OH MY GOD.

WHEN

[00:00:01]

YOU'RE READY, BOB.

I GET WE'LL.

HIT THE RECORDING BUTTON WHEN YOU'RE READY.

[ Environmental and Community Advisory Board on July 13, 2022.]

ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY READY? LET'S HIT.

IS IT TIME FOR A ROLL CALL? START WITH DISTRICT ONE.

COMES HERE.

DISTRICT TWO, DISTRICT THREE.

ME, BOB BRUNS, TAKE FOUR.

SHE WAS A TWO SEVEN.

ALL RIGHT.

DISTRICT FIVE.

DEPUTY ROBERTS, DISTRICT SIX.

PATRICIA HANSON, DISTRICT EIGHT.

ROB, KEN, MAYORS, APPOINTEE, PRESENT.

ALL RIGHT.

SO I WAS NOT HERE LAST WEEK, SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON, BUT WE SHOULD CONSIDER THE MINUTES FROM LAST WEEK.

.

HAS ANYBODY LOOKED AT 'EM? YES.

YES.

YES.

WELL, YOU WOULD, YOU WOULD KNOW BETTER THAN ME, BUT I'M SO MAD I MISSED THE SPECIAL EVENTS.

IT'S QUITE A BIT.

IT WAS GOOD.

YEAH.

DID ANYBODY WANT TO, I HAVE WEEKS.

.

MAKE A MOTION, EXCEPT YES.

MINUTES WAS PRESENTED.

ALL RIGHT.

SECOND THAT SECOND IT.

ALL RIGHT.

AYE, AYE.

AYE.

AYE, AYE.

OKAY.

GO AWAY.

RIGHT.

WHAT DO WE HAVE TODAY? RECYCLE CARD.

IT'S ALL YOU.

ALL RIGHT.

I'M, I'M HERE.

THIS ONE, .

OH, WHICH, WELL, ARE WE DOING CART AUDIT OR GO? I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH ONE'S FIRST CART.

AUDIT CARD.

AUDIT CARD AUDIT.

OH, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO FAR.

.

OH, SORRY.

OH, DID IT JUST DROP? YOU KNOW, YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT, BUT IT HAPPENS TO ME EVERY TIME I SEE IT.

.

ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY.

GOOD EVENING.

UM, I HAVE BEEN TALKING WITH OZ AND MURIEL FOR PROBABLY AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN IN THIS POSITION FOR OUTREACH ABOUT DOING CART AUDITS.

AND WE FINALLY WERE ABLE TO START IT UP LAST WEEK.

GOOD.

SO, UH, BASICALLY WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IS CONTAMINATION IN OUR RECYCLE BINS, WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS A PROBLEM.

AND, UM, WHAT WE'VE NOTICED IS THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S, IT'S ON THE RISE.

IT'S GETTING WORSE AND WORSE, AND WE'RE SEEING THAT IN OUR REPORTS FROM FCC EVERY MONTH.

SO THAT'S WHAT I'M HERE TO TALK WITH YOU GUYS ABOUT.

SO, STARTING OFF, WHAT EXACTLY IS A CART AUDIT? SO IT'S BASICALLY THE WHOLE PURPOSE IS TO IDENTIFY STUFF IN THE CART THAT DOESN'T BELONG THERE AND LET THE RESIDENT KNOW.

SO, IN TWOFOLD, BASICALLY WE'RE GONNA GONNA EDUCATE THE CITIZENS BY TELLING THEM SPECIFICALLY WHAT ITEMS THEY HAD IN THERE THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN, AND THEN, UM, TEACH THEM HOW TO DO IT CORRECTLY.

AND THIS ALSO HELPS US IDENTIFY THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANNA LEARN OR DON'T WANNA HAVE A BLUE CARD, AND WOULD RATHER WE JUST PULL IT.

AND THAT PREVENTS CONTAMINATION AS WELL.

SO WHAT WE'VE BEEN USING IS WHAT WE'RE CALLING A CART AUDIT TALLY SHEET.

UH, THIS IS AN IMAGE KIND OF SHOWING WHAT WE'VE GOT ON THERE.

UH, WHAT WE DO IS WE LOOK IN THE HISTORY OF, UH, BANNER, THE SYSTEM WHERE WE TAG THE DIFFERENT, UM, DIFFERENT HOUSES AND THE DIFFERENT ISSUES THAT THEY HAVE.

AS FAR AS OUR SANITATION DEPARTMENT GOES.

WE CAN SEARCH SPECIFICALLY FOR RECYCLING CONTAMINATION WHENEVER THEY'VE BEEN TAGGED FOR THAT.

UH, WHAT WE DID THIS GO ROUND WAS JUST LOOK BACK THROUGH JANUARY.

SO WE TOOK IT FROM SIX MONTHS AND WE WENT IN AND PINPOINTED ON A LOT OF MAPS.

YES, .

AND WE NOTED EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD AND EVERY HOUSEHOLD BLOCK THAT HAD CONTAMINATION.

UM, WE THEN PUT IT INTO, UM, A GOOGLE MAP WITH THE SPECIFIC PINS ON IT BASED ON THEIR DONE BY COLOR.

AND THEY'RE ALSO BROKEN DOWN BY DAY OF THE WEEK AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT, SO THAT WE CAN FIND THOSE.

AND TO START IT OFF, WE, UH, TAKE TUESDAY YELLOW WEEK, BECAUSE THAT WAS LAST WEEK SINCE WE STARTED WITH JULY.

AND WE JUST PULL UP THAT ONE SECTION AND WE LOOK AND SEE WHERE ARE THEY THE MOST PINS.

AND THEN WE HAVE DROPPED IT DOWN TO A TWO TO THREE BLOCK AREA, AND WE MAKE THIS LITTLE LIST.

WE PUT THE STREET, THE HOUSES THAT WE'RE GONNA HIT.

AND THEN, UH, WE'LL GO AHEAD AND INDICATE ON HERE THAT IT'S YELLOW.

AND THAT IS REALLY JUST FOR US, BECAUSE WE'RE SAVING THESE SHEETS.

THIS IS JUST A SMALL SECTION OF IT.

UH, THE PLAN IS TO VISIT THEM, UM, FOUR TIMES TOTAL.

SO WE'LL HAVE OUR FIRST AND THEN THREE FOLLOW UPS, AND IT'LL, UH, WE BASICALLY JUST GO IN ABOUT SEVEN IN THE MORNING AND PEEK IN THE CARTS ALL THROUGH THE BLOCK WITH OUR LITTLE CLIPBOARD, AND WE MARK WHETHER OR NOT THERE'S CONTAMINATION.

UM,

[00:05:01]

AFTER WE'VE DONE THAT, IF WE FIND SOMETHING THAT'S CONTAMINATED, WE USE WHAT THE, THE DRIVERS USE AS AN OOPS TAG.

AND IT'S GOT THAT CUTE LITTLE GIRL ON IT, LIKE, OH, WE KNOW YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT, SO HERE'S HOW YOU FIX IT.

UM, OUR MAJOR ISSUES THAT WE'VE HAD IN THE PAST HAVE BEEN, UH, HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS OR, YOU KNOW, PAINTS, THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE IN THERE.

THE TANKERS, WHICH IS OF COURSE, THE PLASTIC BAGS AND WIRES AND CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, THOSE KIND OF THINGS, THOSE LONG STRINGY THINGS.

UM, THIS IS REALLY SMALL TO SEE, SO I'M GONNA TURN AROUND .

UM, IT'S SMALL UP THERE TOO.

IT IS SMALL UP HERE TOO, ISN'T IT? UH, BUT BASICALLY TO LIKE OUR PROPANE TANKS, WHICH WE ACTUALLY CAUGHT SOME LAST WEEK.

UM, BUT WE'LL HAVE THOSE KIND OF ITEMS IN THERE.

AND THEN THERE'S A SECTION FOR NOTES, SO YOU CAN GET MORE DETAIL AND EXPLAIN TO THEM, THIS IS WHAT'S IN YOUR CART.

UM, AND THEN WE NEED YOU TO TAKE IT OUT IN ORDER FOR US TO COLLECT IT NEXT TIME.

IF THERE'S A LARGE QUANTITY, IF IT'S A SMALL THING LIKE TANKERS, I ALWAYS SEAL THE CART.

IF IT'S SOMETHING LIKE ONE OR TWO PLASTIC BAGS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, I WILL GO AHEAD AND I'LL LET IT GO THROUGH.

BUT I PUT A TAG ON THE BACKSIDE WHERE THEY WOULD GRAB IT SO THEY CAN'T MISS THE TAG AND LET THEM KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, NEXT TIME, DON'T PUT THESE IN THERE OR WE'RE NOT GONNA PICK IT UP.

AND BY TRACKING IT ON THAT SHEET, WE'RE MAKING NOTES OF WHAT WE FOUND AT THE RESIDENCE SO THAT WE KNOW IF IT'S THERE AGAIN, THEY'RE NOT LISTENING AND THEY'RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION OR THEY'RE NOT READING IT, AND WE NEED TO MAKE THAT PHONE CALL OR GO KNOCK ON THE DOOR.

SO, UM, SO, UM, ALSO THERE'S OTHER THINGS LIKE CART PLACEMENT.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THE DRIVERS WILL USE IF THEY'RE TRYING TO PICK UP A CAR AND IT SIDEWAYS OR BACKWARDS, THEY CAN'T GET IT.

UM, AND THEN IF THERE'S TOO MUCH TRASH, WE, UH, WE'LL GO AHEAD, LIKE I SAID, AND SEAL IT.

SO BASICALLY WHAT WE DO, THE TAG, AS YOU CAN SEE, IT'S KIND OF, THEY'RE ABOUT NOT THAT LONG, AND YOU CAN MAKE YOUR NOTES ON IT, AND THEN IT'S A WHOLE STICKER.

SO WHEN WE'RE JUST PUTTING IT ON THE HANDLES, WE ONLY PEEL OFF THE TOP PORTION.

IF WE ARE GOING TO STICK IT AND SEAL, LIKE WE PULL THE WHOLE THING OFF THE BACK AND CREATE A, A SEAL OVER THE TOP AND TO THE SIDE OF THE CART SO THAT THE DRIVER CAN SEE IT WHEN THEY COME THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THEY WON'T EMPTY IT AND THE RESIDENT CAN'T MISS IT.

AND THEY KNOW THEY GOTTA PULL STUFF OUT.

IS THAT JUST A PAPER TAG THEY CAN SLICE OFF OR CUT OFF, OR, YES, IT CAN BE ROOM.

SO ONCE THEY'VE, ONCE THEY'VE REMEDIED THE ISSUE, THE CART TICKET, THE TAG WILL COME RIGHT OFF.

THEY ACTUALLY, THEY'RE JUST STICKY ENOUGH THAT IT'LL HOLD IT SHUT AND THAT IT'S NOT GONNA BLOW AWAY, BUT IT CAN BE REMOVED.

SO LIKE ON MY STREET, THEY PICK UP ON THE SAME DAY.

MM-HMM.

, SO COULDN'T THE OTHER DRIVER PICK IT UP IF HE SEES IT SEALED? LIKE THE REGULAR TRASH? THE REGULAR TRASH, IF IT'S SEALED AND THEY GO TO DUMP IT, I MEAN, THE WEIGHT OF IT, DEPENDING ON WHAT'S IN IT, THE WEIGHT OF IT COULD PROBABLY BUST IT AND, AND THEY COULD TAKE IT AWAY AS TRASH.

UM, WE DON'T HAVE THAT, THAT PROCESS REALLY IN PLACE.

NORMALLY THE, THE TRASH GUYS DO THEIR THING AND THE RECYCLE GUYS DO THEIR THING AND THEY DON'T TEND TO TO CROSS TOO MUCH, BUT MM-HMM.

, UM, YOU KNOW, MAYBE THAT'S WHAT WE CAN LOOK AT DOWN THE ROAD.

YEAH.

I'LL JUST ADD INQUIRING ABOUT, HAVE YOU DONE ONE OF THESE INSPECTIONS ALREADY? WE, YES, WE STARTED LAST WEEK.

TOMORROW WILL BE OFF.

HOW MANY DID YOU DO IN A DAY? IN A DAY? UM, MCKAYLA AND I TRIED TO GET THEM LAST WEEK.

MCKAYLA WAS NOT IN , SO I WAS DOING 'EM ON MY OWN.

AND I DID BETWEEN 30 AND 60 A DAY, DEPENDING ON IF IT IS A STREETSIDE COLLECTION OR AN ALLEY COLLECTION.

ALLEY COLLECTIONS GO MUCH FASTER, CUZ I CAN JUST KIND OF ZIGZAG REAL FAST WHEN IT'S ON THE STREET I'M HAVING, THERE'S FURTHER DISTANCE TO WALK AND IT TAKES ME LONGER.

SO, UM, BUT WHEN THERE'S THE TWO OF US, I THINK TODAY WE COVERED ABOUT TODAY, WE MAY HAVE BEEN TODAY'S WEDNESDAY 40 40 TODAY, AND I THINK ON FRIDAY WE'RE, WE'RE GONNA DO ABOUT 80 HOUSES, ABOUT 80 ON FRIDAY.

FRIDAY, MM-HMM.

.

SO YEAH.

SO IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE AREA, HOW MUCH WE'RE SEEING.

THERE'S ALSO CERTAIN DAYS OF THE WEEK DON'T HAVE AS MUCH, THEY DON'T HAVE AS MANY TAGS IN THE SYSTEM.

SO WE'RE, AND WE'RE USING THE PREVIOUS TAGS THAT THE DRIVERS HAVE DONE FOR REFERENCE.

SO WE'RE BASING IT OFF OF THAT.

MY GOAL, I'M KIND OF AMBITIOUS, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE US BE ABLE TO COVER A GOOD PORTION OF THE ENTIRE CITY.

UM, BUT IT WILL TAKE PROBABLY THE WHOLE YEAR.

SO DID YOU GET ANY RESPONSE FROM LAST WEEK? UM, MOST OF WHAT WE'VE SEEN IS, YOU KNOW, SO SINCE IT'S BI-WEEKLY COLLECTION, UM, WE WON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENED UNTIL NEXT WEEK WHEN WE GO THROUGH CALL TO, I DID NOT GET ANY PHONE CALLS.

I DID HAVE SOME PEOPLE THAT, YOU KNOW, LIKE, SO THEY COME OUT AND THEY'RE LIKE, WHAT CAN I ASK WHAT YOU'RE DOING? OR , YOU KNOW, I HAVE ONE LADY THAT CHARGED OUTTA HER BACK FENCE TODAY AND WAS, DID YOU PUT TRASH IN MY CART? YOU KNOW, SHE WAS REALLY VERY ENTHUSIASTIC.

DO YOU WEAR BIOHAZARD CLOTHES OR SOMETHING TO UH, NO.

CUZ I'M NOT REALLY, I'M NOT, WE'RE NOT REACHING IN.

UM, I HAVE BEEN KNOWN IF THERE'S LIKE A PLASTIC BAG ON THE TOP TO PINCH AND PUT IT IN THE GREEN CART MM-HMM.

AND MOVE IT.

BUT, UM, BUT THAT'S USUALLY, IF IT'S JUST ONE THING, IF I ONLY SEE ONE ITEM IN THERE AND I CAN

[00:10:01]

GRAB IT EASILY, I'LL MOVE IT.

PROBABLY SHOULDN'T SAY THAT , BUT I, YEAH, I WOULD RATHER US COLLECT THE GOOD STUFF AND REMOVE THAT ONE ITEM THAN NOT COLLECT AN ENTIRE CART FOR ONE ITEM.

SO, UM, BUT YEAH, AS FAR AS THE RESPONSE FROM THE CITIZENS WHO COME AND TALK TO US, IT'S BEEN, I FELT IT'S BEEN VERY POSITIVE.

THEY ARE REALLY OPEN.

THERE WAS A GUY TODAY WHOSE, UM, HIS, UH, CART WAS FULL OF TRASH .

AND SO I JUST KIND OF WENT THROUGH HIM.

AND THEN HE DID HAVE RECYCLING IN THERE, BUT THERE WAS ALSO, THERE WAS STYROFOAM, THERE WERE WIRES, THERE WERE ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

I MEAN, THE WIRES WERE COATED IN PLASTIC.

SO HE'S THINKING, WELL, THAT'S PLASTIC.

AND THEN HE HAD, UM, THE PLASTIC BAGS AND I WAS LIKE, OKAY, THESE JUST, THESE CAN'T, YOU KNOW, OUR SYSTEM DOESN'T PROCESS THESE CORRECTLY AND SO WE NEED 'EM TO GO IN THE TRASH OR BACK TO THE STORE.

AND HE'S LIKE, OKAY, SO NO PLASTIC.

AND I WAS LIKE, WELL, NO, NO, NO, NO, THIS IS GOOD.

SO THAT'S WHEN I REACHED AND I PULLED OUT A WATER BOTTLE.

I'M LIKE, THESE ARE PERFECT.

YOU CAN DO THIS.

ANYTHING LIKE THIS OR YOUR, YOU KNOW, YOUR LAUNDRY CONTAINERS, THOSE, AND, AND JUST, YOU KNOW, GO THROUGH THE CONVERSATION WITH HIM AND EXPLAIN WHAT'S OKAY AND WHAT'S NOT THAT, YOU KNOW.

AND HE WAS, YOU KNOW, MORE THAN HAPPY.

HE'S LIKE, I HAVE TO RUN, BUT THEY DON'T COME UNTIL LATE IN THE DAY AND I'LL, I'LL COME BACK AND I'LL, I'LL CLEAN IT OUT.

AND HE WAS WILLING TO PUT THE STUFF IN THE TRASH AND, AND TAKE CARE OF IT.

SO, AND I THINK THERE'S SOME PEOPLE, I THINK I HAVE ONE LAST WEEK THAT I WAS FILLING OUT THE TAG AND THIS LADY CAME OUT AND SHE WAS LIKE, I TOLD HER WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND SHE'S REACHING IN THERE AS I'M TALKING TO HER SO SHE DOESN'T GET THE TAG , SHE'S PUTTING TRASH IN, BUT JUST, SHE'S LIKE, AWW.

AND THEY THINK NOBODY'S EVER TOLD THEM THIS BEFORE.

THEY, A LOT OF 'EM ACT LIKE THEY DIDN'T REALIZE.

THEY REALLY DO.

YOU KNOW, WHICH MAKES ME KIND OF, IF IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE PEOPLE START TO HEAR IT AND THEY THINK, YOU KNOW, OH, WELL I KNOW THIS ALREADY.

AND THEY DON'T REALLY PAY ATTENTION UNLESS SOMEONE IS THERE HAVING THAT ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATION WITH THEM.

AND THAT'S, THAT'S THE ONE THING I'VE CONFIG OR WE HAVE A LOT OF REALLY GOOD ACTORS IN GARLAND, ALL TRY OUT FOR CIVIC THEATER.

SO , YOU KNOW, WE HAD AN INITIALLY PLANNED TO ROLL THIS OUT TWO YEARS AGO BEFORE COVID.

OH YEAH.

MM-HMM.

.

SO WE'RE A LITTLE, YOU KNOW, WE'RE A LITTLE BEHIND, BUT, UH, EVERYTHING'S BEHIND.

YEAH.

OH MY GOSH.

YES.

.

SO AS FAR AS THE PROGRAM GOES, OUR NEXT STEPS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT DOING, UM, AS, AS THE TEMPERATURES GET COOLER, WE WILL START VISITING MORE HOUSES BECAUSE I'LL BE ABLE TO SPEND MORE TIME OUT THERE.

UM, AND NOT BURNING OR MELTING .

UM, SO, AND THEN WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT, UM, WORKING WITH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS, N G I S D TO OFFER PRESENTATIONS ON CONTAMINATION AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF TOURS.

WE'VE, WE'VE HAD A FEW THIS YEAR THAT HAVE GOTTEN BRAVE IN COMING BACK AND, UM, SO I'VE ALREADY REACHED OUT TO G I S D AND EXPLAINED, YOU KNOW, LOOK, WE'LL COME TO YOU, YOU COME TO US, EITHER WAY WE CAN DO THIS.

AND WE STARTED TODAY WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS, REACHED OUT TO ABOUT 20 25, 20 25 NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION.

SO WE FIGURE WE'LL DO A GROUP EACH WEEK AND REACH OUT TO THEM AND SEE IF, UH, AND WE DID GET ONE, ONE BITE AS FAR AS SOMEBODY ARE GOING TO SEND THE FLYERS IN EACH HOUSE, EACH RESIDENCE, SO THAT THEY WILL KNOW WHAT TO PUT IN BLUE AND WHAT TO PUT IN GREEN, SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

SO, UH, WHEN THERE'S CONTAMINATION, YOU KNOW, THE STICKER DOES INCLUDE THAT ON THERE.

IF WE, OOPS, TOO FAR.

OKAY.

SO DOWN HERE, DOWN HERE AT THE BOTTOM, IT DOES SHOW WHAT WE WANT IN THERE.

SO THOSE WHO ARE DO HAVE CONTAMINATION.

THEY GET THAT WHEN THEY GET THE TAG.

UM, I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT THE STICKERS ON TOP OF THE BLUE CARTS, A LOT OF THE OLDER CARTS ARE FADED.

THEY'RE ALMOST, IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A BIG WHITE SQUARE.

MM-HMM.

.

SO I'VE BEEN TALKING WITH OUR, UH, RESIDENTIAL, UH, MANAGER, HECTOR, AND GETTING, UH, SOME MORE STICKERS FROM HIM.

SO I, UH, IF THERE'S A LOT OF COGS IN THE PROCESS, THERE'S, YOU KNOW, IF I HAD ALL DAY TO BE OUT THERE , I WOULD BE PUTTING, YOU KNOW, RECYCLE RANGER TAGS ON PEOPLE'S DOORS WHEN THEY HAVE A GOOD ONE.

WE HAVE MAGNETS TO GIVE OUT THAT, YOU KNOW, I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO WITH EVERYBODY, BUT WITH THE HEAT AND THE TIME THAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW, WE'RE JUST STICKING WITH THE TAGS.

BUT THERE'S, I'D LIKE TO DO MORE AND WE'RE TRYING TO WORK THAT, YOU KNOW, FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THAT WORK, HOW WE CAN GET IT OUT THERE.

UH, YOU KNOW, THERE'S DEFINITELY STUFF THAT WE'RE DOING MORE AND MORE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE NOTICED THAT OZ HAS BEEN WORKING WITH, UH, OUR FOLKS HERE IN PMR AND WE'VE BEEN PUTTING OUT MORE OF THOSE LITTLE SLIDES OF DO THIS, DON'T DO THAT.

UM, I BELIEVE THERE'S ALSO SOME LITTLE SHORT VIDEOS THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON INSTAGRAM, I THINK FROM THE CITY THAT ARE ALSO MORE ABOUT, YOU KNOW, CONTAMINATION AND PLACEMENT AND TRYING TO DO THINGS THE RIGHT WAY FOR SANITATION SAKE.

.

SO, UH, THE OTHER THING THAT UH, IS KIND OF COOL IS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT, UM, SOME APPS THAT ARE OUT THERE THAT WE CAN RUN EITHER FROM A TABLET OR A PHONE, UH, TO MAKE THE PROCESS FASTER.

SO WHEN YOU GET TO A CART, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST PINPOINT THE LOCATION THAT YOU'RE AT AND MARK WHETHER OR NOT YOU'RE TAGGING IT OR THAT KIND

[00:15:01]

OF THING.

SO IT'LL BE FASTER THAN HAVING OUR CLIPBOARDS AND OUR PENS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.

SO ARE Y'ALL HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? YES, YES.

I'M SORRY, WHAT WAS NO, YOU'RE GOOD.

WHAT'S A TANER? A TANER.

OKAY.

SEE, NOT EVERYBODY KNOWS EVERYTHING.

.

THAT'S OKAY.

I'M GLAD YOU ASKED.

SO TERS, ARE THOSE LONG? ANYTHING THAT'S LONG, UM, AND SKINNY LIKE COAT HANGERS OR CHRISTMAS LIGHTS OR THESE KIND OF WIRES, ANYTHING LIKE THIS THAT WOULD TOWARDS ANYTHING KIND OF ZIP BOARD, LIKE ZIP TIES WOULD BE CONSIDERED A TANER.

YEAH.

ANYTHING THAT CAN GET CAUGHT IN THE MACHINERY THAT FCC HAS TO SEPARATE PLASTIC BAGS.

YEAH.

CUZ THE PLASTIC BAGS CAN SQUISH UP AND THEY GET STRETCHED OUT AND SHE HAD SEPARATED TERS AND PLASTIC BAGS IN THE THINGS.

SO I DIDN'T PUT PLASTIC BAGS ARE NOT TERS.

BOB'S LIKE, I KNOW EVERYTHING.

A CITY AND ANOTHER IS THIS TANER, RIGHT? YES, YES.

THAT SENTENCE.

UM, THEY SEND OUT THE TRUCK THAT DELIVERS THE NEW CARTS.

MM-HMM.

IT RUNS THE ROUTE EVERY MORNING.

AND ANY RECYCLE BIN WITH ANYTHING POKING OUT, IT TAKES THE BIN.

OH REALLY? WOW.

YES.

THEY TAKE THE BIN AND THEN THE PEOPLE CAN CALL AND ASK WHAT'S GOING ON AND THAT'S HOW THEY INITIATE CONTACT.

OOH.

AND IT'S FAST.

AND IT REALLY SOLVES THAT.

IF, IF THEY'RE UGLY ON THE PHONE, THEY DON'T GET A BIN BACK, YOU KNOW? DO PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY'RE BEING PUNISHED BY NOT GETTING THEIR BIDS BACK? YES.

DO THEY THEY DO.

I DON'T, THEY DO PEOPLE GET OFFENDED IN ILLINOIS? WE WERE KIND OF USED TO YEAH.

DIRECT CONTACT.

MM-HMM.

, THEY DO, THEY GET REALLY UPSET WHEN YOU TELL THEM, YOU KNOW, LOOK, WE JUST WANNA LET YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS YOUR KNOW, WHEN I MAKE PHONE CALLS AND LET THEM KNOW THIS IS YOUR SECOND TAG ON YOUR ACCOUNT IN THE LAST YEAR.

IF THERE IS A THIRD ONE, WE WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE BLUE CART.

I PAY FOR THAT.

I PAY TO RECYCLE.

AND I'M LIKE, MM.

BUT DO YOU, NO.

YOU, THAT'S, NO, I DON'T THINK SO.

YES.

BUT YOU, YOU NEED TO, YOU NEED TO REREAD THAT INFORMATION .

NO, THAT'S A SLIDE YOU SHOULD DO.

YEAH.

CAUSE PEOPLE DO FEEL THAT WAY.

I HEAR IT ALL THE TIME.

MM-HMM.

.

WELL WE PAY FOR THAT.

I SAID, YEAH, YOU PAY FOR IT, BUT NOT MONTHLY.

NO.

BUT YOU PAY FOR IT WITH YOUR TAXES.

THAT'S RIGHT.

IT'S CRAZY.

YES.

AND IF YOU'D LIKE THAT MONEY TO BE USED IN A BETTER WAY MORE YOU TRASH UP THE SYSTEM, THE MORE YOU PAY MM-HMM.

, IT'S REALLY THE MESSAGE YOU NEED BE PASSING OUT.

ABSOLUTELY.

THAT'S REALLY WHAT THE WHOLE KEY OF DOING.

THIS IS TO MINIMIZE OUR CONTAMINATION.

SO WHEN WE SEND OUR, OUR MATERIALS TO OUR PROCESS, OR WE'RE NOT PAYING TO PROCESS TRASH, WE'RE PAYING A PROCESS RECYCLABLES.

AND THAT'S, THAT'S WHERE THE, THE FINANCIAL WINNING ALL THIS IS, IS WE NEED TO GET OUR BRAKES DOWN.

DID IT, UM, IN ILLINOIS, THEY SAID THEY WERE GETTING A LOT OF TREE BRANCHES.

THEY HAD NO, THEY DIDN'T HAVE A BULK PICKUP.

SO THEY STEPPED EVERYTHING THEY DID WANTED TO GET RID OF IN THE RECYCLE.

SO ANYTHING POKING OUT OF A RECYCLE THAT WAS WRONG, THEY FIRST STARTED THIS, THEY WOULD KNOCK ON DOORS.

IT WASN'T HANDLED WELL.

MM-HMM.

.

AND, UH, I DON'T KNOW IF THE PERSON KNOCKING WAS NOT FRIENDLY, MAYBE, I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCE WERE, BUT THEY DECIDED TO JUST GO FOR BLATANT DISREGARD TO THE SYSTEM.

AND UH, THEY SAID IT MADE A PRETTY BIG DENT, LIKE A 15% D THE FIRST MONTH IN CONTAMINATION.

IT'S TYPICALLY THE PEOPLE THAT ARE CONTAMINATING AT THAT LEVEL DON'T CARE.

NO.

NO.

THEY'RE JUST LOOKING FOR A SECOND TRASH CAN.

AND UM, I DO HAVE A FRIEND WHO TOLD ME LAST WEEK, HE'S LIKE, WELL YOU GUYS CAN COME TAKE IT CUZ WE DON'T USE IT.

AND I WAS LIKE, WELL IF YOU REALLY MEAN THAT, I'LL, I CAN GO IN AND AND HAVE THAT PULLED FOR YOU.

HE NEVER GOT BACK TO ME.

SO I'M GOING, YOU'RE USING IT FOR A TRASH CAN, AREN'T YOU? SO I'M GONNA HAVE TO SOMEONE WE WROTE IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD AND GO LOOK.

YEAH.

DISAPPEAR IN THE CAN.

THAT'S RIGHT.

YOU KNOW, SOMETHING THAT I JUST REALIZED THE OTHER DAY, I WAS AT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT CLEANERS.

THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF WIRE HANGERS AT THE CLEANERS PLACES.

WOW.

SO, AND PEOPLE ARE THROWING THOSE IN THE RECYCLING BIN BECAUSE THEY THINK IT'S METAL.

IT GETS RECYCLED.

SO MAYBE YOU GUYS SHOULD CONSIDER PARTNERING WITH SOME OF THE CLEANERS PLACES TO ENHANCE THEIR ABILITY TO GET 'EM BACK.

YOU KNOW, MAYBE THEY'D PUT A, A RECYCLE FEE OR, OR RETURN DEPOSIT.

SOMETHING ON IT GET, YOU KNOW.

YEAH.

I WOULD THINK I'M, AND THERE'S GOTTA BE A WAY TO, TO INCENTIVIZE PEOPLE RETURNING STUFF TO WHERE IT REALLY GOES.

AND IT WOULD DEFINITELY, YOU KNOW, IT WOULD DECREASE THEIR COSTS BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO, I THINK JUST AT LEAST, YOU KNOW, LETTING THEM KNOW, HEY, YOU CAN TAKE THESE BACK TO YOUR CLEANERS BEFORE I TAKE MINE BACK.

AND IT REDUCE YOUR TGL , YOU NEED TO DO A SPECIFIC SLIDE ON TERS.

YEAH.

MAKE A NOTE ABOUT THAT.

REMINDS ME OF, BUT SORRY.

THAT'S OKAY.

JUST GO AHEAD, MIKAY.

UM, I WAS SAYING THAT THE, THE IDEA THAT YOU WERE SAYING WITH RETURNING IT BACK TO THE CLEANERS, IT REMINDS ME OF WHAT THEY DO IN GERMANY WHERE YOU PAY TO RETURN BACK ANY RECYCLE ITEMS AND, UM, YOU GET THE MONEY BACK LATER WHEN YOU BRING THEM BACK.

SEE LIKE A DEPOSIT? YEAH.

JUST LIKE WE USED TO DO WITH COKE.

BOTTLES.

BOTTLES.

YEP.

I WAS GONNA SAY THIS, ALL THE PEOPLE WITH THE HAIR COLOR ARE MINE.

HAVE TAKEN BACK COKE BOTTLES, GOTTEN YOUR NICKEL BACK TO GET CANDY AND

[00:20:01]

WHATEVER.

THAT'S HOW WE GOT OUR MONEY.

OH, DEFINITELY.

MICHELLE IS, SHE'S VERY, VERY EARLY ON THIS PROGRAM HERE.

SO WE JUST KIND OF GOT STARTED.

WE'RE KIND OF, KIND OF TRY TO GET OUR FEET WET AND LEARNED BEST PRACTICES, WORST PRACTICES.

THERE IS SOME TECHNOLOGY OUT THERE TO MAKE THIS PROCESS A HECK OF A LOT FASTER.

WE KINDA WANT TO GET A GOOD, A GOOD FOOT UNDERNEATH US FIRST.

WE GO OUT THERE AND SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY ON TECHNOLOGY THAT'LL, THAT'LL HELP US.

DEFINITELY WANNA PROVE THAT IT'S, IT'S WORTH IT TO DO IT.

SO WE GOTTA WE'VE GOTTA SHOW THAT IT'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

SO THAT'S ALL I GOT NEXT ARE ECHO CARTS, I BELIEVE.

ALL RIGHT.

GONNA SLIDE OVER AND LET YOU HAVE IT.

OKAY.

YOU MIGHT WANNA LOWER THAT OR YOU CAN HAVE THE TALL CHAIR .

IT'S OKAY.

THANK YOU.

SO JUST REAL QUICK FOR YOU GUYS THAT WEREN'T AT, AT DINNER EARLIER, MAKAYLA IS OUR INTERN FOR THE SUMMER.

OKAY.

SO MAKAYLA, WHERE DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL RIGHT NOW? UH, DALLAS COLLEGE.

DALLAS COLLEGE, WHICH RUN IN RICHLAND RIGHT AROUND HERE.

YES.

SO THE CITY HAS AN INTERN PROGRAM.

IT RUNS THE JUNE THROUGH AUGUST.

YES.

BASICALLY.

AND THIS YEAR WE'VE HAD ABOUT 40 OR 50 KIDS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CITY AND TURNING DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS.

SO ALSO SHE STUDIED IN GERMANY? YES, I LIVED THERE.

YES, SIR.

OKAY.

UM, A NEW DEVICE THAT WE'RE USING IS CALLED AN ECO CARD.

AND IT'S BY CASCADE.

AND CASCADE IS AN ENGINEERING COMPANY AND THEY FOCUS A LOT ON USING RECYCLED MATERIALS TO MAKE NEW MATERIALS.

SO THE ECO CART IS A CURBSIDE TRASH AND RECYCLING CART.

IT IS, UM, ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS THE CARTS THAT WE HAVE NOW.

AND IT'S THE FIRST CART THAT IS MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS FROM CURBSIDE PICKUP.

AND YES, SO IT'S MADE FROM PLASTICS THAT ARE COLLECTED FROM CURBSIDE RECYCLING PROGRAMS AROUND THE WORLD.

AND THEN THE PLASTICS ARE COLLECTED AND THEY'RE MADE INTO H D P E RESIDE AND H D P E PLASTICS ARE THINGS LIKE A LAUNDRY BASKET OR THE CAT LITTERS THAT YOU SEE THAT ARE PLASTIC.

AND THEN IT'S SOLD TO CASCADE.

AND CASCADE USES THAT MATERIAL TO MAKE THE ECO CARTS.

AND SO WHAT WE ARE DOING AT THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT IS WE'RE TESTING OUT THE CART TO SEE HOW IT GOES WITH THE ROUTES, BUT WE'RE JUST USING IT WITHIN THE FACILITY AND WE'RE TESTING IT FOR THE DURABILITY.

AND OUR HOPE IS IN THE FUTURE TO REPLACE THE CARTS THAT WE USE NOW WITH THE ECO CARTS OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

THE REASON THAT WE DECIDED TO LOOK INTO THE ECO CART IS BECAUSE THE PRICE OF IT, UM, IF YOU GET A CERTAIN QUANTITY, IS, UM, A LITTLE BIT CHEAPER THAN WHAT WE USE NOW.

AND IT'S A GREAT WAY TO REUSE THE PLASTICS THAT COME FROM RECYCLE.

AND THAT'S IT.

IF ANYONE HAS, HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE? WE HAVE ONE CART, I BELIEVE RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE ONE CART RIGHT NOW.

AND LIKE MAKAYLA MENTIONED RIGHT NOW WE HAVE IT AT THE YARD.

IT'S, OUR EQUIPMENT IS VERY TOUGH ON THESE CARTS.

SO BEFORE WE GO OUT THERE AND INVEST A LOT OF MONEY, UH, AND THESE CARTS, WE WANNA MAKE SURE IT'S GONNA STAND UP TO THE DAY TO DAY GRIND THAT THESE CANS GO THROUGH.

SO WE HAVE IT CURRENTLY, IT'S IN OUR RECYCLING CENTER AND IT'S BEING EMPTIED MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A DAY JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT IT CAN REALLY KIND OF KEEP UP, UH, WITH, WITH THE DEMAND OF THE, OF THE ARM.

SO.

WELL, YOU GOT A GOOD TEST CREW RIGHT HERE.

YOU COULD PUT ONE IN EACH ONE OF OUR HOUSES .

SO, SO WE'VE GOT, WE'LL START OFF WITH ONE AND, YOU KNOW, WE'LL, WE'LL KIND OF SEE HOW IT DOES, BUT YOU KNOW, IT NEEDS TO SIT IN THE SUN.

YEAH, IT'S IN THE SUN.

IT'S IN THE SUN.

YEAH.

YEAH, YEAH.

IT'S, UH, JUST FROM A TOUCH AND FEEL OF IT, IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S A LITTLE BIT, UH, I'M NOT GONNA SAY FLIMSIER.

WELL, I'M GONNA SAY FLIMSY.

IT'S LITTLE FLIMSIER, UH, THAN WHAT YOUR NORMAL CARD IS.

BUT, UH, THE WARRANTY'S THE SAME.

AND LIKE MIKAYLA MENTIONED, IT'S A LITTLE BIT, IT'S A LITTLE BIT CHEAPER THAN WE'RE USING NOW.

PROCESS IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

YEAH.

NOW THE RESIN PRICES ARE, THEY, THEY FLUCTUATE SO MUCH.

YEP.

UM, BUT RIGHT NOW, THE WAY THINGS ARE RIGHT NOW, IT'S A LITTLE BIT CHEAPER TO MANUFACTURE.

SO IT'S A RECYCLABLE PLASTIC THAT IN ITSELF IT'S RECYCLABLE.

IT'S GOT 10% RECYCLED PLASTICS IN IT.

UH, I HAVE A QUESTION.

UH, THIS CART WILL BE COLLECT FROM THE FRONT SIDE OF THE HOUSE.

THE CURB SIDE.

YES, SIR.

AND SO THIS CART WILL BE A SEPARATE ONE, UH, THAN WHAT WE HAVE IN THE BACKYARD.

OKAY.

IT'LL, IT'LL REPLACE THE CART YOU HAVE NOW THE CARTS THAT WE HAVE NOW AT SOME POINT.

OKAY.

YEAH.

THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.

THAT'S A GOOD PLAN.

A VERY GOOD PLAN ACTUALLY.

YEAH.

ONE OF THE THINGS I THOUGHT WAS, UH, PRETTY NICE ABOUT IS WE DO HAVE RESIDENTS THAT STRUGGLE WITH THE CARTS BECAUSE THEY, ONCE YOU'VE GOT 'EM LOADED, THEY CAN BE HEAVY.

AND THIS DOES IT, IT IS, WELL WE SAY FLIMSY, BUT IT IS ALSO LIGHTER.

SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT EASIER, I THINK TO MANEUVER IT IS.

UM, AND AS FAR AS SETTING IT OUT IN THE SUN, YOU KNOW, THE AREA WHERE WE HAVE OUR, UM, WHERE WE COLLECT OUR RECYCLABLES AT, UM, THE TRANSFER STATION AND RECYCLE CENTER, UH, THERE'S A ROW IN FRONT OF WHERE ALL

[00:25:01]

OF THE OIL AND THE ANTIFREEZE IS COLLECTED AND IT'S DIRECTLY IN THE SUN ALL DAY LONG.

THE SUN JUST KIND OF PASSES RIGHT OVER IT AND IT SITS THERE WITH THE OTHER CARTS.

SO IT'S GETTING TRASH THAT PEOPLE ARE COMING IN AND, YOU KNOW, PLASTIC BAGS AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

SO IT'S, IT'S DEFINITELY IN THE SUN AND DEFINITELY GETTING SOME WEAR AND TEAR ON IT.

, I'VE BEEN USING GREEN CARTS SINCE 10 YEARS MM-HMM.

AND YEAH, RECENTLY I, TWO MONTHS BACK I APPLIED FOR, UH, REPLACED.

RIGHT.

I DIDN'T GET YET.

IT LASTS A WHILE.

THEY REALLY DO.

YEAH.

MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

AND, BUT YOU KNOW, ONE THING THAT'S, WE, WE, ON AVERAGE, WE REPLACE 30 TO 40 CARDS A DAY ON AVERAGE.

SO IF YOU CAN DO THE MATH, IT'S A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MONEY.

SO ANY KIND OF COST SAVINGS THIS DEVICE CAN GIVE US WOULD BE VERY WELCOMED.

YOU REPLACE THE TOPS, WE CAN REPLACE YEAH.

THE, THERE'S ALL PIECES THAT ARE REPLACEABLE.

THE TOPS, THE WHEELS, THE AXLES, THOSE ARE REPLACEABLE.

AND WE WILL, IF WE GO OUT TO YOUR SITE, WE CAN FIX IT.

WE'LL TRY TO FIX IT FIRST.

UM, BUT THEN IF WE CAN'T FIX IT, THEN WE'LL REPLACE THE ENTIRE CAR.

YEAH.

THEY FIXED THE ONES FOR MY BIN CARD.

YEAH.

BECAUSE I SEEM TO RECALL THERE'S SOMEBODY MAKING THE TOPS OF ALMOST A HUNDRED PERCENT RECYCLED, BUT IT'S GONNA BE A DIFFERENT COLOR BECAUSE WHEN YOU USE A HUNDRED PERCENT RECYCLED, YOU CANNOT DICTATE WHAT COLOR IT'S GONNA BE.

BUT DIFFERENT SHADE.

THEY'RE KIND OF GRAY.

YEAH.

DIFFERENT SHADES OF GRAY.

BUT YOU PROBABLY GET MORE THAN 10% RECYCLED IF YOU BOUGHT RECYCLED TOPS OF THE WHOLE CART AND BE ABLE TO CLAIM THAT ALL OF YOUR CARTS RIGHT.

ARE THEN 10% RECYCLED.

ALSO IN, IN MY BUSINESS, WE TRY TO DO A LOT OF RECYCLED MATERIALS AND WE FIND THAT IN DOING IT, SOMETIMES WE'RE PAYING MORE FOR FUEL THAN WE'RE ACTUALLY SAVING.

OH, BECAUSE YOU'RE SHIPPING THE STUFF FROM AFAR.

RIGHT.

SO THERE'S, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU SAY THERE'S LITTLE SAVINGS, PROBABLY NOT IN THE END BY THE TIME YOU PAY TO SHIP IT, IT'S GENERALLY NOT.

YEAH.

BUT IT'S A REALLY COOL IDEA.

BUT I'M A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED THAT IT'S 10% THEN THAT'S, THAT'S JUST WHAT THEY, IT'S IT'S A NEW PRODUCT FOR THEM.

SO THEY'RE PROBABLY IN THE EARLY PHASES OF EVERYTHING AS WELL.

SO.

YEP.

THAT'S, UM, SOMETHING THAT THE WEBSITE SAYS THAT IN THE FUTURE THEY HOPE TO HAVE ABOUT A HUNDRED PERCENT FOR THEIR CARTS AS WELL.

NOBODY'S RUNNING A HUNDRED PERCENT.

I KNOW.

A HUN.

YEAH.

NOT WITH HD P CUZ IT'S SO UNPREDICTABLE.

YES.

BUT, UH, IT WOULD BE VERY COOL.

MM-HMM.

, IT'D BE COOL IF THEY COULD GET SOME ABS IN THERE.

THE STUFF THAT'S ON THE BACK OF OLD TELEVISIONS AND KEYBOARDS, STUFF LIKE THAT IS ALMOST UNUSABLE ALTOGETHER.

LIKE THIS.

YES.

MM-HMM.

, YOU MAKE, THEY MAKE PARK BENCHES MM-HMM.

AND SOME THINGS LIKE THAT.

BUT THEY'RE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE ACTUAL PARK BENCHES.

YES.

WELL, YEAH.

WE'LL KEEP YOU GUYS UPDATED.

WE'LL, WE'LL HAVE IT FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS AND MAYBE BEFORE WE SEND IT BACK, WE'LL KIND OF GIVE YOU GUYS THE FINAL REPORT ON HOW IT, HOW IT HOLD UP AND IF IT'S SOMETHING WE CAN ACTUALLY USE MOVING FORWARD.

SO IS IT MADE FROM THE COMPOSITE RESIN THAT LIKE THOSE, THE, THE COMMERCIALS THAT HAVE THE BOTTLES THAT ARE MADE OUT OF THAT RESIN, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? THOSE PINK LITTLE, LITTLE RESIN BALLS.

IT'S A LITTLE HIGHER GRADE RESIN.

IT'S, IT'S, IT'S, IT'S A LITTLE BIT THICKER.

LIKE YOUR, YOUR THICKER TYPE PLASTICS.

THAT'S WHAT IT'S MADE.

OKAY.

SO IT'S MADE OUTTA THE SAME MATERIAL AS A MO BUCKET? YEAH, POSSIBLY.

YEAH.

OKAY.

MM-HMM.

? YEAH.

THE WATER BOTTLE IS LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE AND THE HIGH DENSITY IS THE THICKER JUICE BOTTLES AND THINGS LIKE, AND OF COURSE IT'S SITTING OUT THERE.

SO IF, IF ANYONE WANTS TO COME HOME, OH, WHERE'S, WHERE'S IT AT? KICK THE TIRES.

COME ON OUT AND CHECK IT OUT.

TO KICK IT TOO HARD.

WE DON'T, THIS IS LONER , WE NEED TO MAKE IT LAST .

CAUSE WE DO SHRED BINS.

MM-HMM.

.

AND, UM, I WOULD PREFER TO BE BUYING RECYCLED SHRED BINS.

SO I'M INTERESTED IN IT.

UH, THIS IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING.

MAKAYLA, WHAT ARE YOU MAJORING IN? BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT.

OKAY.

BECAUSE I'M, I HAVE A LITTLE ANNOUNCEMENT IN A FEW MINUTES ABOUT, ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS, I MEAN OKAY.

ON HOURS.

SHE'S NOT ELIGIBLE FOR HOURS, BUT I JUST WONDER, YOU KNOW, WHO MIGHT BE ? WELL, IT'S TIME BUDDY.

OH, WELL, NO, LET THEM LET THEM MENTION THEIR QUESTIONS.

DOES ANYBODY, IF THERE ANYBODY ELSE HAS ANY QUESTIONS? SO WE ARE GOING TO, CITY IS GOING TO SUPPLY ANOTHER CART.

THAT'S WHAT, RIGHT? THAT'S THE, THAT'S THE, YES.

OKAY.

NO, NO, IT'S OKAY.

, WHAT THEY DOING GOING TO DO WITH THE, THE ONE YOU ONLY HAVE? THEY GET RECYCLED.

THEY, THEY GET SENT BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY GET RECYCLED.

THEY SAY, AND IT WOULD BE PHASED OUT.

IT WOULDN'T SO GOING REPLACED.

OKAY.

WE WOULDN'T YANK THE GOOD REPLACE.

YEAH.

THESE, THESE ARE THE WRECK REPLACEMENTS FOR THE ONES THAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE NOW.

RIGHT.

IF THEY WORK OUT SO YOU CAN GET 'EM IN ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF COLORS AND, AND WHATNOT.

BUT IT, IT'LL, IF IT WORKS OUT, IT'LL BE A DIRECT, SO WHEN YOUR CART DOWN THE ROAD, IF IT JUST, WE CAN'T REPAIR IT, WE'LL REPLACE IT WITH ONE OF THE EAST POSSIBLY.

YEAH.

THE NAME ITSELF, YOU KNOW, GIVING, UH, IDEA FOR THE PEOPLE A CO YOU KNOW, YOUR CO CART.

YEAH.

YOU KNOW, JUST, UH, INSTEAD OF RECYCLING, YOU KNOW, THE ONE YOU ALREADY HAD.

THAT MAKES SENSE.

AND, UH, IN THE WAREHOUSE.

[00:30:01]

WHAT, WHAT DO WE DO WITH THOSE? YEAH.

WELL WE, WE DISTRIBUTE 'EM AS WE NEED 'EM.

YEAH.

YEAH.

WE, YEAH, WE, WE ORDER THOSE ABOUT 600 AT A TIME.

SO, AND THEY LAST IS A COUPLE MONTHS, SOMETIMES LAST, SOMETIMES MORE.

UM, BUT YEAH, WE, WE GET ABOUT A SHIPMENT LIKE ONCE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS.

I'M SURE THE INVOICE HAS BEEN GOING UP SLOWLY.

WELL, , UNLESS YOU HAVE A CONTRACT, WE HAVE A CONTRACT.

AND, UH, WHEN I, I MET WITH OUR REP, UH, IN VEGAS AT THE WASTE EXPO.

THEY, THEY TOLD US THAT THEY'RE, THEY'RE NOT MAKING A LOT OF MONEY RIGHT NOW.

THE REIN'S VERY HIGH.

WELL, YEAH, THAT'S A, YOU PROBABLY , THAT'S KIND OF WHAT'S SAID.

WELL, WHAT ELSE YOU HAVE FOR US? YEAH.

I HAVE NO QUESTION.

IS THERE CURBSIDE? SO NOW FOR MY HOUSE, UH, THEY'RE PICKING FROM THE BACK, BACK, BACK SIDE.

SO SAME AREA.

WE CAN KEEP IT RIGHT? YES, SIR.

YEAH.

OTHERWISE, WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU PUT IN THE FRONT AND THIS GUYS, UH, DON'T PICK IT UP.

IT'LL BE LOOK VERY BAD.

NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING.

YOUR COLLECTION POINT WILL CHANGE IT.

YEAH.

ASK THE CONTAINER.

THANK YOU.

WE'RE REALISTICALLY WHAT, THREE, FOUR YEARS OUT FROM THAT THOUGH? UH, I WOULDN'T SAY THREE OR FOUR YEARS, BUT AT LEAST, AT LEAST A YEAR.

I MEAN, WE'D HAVE TO, WE'D HAVE TO YEAH.

THAT SOON.

YEAH.

WE POSSIBLY, IF IT WORKS OUT, YEAH.

COULD WE ALREADY TO HAVE A CONTRACT WITH OUR VENDORS? SO WOULDN'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE BID PROCESS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT TOO.

IT'D BE, IT'S A LITTLE BIT CLEANER, CLEANER PROCUREMENT PROCESS.

SO COULD BE, COULD BE A LOT SOONER THAN THAT.

IF IT WORKS OUT.

WE JUST GOTTA MAKE SURE IT WORKS OUT.

THE SUN WILL TELL YOU.

MM-HMM.

, IT'S THE SUN THAT KILLS THOSE THINGS.

MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

I HAVE A QUESTION.

UM, HOW FAR AHEAD DO WE HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU TO, FOR YOU TO COME TO OUR MEETINGS? OH, AS LONG AS I HAVE AN OPENING ABOUT MONDAY NIGHT.

MONDAY, I HAVE TO LOOK AT MY CALENDAR, BUT I WILL LOOK AT IT.

HEY, THIS IS WHAT I, I KNOW I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING WORK RELATED.

I JUST GOTTA MAKE SURE I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING KID RELATED.

OH, , YOU THINK YOU NEED A SEXUAL LOT? YOU KNOW WHAT? I DO HAVE SOMETHING KID RELATED ON MONDAY THAT'S, I'M NOT WORKING ON MONDAY BECAUSE I HAVE KID RELATED STUFF GOING ON THAT DAY.

BUT, UH, YEAH.

NEXT AVAILABLE TUESDAY OR WHENEVER YOU WANT.

WE MEET, UH, OUR, OUR, UH, NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION, UH, BOARD AND GUEST AND WHATEVER WE MEET, UH, THE THIRD MONDAY OKAY.

OF EACH MONTH.

AND I'LL, IF YOU HAVE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE THIRD MONDAY OF NEXT MONTH IS.

I CAN'T THINK THAT FAR AHEAD AS TO WHAT THE DATE IS, BUT, UH, THAT'S WHEN OUR, OUR, WE HAVE A MEETING THIS MONDAY NIGHT AND THEN THE, YOU KNOW, ONE IN AUGUST.

MM-HMM.

.

SO IF YOU'LL ABSOLUTELY PUT, PUT US ON YOUR CALENDAR.

15TH.

AUGUST 15TH.

THE WHAT? AUGUST 15TH.

AUGUST 15TH IS THE THIRD MONDAY.

OKAY.

AUGUST 15TH.

THANK YOU.

DO YOU DO THOSE THINGS ON SUNDAY OR DO THEY GOTTA BE DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS? I, IT'S, IT JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT TIME.

, UH, I'M GONNA GET IT ALL BOOKED UP RIGHT NOW.

.

TWO O'CLOCK ON.

TWO O'CLOCK ON A SUNDAY.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2ND.

I'M GONNA GO GRAB THE PHONE.

.

OH, WE'LL GO BACK WITH YOU KEN.

WE CAN, WE CAN, WE CAN DO SOMETHING.

YEAH.

AND THAT'S WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR BIG PARTY IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

YEAH, WE MET LAST NIGHT AND DETERMINED THAT THAT'S GONNA BE OUR BIG ONE THIS YEAR.

IT'S NOT AS BIG, BUT IT'S THE DAY WE CLOSE THE POOL, SO WE WOULD'VE A LITTLE PARTY AND STUFF.

YOU GUYS GOOD? YEP.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

GOOD JOB.

AND WELCOME ABOARD MCKAYLA.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANKS FOR REACHING OUT.

DID Y'ALL GET YOUR EMAIL TODAY? THEY DIDN'T GO TO EVERYBODY.

.

OH, IT'S NOT THAT.

IT'S JUST, LIKE I SAID, WE'RE DOING, UH, ABOUT AROUND 20 OR 25 HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS EACH WEEK.

WE'RE REACHING OUT, WHETHER IT'S HOMEOWNERS OR, UH, HOAS OR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS AND LETTING THEM KNOW WE'RE ON VI I P LIST.

NO DOUBT.

, YOU'RE, YOU ARE, YOU HAVE BEEN REGISTERED WITHIN THE LAST FEW.

YOU GET AN INVITATION AND I HAVE TO BEG, , GOTTA KNOW SOMEBODY OR, OR IT'S THE PROBLEM NEIGHBORHOOD.

YEAH.

YEAH.

THERE'S KEEP GOING.

BEAUTIFUL.

OKAY.

I HAVE THREE.

I HAVE I THINK THREE IMPORTANT THINGS TO TALK ABOUT.

THE FIRST ONE IS, UM, UH, MATT WITH, UH, THE, THE PARKS DEPARTMENT WANTS, UH, TO HAVE A, A POSSIBLE, UH, THAT CREEK CLEANUP.

THE, THE ONE IN MAY WAS SO SUCCESSFUL, THEY'D LIKE TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE.

AND THE TENTATIVE DATE ON THIS ONE IS OCTOBER THE 22ND.

AND, UH, AS WE DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT, SO EVERYTHING I SAY IS TE BUT IT WILL BE LIKE, UH,

[00:35:01]

IN MAY.

THEY'LL MEET AT, UH, LONG WIND PARK AND GO FROM THERE DOWN THROUGH, UM, THAT CREEK.

AND, UH, UH, THEY, UM, HE WOULD, HE WAS SO PLEASED WITH WHAT WENT ON AND WE ALREADY DISCUSSED SOME POSSIBLE CHANGES THAT WOULD BE MADE, UM, LIKE HAVING MORE PARK PERSONNEL THERE, HAVING, UM, UH, BETTER, WE DID A, WE THOUGHT WE DID A GOOD JOB ON REGISTRATION, BUT THEN THE PEOPLE SHOWED UP.

AND THEN WE HAVE THIS MAJOR PROBLEM THAT THE PERSON WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THIS, UM, FROM NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY, UM, NANCY IS EXPECTING TWINS.

SO SHE SAYS SHE'S NOT GONNA SHOW UP FOR THIS ONE.

SO, UM, UH, THEY'LL BE BRAND NEW BABIES BY THAT TIME.

SO WE ARE ASKING FOR, UH, SOME ADDITIONAL HELP WITH, UH, GETTING, WORKING ON THAT AND, UH, GETTING REGISTRATION ESPECIALLY DONE.

BUT THAT'S ON OCTOBER THE 22ND.

SO THEY GIVES YOU PLENTY OF TIME TO PLAN AHEAD.

UH, THE NEXT THING IS, UH, NOR TEXAS GIVING DAY, BUT YOU'VE ALREADY GOT IT.

IT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE.

I, YEAH.

IS THAT DANIEL IN THE, OR IS THAT OUR BOY? DANIEL IN THE PICTURE THERE? I DON'T KNOW.

UH, IT IS DANIEL.

HE'S FAMOUS.

HE IS, YEAH.

LOOK AT ALL OF OUR GRABBERS THAT ARE SITTING RIGHT THERE AND THE VEST.

OH, THAT'S HALF OF ME RIGHT THERE.

.

WELL, ONLY HALF OF YOU COULD MAKE IT.

LOOK AT THAT.

THERE'S, THERE'S, WELL NOT EVEN HALF OF ME, BUT I'M HANDING OUT VEST AND, UM, A FEW OTHER THINGS.

AND HE'S DOING THOSE GRABBERS.

YEAH, THAT'S DANIEL.

GOOD.

WE GOT PRESS TIME.

WE DID, DIDN'T WE? UM, THE, UH, THIS, OH, WELL, I'LL GO BACK TO THAT.

THE THREE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WERE MAINLY IN CHARGE OF THAT WERE, UM, UH, OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY PARKS DEPARTMENT IN CAPE GARLAND.

BEAUTIFUL.

AND SO, UH, WE'LL BE DOING, WE THINK OCTOBER 22ND AND OCTOBER THE FIRST IS THE TRI-CITY CLEANUP WITH, UH, RT AND, UH, THE CITY OF DALLAS.

SO THOSE ARE TWO DATES YOU CAN PUT ON YOUR, UH, CALENDAR TO HELP WITH, UM, HELP WITH CLEANUPS.

WHERE'S THE, UM, HEADQUARTERS FOR THE TRI CLEANUP GONNA BE AT THIS? THEY HAVE NOT SAID YET.

AND THEY DO NOT KNOW.

UH, THEY'RE STILL TRYING TO DECIDE IF WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A GROUP ACTIVITY AND EVERYBODY MEET, YOU KNOW, AT THE, UM, UM, WHAT'S THAT CALLED? WHERE WE, WHEREVER WE RUNNERS, SHRINER'S PLACE.

UH, IT DEPENDS ON WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

THEY'RE, THE PAST TWO YEARS HAVE BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL AND JUST PUTTING CLEANING SUPPLIES IN THIS SPOT AND ASSIGNING PEOPLE TO GO THERE.

AND THERE WAS NO CENTRAL PLACE.

NO, WE DID NOT MEET.

BUT, UM, WE'D LIKE TO GET BACK TO HAVING EVERYBODY COME TOGETHER AND, AND, AND DO SOMETHING OF A CELEBRATION.

HAVE LUNCH AND ALL THAT.

SO THAT IS STILL BEING SO WHERE'S THE MEETING LOCATION? IT WOULD EV WE DON'T KNOW YET, BUT IF IN THE PAST WE'VE MET AT THE SHRINERS, UH, UH, PROPERTY, WHICH IS ON ROULETTE ROAD, AND, UH, IT'S A REALLY VERY NICE RIGHT ON THE LAKE.

IT'S A LOVELY PLACE TO MEET.

AND, UH, WE'LL START WORKING ON THAT.

JUST THIS IS JULY.

WE OUGHT TO BE, WE OUGHTA BE GETTING IT, UH, PLANNED.

UH, HAVING MEETINGS, WHAT IT, AND I'LL KEEP Y'ALL IN FARM.

JUST PUT THOSE DATES DOWN, YOU KNOW, AND WE'LL JUST SAY, YOU KNOW, TBA TO BE ANNOUNCED.

UM, SO WE'VE GOT THOSE THINGS COMING UP.

UM, NO PROBLEM.

OH, I WAS GONNA TALK ABOUT, NOR TEXAS GIVING DAY, THERE'S ANOTHER IMPORTANT DATE.

THAT IS SEPTEMBER THE 22ND.

AND, UM, SEPTEMBER, IF YOU, HOW MANY OF YOU EVERY YEAR LOOK AT THE NORTEX GIVING DAY? ARE Y'ALL FAMILIAR WITH THAT? MM-HMM.

.

WELL, YOU HAVE A CHOICE.

YOU CAN DONATE TO ALL KINDS AND MANY ORGANIZATIONS.

I THINK THEY'RE LIKE 2300.

UH, AND THEY'RE, THEY'RE ALL GOOD.

UH, THEY'RE, YOU KNOW, ON NURSERIES FOR LITTLE KIDS, UH, THINGS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS, UH, AND THE ANIMALS, I MEAN, THAT'S THE ONE THAT GETS ALL THE, A LOT OF THE ATTENTION.

BUT THEY'RE JUST ALL KINDS OF THINGS.

AND KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL IS ON THAT.

UH, WE ARE WITH, UH, THE, UM, NOR TEXAS GIVING DAY.

AND, UH, WE DON'T MAKE A LOT OF MONEY FROM IT, BUT WE DO GET

[00:40:02]

A NICE LITTLE IN, UH, SOME DONATIONS.

AND SO WHEN YOU'RE THINKING OF OUR TEXAS GIVING DAY, GO IN THERE AND FIND, KEEP GOING.

BEAUTIFUL.

AND, UM, THE THING IS, I'M, I'M JUST GONNA MAKE UP A NUMBER.

IF WE GOT, UH, $800 FOR EXAMPLE, THEY ALSO HAVE A GENERAL FROM THE COLLECTION.

IF OUR OURS WAS EXACTLY $800, THEY ALSO GIVE A PERCENT THAT WE WOULD GET ON TOP OF THAT.

AND IT CAN BE, UM, LIKE $150 OR, YOU KNOW, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, WHICH IS REALLY GOOD.

IT ADDS UP.

AND, UM, UH, WE'VE HAD PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE MATCHING FUNDS WITH US, WHICH IS GOOD.

AND SO, UH, UH, THEY HAVE A NEW PROGRAM NOW.

I THINK IT STARTS THE WEEK AHEAD, SO IT'LL BE ABOUT THE 15TH THAT YOU CAN GO ON AND SAY, I WANT TO DONATE AND HAVE, HAVE THIS COME UP ON THE GIVING DAY.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT EXACTLY ON THE 22ND.

I THINK THERE'S A WEEK LEEWAY IN THERE.

SO, BUT PEOPLE WILL SAY, LIKE ME, OH, I FORGOT, I FORGOT THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT DAY.

SO YOU CAN MAKE PLANS, BUT PUT THAT ON YOUR CALENDAR, UH, SEPTEMBER 22ND, AND, UM, BE GENEROUS, .

WE LIKE THAT.

AND SO WHEN WE GET THEIR MONEY FROM NOR TEXAS GIVING DAY, WHEN WE GET, UH, WE HAVE A PERSON ON OUR BOARD, DAVID BARNES, WHO GOES AROUND AND PICKS UP SIGNS AND DOES THE I SIGN.

AND THAT'S A NICE INCOME.

I MEAN, HE, HE DOES THAT.

AND OUT IN SOUTH GARLAND WHERE HE LIVES ALONG BROADWAY AND DIFFERENT, THERE'S A LOT, APPARENTLY, LOTS AND LOTS OF SIGNS.

SO EVERY FEW MONTHS HE WILL TAKE 'EM IN AND COLLECT FOR US.

WE HAVE THAT AS INCOME.

WE DO NOT HAVE DUES IN OUR, UH, AND KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL.

SO ANYTHING WE GET IS LIKE DONATIONS.

SO, UH, WE HAVE, UM, WE HAVE HAD SOME GRANTS AND WE'VE HAVE DAVID PICKING UP THE EYE SIGNS AND WE GET MONEY FROM NOR TEXAS'S GIVING DAY.

SO WHAT DO WE DO WITH THIS MONEY? WE'RE, WE'RE NOT EXACTLY ROLLING IN MONEY, BUT WE DO HAVE SOME, WE HAVE OUR TWO GARDENS THAT WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN.

WE HAVE ONE AT SPRING CREEK AND ONE AT, UM, ARMSTRONG PARK.

AND, UH, WE, UM, GO TO DIFFERENT, UH, EVENTS WHERE WE HAVE INFORMATION.

AND SO, UM, MOST OF THAT INFORMATION WE JUST ORDER FROM EITHER TECH DOT OR ACUTE TEXAS.

BEAUTIFUL.

OR, UH, WE GET CLEANUP SUPPLIES AND THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR, LIKE THOSE GRABBERS THAT YOU, THAT WERE IN THAT PICTURE AND OTHER, UH, UH, SUPPLIES.

WE'VE BEEN REALLY FORTUNATE THAT PAULA BRA SATCHER FROM STORMWATER HAS PROVIDED, UH, GLOVES AND TRASH BAGS.

BUT WE STILL HAVE TO DO, UH, WE GET THINGS LIKE, UM, HAND SANITIZER, UH, THE, THOSE GRABBERS.

AND WE HAVE THESE THINGS THAT GO IN THE TRASH BAGS.

SO WE DO HAVE A BO A UH, WE HAVE MONEY COMING IN, BUT MOST OF IT IS GOING OUT.

UH, AND SO WE'RE ADDING SOMETHING NEW.

AND WE ARE REALLY, THOSE OF US WHO'VE WORKED ON IT ARE VERY PLEASED ABOUT THIS.

AND IT'S GOING TO BE A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP.

THAT'S WHY I WAS ASKING MCKAYLA, WHAT SHE'S, UH, MAJORING IN.

THIS IS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS IN ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS HERE IN GARLAND.

AND, UH, WE DO NOT HAVE AN AMOUNT YET, CUZ WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY WE'RE GOING TO HAVE.

BUT IT'S FOR STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO MAJOR IN, UM, THEY, THEY'RE NOT RESTRICTED TO THIS, BUT THESE ARE SOME IDEAS THEY MIGHT MAJOR IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, SUSTAINABILITY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE.

UH, AND MOST OF THESE CLASSES ARE OR ARE OFFERED IN THE EITHER DALLAS COLLEGE OR, UH, CALLING COLLEGE AND ALL THE MAJOR COLLEGES.

AND SO, UH, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THIS INFORMATION SENT OUT THE, UH, 1ST OF SEPTEMBER TO ALL THE SCHOOLS.

AND PEOPLE CAN START THINKING ABOUT APPLYING TO THIS.

I'LL HAVE TO HAVE THEIR APPLICATION IN BY MARCH OF FIRST.

WE'LL MAKE A, THIS DECISION BY MARCH 31ST.

AND BY THAT TIME WE WILL KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY

[00:45:01]

THAT WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE.

AND THEY WILL HAVE AN APPLICATION TO FILL OUT, OF COURSE, THAT HAS THINGS LIKE, YOU KNOW, YOUR NAME AND YOUR, WHERE YOU LIVE AND YOUR PHONE NUMBERS AND, BUT THEY'LL ALSO HAVE ACADEMIC QU QUESTIONS ABOUT THINGS THAT, UH, AT SCHOOL THEY'LL HAVE THINGS LIKE, ARE YOU EMPLOYED? UH, WHAT, YOU KNOW, UH, UH, HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT HOME? BECAUSE THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE BASED ON ACADEMICS.

THEY'RE BASED ON, UH, ACTIVITIES AND THEY'RE BASED ON INCOME.

SO WE, WE DO HAVE TO GET KINDA NOSY ASKING, DO YOU NEED THIS? UM, AND I'M SURE NEARLY EVERYBODY DOES.

AND THEN THEY'RE ASKED, WHERE DO YOU PLAN TO GO TO SCHOOL? AND, UH, YOUR PLAN, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO STUDY? AND, UM, AND THEY HAVE TO WRITE A PAPER, UH, EXPLAINING WHY THEY WOULD LIKE TO, UH, MAJOR IN ONE OF THESE SUBJECTS AND, UH, WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO DO WITH IT.

AND, UM, IF THEY HAVE DONE VOLUNTEER WORK, WHICH MEANS IF THEY'VE HELPED US DO CLEANUPS, IF THEY'VE DONE OTHER THINGS, UH, THE CLASSES ARE TAKING AND SO ON.

THIS WILL BE ALL, UH, VERY, UH, IMPORTANT TO 'EM.

AND THEN, UM, IN MAR ON, IN MARCH 31ST, AFTER WE MAKE THIS DECISION, UH, WE, THE MONEY THEY RECEIVE, AND I'M GONNA, I'M GOING TO SAY THEY GET A $500 SCHOLARSHIP.

I'M MAKING THIS UP TOO.

WE DON'T KNOW, BUT THEY DO NOT GET THE MONEY.

IT IS SENT DIRECTLY TO THE COLLEGE.

SO WE HAVE TO HAVE THEIR, UH, YOU KNOW, WHERE THEY'RE GOING AND THEIR STUDENT NU UH, ID, UM, UM, SO THAT THEY CAN, UH, IT CAN BE STRAIGHT SENT THERE.

AND, UM, UH, SO NO MONEY IS REALLY GOING TO EXCHANGE HANDS.

IT WILL GO, IT WILL GO TO THE COLLEGE.

SO WE'RE REALLY PLEASED ABOUT THIS.

THIS WILL BE, UM, THIS IS OUR FIRST TIME TO DO THIS.

AND WE HAVE WORKED, UH, HARD COMING UP WITH THIS APPLICATION AND WE REALLY OWE, UH, UM, A LOT OF THANKS TO BARBARA POWERS WHO, UH, SHE HAS A FUND CALLED THE POWERS RUSK FUND, AND THEY REALLY DEAL WITH THE SCOUTS.

BUT BECAUSE OF HER WORK WITH THAT, SHE HELPED US WITH OUR, UH, WORKING OUT ALL THE DETAILS ON THIS SCHOLARSHIP.

OKAY.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? SEE, SO IF YOU DONATE TO, UM, NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY, IT MAY GO TO SOME STUDENT HERE IN THE, IN ONE OF OUR DALLAS SCHOOLS.

AND WE, UH, WE HAVE A LOT OF CLASSES, UH, THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT.

UM, OF COURSE THERE'S THE HORTICULTURE CLASS AT, UM, NAMA FOREST THAT DOES FAREWELL.

AND THEN I THINK FOUR OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE AGRICULTURE.

UH, NOW WE'RE NOT GIVING THESE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE MAJORING IN ANIMAL HUSBANDRY.

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT LAND MANAGEMENT OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW.

UH, AND UH, THEN, UM, THE GUILD CENTER, THEY HAVE A PROGRAM THROUGH THERE TOO.

UH, SO IT'S, IT'S NOT HARD TO FIND STUDENTS WHO WILL BE INTERESTED IN THIS, THIS TOPIC.

SO CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTION? SURE.

SO THIS INITIATIVE IS, UH, CONDUCTED BY OUR ENVIRONMENT BOARD, OR PARDON? THIS INITIATIVE OF SCHOLARSHIP.

THE, IT GOES THROUGH KEEP GARLAND THE SCHOLARSHIP.

KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL.

KEEP BEAUTIFUL.

SO WE WILL BE MAKING A CRITERIA FOR THE ELIGIBILITY.

OH, I'VE ALREADY, WE ALREADY HAVE IT RIGHT HERE.

DIFFERENT.

WE'VE GOT IT.

OKAY, GOT YOU, GOT YOU.

THANK AND THANK YOU.

YEAH.

AND SO IF Y'ALL ARE, YOU KNOW, IF YOU KNOW PEOPLE, UH, WE'RE GONNA SEND OUT THE INFORMATION THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER SO THAT PEOPLE CAN BE, UM, INFORMED OF IT AND THEY CAN, THEY HAVE TO HAVE THEIR APPLICATION IN MARCH 1ST, AND THEN WE WILL DO THE, UH, MAKE, UH, WE NEED A SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR THAT SEPARATE ACCOUNT SO WE CAN GET DONATIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN DONATIONS.

WE CAN, BUT WE'RE, YOU KNOW, SINCE THIS IS, WE'RE JUST NOW STARTING THIS, WE, YEAH, THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS WE NEED TO DO, BUT WE'RE JUST GETTING IT OUT FIRST.

, JUST GET THE INFORMATION OUT AND UH, THEN AFTER THAT YOU JUST KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL BOARD DECIDED TO GET SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS.

HOW IS THAT, HOW THIS CAME OUT? THAT THAT'S WHAT THE BOARD IS ASKING? YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I, I WAS ASKING YOU.

YEAH, WE UH, WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT NOW FOR, OR PART ABOUT A YEAR.

AND IT HAS TAKEN US THAT LONG TO, UM, GET ALL THE GUIDELINES AND GET EVERYTHING

[00:50:01]

FINALIZED AND, AND READY TO SEND OUT.

SO NOW WE'RE READY TO DO THAT.

SO WHAT I WANT Y'ALL TO KNOW IS THAT KEEP GOING.

BEAUTIFUL.

DOESN'T JUST GO AROUND PICKING UP TRASH.

WE DO A FEW OTHER THINGS TO, WE ALSO, WE DO CLASSES.

UM, UH, WE HAVE WORKED WITH THE SCHOOLS AND WE DO, UM, WE, WE DO RECYCLING, GIVE THEM CLASSES OF RECYCLING, COMPOSTING, UH, GARDENING, UM, RAIN BARRELS, RAIN BARRELS, POLLINATORS, UH, JUST ALL KINDS OF THINGS THAT WE, UM, THAT WE, ACTIVITIES THAT WE DO ALL, ALL YEAR LONG.

BUT, UH, THIS, THIS IS A NEW VENTURE FOR US.

SO WE'RE, UH, WE'RE, I, I'M EXCITED ABOUT IT CUZ WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT A LOT, A LONG TIME AND WE'RE FINALLY GETTING IT DONE.

ONE OF THE CRITERIA I ALWAYS APPRECIATE IS THAT THE STUDENT WHO IS GIVING MORE HOURS TO THE COMMUNITY HOURS, UHHUH .

YES.

THEY, YEAH.

ACTIVITIES ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN THIS.

IT'S NOT, YOU KNOW, WITH THE THREE THINGS WE'RE GONNA LOOK AT ARE ACADEMICS, UH, THE ACTIVITIES AND LEAD INCOME.

INCOME, OKAY.

ANYTHING ELSE? THIS WONDERFUL PROGRAM.

APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

DO YOU HAVE ANY, UM, NO ACHIEVEMENTS? NO, BUT WE'RE WORKING ON IT.

WE WILL HAVE PROBABLY OCTOBER, WE'LL HAVE SOMEBODY, WE HAVE SOMEBODY IN MIND AND WE'RE WORKING ON IT.

ALL RIGHT.

KEN, YOU HAVE SOME COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED? ? I PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN OVER INVOLVED, YES.

UH, YES.

UM, COUPLE OF THINGS FROM, COUPLE OF THINGS FROM ON V THE, UH, THIS SATURDAY IS THE HOA LEGAL CLINIC FOR, UH, UH, HOAS AND, AND I BELIEVE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS AS WELL, UH, REPRESENTING THE CITY OF GARLAND, ROWLAND AND ROULETTE AND PLANO.

IT'LL BE UP AT THE HIGHER, UH, PLACE UP ON THE GEORGE BUSH.

THAT'S FROM EIGHT 30 TO 12.

THEY DO THIS QUARTERLY.

AND THIS IS THIS TIME, UH, SATURDAY, JULY 16TH, EIGHT 30, ALSO NEXT THE 23RD.

NEXT WEEK, COUPLE OF WEEKS TO 10 DAYS FROM NOW IS WHEN THE NEXT LETTER OF INTENTS ARE DUE FOR THE HOA GRANTS FOR THE ONES THAT AWARDED IN SEPTEMBER.

UM, ALSO, AREN'T YOU ORCHARD HILLS? MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

A COUPLE OF PEOPLE.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD'S USA, WHICH WE'VE TALKED ABOUT A COUPLE TIMES HERE, HAD THEIR ANNUAL MEETING IN MAY.

AND A COUPLE OF FOLKS FROM, WELL, THE ORCHARD HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION WAS A FINALIST IN THE NA IN THE NEWSLETTER COMPETITION.

YEAH.

SO GOOD ON Y'ALL.

AND ONE OF THE LADIES FROM YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, UM, MISTY? NO, MARGIE.

MARGIE, B MARK.

MARGIE BASS WAS ONE OF THE WHO'S, WHO IN THE GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS WAS THE FINALIST FOR THE NATIONAL, UH, RECOGNITION IN THAT THING.

AND NEIGHBORHOODS USA IS KIND OF LIKE A, IT'S LIKE A, A LARGE ORGANIZATION OF OTHER HOAS AND, AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS AND STUFF.

AND IT DOES RECOGNIZE INDIVIDUALS, DOESN'T IT, AS WELL FROM, IN FACT, THE WOMAN FROM, UM, GARLAND WHO GOT THE, UM, I DON'T, IT'S NOT CALLED CIVIC, UM, AWARD MM-HMM.

, BUT SHE WAS THE ONE WHO WHAT SERVANT OF THE YEAR.

THE SERVANT OF THE YEAR.

SHE'S FROM GARLAND.

YEAH.

SHE GOT THAT AWARD.

SHE WORKS FOR DISASTER.

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

PLANNING OR WHATEVER.

I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU PLAN A DISASTER, BUT ANYWAY, UM, YOU KNOW, SHE WORKS IN THAT.

YEAH.

SO JUST TWO PEOPLE FROM, OR OR TWO RECOGNITIONS FROM ORCHARD HILLS.

MM-HMM.

.

SO SOMETHING'S GOING RIGHT IN Y'ALL'S NEIGHBORHOOD.

RIGHT.

AND THEN OF COURSE THE MOWERS WENT AND THEY WERE RECOGNIZED FROM 11TH STREET.

YEP.

UH, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

YEAH.

THANK YOU.

RIGHT.

WELL, DO WE HAVE ANY CITIZENS, WELL, DO WE HAVE, UM, ANY FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS OR ANNOUNCEMENTS? YEAH, I HAD A COUPLE QU I HAD A, I HAD A COUPLE QUESTIONS FIRST, AND I APOLOGIZE FOR BEING BEHIND THE TIMES, BUT WHEN DID WE, WHEN DID WE SWITCH FROM ENVIRONMENTAL WAYS TO SANITATION? ABOUT A YEAR OR SO AGO.

REALLY? MM-HMM.

.

WOW.

AND WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR THAT? UH, THE, THE, THE LANDFILL WAS CALLED DISPOSAL, WE'RE CALLED DELIVERY.

WE'RE BOTH ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE SERVICES AND ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE DISPOSAL.

DELIVERY AND DISPOSAL.

SO JUST TO MAKE THESE A LITTLE BIT CLEANER,
