIST AND I WAS LIKE, YOU'RE REALLY, YOU'RE GONNA GET LOST IN IT.
IF I GAVE YOU A LIST OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU COULD PUT IN THERE, YOUR BEST BET IS JUST GO TO THE WASTE WIZARD AND TYPE IT IN.
IF YOU WANNA RECYCLE IT, IT'LL BE EASIER TO FIGURE IT OUT FROM THERE.
UM, I SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE FIVES, YOU KNOW? OH, JUST TRYING TO, JUST BEING, IT'S TOO MUCH PLASTIC.
OH, THAT MEAN PLASTIC BAGS, RIGHT? YES.
SO EVERYTHING, SO EVERYTHING PLASTIC, THEY'RE THROWING IT IN THERE REGARDLESS.
FILTER IT IN FEAR OF YOU SHOWING UP AND LOOKING THROUGH MY
I'M COMING TO HUNT FOR YOU NOW, YEAH'S.
OUR SECOND KEY IS REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT.
SO I NOTICED WHEN WE WERE GOING THROUGH THE WORDS AND WE HAD 'EM UP THERE THAT SOME OF YOU WERE JUST KIND OF LOOKING AND I COULD SEE YOUR EYES AND YOU'RE JUST DOWN, DUN DOWN.
JUST REPEATING IT, REPEATING IT, TRYING TO GET IT DRILLED INTO YOUR HEAD.
SO, AND, AND WE THINK ABOUT HOW KIDS STUDY FOR SCHOOL, OR I'M STUDYING FOR SCHOOL LIKE THAT I'M REREADING AND READING OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
AND EVEN WHEN I STARTED IN THIS POSITION, THERE WERE A LOT OF THINGS THAT I FOUND THAT I THOUGHT I KNEW, BUT I NEEDED TO LEARN, YOU KNOW, MORE ABOUT.
AND IT'S ALL ABOUT REPETITION AND CONSTANTLY READING THE SAME THINGS.
NOT NECESSARILY THE IDENTICAL THING, BUT YOU JUST KEEP GETTING THAT INFORMATION MORE AND MORE INTO YOUR HEAD.
SO RECYCLING EDUCATION IS NEVER ONE AND DONE WHEN YOU'RE TIRED OF SEEING IT, YOU STILL PROBABLY NEED TO SEE IT, EVEN IF IT'S MAYBE, YOU KNOW, NOT THE SAME DAY, NOT THE NEXT WEEK, BUT MAYBE A MONTH FROM NOW.
YOU MIGHT NEED TO HEAR THAT INFORMATION ONE MORE TIME FOR IT TO REALLY STICK INTO YOUR HEAD.
SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT, UM, WE WORKED ON THIS SUMMER, OZ TOOK THE LEAD ON IT WHILE I WAS STILL WORKING ON THE OTHER, UH, PROGRAM.
AND I AM PICKING IT UP FROM HIM, IS OUR SANITATION QUICK TIPS.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE SEEN THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
WE'VE GOT THEM ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, AND THEN ON INSTAGRAM WE ACTUALLY HAVE REELS AND I THINK I SAW ONE OF 'EM UP ON THIS SCREEN EARLIER.
SO THEY'RE GOING BEING PLAYED OUT ON THE CITY'S UM, UH, INFORMATION PAGE ON THE CABLE NETWORKS AND EVERYTHING.
UM, BUT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE ARE USING THESE TO HIT THOSE THINGS THAT ARE, UM, WE ARE MOST ASKED QUESTIONS AND OUR MOST TROUBLESOME AREAS.
SO WE'RE PUTTING THAT INFORMATION, WE'RE TRYING TO KEEP IT SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD.
WE'VE GOT THIS FORMAT SET UP BECAUSE IT'S NOW BECOMING AFTER, YOU KNOW, 10 SLIDES THAT WE'VE HAD OUT.
UM, IT'S BECOMING IDENTIFIABLE WHEN PEOPLE SEE IT THAT THEY ARE ASSOCIATING IT WITH SANITATION.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT, THIS IS INFORMATION I'M GONNA NEED.
SO THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE'RE GOING WITH THINGS RIGHT NOW AS FAR AS THAT ASPECT.
WE'RE NOT ABANDONING EVERYTHING ELSE.
WE STILL HAVE THIS IDEA OF LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER.
WE STILL ARE DOING OUTREACH, WE'RE STILL GOING TO MEETINGS, WE'RE STILL INTERACTING WITH THE COMMUNITY AND, AND TRYING TO GET OUT THERE INTO THE SCHOOLS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.
UM, AND OF COURSE WE STILL HAVE OUR WASTE WIZARD.
UM, AND THEN THE GOAL RIGHT NOW THOUGH IS GONNA BE THIS REPETITION, LIKE WE SAID, YOU KNOW, KEEPING IT SIMPLE BUT HITTING FOLKS WITH IT MORE AND MORE.
MY GOAL IS OVER THE NEXT EIGHT TO, UH, YEAH, EIGHT TO 10 MONTHS TO PUT THOSE SLIDES.
I'VE GOT TWO MORE IN THE PIPELINE THAT ARE GONNA BE COMING OUT AND THEN WE'RE GONNA ROTATE 'EM.
SO YOU WOULD SEE ONE A WEEK AND THAT INFORMATION WILL COME AND THEN THE NEXT TIME IT COMES AROUND YOU'RE LIKE, OH YEAH, I REMEMBER THAT.
YOU KNOW, OR THEY'RE LIKE, I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THAT AGAIN.
JUST TRYING TO HELP IT KIND OF GET DRILLED AND IMPRINTED, SO TO SPEAK, ON EVERYONE'S MINDS.
SO I WAS JUST CURIOUS, AND THIS IS WHERE I WISH I HAD MY LITTLE NOTES HERE.
UM, HOW I KNOW BETTY, YOU SAID YOU HAVE, YOU, YOU TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS AND EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU COME IN THESE MEETINGS AND GET THE QUESTIONS AND STUFF LIKE THAT AND, AND THEN I GO BACK AND ANSWER 'EM AND GO BACK AND ANSWER 'EM.
BUT I WONDER, DO, UM, DO YOU GUYS OFTEN HAVE PEOPLE FROM YOUR, YOUR AREAS, YOUR DISTRICTS ASK YOU QUESTIONS ABOUT,
[00:35:01]
YOU KNOW, ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH THE BOARD OR SANITATION OR THE RECYCLING DIVISIONS OR TRASH OR BRUSH OR ANY OF THAT? PLUGGED IT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO RAN HOA MEETING.SO THEY'RE JUST THAT HAPPY WITH US.
THEY LOVE US AND THEY HAVE NO COMPLAINTS.
I'M GONNA TAKE IT LIKE THAT
SO CAN YOU REMEMBER THE FIVE DOG CAT FISH HORSE GOT DOG, FISH? YEAH.
I THINK IT WAS BIRD
SO THAT WAS JUST KIND OF THE KIND OF A FUN WAY TO GO INTO, YOU KNOW, WHAT MY GOAL IS GONNA BE WITH THOSE, THOSE QUICK TIPS IDEAS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS.
AND THEN I'D, I'D LIKE TO, UM, TO COME BACK.
I'M, I'M HOPING YOU'RE ABLE TO INVITE ME BACK AGAIN
CUZ THERE WAS JUST, THERE WAS SO MUCH, IT WAS REALLY, I STARTED TO GIVE YOU KIND OF A BIG OVERVIEW AND I THOUGHT THERE'S NO WAY I'M GONNA GET INTO THIS AND WE'LL BE HERE FOR THREE DAYS JUST LIKE I WAS.
SO IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE, KIND OF NARROW IT DOWN.
BUT DID ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME THIS EVENING OR, YEAH.
DO YOU PLAN ON WHEN THEY, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE HAVING THE LOTTERY FOR THE PARTY TRAILER? MM.
DO YOU PLAN ON GOING OUT WITH THAT OR SENDING SOMEBODY OUT WITH THAT? UH, NO.
OH, YOU HAVE A CAPTIVE AUDIENCE? NO ONE HAS EVER ASKED ME TO, BUT I COULD PROBABLY TALK WITH HER.
DO THEY NOT HAVE ONE IN THERE? I DON'T THINK SO.
I MIGHT HAVE TO TALK TO MY FRIEND NANCY AND FIND OUT THAT LOTTERY IS ON IN THE TRAILER.
NATIONAL, NATIONAL, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT.
BUT I THINK ANYTIME WE SEND THAT OUT, I'M SITTING HERE TRYING TO THINK, I MIGHT HAVE A NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION PARTY THAT NIGHT THAT I'VE ALREADY COMMITTED TO, SO, BUT I'LL HAVE TO, I'LL LOOK AND SEE, SEE WHAT IT IS WE WANT.
I'M SURE JIM WOULD BE GLAD TO GO OUT AND REPRESENT YOU
ALL RIGHT, WELL THANK YOU GUYS.
WHAT WAS, WHAT'S I'M NOT MY DAUGHTER SIMPLIFYING THINGS.
WHAT'S, WHAT'S THE FILE THAT SAYS BTEX ON IT? I'M SORRY'S THE FILE THAT SAYS BTEX.
I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WOULD BE.
I JUST CAUGHT MY EYE WHEN YOU I'LL HAVE TO, I'LL HAVE TO, I WILL LOOK TOMORROW AND LET YOU KNOW.
BUT PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ON HERE IS GONNA HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH WORK.
BUT YOU DO YOU A HAUNTED RECYCLING BIN OR SOMETHING? THAT'S WHAT I'M DOING.
MISS, YOU'VE GOTTA CUT SOME LEG HOLES IN ONE ARM.
HOLES? NO, I'VE GOT A RAIN BARREL THAT I'VE GOT HOLLOWED FOR THAT.
IT'S A, IT'S A RADIOACTIVE WAIST BARREL NOW.
YEAH, WE'RE HAVING A BIG COMMUNITY HALLOWEEN AT OUR PLACE.
IT IS, ISN'T IT? OH, I'LL, LET ME TURN MY LITTLE THING OVER SO I CAN COVER EVERYTHING I, I WANNA COVER AND UH, UM, ROBERT WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING YOU WANT TO YOU NOW OR YOU WANT TO JUMP IN THE MIDDLE ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID YOU WANTED SOMETHING TO SAY ON OUR, MY REPORT? OH NO, I JUST ASKED YOU TO DO IT QUICKLY.
ROBERT, YOU'RE ASKING THE IMPOSSIBLE
CAUSE THEY'RE RECORDING A LOT OF TIMES.
I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER SEPTEMBER THE 22ND IS NOR TEXAS GIVING DAY.
AND WHEN YOU GO ONLINE, BE SURE AND REMEMBER THAT KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL CAN TAKE YOUR DONATIONS.
UH, SEPTEMBER THE 24TH, THAT WORK DAY AT THE, UH, ANIMAL SHELTER FROM NINE TO 12.
UM, OCTOBER THE FIRST IS TRI-CITY CLEANUP.
AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM VERY MANY PEOPLE ABOUT THAT.
BUT WE, UH, LAST WEEK WHEN WE HAD OUR MEETING OF PEOPLE, MARTHA SAID THAT 75 PEOPLE HAD SIGNED UP IN THE FIRST WEEK.
UM, AND BUT SEE THAT, LET ME SAY THAT WEBSITE IS NOT USER FRIENDLY CUZ IT'S JUST LISTS OF ROW PROJECTS.
WELL, I SAW ONE GIRL AND ONE ON HER, BUT THEN, BUT THEN, YOU KNOW, BUT THEN YOU SAID YOU CAN PICK YOUR OWN AREAS.
[00:40:01]
BUT THERE'S NO WAY TO REGISTER YOUR TEAM ON THERE.WELL, YOU CAN TELL ME AND I'LL AND THAT'S WHAT WE COMMUNICATED.
BUT, AND I, I THINK PEOPLE ARE KIND OF GETTING CONFUSED WHEN THEY GOT THERE AND LOOK AT THAT.
BUT, UH, A NANCY, UH, NELL IS TRYING TO GET THAT CLEANED UP AND YOU MIGHT CHECK AGAIN AND SEE IF SHE'S, IF THAT HAS HAPPENED, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME I GAME TO BE DOING THAT? I DON'T KNOW.
BUT THERE ARE 13 SIGNS IN GARLAND THAT PEOPLE CAN GO TO.
AND ONE PERSON HAS ALREADY, UH, I KNOW HAS SIGNED UP FOR JOHN PAUL JOHN'S PARK.
BUT THAT'S THE ONLY ONE I KNOW OF.
SEND MARTHA A MESSAGE AND SAY NO, I THINK IT'S TOO LATE TO CLEAN IT UP.
I JUST THINK NEXT TIME YOU NEED TO ACTUALLY, IT'S A GREAT TIME TO GET READY FOR NEXT YEAR.
UH, YOU KNOW, I'LL TELL THEM I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THAT.
WELL I THINK PART OF IT IS THAT ROW IS THE HOST THIS YEAR, RIGHT.
CAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE, IT LOOKED LIKE THEY SET IT UP.
SO I GUESS WHATEVER CITY'S THE HOST.
WELL NOW MATT HAS, MATT HAD, WE HAD NO HOST.
UH, MATT HAS WORKED WITH THEM TOO ON IT.
I CAN CHECK WITH MATT AND NANCY AND UM, UH, PAULA, UH, ALL SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT FOR NEXT YEAR.
WE HAD THAT COMPLAINT LAST YEAR TOO.
AND SO WE CHANGED, THEY CHANGED THE FORMAT.
UM, YEAH, I WASN'T SAY BETTY WHEN I, I SIGNED UP MY WHOLE FAMILY AND UH, I DIDN'T GET THOSE OPTIONS TO SELECT LOCATIONS.
I WAS ASKING MICHELLE TO SEE IF YOU KNEW IF SHE KNEW ANYTHING AND BUT NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, JUST ONE THAT YEAH MAN, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING EITHER.
SO
WE CAN PUT IT ON THE KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL WEBSITE IF YOU WANT.
IT IS ON THE KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL WEBSITE ON THE MANY WEBSITE.
I NEED HOW MANY WEBSITES I NEED TO, I DON'T KNOW THAT, IS THERE A LINK FROM THE TRI-CITY? THAT'S WHAT TRIS MIGHT BE GOOD TO GET WITH NANCY.
IT IS THE TRUST TO CLARIFY WHAT'S GOING ON.
CAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE, LIKE, I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE WE'RE GONNA GET A FOLLOW UP EMAIL SAYING, HEY, THIS ARE THE LOCATIONS AVAILABLE AND WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANYTHING.
AND I MEAN, WE JUST, WHAT, A COUPLE OF WEEKS AWAY IN THE MOR IN THE, IN THE MORNING I'LL CONTACT MARTHA AND NANCY AND THAT'S THE TWO THAT I KNOW, I KNOW WHERE TO GO TO.
ACTUALLY THE PERSON THAT SET IT UP IS IN THE DALLAS.
SHE'S THE, SO THERE'S NO AT HER NAME TO THE LIST.
I'LL, I'LL CHECK WITH THEM AND SEE.
WE GOT TRI-CITY CLEANUP AND IF YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE, JUST CONTACT ME AND I'LL, I'LL GIVE YOU IN A PLACE TO CLEAN YOU AND ALWAYS CLEAN BEHIND MY HOUSE IN THAT CREEK.
THOSE DATES, THOSE ARE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER.
WAS THAT FAST ENOUGH? YES, MA'AM.
NEXT RECOGNITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT.
HERE'S YOUR ANOTHER DATE TO REMEMBER.
OCTOBER THE 18TH AS A CITY COUNCIL MEETING NIGHT.
AND UH, DAVID PARRISH WILL BE THE RECIPIENT OF OUR RECOGNITION.
AND DO Y'ALL KNOW DAVID PARRISH? DOES EVERYBODY KNOW HIM? MM-HMM.
UH, SO WE LIKE FOR AS MANY PEOPLE FROM THE COMMITTEE TO OUR BOARD TO BE AT THE MEETING.
IT'S THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT SEVEN O'CLOCK ON OCTOBER THE 18TH.
I'M SLOWLY PUTTING IT INTO MUD.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, LOTS OF STUFF GOING ON WITH COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
UM, THE FALL ON V GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATIONS ARE DUE SEPTEMBER 23RD.
AND I KNOW EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT THOSE BY NOW, BUT, SO THE APPLICATION GRANT APPLICATION DATE IS FRIDAY, FEB, UH, SEPTEMBER 23RD.
ALSO SEPT WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH IS NATIONAL GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY.
SO IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS, INVITE 'EM OVER, CELEBRATE AWARENESS AND PRACTICE SAFETY IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS, THAT SORT OF THING.
THAT'S WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH.
UM, THE APPLICATIONS FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, UH, LET'S SEE, WHAT IS THAT? NATIONAL NIGHT OUT NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY TRAILER OR, OKAY, SOMEBODY MENTIONED THAT EARLIER THERE.
THE OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY IS DOING A, A RAFFLE FOR THE BLOCK PARTY TRAILER TO BE SENT OUT FOR NATIONAL NEIGHBOR, UH, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, WHICH IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2ND.
THE APPLICATIONS TO RECEIVE THE BLOCK PARTY TO COME TO
[00:45:01]
YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ARE DUE BY SEPTEMBER 18TH.THE AWARD, THE WINNER WILL BE AWARDED ON SEPTEMBER 20TH, WHEN WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON SEPTEMBER 20TH.
SO YOU CAN SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION TO GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG, GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS.ORG.
AND UH, APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY SEPTEMBER 18TH.
THE WINTER WILL BE ANNOUNCED SEPTEMBER 20TH.
AND THERE'S ALL SORTS OF STUFF IN THE PARTY WAGON, BUT IT'S MOSTLY JUST PREP STUFF.
UH, THERE'S A FEW GAMES THAT'S TABLES AND CHAIRS AND STUFF LIKE THAT THEY DO NEED TO ADD.
SO WE NEED TO, ONE OF US NEEDS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM AND TELL 'EM TO ADD A RECYCLING BIN TO THAT IF THEY DON'T REALLY HAVE ONE.
THAT WOULD ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO RECYCLE AND NOT THROW STUFF AWAY.
ALSO, HERE'S SOMETHING THAT'S RIGHT UP MY ALLEY.
UH, THERE IS, THE WATER DEPARTMENT IS GONNA BE HOSTING A FALL RAIN BARREL SALE.
SO YOU CAN ORDER A, A GARLAND.
IN FACT, I'VE GOT A PICTURE OF IT HERE.
THEY'RE REALLY NICE GARLAND RAIN BARREL.
YEAH, BUT I GOTTA BE HONEST WITH YOU CUZ I MAKE THESE, THAT APERTURE'S ABOUT THE CHEAPEST APERTURE IN THE SMALLEST SIZE BIGOT YOU CAN GET.
SO I USED, JUST SO YOU'LL KNOW, FOUR 50 PSI UH, AQUARIUM BULKHEAD, THEIR INDUSTRIAL AQUARIUM BULKHEADS.
I DROPPED ONE OFF A TRUCK ONE TIME AND IT GOT HIT BY A SEMI AND SCOOTED 300 YARDS DOWN THE HIGHWAY.
DIDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT AT THE TOP.
SO JUST GONNA SAY THAT THING WOULD'VE BEEN, IT WOULD'VE BEEN DESTROYED.
I PUT MINE OFF UNLOADING IT FROM THE TRUCK.
SO THEY'RE, THEY'RE REAL CHEAP.
BUT THE GOOD NEWS FOR ME IS IT SAYS ON HERE THAT THEY'RE, THEY'RE SELLING FOR $78 EACH AT THE NORMAL RETAIL FOR 139.
I GOTTA BUMP MY PRICES UP CUZ I'VE BEEN SELLING FOR A HUNDRED DOLLARS
SO NOW THE PRICES JUST WENT UP IN Y'ALL'S NEIGHBORHOOD.
UM, THIS IS BY GARLAND UTILITIES, UH, WATER UTILITIES DEPARTMENT.
AND THE DATE FOR, LET'S SEE, YOU CAN, THE DEADLINE TO PLACE YOUR ORDERS IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH AT 11:00 PM YOU HAVE TO PICK 'EM UP AT THE WATER, UM, AT THE WATER DEPARTMENT ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY.
NOVEMBER 1ST OR SECOND BETWEEN THREE AND 7:00 PM THEY SAID THEY CAN PUT FOUR.
MINE ARE 55, BUT THEY'RE, AND THEY'RE BLACK AND THEY'RE, YOU KNOW, THEY DO, YEAH, THEY'RE A LITTLE TALL AND THEY'RE KIND OF THIN.
BUT I, I WILL CAUTION YOU, THE OUTFLOWS BIGOT IS RATHER CHEAPLY MADE AND IT'S JUST A PLUGIN.
IT'S NOT A, IT'S NOT A SEALED IN BULKHEAD LIKE, LIKE SOME PEOPLE USE.
IF ANYBODY WANTS TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS, I HAVE IT.
UH, ALSO AND THAT THEY'RE SELLING 'EM FOR $78, WHICH IS A REAL GOOD PRICE.
UH, YOU'LL HAVE TO ARRANGE IT TO WORK IT WITH YOUR GUTTER.
SO YOU MAY HAVE TO BUY JAL FOR YOUR GUTTER.
UM, ALSO GP AND L AND PARKS AND THE CULTURAL ARTS DEPARTMENT ARE DOING A FREE, FREE TREE GIVEAWAY.
THIS THEY USED TO DO EVERY YEAR.
THEY, I THINK THEY QUIT A COUPLE YEARS AND THAT REGISTRATION FOR THAT IS OCTOBER 3RD.
UM, THEY PICK UP SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH.
SO THE REGISTRATION IS FROM OCTOBER 3RD TO OCTOBER 28TH.
AND UH, YOU CAN CALL 9 7 2 2 0 5 3 5 8 9, UH, FOR INFORMATION.
OR YOU CAN JUST REGISTER BEGINNING OCTOBER 3RD.
UM, IN THE PAST THEY'VE DONE SHARD OAKS, RED OAKS, LIVE OAKS, UH, AND ONE OTHER, I FORGET ONE CHI CHIP EQUIP, WHATEVER JACOB PEN.
SO MOSTLY OAK TREES CUZ THEY'RE LONG, THEY'RE LONG LIVED AND THEY'RE PRETTY RESILIENT EXCEPT WHEN WE HAD THE ICE FREEZE, WHICH KILLED A LOT OF LIVE OAKS.
UH, ALSO SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH IS THE GARLAND GUZZLER FROM SIX TO 9:00 PM IT'S A HALF MILE.
SO IF ANYBODY CAN'T DO A HALF MILE, NOT A HALF MILE, IT'S NOT A HALF MILE.
FIVE 0.5 MILES, 0.50, THAT'S, YOU KNOW, LIKE 10.
IT'S IT'S A HALF OF A, IT'S IT'S HALF A, IT'S HALF A KILOMETER WHATEVER WAS GOOD AT MATH.
SO HALF AROUND THE PARKING LOT OF THE LIBRARY.
SO IT'S LESS THAN A 10TH OF A MILE.
PATRICK GAVE HALF OF A 10TH OF A MILE.
I, I THOUGHT WELL THAT'S YEAH.
POINT THREE ONE MILES CUZ THE KILOMETERS 0.62 MILES.
[00:50:01]
YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAIN FOR THAT, DO YOU? MM-HMM.THAT'S AT THE CENTRAL PARK LIBRARY.
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, THE SHORES OF WELLINGTON IS HOSTING A COMMUNITY HALLOWEEN BASH.
I'VE ALWAYS DONE A, FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS, I'VE DONE A BIG HALLOWEEN BASH AT MY HOUSE.
AND I USUALLY HAVE ANYWHERE FROM THIS.
THE LEAST AMOUNT WAS DURING THE LAST TWO COVID YEARS, BUT THE LEAST AMOUNT OF KIDS I HAD WAS 58.
AND I HAVE TO KEEP TRACK CAUSE I HAVE TO KNOW HOW MUCH CANDY TO BUY.
LAST YEAR THE MAYOR WAS OUT, HE HUNG OUT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF WITH US JUST MEETING AND GREETING PEOPLE WHILE WE'RE SCARING LITTLE KIDS AND PUTTING 'EM INTO YEARS OF TORTURE THERAPY.
UM, BUT THIS YEAR THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD IS GETTING INVOLVED IN IT.
WE'RE GONNA BLOCK OFF THE STREET IN FRONT.
I LIVE AT A T-BONE INTERSECTION IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, SO WE'RE GONNA BLOCK OFF THE STREET.
I'M GONNA DO MY THING AT MY HOUSE.
THE NEIGHBORS ARE GONNA USE THE CORNERS THERE TO PUT TENTS UP.
WE'RE HAVING, WE'RE DOING A NUCLEAR MELTDOWN, SO IT'S ZOMBIES, THAT SORT OF THING.
UM, AND THEY'LL, WE'LL HAVE A TRIAGE CENTER.
WE'RE TRYING TO GET THE, AN AMBULANCE TO COME AND JUST BE A PROP, YOU KNOW, BUT WE'LL HAVE A TRIAGE CENTER THERE AND WE'LL PUT, YOU KNOW, STICK 'EM ON TATTOOS FOR THE KIDS.
AND BAND-AIDS, WE'RE GONNA INOCULATE THEM WHEN THEY COME IN.
UH, WE'LL HAVE JELLO SHOTS FOR THE KIDDIES AND JELLO SHOTS FOR THE ADULTS.
BUT WE DO WANNA GET, UM, I'VE TALKED TO TWO COUNCIL PEOPLE WHO WILL PROBABLY BE THERE.
THE MAYOR WILL PROBABLY BE THERE AGAIN THIS YEAR.
WE'LL GET SOME, SOME VIPS FROM SEVERAL CITY, UH, DEPARTMENTS AND WE INVITE YOU GUYS TO COME AND JOIN.
I'M SURE MR. PC WILL PROBABLY BE THERE CUZ HE LIVES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
BUT IT'S GONNA BE A LOT OF FUN.
WE, WE ANTICIPATE PROBABLY 150 TO 180 KIDS THIS YEAR CUZ WE'RE GONNA GO ALL OUT.
UM, BUT IT'S A, IT'S A COOL DEAL.
WE INVITE YOU TO COME JOIN OUT.
IT'S THE SATURDAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN CUZ NOT, YOU KNOW, HALLOWEEN'S A SCHOOL NIGHT AND DON'T WANNA BE INTERFERING WITH THAT.
BUT IT'S THE SATURDAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN.
IT'LL BE AT THE SHORES OF WELLINGTON AND MORE INFORMATION.
HEY, APPRECIATE, APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS.
WE'RE ALSO HAVING A, UH, DOGGY POO.
WE, WE HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED IT YET.
YOU HAVEN'T, YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT.
BUT THE LAST DAY, THE POOL, OUR NEIGHBORHOOD POOL IS OPEN.
WE'RE GONNA INVITE EVERYBODY OVER AND HAVE A LITTLE PARTY, UH, AT THE POOL CUZ IT'S THE LAST DAY AT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2ND, UH, FROM THREE TO SIX.
GOTTA WAIT UNTIL THE COWBOY GAME'S OVER.
UM, OTHER THAN THAT, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.
YOU LEFT OUT SOMETHING IMPORTANT AND THAT'S ON NOVEMBER THE 12TH.
IS THAT, UH, UM, SUMMIT AND PLANO? THAT'S FOR, I KNOW WE'VE ONLY COVERED THAT A HUNDRED TIMES.
I KNOW, BUT WE'RE GONNA ANNOUNCE IT AGAIN.
WHAT IS IS REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT.
YOU KNOW THAT
WELL, WE'RE GOING TO KEEP DOING IT.
DO WE HAVE ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS OR INITIATIVES? AS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, ROBERT AND I RAN INTO EACH OTHER LAST MONTH AND BROUGHT UP THE SIDEWALKS AGAIN.
AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE, UH, IT'S A SHAME THAT WE HAVE A, THE, THE BIG TRAIN STATION AND PEOPLE HAVE TO WALK IN THE MUD TO LEAVE THE TRAIN STATION TO, TO GO SOMEWHERE.
THERE'S TRAILS GOING DOWN WALNUT WHERE PEOPLE WALK EVERY DAY FROM THE TRAIN STATION TO GO HOME.
AND UH, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE CITY WITH THE REVITALIZATION DOWNTOWN WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN THE, THE TRAIN STATION TO BE MORE OF A SHOWPIECE THAN IT IS.
AND SO MAYBE WE CAN BRING BACK THE PEOPLE THAT DO SIDEWALKS AGAIN AND, UH, MAYBE WE COULD BEAT THEM UP A LITTLE BIT, ROBERT.
YEAH, AND LET ME JUST ADD TO THAT CAUSE I'M KINDA LIKE, ALMOST LIKE TO SEE WHAT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD CITIES ARE DOING.
AND SO THIS IS IN THE DALLAS PAPER AND SO ONE OF THE QUESTIONS I'M GONNA HAVE FOR THEM IS HOW MUCH DISTANCE IN MISSING SIDEWALKS HAVE THEY IDENTIFIED? YEAH.
HOW MUCH HAVE THEY IDENTIFIED IN SIDEWALKS THAT NEED TO BE REPAIRED? AND THEN WE UH, ANOTHER TEACHER, UH YEAH.
IS THEY HAVE THE DART REP COME IN CUZ YOU KNOW, THE CITY'S GETTING BACK A REFUND FROM DART.
I'M KIND OF CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT'S BEING CONSIDERED TO SPEND THOSE FUNDS ON.
DO WE HAVE WHO EMPTIES THE TRASH CANS BY THE DART STATION? BY THE THEY DO.
HOW WEIRD, HOW WEIRD THEY SHOULD CONTRACT WITH THE CITY TO DO THAT.
WELL IT REQUIRES DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT.
YEAH, IT DOES REQUIRES THE OLD SCHOOL TRASH TRUCK.
WHAT'S THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF RIDING ON THE BACK OF THE TRASH TRUCK? DON'T LOOK,
[00:55:01]
GO, DON'T LOOKI WOULD SAY THE ONLY GO DON'T AT A, WHEN I WAS TRAIN THE TRUCK DRIVERS, WE HAD A 20 YEARS SANITATION WORKER FROM DALLAS.
HE RETIRED AFTER 20 YEARS AND WENT TO DRIVE A TRUCK AND HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY TEETH ON THE TOP.
AND HE SAID, THAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU, YOU TRAIN THE GUYS NOT TO LOOK.
HE SAID, I GOT CURIOUS ONE DAY, LOOKED OUT AND CAUGHT A SIGN.
RAIN THE TEETH, HE SAID, SO NEVER LOOK BACK ON THAT SIDEWALK ISSUE.
ONE THING THAT THE ARTICLE MENTIONS IN HERE IS, IS WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN IF THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WAS TO COME IN TO A CITY AND TAKE ON A DISABILITY COMPLAINT? THEY WERE NOT COMPLIANT WITH ABSOLUTELY.
THE ADA EIGHT ON THE SIDEWALK ISSUE.
WELL I THINK THE ADA IS A WHOLE NOTHER TOPIC BECAUSE WE HAVE MANY SIDEWALKS IN GARLAND THAT HAVE UTILITY POLES RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALK, PARTICULARLY IN DISTRICT THREE.
I KNOW THAT A BUNCH OF 'EM ALONG BROADWAY, I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE HAVE THE LITTLE MOTORIZED, UH, WHEELCHAIRS HAVE TO GO DOWN INTO THE STREET AT A DRIVEWAY AND THEN COME BACK UP THE NEXT DRIVEWAY AND ACTUALLY DRIVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS ENOUGH ROAD AND A CAR YEAH.
SO YEAH, I'D BE INTERESTED IN THAT AS WELL.
BOB, UNDER THE ANNOUNCE, UNDER THE ANNOUNCEMENT, ARE OUR ELECTIONS NEXT MONTH.
HMM? YOU PLUG FOR THAT? ANYBODY WANNA RUN FOR SOMETHING? THIS IS, THIS IS EVERYONE'S OPPORTUNITY.
AND I THINK I SAW SOMEBODY BACK THERE BESIDES, BESIDES ISAAC.
IT'S MY GUESS, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF SHE WANTS TO SAY ANYTHING.
OUR NEXT MEETING IS OCTOBER 12TH, WHICH DIDN'T THEY, IT USED TO BE COLUMBUS DAY.
IT IS, IT IS INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.
IT, IT'S, WELL SINCE COLUMBUS DIDN'T ACTUALLY DISCOVER AMERICA, I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.
