IT IS SEVEN O'CLOCK,

[00:00:01]

AND HERE WE ARE.

[Environmental and Community Advisory Board on November 9, 2022.]

MIGHT AS WELL START WITH DAPHNE.

ROLL CALL DAPHNE DEAN, DISTRICT TWO, LET SEVEN SHABU SAMUEL.

DISTRICT THREE.

SORRY.

DISTRICT FOUR, DISTRICT THREE.

BOB BRENTS, DISTRICT THREE, I MEAN FOUR.

I READ THREE.

AND ROBERTS DISTRICT FIVE.

I KNOW WHERE I AM.

ROB.

CO DISTRICT EIGHT AND RISK RAMIREZ APPOINTEE PRESENT.

SO, HELLO EVERYBODY.

WHAT DID YOU DO WHILE I WAS GONE? YOU GOT REELECTED.

I GOT REELECTED.

WELL, THANK YOU.

I THINK .

SO DO WE HAVE, UM, BETTY, DID YOU REVIEW THE MINUTES? I DID IT LOOK GOOD? IT LOOKED FINE.

THERE WAS TOO MINUTES.

NO.

SO IF WE SHOULD, UM, JUST TAKE MY RECOMMENDATION.

TAKE YOUR RECOMMENDATION.

THE MINUTES LOOK GOOD.

ACCORDING TO BETTY.

ANYBODY SEE ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED? YEAH.

YEAH.

OKAY.

WELL, I GUESS I HAVE TO MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS WRITTEN.

I APPROVE.

I I CALLED TO APPROVE.

ALL RIGHT.

THAT SEEMED GOOD ENOUGH TO ME.

OH, WHAT DO WE HAVE FOR TONIGHT NIGHT? I HAVE LAST WEEK'S, BUT NOT THIS WEEK'S.

OH, GOOD LORD.

HELLO? THERE YOU GO.

YEAH, YOU DO.

DEAR GOD.

PLASTICS RECYCLE.

OH, PLASTICS RECYCLING.

.

WHY AM I ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT RECYCLING? I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS.

TALK ABOUT THAT A LOT HERE.

YES, WE DO.

.

ARE WE DOING IT? YES.

HOW IS PLASTICS DOING? HOW IS PLASTICS DOING? WELL, LET'S, LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT.

I SAW SOMEBODY COMPLAIN ON FACEBOOK ABOUT STRANGE PEOPLE I KNOW DIGGING THROUGH THEIR RECYCLE BINS.

THEY WANTED TO REPORT SOMEBODY WITH THE CLIPBOARD AND GLOVES GOING THROUGH THEIR RECYCLE.

I LOOK REAL HOSTILE, DON'T I? I'M SCARY .

OH MY GOD.

I SPILLED COFFEE ALL OVER MYSELF WHEN I READ.

DID YOU? YES.

I'M SO SORRY.

WAS I HAD A FULL CUP.

I STARTED LAUGHING.

YES.

AND YES.

YES.

IT WASN'T PRETTY.

THAT'S OKAY.

THAT'S ALL RIGHT.

YOU KNOW, I, IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT OUR CITIZENS ARE VIGILANT AND CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS, SO, OH, MY.

PUTTING THEM IN THEIR TRASH CANS.

YES.

.

THAT'S ANOTHER STORY.

OH.

BUT, UM, SO YEAH, SO I, I PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER FOR YOU GUYS FOR TONIGHT.

SO, UM, JUST KIND OF TOUCHING ON SOME OF THIS IS INFORMATION THAT I COLLECTED, UH, DURING, UH, THE CONFERENCE THAT I WENT TO BACK IN AUGUST FOR THE RECYCLING.

AND, UM, BUT NOT, NOT A WHOLE LOT OF IT.

CUZ THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE THAT WE HAD THAT CAME THROUGH THAT WAS, THAT WAS REALLY GOOD FOR OUR DEPARTMENTS, UH, IN THE LAST WEEK.

AND SO I KIND OF, I SHIFTED GEARS A LITTLE BIT TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION, BUT, UM, SO THIS IS, IS SOMETHING I'VE HEARD A LOT OF RECENTLY.

YES, I KNOW.

I GET THAT SAME FRUSTRATION.

I WAS IN CLASS YESTERDAY AND MY PROFESSOR HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS DON'T RECYCLE IT ANYWAY, IT GOES STRAIGHT TO THE LANDFILL.

AND I WAS LIKE, SIR, I WILL MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND YOU CAN COME WITH ME AND I WILL SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHERE ALL OF IT GOES.

BUT, UM, YEAH, I GOT A LITTLE, I THINK YOU OUGHT TO OFFER THAT ON FACEBOOK TOO.

YES.

I THINK YOU OUGHT TO ORDER, OFFER A TOUR LIKE ONCE A MONTH WHERE IT'S AN OPEN TOUR.

IF CITIZENS WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT, COME SEE IT.

I MEAN, I, I KNOW THAT BRUCE IS OPEN TO TOURS, SO THAT COULD BE SOMETHING I COULD TALK WITH HIM ABOUT AND SEE, YOU KNOW, IF IT, IF IT'S, YOU KNOW, WHAT OUR CAPACITY WOULD BE, HOW WE COULD MANAGE SOMETHING LIKE THAT BECAUSE COULD SOMEBODY TO SPONSOR IT, MAYBE A RECYCLING COMPANY.

, WHERE I COULD FIND ONE OF THOSE.

UH, BUT THIS IS JUST TO KIND OF, THE RESPONSES I KIND OF GIVE BACK OR TO FOLKS WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT IT IS, YOU KNOW, THAT, YOU KNOW, WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT HERE IS HONESTLY WHEN PEOPLE SAY ONLY 8% GETS RECYCLED.

THAT QUITE FRANKLY, THAT NUMBER IS GENEROUS COMPARED TO WHAT I HEAR.

LIKE I SAID, MY PROFESSOR SAID IT ALL GOES TO THE LANDFILL.

I HAD AN APPOINTMENT YESTERDAY MORNING WITH A NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION AND I HAD ONE PERSON ACTUALLY ASK THAT SAME QUESTION AND SAY, ARE YOU GUYS ACTUALLY DOING IT? CUZ WE HEAR EVERYTHING GOES TO THE LANDFILL.

SO IT'S ONE OF THOSE REPEAT QUESTIONS THAT I GET.

SO, UM, WE HAVE SEVERAL WAYS THAT WE COMBAT THIS, BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I THINK IS INTERESTING TO SHARE WITH THEM IS, YOU KNOW, THAT, THAT WE, YOU KNOW, 80% OF THAT RIGID PLASTICS IS, IS P E T H D P E AND PPP.

AND WHEN YOU'RE, UM, I'M GONNA SHOW YOU ANOTHER SLIDE IN A LITTLE BIT.

THAT IS THE REASON WHY WE'RE TALKING ABOUT PLASTICS TONIGHT.

UM, BECAUSE THIS IS, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THE PLASTIC PACKAGING THAT WE GET, BASICALLY WHAT THIS IS SAYING IS THAT 80% OF WHAT IS IN OUR CONSUMABLES, THE THINGS THAT WE BUY, 80% OF THAT IS RECYCLABLE.

IT CAN GO IN THE BLUE CART, BUT, UM, , SO 21% OF THE PLASTIC, UH, RIGID PLASTIC, UH, IS RECYCLED.

SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT, THEN 80%, AND WE'RE ONLY DOING 20% AS AS A COUNTRY.

SO, UM, THIS, UH, INFORMATION

[00:05:01]

IS FROM 2020.

LIKE I SAID, THIS WAS FROM THE CONFERENCE.

SO THAT WAS FROM 2020.

THEY PUT IT TOGETHER.

SO THIS IS 20, MID 2022 WHEN THEY PUT THIS OUT HERE.

SO WHAT THAT RESULTS IN THAT MISCONCEPTION, THIS IS ACTUALLY A LOAD, THIS IS A PARTICULAR DAY OF THE WEEK PARTICULAR COLOR.

WE KNOW IT IS TRADITIONALLY UGLY.

AND THESE ARE PICTURES I TOOK LAST WEEK ON THAT DAY.

UM, YOU'LL NOTICE YOU KIND OF GLANCE AT IT AND YOU'RE LIKE, OH, WELL THERE'S SOME CARDBOARD AND THERE'S, THERE'S SOME H D P E IN THERE AND SOME ALUMINUM AND THERE'S A LOT OF PLASTIC BAGS, , A LOT OF 'EM, ESPECIALLY IN THAT LAST PICTURE.

UM, BUT WHAT WE DO TO, TO FIGHT TO COMBAT THIS IS PART OF OUR, OUR PROGRAM WITH FCC IS WE DO A BIANNUAL AUDIT TWICE A YEAR.

WE GO OUT, WE WENT OUT IN JUNE AND WE HAD TO, UM, THAT ONE WAS KIND OF LATE.

IT WAS KIND OF HARD FOR US TO GET OUR APPOINTMENT TO GET IN THERE WITH THEM CUZ THEY KEEP REALLY BUSY.

THEY WORK WITH OTHER MUNICIPALITIES, THEY WORK WITH DALLAS AND THEY DO AUDITS FAR MORE OFTEN, I THINK PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF THEIR CITY.

BUT, UM, SO WE GOT PUSHED A LITTLE LATE THIS YEAR IN JUNE, AND THEN WE DID OUR OTHER ONE ON HALLOWEEN.

NOBODY DOESN'T LOVE TO GET UP MORE THAN ME AT THREE IN THE MORNING TO GO AND WATCH RECYCLING GET SORTED.

BUT, UH, , THAT WAS, THAT WAS WHAT I DID ON HALLOWEEN.

AND UH, SO I'M GONNA KIND OF SHOW YOU BASICALLY WHAT WE DISCOVERED OUT THERE.

SO WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT HERE IS, I PUT, THREW THE NUMBERS INTO THIS GRAPH REAL QUICK THIS AFTERNOON CUZ I, I SAW THIS NUMBERS AND I WAS LIKE, YEAH, WE NEED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOU ALL.

SO WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT HERE IS, UM, BOTH AUDITS.

SO THE BLUE IS OUR JUNE AUDIT AND THE ORANGE IS WHAT WE DID JUST LAST WEEK.

SO WHAT I REALLY WANNA POINT OUT MOSTLY IS OUR, UM, OUR MIXED PAPER THAT JUMPED WAY UP.

THE, UM, CARDBOARD IS OF COURSE THE OCC IS STILL ABOUT THE SAME.

I WAS EXCITED TO SEE THE GLASS I'VE IN.

YES.

DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND ALL THOSE ACRONYMS? YEAH.

CAN CAN YOU GO OVER THOSE A PLEASE? I CAN .

OKAY.

SORRY.

ALL RIGHT.

SO THE OCC IS, UH, THE THICKER CARDBOARDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO YOU'RE GONNA THINK LIKE ALONG THOSE LINES, MIXED PAPER IS GONNA BE THINGS LIKE THIS OR, UM, THINK IT'S CALLED CHIPBOARD.

I'M LOOK, I'M GONNA LOOK AT BOB CHIPBOARD GOES WITH THE CORRUGATED WITH THE CORRUGATED CARDBOARD.

OH NO.

WHEN I LOOK AT THE, UM, WHAT THEY'VE COMPACTED TOGETHER, IT FALLS INTO BOTH.

SO YES, IT, YEAH.

THE WAY THEY'RE SORT IT.

THERE'S ALSO PAPER IN THERE.

YES, YES.

IT DRIVES YOU CRAZY BECAUSE MY BUSINESS RECYCLING IS VERY STRICT ON HOW YOU SORT SORT IT OUT AND THEN YOU SEND IT OUT AND YOU GO LOOK AT HOW THEY'RE SENDING IT OUT.

AND IT'S LIKE, WHY DID I SORT THIS ? I'M SORRY, .

WE ALL HAVE OUR TANGENTS.

I GET IT.

I GET IT.

SO, UM, BUT YEAH, SO THE, THE MIX PAPER IS GONNA BE THE STUFF THAT'S, THAT'S THINNER THAN THE CARDBOARD.

SO, UM, YOU'LL ALSO FIND, LET'S SEE, WHAT DO WE HAVE IN HERE? P E T.

I'VE GOT MY CHEAT SHEET IN FRONT OF ME.

I'M GONNA OWN THAT.

I HAD THAT.

SO THAT'S LIKE WATER BOTTLES, THOSE THINNER PLASTICS, THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

UM, H D P E NATURAL IS MORE LIKE, UM, MILK JUGS, THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

THE, THE LIGHTER, THINNER H D P E COLOR.

THINK ALONG THE LINES OF DETERGENT BOTTLES.

YES.

I'M GONNA LET BOB DO IT FOR ME.

.

OKAY.

PLASTICS THREE THROUGH SEVEN.

OKAY.

SO THAT ONE IS SOME OTHER KINDS OF DETERGENT BOTTLES.

THINK LIKE SHAMPOO.

YEP, YEP, YEP.

THE, UH, SQUEEZE BOTTLES, LIKE YOUR KETCHUP, MUSTARD, THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

UM, YOGURT CONTAINERS.

THIS WAS SOMETHING I WAS EXCITED TO HEAR.

THEY REALLY LOVE THOSE OUT THERE.

AND WE DON'T BRING ENOUGH OF 'EM IN.

WE DON'T OFTEN THOSE IN.

AND THAT'S THE NUMBER FIVES, NUMBER SEVEN, UH, LARGE WATER BOTTLES, SOME KINDS OF FOOD CONTAINERS.

JUST SOMETHING THAT'S A LITTLE MORE HEAVY.

RIGHT.

I'M LOOKING CONTINUE TO YOU, I'M GONNA DEFER TO YOU.

YOU GONNA, YOU CAN HELP ME OUT.

.

UM, EVEN LIKE GAS CANS, THAT SORT OF, YES.

YEAH, THAT, THAT'S STURDY.

STURDY PLASTICS.

AND THEN OF COURSE YOU GUYS KNOW ALUMINUM, THE STEEL TIN.

YOU'RE GONNA THINK OF THE STUFF LIKE YOUR, UH, CANNED FRUIT.

YEAH.

THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

UM, SCRAP STEEL.

I THINK THOSE KIND OF THINGS ARE PRETTY, YOU KNOW, STEEL TIN, THOSE KIND OF THINGS ARE PRETTY OBVIOUS WHAT THOSE ARE.

UM, THEN THE THREE MIX GLASS, WE TALKED ABOUT THAT ONE BEFORE.

THAT'S BASICALLY, UH, ALL THE COLORS, ALL THE DIFFERENT KIND.

IT'S ALL MIXED TOGETHER.

IT'S USED TO MAKE, AT THE, TELL ME IF I'M PRONOUNCING THIS WRONG COLOR.

MM-HMM.

, THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY TO PRONOUNCE IT.

AND IT'S BASICALLY USED TO, TO UM, MAKE MORE GLASS.

SO, UM, AND THEN SAME WITH PLASTIC.

WHEN YOU SHRED IT RIGHT, IT GOES DOWN TO COLOR SIZE.

MM-HMM.

.

IT GOES BACK TO THE MILLS.

YES.

YES.

SO, UM, I ALWAYS LIKE, LIKE I SAID, I LIKE TO LOOK AT THE COLOR CUZ THEY BRING IT OUT IN THESE BIG BINS AND IT'S ALL SHATTERED IN ALL THE DIFFERENT COLORS.

IT'S REALLY PRETTY.

UM, BUT ANYWAY, THE, UH, TRASH LEVEL, THIS IS WHY WE'RE DOING THIS TONIGHT.

THIS IS WHY I BROUGHT THIS UP.

I WANT YOU GUYS TO LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE.

I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER, OKAY, SO THIS WAS DONE ON JUNE 13TH.

I STARTED AUDITING AND VISITING AND REALLY PUSHING TO LOOK IN PEOPLE'S CARTS AND TALKING TO THEM IN JULY.

AND THEN LOOK AT WHERE WE'RE AT NOW ON OUR TRASH.

WE HAVE BROUGHT IT DOWN 16%.

[00:10:01]

GOOD JOB.

SO I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THAT TO? A LOT OF TALKING AND A LOT OF SORE THROAT .

SO HAS TO BE EDUCATION.

IT IS, I REALLY BELIEVE IT'S THE EDUCATION.

YEAH.

GETTING OUT AND TALKING TO PEOPLE.

UM, GETTING INTO THE COMMUNITY, UH, THE SOCIAL MEDIA STUFF.

I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE GONNA POP OVER.

SO, UM, THIS JUST KIND OF, YOU GUYS KNOW WE'VE BEEN PUTTING THOSE QUICK TIPS OUT.

SO WE'VE UH, GOT A PRETTY GOOD NUMBER OF 'EM.

I FEEL LIKE IT'S OVER 20 THAT WE HAVE PUT TOGETHER WITH MARKETING BETWEEN OZ AND I.

AND I HAVE TO GIVE HIM CREDIT BECAUSE HE DID, UH, WHEN I HAD THE INTERN THERE AND WE WERE STILL WORKING ON GETTING CIS OUT, HE HELPED ME GET A LOT OF THESE OUT WHILE I WAS BUSY WITH THAT.

SO HE PICKED UP THE SLACK FOR ME AND I APPRECIATE THAT A LOT.

UM, BUT YES, SO THESE ARE THE DIFFERENT THINGS.

AND THEN WE HAVE STARTED TO CYCLE THROUGH THEM AGAIN.

BUT NOW WE ARE ADDING IN SPANISH.

SO WHEN WE POST THEM, THEY GO SIDE BY SIDE YOUR ENGLISH AND YOUR SPANISH OUT AT THE SAME TIME.

AND THEN THEY GO OUT.

I THINK WE HAVE ON INSTAGRAM, WE PUT OUT THE REELS, THE LITTLE VIDEOS AND THOSE WE DON'T PUT OUT ON THE SAME DAY USUALLY.

I THINK WE DO LIKE ONE ON MONDAY AND ONE ON WEDNESDAY.

BUT THE SOCIAL MEDIA ON LIKE THE STILL IMAGES, INSIG, LIKE ANY PLACE THAT WE WOULD PUT A STILL IMAGE, WE DO BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH AT THE SAME TIME.

SO THAT ONE IS ONE.

AND THESE ARE SOME THINGS THAT I'VE, WE'VE KIND OF BEEN BRAINSTORMING ON WAYS THAT WE CAN EXPAND IT BECAUSE WE'VE SEEN THIS DIFFERENCE WHERE IT'S COMING DOWN.

AND SO THESE WERE JUST SOME OF THE IDEAS THAT I'VE, I'VE THROWN TOGETHER.

UM, BUT THIS IS, UH, COMMUNITY EDUCATION EVENTS.

WE'RE ALREADY DOING, YOU KNOW, SMALL GROUPS AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

BUT I THOUGHT, YOU KNOW, IF WE CAN MAYBE GET WITH MARKETING AND PUT TOGETHER A VIDEO THAT'S AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE.

WE'RE REVAMPING THE CITY'S WEBSITES AND WE'RE TRYING TO COME UP WITH DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE GONNA BE MORE, MORE INTERACTIVE FESTIVALS.

YEAH.

SO WE'RE, AND WE ARE LOOKING AT, UH, NOT EARTH DAY FOR 2023, BUT 2024 GO GREEN GARLAND IS GOING TO DO A MORE EDUCATIONAL EVENT WHERE WE'RE GONNA WANNA BRING IN SPEAKERS AND WE'LL HAVE BOOTHS AND STUFF SET UP AT THE ATRIUM WHERE PEOPLE CAN COME IN AND THEY CAN INTERACT AND MAYBE EVEN HAVE CLASSES AND THAT KIND OF STUFF GOING ON TO DO MORE IN THE COMMUNITY FOR MORE EDUCATION.

UM, BUT THE, UH, PLASTIC OF THE MONTH, THAT WAS KIND OF ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO DO.

CUZ IF WE GO BACK, LET ME SEE IF I CAN, NOPE.

OH DARN IT.

.

I DIDN'T WANT Y'ALL TO SEE THAT.

.

YOU CAN HIT THE ARROWS.

LET ME SEE.

THERE YOU GO.

OKAY.

I WANNA POP BACK OVER HERE BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY ALSO BOTHERED ME ABOUT THIS, I GOT SO EXCITED ABOUT THE TRASH, BUT THEN WHEN I STARTED TALKING ABOUT THE PLASTICS, I'M LOOKING AT STILL THESE NUMBERS ARE REALLY LOW FOR OUR PLASTICS.

THE P E T WENT UP, YOU KNOW, THE, BUT THAT'S FLEXIBLE.

THAT JUST KIND OF, YOU KNOW, THAT COULD BE ANY KIND OF FLUKE ON THAT ONE.

BUT I WANNA SEE MORE OF THESE PLASTICS IN HERE.

SO THAT'S WHY I WAS KIND OF THINKING THIS PLASTIC OF THE MONTH, MAYBE KIND OF FOCUS ON ONE, WHETHER IT'S THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA OR HOW WE WOULD, YOU KNOW, GET THE WORD OUT.

BUT I'M STILL KIND OF FLUSH THAT OUT AND JUST BE LIKE, HEY, THIS MONTH MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE PUTTING ALL YOUR LAUNDRY DETERGENT, BOTTLES, YOU KNOW, AND THEY'RE ALL YOUR SHAMPOO BOTTLES.

OR JUST KIND OF FOCUS ON ONE ITEM.

UH, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I PICKED UP AT THE CONFERENCE FROM SAN ANTONIO WAS THAT THEY WERE DOING, UM, JUST LITERALLY FOCUSING ON FOUR ITEMS THAT IT WAS, YOU KNOW, PLASTICS, PAPERS, METAL AND GLASS.

THAT WAS IT.

THEY'RE LIKE, WE DON'T CARE WHAT ELSE.

WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE PUTTING ALL OF THOSE ITEMS IN THERE.

AND THEY SAW AN INCREASE.

SO I WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW, WITH LOOKING AT HOW LOW OUR PLASTIC RECYCLING IS, IF WE CAN REALLY FOCUS ON, YOU KNOW, ONE TYPE OF PLASTIC, MAYBE GIVE THEM A SPECIFIC NUMBER.

BUT IT'S STILL SOMETHING THAT I'M KIND OF PUTTING TOGETHER.

SO THIS IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT I WANNA DO.

AND THEN POSSIBLY MAYBE EVEN MAKING THIS HASHTAG CAMPAIGN IDEA.

UM, YOU KNOW, HAVE PEOPLE TAKE A PICTURE OF THEMSELF RECYCLING THEIR PLASTICS, YOU KNOW, KIDS GET A KICK OUTTA DOING THAT KIND OF STUFF, YOU KNOW, AND MOM AND DAD WANNA PUT THIS PICTURE AND THEY PUT IT OUT THERE AND THEN, I DON'T KNOW, SOME KIND OF, YOU KNOW, LITTLE GIFT BAG OR SOMETHING TO GO ALONG WITH IT.

DRAW, DO A DRAWING OR SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES.

JUST TO ENCOURAGE MORE OF THAT, TO GET MORE OF THE PLASTICS OUT OF OUR LANDFILL AND INTO OUR RECYCLING.

IS THE GRAPH DONE BY WEIGHT? I'M SORRY? IS YOUR GRAPH DONE BY WEIGHT? IT'S THE COMMODITIES.

I THINK THEY WERE DONE ON WEIGHT.

YOU'RE ASKING ME, I CAN'T REMEMBER THAT.

I IT'S EITHER WEIGHT OR VOLUME.

YEAH, YEAH.

NO, IT'S WEIGHT.

IT'S WEIGHT.

CUZ THAT'S WHAT WE WERE SITTING THERE AND THEY'VE GOT THE BIG WEIGHT VERY MUCH MM-HMM.

.

SO A SMALL INCREASE MIGHT NOT EVEN BE NOTICEABLE.

NOTICEABLE REALLY? I THE UH, MARGINS OF YOUR WEIGHT ON THERE.

YEAH.

YEAH.

YOU WON'T EVEN KNOW IF YOU'RE 10% UP BECAUSE MM-HMM.

PROBABLY NEED TO LOOK AT IT AND PULL THOSE OUT SEPARATELY.

YES.

TO LOOK AT THE GRAPH, TO LOOK AT THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE ON THOSE.

THAT'S A GOOD POINT.

I'LL KEEP THAT IN MIND.

YOU UP THE BOOTH AT SOME OF THE FESTIVALS AROUND TOWN AND MM-HMM.

BE EDUCATING KIDS AND GIVING THEM STUFF.

YES.

BE PRETTY EASY TO DO.

ABSOLUTELY.

CHRISTMAS AT FIRE WHEEL WE'LL

[00:15:01]

BE THERE.

WE'LL BE THERE.

, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF RECYCLABLE THINGS BEING SOLD THERE.

OH YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.

IT'S KETTLE CORN BAGS NOT RECYCLABLE.

NOPE.

BUT, BUT I MEAN THAT'S SOMETHING YOU CAN, AND THEN YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHY, YOU KNOW MM-HMM.

, YOU CAN HAVE WHY PLASTIC BAGS AREN'T RIGHT.

RIGHT.

SEND 'EM AWAY WITH THE LITTLE BADGE OR SOMETHING.

THEY'LL BE HAPPY.

ABSOLUTELY.

I GOT PLENTY OF STICKERS TO GIVE AWAY ALL THE STICKERS AND I KEEP ORDERING MORE CUZ THE STATE JUST SENDS 'EM TO ME WHENEVER I ASK .

BUT THE, UH, SO THE LAST PART, THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT UAL CAME UP WITH LAST WEEK.

UM, AND IT GOES ALONG HAND IN HAND WITH THAT, YOU KNOW, FOLKS CONSTANTLY GOING, OH, WELL IT'S JUST GOING TO THE LANDFILL.

IT'S JUST GOING TO THE LANDFILL.

SO I'M WORKING WITH PMR, WE'RE STARTING TO PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER, PUTTING TOGETHER A PLAN.

WE'RE GONNA DO AN ACTUAL VIDEO GOING FROM CURBSIDE HERE IN GARLAND.

BEING PICKED UP WITH A TRUCK BROUGHT OUT TO THE, UH, RECYCLING AREA AT THE TRANSFER STATION.

GETTING COMPACTED, TAKING OUT TO FCC, WATCHING THE SORTING PROCESS AND THEN GETTING BUNDLED UP AND EVERYTHING AND SHOWING THEM THAT YES, IT REALLY IS GETTING RECYCLED.

IT IS GETTING SORTED FROM YOUR CURBSIDE CONTAINER AND IT IS BEING SOLD TO COMPANIES WHO ARE GOING TO REUSE THE PRODUCT.

SO THAT WAS KIND OF, UH, I'M EXCITED ABOUT IT.

IT'S LIKE I SAID, IT'S VERY EARLY AND WE JUST REACHED OUT TO THEM LAST WEEK AND I WAS TALKING WITH THEM TODAY MORE ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT WE WANT, WHAT OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE AND HOW WE'RE GONNA, HOW WE'RE GONNA, I GUESS, SET UP OUR SCRIPT AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.

WE'RE ALSO TALKING ABOUT, UM, SPEAKING WITH FOLKS OUT AT FCC SO THAT THEY CAN GIVE, YOU KNOW, ACTUAL MORE INFORMATION FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE ON IT AS WELL.

BUT, UM, YEAH, THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT I'VE GOT FOR YOU TODAY ABOUT OUR RECYCLING AREA AND ESPECIALLY FOCUSING ON OUR PLASTICS.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME OR I HAD A QUESTION OTHER THAN BOB, WHAT OTHER RECYCLED RECYCLER RECYCLING BUSINESSES DO WE HAVE HERE IN TOWN? WE HAVE, UM, THE PAPER ONE THAT IS YES.

YES.

IT'S WHATEVER THERE'S ON.

MM-HMM.

THERE'S, THERE'S QUITE A FEW, ESPECIALLY METAL RECYCLERS.

MM-HMM.

.

OH, THESE SIX OR SEVEN THAT I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW.

YOU HAVE THAT ENCORE ARE THE TWO BIG ONES.

MM-HMM.

, I WOULD LIKE TO BRING THE J MET PEOPLE IN, THEY BOUGHT A PART OF GARLAND STEEL AND UM, ARE PUTTING IN COMPACTING EQUIPMENT AND PROCESS EQUIPMENT, WHICH MEANS FEWER TRUCKS ON THE ROAD IN GARLAND BECAUSE THEY'RE COMBINING EVERYTHING RATHER THAN SENDING IT OUT IN THOSE BIG TUBS.

THEY'RE SMASHING IT DOWN AND BAILING IT.

THEY'RE DOING A SUPER JOB.

YOU MAY KNOW THIS CAUSE I USED TO TAKE THE TRAIN TO WORK AND THERE'S A PLACE THAT YOU PASS HERE OFF THE, ON THE TRAIN STATION NEAR THE FOREST LANE TRAIN STATION.

MM-HMM.

, WHERE THEY JUST CUBE ALL THE JUNK METAL.

JIM, WHAT'S THAT, JIM? IT'S GARLAND.

WHAT DO THEY DO WITH THOSE CUBES? SELL 'EM TO WHO? IT'S CUZ IT'S PILING UP.

WELL IT DEPENDS ON THE MARKET MARKET'S DOWN WAY NOW.

SO NOBODY'S SHIPPING STEEL.

THEY'LL HANG ONTO IT UNTIL THE PRICES GO UP FOR STEEL AND THEY GO TO THE MILLS AND IT TURNS INTO NEW STEEL.

BUT THERE'S NOT THAT MUCH ROOM AT THAT, AT THAT PLACE.

AND I, IT'S, THEY'VE GOT LIKE 40 ACRES OR STORIES HIGH.

SO I THINK THEY'VE GOT 48 METAL CUBES.

YEAH.

I MEAN IF YOU FIGURE OUT HOW MANY PER CONTAINER, THEY'LL GO OUT ON TRAINS PROBABLY FROM THERE.

BUT RIGHT NOW THE MARKET'S WAY DOWN.

SO WHEN YOU SEE THE PILES GO UP, IT MEANS THE MARKET'S DOWN.

IT'S NOT WORTH PROCESSING OR THERE'S A SHORTAGE OF SHIPPING CONTAINERS.

NOT AT ALL.

NOT AT ALL.

THERE IS, BUT THE, BUT THE FUEL TO SHIP IT OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY IS NOT WORTH THE VALUE OF THE METAL ITSELF.

SO THAT'S REALLY THE KEY PROBLEM ON, ON ALL OF IT.

THE FUNNY THING IS, PEOPLE ASK RECYCLING COMPANIES, ARE YOU SURE THAT'S GETTING RECYCLED AFTER YOU SELL IT? AND I'M LIKE, WHO BUYS STUFF NOT TO, THEY'RE NOT GONNA USE.

OKAY.

SO YES, I'M SURE IT'S GONNA BE USED, BUT IT'S, IT'S ANOTHER QUESTION FOR YOU, AND I'M NOT TRYING TO PUT YOU BACK IN THE TRASH CAN , WHAT HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT LOOKING AT THE, THE TRASH TRASH CAN THE CITY, WHAT'S IN THERE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RECYCLED? WE HAVEN'T GONE THAT ROUTE YET.

UH, I KNOW THAT IT IS SOMETHING THAT THERE ARE OTHER MUNICIPALITIES, NOT THAT MANY IN TEXAS, BUT I KNOW UP IN THE NORTHEAST AND THE NORTHWEST, THEY ABSOLUTELY DO THAT.

UM, I THINK RIGHT NOW, IF I COULD, IF WE COULD GET A GRASP ON THEM KEEPING THE TRASH OUT OF THE BLUE, THEN MAYBE WE COULD TAKE A STEP TOWARDS THE GREEN AND TRY TO CORRECT THAT BEHAVIOR TOO.

BUT IT'S, IT'S A, YOU KNOW, I THINK WE'VE GOT OUR, OUR LITTLE STEPS THAT WE'RE MAKING OUR WAY THROUGH.

BUT I DO.

YEAH, I KNOW THAT.

I SEE STUFF IN THERE AND, AND I HAD, UM, WHO WAS I SPEAKING TO TODAY? IT WAS SOMEBODY WAS, I THINK IT WAS AT, I HAD DINNER AT MY CHURCH TONIGHT AND THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT, UM, ONE OF THE KIDS WAS COMPLAINING BECAUSE THEY ARE, UM, THEY'RE PUTTING THE RECYCLING IN THE TRASH CAN AT THEIR HOUSE.

AND THE MOM IS LIKE, THE CONTAINER'S

[00:20:01]

COMPLETELY FULL.

YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT IT ALL PULLED AND SET ASIDE, BUT IF WE KEEP HOLDING ONTO IT TILL THE NEXT TIME, THEN WERE, THE PILES JUST GONNA KEEP GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER.

SO OF COURSE I TOLD EM, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN BRING IT AND DROP IT OFF, YOU KNOW, IF YOU REALLY WANT TO.

BUT THIS KID IS REALLY MAD , YOU KNOW, IT'S LIKE WHY ARE WE PUTTING IT IN THE TRASH? BUT WHEN THEY RUN OUTTA SPACE, YOU KNOW, SO, AND THAT IS AGAIN PART OF THE EDUCATION PROGRAM BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT REALIZE THAT, YOU KNOW, ON A SATURDAY, YOU KNOW, YOU, IF I UNDERSTAND MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY YOU MIGHT BE WORKING, BUT ON A SATURDAY YOU CAN, YOU CAN RUN UP THERE AND IT TAKES YOU, YOU KNOW, FIVE SECONDS TO THROW IT OUT THERE INTO THE BIG BLUE CONTAINER.

MM-HMM.

.

SO GOT STUPID QUESTION.

IT JUST DAWNED ON ME.

CUZ HALLOWEEN , YOU KNOW, AFTER CHRISTMAS THERE'S A, A KIND OF A DRIVE TO RECYCLE CHRISTMAS TREES AND THEY, THE CITY WILL GRIND THEM AND MAKE MULCH OUT OF THEM.

WOULD THERE BE ANY INTEREST IN HAVING A RECYCLED PUMPKIN JUNK OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT? BECAUSE ALL THE PEOPLE THAT BUY PUMPKINS.

AND THEN WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A PUMPKIN AFTER IT? CAUSE IT'S JUST GONNA ROT.

SEE AND I'M LUCKY I LIVE RIGHT THERE BY THAT WILLIAMS FARM, SO WE GIVE 'EM TO THE DONKEYS ALREADY.

THROW DOWN THE PRESERVE.

.

WELL, CAUSE I MEAN, YOU, YOU COULD MAKE MULCH OR, OR FOOD OR SOMETHING OUT OF, I JUST THROW ON OVER THE GREEN BELT UHHUH AND THE WILDLIFE EATS IT.

YES.

THAT'S, BUT THERE'S GOTTA BE SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE COULD BRING IT TO WHERE I KNOW THERE'S A PLACE IN RLA, THERE IS ANOTHER GOAT FARM OUT THERE.

I KNOW THAT THEY LIKE TO TAKE THEM.

I DON'T KNOW, ARE YOU GUYS OKAY ROBERT IF THEY THROW 'EM OUT ON THE PRESERVE? ? I DUNNO HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT.

ABOUT IT, BUT I MEAN, WE HAVEN'T BEEN OVERWHELMED BY THAT.

WHAT WOULD THE FARM, SO IT'S NOT SOMETHING WE WANNA ADVERTISE.

PUMPKINS COMING UP NEXT YEAR.

YEAH.

IS THERE SOME PLACE THAT MIGHT HAVE AN INTEREST IN GROWING A PUMPKIN PATCH? MISS BETTY? I HAVE NO IDEA.

.

THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING CUZ IT WOULD BE RECYCLING IT, REUSING IT.

HOWEVER, WHEN YOU USE IT FOR A JACKLINE AND YOU GENERALLY IT'S NOT MUCH.

IT CAN ALL THE SEEDS OUT.

YOU CAN, BUT IT COULD COMPOST OR SOMETHING.

RIGHT.

ABSOLUTELY.

COMPOST IF YOU'VE GOT THE SEEDS OUT.

YEAH.

THAT'S UM, SO WHAT ABOUT A DRIVE TO HAVE BUDDY BRING THEIR PUMPKINS SOMETIME? I DON'T WANT 'EM IN MY YARD.

.

YOU WANT 'EM IN YOURS? NO, I HAD TO CARRY, THAT'S WHY, THAT'S WHY S TO CARRY MY 30 POUND OFF TODAY AROUND WHERE WE GOING.

IT FELL APART IN MY HANDS.

WELL THAT'S SOMETHING I CAN LOOK INTO THOUGH.

I CAN, I CAN DO SOME.

I MEAN IT MIGHT BE RESEARCH IT BE FUN, MIGHT YEAH, I'M VERY NOR THEY DO A PUMPKIN CHUNK.

MM-HMM.

.

AND YOU KNOW, IT'S SOMETHING THAT AT THE END OF THE YEAR FOR TOMATOES, THEY DO A TOMATO TRO A THROW.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST ALL SORTS OF CRAZY STUFF YOU CAN DO WITH, BUT TO USE THAT STUFF TO RE, SINCE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT RECYCLING IT MM-HMM.

TO USE IT FOR SOMETHING THAT MIGHT HAVE A CONSTRUCTIVE PURPOSE AND BE FUN AT THE, UH, ARBORETUM IF ANYBODY WENT TO THE ARBORETUM, THEY HAVE, THEY SAID THEY HAD A HUNDRED THOUSAND PUMPKINS.

I DID NOT COUNT THEM I THE WORD FOR IT.

BUT AFTER THEY SELL SOME, BUT WHEN THAT'S OVER, THEY TAKE 'EM TO THE ZOO AND FEED 'EM, GET 'EM TO THE ELEPHANTS AND, AND THE, AND THE GIRAFFES GAFFS ANDES.

AND THEY, UH, TAKE, THAT'S HOW THEY RECYCLE THEIRS.

OKAY.

SO YOU MIGHT JUST TAKE 'EM AND DROP 'EM OFF AT THE ARBORETUM .

WELL, WELL I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE SOMETHING FOR RECYCLING EVENT.

I MEAN WE'RE RECYCLING GREASE RECYCLING, YOU KNOW, AND THERE'S SUCH A DEMAND FOR THAT AT HALLOWEEN.

ANYWAY, JUST A THOUGHT.

THAT'S A GOOD THOUGHT.

I CAN LOOK INTO IT CUZ I FEEL LIKE THERE'S, UH, I KNOW THAT THERE'S COMPOSTING COMPANIES IN THE AREA TOO AND THEY MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN, IN RECEIVING THEM.

SO THAT SOMETHING I CAN LOOK INTO AND FIND OUT SO WE CAN HAVE IT, THAT INFORMATION FOR NEXT YEAR.

COOL.

MM-HMM.

.

THANK YOU.

I HAVE A QUESTION, MICHELLE.

SO THE EDUCATION COMPONENT, DO YOU HAVE ANY PARTNERSHIPS? I KNOW YOU'RE VERY LIMITED WITH STAFF, BUT DO YOU PARTNER WITH SCHOOLS? I KNOW CAUSE THAT'S LIKE, SO WHAT DO YOU DO? LIKE, DO YOU DO ESPECIALLY JUST LAST WEEK I WAS OUT AT, UM, WALNUT GLEN.

OKAY.

SO WHENEVER, UM, STAFF ASK ME FOR THE, AT THE SCHOOLS, I WILL COME OUT AND DO A PRESENTATION.

THEY HAVE A STEM PROGRAM THERE.

AND SO THEY'VE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT FIELDS WHERE IT WAS, YOU KNOW, SCIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING, MATH, THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

SO THERE WAS QUITE A GROUP OF US THAT HAD COME OUT AND WE WORKED, YOU KNOW, KIND OF BOUNCED OUR WAY AROUND TO DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS AND TALKED ABOUT WHAT WE DO FOR A LIVING AND WHY IT'S IMPORTANT MM-HMM.

FOR THE COMMUNITY AND THAT KIND OF THING.

SO, UM, I'VE GONE OUT THERE, UH, WE'VE DONE SOME, UH, EDUCATION.

THE OUTDOOR ONES ARE, ARE USUALLY FUN BECAUSE, UH, ONE OF THE GUYS WILL COME WITH THE TRUCK AND WILL, WILL LET THE KIDS WATCH 'EM OPERATE IT, YOU KNOW, WITH THE DOOR OPEN SO THEY CAN SEE 'EM, USE THE JOYSTICK TO PICK UP THE CONTAINERS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.

MM-HMM.

.

UM, AND THEN WE HAVE OF COURSE ALWAYS HAVE FOLKS COME OUT TO THE TRANSFER STATION, DEPENDING ON THEIR AGE WHEN THEY'RE OLDER KIDS, LIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL, I WILL GO AHEAD AND TAKE THEM UP THE HILL TO THE ACTUAL, UH, TRANSFER STATION AREA WHERE WE CAN EMPTY THE YOUNGER

[00:25:01]

ONES.

I KEEP IN THE RECYCLING CENTER, JUST THE HILL MAKES ME NERVOUS WITH .

LIKE THE LAST THING I WANNA DO IS LOSE SOMEBODY'S KID OFF THE TOP.

I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD HAPPEN, BUT I, I'M NOT READY TO RISK THAT WITH A KINDERGARTNER.

SO THAT'S GOOD.

BUT YES, I KNOW, UM, TEACHERS ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT WAYS TO EXPOSE THEIR CHILDREN AND, YOU KNOW, KIDS ARE, ARE NEXT GENERATION OR RECYCLER.

ABSOLUTELY.

THAT'S GREAT THAT YOU HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH THEM AND JUST MAKING SURE SCHOOLS KNOW HOW TO ACCESS AND GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU.

YES.

SO WE, UM, I ACTUALLY MET TODAY WITH TOM WHITLEY.

UH, HE IS, UH, AT G I S D.

HE HANDLES OUR COMMUNICATION MOSTLY WITH OUR SANITATION SERVICES THROUGH THERE AS WELL.

BUT HE, UM, AS HE PROVIDED ME WITH INFORMATION FOR CONTACTS IN OUR CAFETERIA AS WELL, SO I CAN WORK WITH THEM SOME MORE.

OKAY.

AND, UM, WE KIND OF TALKED ABOUT THE BEST PRACTICES AND APPROACHES FOR EACH CAMPUS, DEPENDING ON, YOU KNOW, WHERE THEY'RE LOOK NEEDED, WHO'S THE BEST PERSON TO CONTACT.

MM-HMM.

.

THAT'S GOOD.

THOSE, UM, IF YOU HAVE, YOU KNOW, HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION OR A ZOOM MEETING WITH THEM.

YES.

I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT.

I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT.

SPEAKING OF, I WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN.

MICHELLE CAME OUT TO OUR NATIONAL NET OUT FOR OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS.

SO JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING OUT.

ABSOLUTELY.

I REALLY ENJOYED MEETING EVERYONE AND THEY, THEY DID, THEY HAD SOME GREAT QUESTIONS.

MM-HMM.

, IT WAS GOOD TO GET TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE THAT OH, DEFINITELY ASK HER TO COME OUT.

SHE, YOU, YOU'RE AMAZING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU .

BUT, UM, YEAH, I'D LIKE TO DO MORE OF THOSE WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE, THAT ARE NOT NECESSARILY GOING TO BE IN PERSON.

I'M, I'M MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO ZOOM, ZOOM STILL.

I'VE NOTICED PEOPLE, MOST OF THEM, THEY, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THROW IN THE BLUE AND WHAT TO THROW IN THE GREEN.

MM-HMM.

, YOU KNOW, I'M HERE FOR THAT.

YES.

JUST LET ME KNOW WHEN AND WHERE AND I'LL LOG IN.

, I THINK THIS YEAR WAS THE FIRST YEAR WE COULD GO BACK.

I WENT TO GRANDPARENTS TODAY AT ONE OF MY GRANDCHILDREN'S SCHOOLS.

MM-HMM.

AND THE KIDS DECIDE WHERE TO PUT THE STUFF IN THE, IN THE CAFETERIA.

OH.

IN WHAT CAN TO PUT IT IN SO THAT, THAT LUNCHTIME ITSELF WOULD BE AN OPPORTUNITY.

THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING.

YOU KNOW? YEAH.

I MEAN, JUST A QUICK, EASY OPPORTUNITY.

MM-HMM.

TO, UH, SO THIS IS A BLUE CAN PUT A BLUE BAG IN ONE OF THEIR THINGS AND THIS ONE'S FOR PLASTICS LIKE THIS, LIKE THIS, LIKE THIS.

AND THEN THEY SHOULD BE UPSET.

YEAH.

WE HAVE, THERE ARE SOME CAMPUSES WHERE THEY'RE VERY CLOSELY MONITORED BY A CUSTODIAN AT THE END OF LUNCH.

UM, I KNOW MY SON'S SCHOOL IS IN NORTH GARLAND.

I'M STILL NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO GO IN AND HAVE LUNCH WITH HIM YET.

THEY STILL HAVE IT.

WELL, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD HAVE A PRIZE FOR THE MOST, THE LARGEST INCREASE IN HDP OR WHATEVER IT IS YOU'RE PUSHING THIS WEEK.

RIGHT.

AND, UH, HAVE SOME KIND OF PIZZA DAY OR SOME CRAZY THING FOR THE KIDS.

THE SCHOOLS.

YEAH.

MAYBE A LITTLE PLAQUE FROM SANITATION.

THIS IS THE LARGEST INCREASE IN RECYCLING IN THE DISTRICT THIS YEAR.

MAKE IT SOMETHING THEY WORK TOWARDS.

RIGHT.

YEAH.

I'M ALL ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MOTIVATE EM BECAUSE I THINK BECAUSE THEY'LL BE THEIR PARENTS AFTERWARDS AND THEY GET INTO THAT HABIT AND IT BECOMES SECOND NATURE.

EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE THAT PRIZE HANGING OVER THEIR HEAD, THEY'RE STILL, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE LIKE, OH, WELL THIS GOES HERE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE.

WELL, YOU COULD WAIT AGAIN NEXT YEAR TOO.

MM-HMM.

, ONE OF THE MEETINGS WE HAVE, UH, DISCUSSED ABOUT A NEW, UH, YOU KNOW, RECYCLING BIN, YOU KNOW MM-HMM.

SO THAT WHAT IS THE STATUS OF IT? THE OH, THE UH, THE ECO CART.

OH YEAH.

SO I THINK WHAT WE DETERMINED ON THAT PARTICULAR ONE IS THAT IT IS NOT MEETING THE STANDARDS THAT WE LIKE.

BUT I ALSO BELIEVE, I THINK I SAW IT OUT THERE.

I'M LOOKING AT YOUR, I HOPING HE, HE MIGHT KNOW IT MIGHT BE AN OZ QUESTION, BUT I DID SEE ANOTHER BRAND OUT THERE, UM, IN THE AREA WITH ALL THE OTHER CONTAINERS.

SO I, I NEED TO CHECK IN WITH HIM AND FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THAT ONE.

AND I THINK THAT ONE IS ONE WE TALKED ABOUT THAT IS MADE WITH MORE CURBSIDE PLASTIC.

IT MIGHT EVEN BE A HUNDRED PERCENT.

I'M NOT, DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT, BUT I THINK IT MIGHT BE.

SO I CAN CHECK ON HIM WITH THAT.

YEAH.

WE DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

THAT'S WHY I WAS ASKING.

YES, YES.

THAT ECO CART WAS, IT WAS, YOU KNOW, IT'S STILL OUT THERE.

WE'RE STILL USING IT, BUT WE ARE NOT THINKING THAT IT'S GONNA HOLD UP TO WHAT WE NEED IT TO.

YEAH.

IT SOUNDED VERY, MOST OF THEM DO.

YEAH.

GREAT.

DO WELL IN THE SUN.

MM-HMM.

, THEY'RE GOOD FOR LIKE SIX MONTHS OR SO, BUT THE, YOU CAN'T GET YOUR MONEY BACK OUT OF 'EM IN SIX MONTHS THAT'S NEEDED.

A LONGER LASTING TWO YEARS LEAST MINIMUM I WOULD SAY.

MM-HMM.

, I DON'T KNOW.

WHAT IS THE LIFE OF ONE OF YOUR CANS? THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION.

I THINK IT ALSO, THIS IS SOMETHING WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME, THEY'RE LIKE, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I KEEP HAVING TO REPLACE MY CONTAINER.

AND I'M LIKE, YOU KNOW, IT CAN DEPEND ON, I THINK WHERE IT'S SITTING OUTSIDE.

IS IT IN YOUR GARAGE? IS IT OUTSIDE IN THE SUN? IS IT UNDERNEATH A TREE THAT'S DIFFERENT SAP ON IT ALL THE TIME? YOU KNOW, IS IT IN AN AREA WHERE LIKE YOU'RE SITTING IT ON A CURB IN THE GRASS SO THAT WAY WHEN IT'S GETTING PLACED BACK DOWN, IT'S IN A SOFT SPOT? OR IS IT HIT THE CONCRETE EVERY TIME WHEN THE TRUCK PUTS IT BACK DOWN ON THE GROUND.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF FACTOR IN THE CONCRETE AND THEY'RE JUST FUN.

BROKE ONE ONE

[00:30:01]

TIME BECAUSE SOMEBODY IN MY HOUSE, I CAN'T MENTION ANY NAMES CUZ THEY, THEY'RE NOT HERE.

THEY MONITOR THIS? NO.

OH.

FILLED IT WITH TILE, BROKEN TILE.

OH.

LIKE, LIKE TWO OR THREE FIVE GALLON PALES OF TILE THAT WERE SITTING OUT FOR ME TO HAUL OFF.

AND I LOOK, WHERE'S THE TILE? OH, WE PUT IT IN A CANE AND WHEN THAT CAN HIT THE GROUND, IT WAS NOT IN GOOD SHAPE.

SO I'M SURE, I'M SURE.

I THINK WE'VE, I'VE BEEN IN MY HOUSE FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND I'VE ONLY HAD TO CALL AND HAVE MINE REPLACED ONCE.

AND, UM, THE OTHERS ARE STILL, THEY'RE STILL HANGING IN THERE.

SO, AND THAT WAY YEAH.

THEY TAKE A GOOD BEATING UNLESS YOU PUT HEAVY STUFF IN THEM.

ABSOLUTELY.

THEN YOU SHOULD BLAME YOUR NEIGHBOR OR YOUR SPOUSE.

YES.

IN THIS CASE IT WAS MY STEPSON, I BELIEVE, BUT, OKAY.

WHAT ELSE? WE'RE GOOD.

ALL RIGHT.

WELL THANK YOU GUYS FOR HAVING ME.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

WHAT YOU GOT BETTY? UH, NOT A LOT.

THIS IS OUR EASY TIME.

YOU KNOW, WE'RE NOT REAL BUSY, BUT WE WERE CONTACTED TO BUY, UH, GRADY MCOWEN MCOWEN IS THAT HIS NAME WITH THE, UH, RETREAT PROGRAM THAT THEY HAD LAST YEAR.

AND SOME COMPANY WANTED TO DONATE TREES LAST YEAR.

WELL, THEY DIDN'T GET THEIR TREES DONATED, SO THEY CONTACTED, UM, MATT AND THE OFFICE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY AND WANTED TO KNOW IF IT, IF THEY COULD DO IT THIS YEAR.

SO THEY'RE DOING A KIND OF A FOLLOW UP, UH, IN WILLIAMS, UM, NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEN AN ADJOINING NEIGHBORHOOD ABOUT, THEY HAVE 150 TREES THEY WANT TO DONATE AND UH, THEY'RE WORKING RIGHT NOW GETTING PEOPLE REGISTERED.

AND I THINK THAT'S GONNA BE NOVEMBER, UH, DECEMBER THE NINTH.

UH, IT'S NOT GONNA BE A BIG EVENT LIKE THE RETREAT, IT'S JUST THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE SIGN UP AND GIVE THEM A TREE.

AND, UM, THEY'RE, THESE ARE I THINK 15 GALLONS, SO THEY'RE NICE SIZED TREES.

UM, SO WE'RE GONNA BE HELPING DOING THAT.

I'M NOT PLANT A TREE IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING.

WELL, I'M DOING IS SIGNING PEOPLE UP.

UM, BUT WE'VE GOT THAT COMING UP.

AND THEN I WAS CONTACTED BY A NEIGHBORHOOD WHO WANTS TO HAVE A CLEANUP EVENT.

SO AS SOON AS WE GET SOME DETAILS ON THAT, WE'LL BE DOING THAT ONE.

BUT RIGHT NOW THINGS ARE JUST KIND OF QUIET, WHICH IS NICE.

.

YES, I LIKE THAT.

YEAH, THAT QUIET STARTS IN JANUARY, SO YEAH.

YOU'VE GOT ANYBODY FOR NO, WE DO NOT.

BUT UH, SINCE OUR LAST MEETING, YOU KNOW, WE HAD, UM, THE RECOGNITION OF DAVID PARRISH AND SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMITTEE WERE THERE TO, UH, SEE THAT DONE.

AND THIS IS DONE THROUGH THIS GROUP, UH, THIS RECOGNITION.

SO WHEN I'M TALKING ABOUT, I TALK ABOUT KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL, THEN WHEN I GO TO ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT, THAT'S IS, THIS IS EC A'S JOB, NOT KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL.

IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING, BUT WE'LL HAVE ANOTHER ONE IN MARCH.

SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OF YOU HAVE A PERSON, A GROUP, A BUSINESS THAT YOU THINK HAS DONE OUTSTANDING WORK, AN ENVIRONMENTAL OR NEIGHBORHOOD, UH, INVOLVEMENT WILL LET ME KNOW WHEN I USUALLY CHECK 'EM OUT, INTERVIEW 'EM, AND, UH, ARRANGE FOR THE RECOGNITION.

SO IF YOU HAVE SOMEBODY IN MIND, LET ME KNOW.

ALL RIGHT.

OKAY.

KEN, WHAT DO WE GOT? ALL SORTS OF THINGS.

LAST TIME STEVE OLIVER WAS HERE WITH, WITH STREETS, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT POTHOLES AND STUFF, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A QUICK SHOUT OUT.

AND THE KUDOS I, I HAD CALLED, THERE WAS A POTHOLE RIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND I WAS WORRIED ABOUT IT BEING SAFE FOR HALLOWEEN.

I CALLED 'EM ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON OR SOMETHING.

THEY WERE THERE BY NOON THAT, THAT NEXT DAY.

SO IT DOES WORK PRETTY QUICKLY.

SOMEBODY HAD ASKED HOW LONG IT TAKES TO, TO REPAIR A POTHOLE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

IT WAS, I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE.

DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEY WERE THERE.

IT WAS JUST DONE QUICKLY.

UM, AND ALSO, UH, ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO BRING OUT A COUPLE OF, UH, TRASH BINS FOR OUR HALLOWEEN THING.

THEY WERE THERE ON TIME.

WE USED THEM FOR TRASHCAN KIDS, WHICH WAS A PRETTY, PRETTY NEAT KIND OF DEAL.

A COUPLE OF LITTLE GIRLS POPPED OUT OF THE TRASHCAN AND SCARED DICKENS OUT OF PEOPLE.

THAT WAS AT OUR HALLOWEEN PARTY, MICHELLE.

IT WAS PRETTY STOPPED BY THERE WHEN THE MAYOR WAS THERE.

OUR COUNCILMAN ED MOORE WAS THERE.

WE HAD OVER A HUNDRED KIDS, ABOUT 60 ADULTS.

THE GARLAND FIRE STATION CAME, BROUGHT THE

[00:35:01]

AMBULANCE AND THE FIRETRUCK OUT.

SO IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

UM, NEXT YEAR WE'RE GONNA DO A, WE DO IT EVERY YEAR.

THIS YEAR WAS THE FIRST YEAR WE'D DONE IT AS A COMMUNITY.

AND SO WE HAD BOOTHS AND STUFF SET UP ON THE CORNERS AND STUFF.

UH, PC WAS THERE.

WE, WE HAD QUITE A FEW FOLKS.

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

YOU GUYS WERE INVITED NEXT YEAR.

UM, SO THAT WAS PART OF IT THIS WEEKEND, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH IS WE ALL KNOW WHO'VE BEEN, WE'VE BEEN BEAT OVER THE HEAD.

WHAT IT IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT.

IT'S TAKING PLACE IN PLANO THIS YEAR.

IT'S PLANO GARLAND AND ROULETTE.

IT'S AT THE SAM JOHNSON REC CENTER, UM, TOMORROW NIGHT.

I'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT IT.

ARE YOU GOING? I'M WAFFLING ABOUT IT.

AND IT'S RIGHT BY MY .

IT'S AT BASS PRO.

YEAH.

BUT THE SPCA HAS AN APPRECIATION PARTY TOMORROW NIGHT, SO I'M GOING TO THAT.

UM, BUT THE SUMMIT MIXER, IT'S PROBABLY NOT WHAT SOME OF Y'ALL THINK.

IT'S NOT, IT'S NOT A COCKTAIL PARTY.

UH, BUT IT IS A MIX OR A MIX.

A MIX AND MEET SORT OF THING.

UH, THAT'S AT BASS PRO SHOP TOMORROW NIGHT FROM, IT'S AT TEXAS LAND AND CATTLE TLC, I THINK THEY CALL IT NOW, UH, AT BASS PRO.

AND THAT'S FROM SIX 30 ON AN AWARDS CEREMONY AS, UH, THERE AS WELL.

THEN THIS SATURDAY FROM EIGHT TO 12 AT SAM JOHNSON REC CENTER AND PLANO IS THE 2022 NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT.

SO, UH, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT.

Y'ALL PLAN ON BEING THERE.

ONE OTHER THING THAT, THAT, UH, OF COMMUNITY NOTE WORTHINESS.

OCTOBER 22ND WAS THE GRAND OPENING OF BONEYARD.

IT'S THE BIG SKATE PARK, SECOND LARGEST SKATE PARK IN TEXAS.

IT WAS AT RICK ODEN PARK.

SO THAT APPEARED, APPEARED TO BE A PRETTY BIG DEAL.

A LOT OF FOLKS WERE THERE FOR THAT.

UM, COUPLE OF INTERESTING THINGS ON THE CALENDAR FOR, FOR DOWNTOWN GARLAND THAT THEY'RE NOT DOING A CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY.

APPARENTLY THIS YEAR IT'S GONNA BE TAKING PLACE AT FIRE WHEEL AND THAT'S, UH, DECEMBER 1ST, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE BEFORE OUR NEXT MEETING.

UH, THAT IS THE TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY WILL BE ON THURSDAY AT, ODDLY ENOUGH, IT SAYS SIX 30, MAYBE IT'S GETTING DARK.

FIVE 30, IT'S DARK.

EIGHT 30 IT'S ON THE SCREEN.

YEAH, BUT IT SAYS THE TREE LIGHTING WILL BE AT SIX 30, SO IT'LL BE DARK.

IT'LL BE DARK.

OKAY.

AND THAT'S AT FIRE WHEEL.

I DID FORGET ONE OTHER THING BEFORE THAT THE, THAT SOUNDED KIND OF INTERESTING.

DOWNTOWN GARLAND'S DOING A, UH, SCAVENGER HUNT THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAYS FROM, UH, THEY START, THEY KICK IT OFF NEXT SATURDAY FROM 10 TO 12, AND THEN THEY'RE GONNA DO IT THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAYS NOVEMBER 26TH THROUGH THE DECEMBER 17TH.

UH, STARTING OVER HERE AT THE LANDMARK MUSEUM, I GUESS IT IS, UH, A CITY SCAVENGER HUNT.

SO THOSE HAVE BEEN KIND OF FUN IN THE PAST.

UH, MOVING BACK INTO DECEMBER, DECEMBER 9TH.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE EVER DONE THIS BEFORE, BUT THEY'D HAVE, THEY HAVE A HOLIDAY SIP AND STROLL.

SO A LOT OF THE VENDORS HERE WILL HAVE LIKE, UM, EITHER HOLIDAY BEVERAGES OR WINE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

THOSE ARE A LOT OF FUN TO DO.

IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE THOSE, THAT'S FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9TH.

ONE OTHER THING OF NOTE, THE GARLAND ANIMAL, UH, SERVICE SHELTER CENTER, THE NEW PLACE OVER ON 66 IS NOW OPEN ON SUNDAYS 11 TO SIX.

THAT'S OUR NORMAL HOURS.

THEY'RE ONLY CLOSED NOW ON WEDNESDAYS, WHICH IS THE DAY I TRIED TO BRING MY FOSTER SURRENDER PUPPY IN THERE.

BUT, UM, THOSE PEOPLE ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

THEY REALLY DO A, A GREAT JOB.

UH, I, I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE, THE SERVICES THEY PROVIDED.

I SOMEBODY DROPPED A PIT BULL MIX AT MY HOUSE THE OTHER DAY.

JUST DROPPED HIM OFF AT MY HOUSE AND I CALLED, UH, ART.

YOU GUYS, GUYS HAVE ALL MET ART.

HE GOT HIM ALL FIXED UP WITH HIS SHOTS AND DID CUZ THE DOG HAD NO PAPERS.

THE GUY TOLD ME HE GOT 'EM FROM A BREEDER, WHICH I GUESS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD MEANS GOT HIM FROM SOMEBODY AT A PUPPY MILL.

HAD NO PAPERS, DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA HOW OLD HE WAS, DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT SHOTS HE HAD.

ART GOT'EM ALL FIXED UP.

I AGREED TO FOSTER HIM.

AND THERE'S SOMEBODY THAT CALLED ME AND SAID THEY WANT TO HAVE, THEY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT THIS SATURDAY TO, TO POSSIBLY ADOPT HIM.

SO IT WORKS OUT REALLY WELL.

AND PIT BULLS, AS YOU KNOW, ARE REALLY HARD TO ADOPT OUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE SUCH A BAD REPUTATION.

BUT THIS GUY'S JUST SWEET AS ALL HE CAN BE.

UH, JUST A RIP.

BUT I HAVE TWO BIG OTHER DOGS AND THEY FIGHT OVER HIM.

SO IF ANYBODY WANTS TO ADOPT A A PET, NOW'S A GOOD TIME THAT 80% OF THEIR, UH, INTAKES THERE ARE PIT BULL MIXES.

AND SO IT'S, IT'S MOST OF POSITION DON'T ALLOW PIT BULL IN THE, UH, THERE IS A PIT BULL ORDINANCE IN THE CITY OF GARLAND, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T OWN ONE.

IT MEANS IF THEY SEE 'EM RUNNING LOOSE, THEY, THEY GRAB 'EM AND THEY MAY BE FORCED TO PUT THEM DOWN DEPENDING ON SEVERAL FACTORS.

BUT THERE IS A NO, IT JUST REQUIRES A HIGHER FENCE.

BUT THEY DON'T PUT 'EM DOWN.

YEAH.

NO.

THAT, THAT CHANGED.

NOT AT, NOT AT THE NEW CENTER PERHAPS YEARS AGO.

YEAH, I KNOW THEY USED TO, CAUSE I, I DROPPED ONE THERE AND THEY SAID, OH, YOU HAD, I'M LIKE, REALLY? , THEY HAD TO MAKE, IT WAS LIKE A PRISON.

THEY HAD TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW INTAKES.

BUT I KNOW SOME OF THE

[00:40:01]

ASSOCIATION AFTER SOME INCIDENT HAPPENED, THEY DON'T ALLOW, THEY HAVE POLICY THAT PIT BULLS, THEY DON'T ALLOW.

THAT MAY BE AN HOA THING.

YEAH, HOA AND SOME APARTMENT COMPLEX HOA.

YEAH.

BUT YOU KNOW, IT'S ODDLY ENOUGH, THAT'S JUST A REPUTATION THING BECAUSE, UH, UH, UAL KNOWS HE'S WORKED WITH MANY ANIMALS IN THE PAST AND, AND PIT BULLS CAN BE SWEET AS ALL.

THEY CAN BE SUPER SWEET TO KIDS.

UH, AND THE THIS LITTLE PIT BULL I'VE GOT, IT'S, IT'S, HE IS SO MEEK AND TIMID, BUT HE'S A PUPPY AND HE'S ROWDY.

AND, UM, BUT THAT THERE IS, WHAT IS, THESE ARE USED TO SAY THERE IS NO BAD DOG'S, BAD PET OWNERS.

NO BAD PETS.

JUST BAD PET OWNERS.

YEAH.

AND THAT'S TRUE.

UH, I HAVE A CHOW AND WAS, I BROUGHT HER TO THE GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW CENTER.

THEY THOUGHT, HOW, HOW WELL BEHAVED IS THAT? AND I'M LIKE, HUH, Y'ALL ARE GONNA PUT HER DOWN.

DOG.

SHE IS VERY SWEET.

YOU MET HER.

YEAH.

GOING TO TOUR THAT PLACE, RIGHT? YEAH.

GO BY THE GARLAND ANIMAL SHELTER.

IT'S A, IT'S A GREAT PLACE.

YEAH.

U CAN ARRANGE A TOUR .

YEAH.

IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THE BOARD WANTS TO DO, I CAN, UM, WE'LL PROBABLY HAVE TO MEET A LITTLE BIT EARLIER SO WE CAN GO THERE AND WORK HOURS OR MAYBE TOWARDS THE END AND UH, I CAN SET IT UP.

OKAY.

IT'S A REALLY, REALLY FABULOUS PLACE.

KIND OF MODELED ON THE SPCA, WHICH IS THE TAJ MAHAL OF ANIMAL SHELTERS.

JUST GOTTA SAY, JUST GOTTA THROW THAT IN THERE.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

OH.

OTHER THAN, UH, HAPPY RELATED HALLOWEEN.

IT WAS A, IT WAS A GREAT TIME.

THANK YOU FOR, FOR MAKING IT.

AND THANK YOU FOR, UH, ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE FOR BRINGING THE TRASHCANS.

THAT WAS VERY COOL.

BUT THE TRASHCAN KIDS WENT OVER REALLY WELL.

IF YOU GUYS EVER THOUGHT ABOUT DOING THAT, HAVING KIDS POP OUT OF A TRASH CAN, THOSE KIDS WERE CREEPY.

THEY WERE VERY, THAT ONE LOOKED JUST LIKE A LITTLE DOLL, DIDN'T SHE? OH MY GOD.

OH GOD.

SCARED, NIGHTMARES, FREAKED OUT BY I KNOW, RIGHT.

, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

THANK YOU.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS? YEAH, I HAVE, UM, YOU KNOW, MY CORPORATE OFFICE IS MOVING TO GARLAND.

SO NEXT WEEK, UM, FRIDAY I'M MOVING AND 22ND WILL BE RIBBON CUTTING.

ALL RIGHT.

YOU EXCITED? YEP.

YEP.

THE GARLAND PHARMACY.

MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

ALL THAT BUILDING.

YEAH.

ALL RIGHT.

CONGRATULATIONS.

MAKE SURE YOU CALL US TO PICK UP YOUR TRASH AND .

ARE YOU HAVING A GRAND OPENING PARTY? EH, HAVING A GRAND OPENING PARTY ON 22ND, 10 O'CLOCK, 22ND.

WHERE, WHERE IS THAT? UM, 3 6 71 BROADWAY BLUE IN THE GALL PHARMACY.

YEAH.

YEAH.

IS IT JUST CALLED GARLAND PHARMACY? SEND THE EMAIL, RIGHT? YEAH.

SEND THE EMAIL.

SEND THE EMAIL TO THE SCHOOL.

IT'S RIGHT BY MY HOUSE.

I HEAR ONE ANNOUNCEMENT, YOU KNOW, FOUR YEARS BACK WE TOOK ONE, UH, SHORT FILM ABOUT ENVIRONMENT.

I EMAILED THE LINK TO ALL OF YOU.

CITY OF OUR GAR MAYOR.

UM, SHE WAS THERE, ATTENDED, YOU KNOW, FILM SHOOTING TIME AND UH, COUPLE OF COUNCIL PEOPLE FROM RO AND WE GOT INTERNATIONAL FILM FISHER AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENT IN BOMBAY.

UH, WHAT IS GOING TO GIVE ON 20TH? NO 20TH.

SO THEY SEND ME THE DIGITAL CERTIFICATE.

NOW IF I, UH, IF I GO THERE I CAN UH, GET THE PLAQUE, BUT I ASK THE SCRIPT WRITER TO GO AND GET IT.

YEAH.

CONGRATULATIONS.

I SEND THE LINK.

YOU CAN WATCH IT.

TAKE A LOOK AT IT.

YEAH.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS? YEAH, YOU HAVE WHAT YOU REQUESTED WITH BILLING INSPECTIONS.

SO BASICALLY I REACHED OUT TO THE DIRECTOR AND SHE'S GONNA GO OVER BASICALLY THE RULES FOR ZONING.

SO IF YOU'RE, SOME OF YOU ASKED ABOUT, UH, BETTY, YOU ASKED ABOUT A FEW THINGS.

EXACTLY.

YEAH.

SO SHE'S GONNA TALK ABOUT ZONING AND THEN SHE'S GONNA TALK ABOUT, UH, REQUIREMENTS.

SO FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU'RE MODIFYING YOUR, YOUR HOUSE, IF YOU'RE ADDING A FENCE OR, OR OR REMOVING A CHAIN LINK FENCE AND PUTTING A PICKET FENCE.

DO, DO YOU NEED A PERMIT? IF YOU'RE CONVERTING YOUR GARAGE INTO A ROOM, WHAT ARE THE STEPS? SO SHE'S GONNA BE ABLE TO TALK ABOUT ALL OF THOSE THINGS.

WHO'S THAT THAT'S COMING? BUILDING INSPECTIONS.

YOU KNOW WHO BRITA THE UH, DIRECTOR I ASKED ABOUT, NO MATTER WHAT REPLACING THE FENCE YOU NEED PER THEM.

RIGHT.

NOT ONLY FOR EXTENSION, I DON'T KNOW.

I DUNNO IF THE SAME COLOR, EVERYTHING.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO, BUT THAT'S, THAT'S WHY SHE'S COMING.

SO SHE CAN ANSWER OR ANY QUESTIONS TO EIGHT FEET.

ANY ANY QUESTION YOU HAD TO GET.

THAT'S ALL I THINK.

RIGHT.

AND YOU, I ALWAYS CHECK WITH BUILDING INSPECTION JUST TO BE SURE I HAVE A CONTACT THERE.

AND SO THAT'S WHY I WAS ASKING WHO I JUST FOLLOW EVERYTHING.

HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION.

YEAH.

YEAH.

APPROVAL AND THE SAFETY APPROVAL.

WE HAD TO DO BOTH.

YEAH.

THAT'S ALWAYS WORTH A CALL TO CALL BUILDING INSPECTION OR PERMITTING JUST TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE.

[00:45:01]

BECAUSE THE WORST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN IS YOU START BUILDING SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T MEET CODE.

YOU GOTTA TEAR THAT STUFF DOWN AND DO IT OVER AGAIN TO SPECS AND, AND PRESENT A A PLOT.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR YOUR PLOT.

YOUR PLOT OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT.

AND AND GOTTA SHOW 'EM WHERE THE CONTRACTOR CAN GET IN TROUBLE TOO.

CONTRACTOR CAN GET BIG TROUBLE.

BIG BANNED FROM DOING BUSINESS.

YEAH.

AND FIND HEAVILY.

SO YEAH, ALWAYS GET, ALWAYS CALL PERMITTING.

ASK FIRST.

IT'S BETTER TO ASK PERMISSION.

WE HAD TO GET PERMITTING TO DO OUR BLOCK PARTY CUZ WE HAD TO BLOCK OFF THE STREET WE HAD BROKEN DOOR.

YEAH.

YEAH.

THAT'S ALL.

OKAY.

BUT IT IS THE SAME THING.

QUESTION FOR ANYTHING YOU ARE MAKING GET EARLY.

WE DIDN'T READ ABOUT IT WAS A BATTERY.

IT'S ALWAYS, IT WAS A BATTERY.

AND UM, IT'S UM, I'M GONNA BE MEETING WITH MICHELLE SO WE CAN UM, START TALKING A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

WE'RE SEEING MORE AND MORE IN THE RECYCLING CENTER.

OUR GUYS ARE JUST REALLY GOOD AND THEY CATCH 'EM BEFORE, UH, BEFORE THEY TURN INTO A FIRE OR RIGHT AFTER THEY, THE FLAMES COME ON.

SO WE'RE SENDING BATTERIES, BATTERIES, RECYCLE CENTER CELL PHONES.

YEAH.

JUST THROW 'EM IN THE TRASH.

YEAH.

AND IT'S, SO THEY THROW 'EM IN THE RECYCLE BIN OR IN THE TRASH? BOTH.

BOTH.

WHICH IS, WHICH IS MORE BOTH? UM, IT'S A COMBINATION.

IT'S A COMBINATION.

UM, I MEAN IT'S JUST, YOU KNOW, WE PICK UP THOUSANDS OF, OF POUNDS ON A DAILY BASIS.

SO IT'S JUST, IT'S HARD TO TELL COMPACT.

IT BECOMES A REAL SERIOUS PROBLEM CUZ YOU BREAK UP ON THOSE LITHIUM ION BATTERIES AND THEY POP AND THEY CATCH FIRE IMMEDIATELY.

YEAH.

SO WE HAVE TO, WE STORE 'EM OUTSIDE.

BUT MOST OF THE SCRAPYARD FIRES IN THE PAST TWO OR THREE YEARS.

THAT'S WHAT IT IS.

A BATTERY KICKS IT OFF, THEY BURN LIKE PHOSPHORUS.

IF I HAVE A, I HAVE A BIG JUG OF OLD BATTERIES.

ALKALINE.

YEAH.

YEAH.

THEY'RE NOT NO PROBLEM.

THEY'RE IN OUR OKAY.

BUT THE ION BATTERIES ARE, BUT THE CELL PHONE BATTERIES, LAPTOP BATTERIES, ALL OF THOSE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES ARE EITHER LITHIUM COMBUST.

YES.

YES.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN PEOPLES YEAH, YEAH.

PUT 'EM IN PEOPLE'S POCKETS.

BUT THAT'S WHEN THEY GET HOT.

NO, I, MY SISTER-IN-LAW'S PHONE BURST INTO FLAMES IN MY BACKYARD AND UH, I STARTED TO MUSCLE LAUGHING RIGHT HERE, BUT, UH, BECAUSE, BECAUSE SHE AH, AND THREW IT.

OKAY THAT WAS GOOD.

BUT WHEN SHE AWED THE BENCH, SHE WAS SITTING ON BROKE AND UH, THEN, THEN MY NEPHEW STOMPED ON IT FOR A GOOD LONG TIME.

IT DID NOT GO OUT.

I SAID NO, YOU HAVE TO COVER IT.

YOU HAVE TO SMOTHER IT.

PHOSPHORUS LADEN OR SOMETHING.

YEAH, IT'S LIKE PHOSPHORUS.

IT BURNS LIKE PHOSPHORUS FOREVER.

YEAH, IT'S HOT AND FAST.

AND IN EURO'S CASE THEY COULD BE LIKE A SERIOUS DISASTER.

WAS THAT AT THE RECITAL CENTER? NO, THE LAST ONE WAS IN THE TRANSFER STATION.

IT WAS TRASH.

WOW.

BUT SAY BATTERIES NEED TO BE TAKEN TO THAT, THAT TO THE CHEMICAL COLLECTION CENTER.

OR THEY CAN BRING 'EM TO THE TRANSFER STATION AND DEPOT.

I'LL TAKE BATTERIES.

OKAY, COOL.

YEAH, THEY HAVE BINS BY THE DOORS.

THAT'S A GOOD EDUCATION.

HOME DEPOT.

IT'S EXACTLY THE LOWS.

A LOT OF THE STORES ALREADY HAVE THOSE FOR YOU TO GO AND RECYCLE THEM.

I COLLECT THEM AND TAKE 'EM WITH MY PAINT AND THINNERS AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF TO THE YEAH, THERE YOU GO.

DO TOO.

YEAH.

OKAY, COOL.

SO THE REASON I TAUGHT, I ASKED THE IS WHEN WE RECENTLY BOUGHT SOME BUILDINGS IN DARLING TO MOVE OUR BUSINESS BACK IN AND WE OFFERED ON A BUILDING AND WE RAN AN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY, WHICH YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET A LOAN.

BUT WE RAN IT BEFORE WE, OUR DUE DILIGENCE PERIOD WAS OVER AND THE BUILDING DID NOT PASS BECAUSE IT USED TO BE AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESSES THERE.

SO THEN YOU GO TO A PHASE TWO ENVIRONMENTAL, WHICH IS STARTS AT $10,000 JUST FOR THE STUDY AND THEN A REMEDIATION JOB AFTERWARDS TO BRING IT TO CODE.

SO YOU COULD BE $50,000 INTO RECOVERING THIS PLACE BEFORE YOU OWN IT.

EVEN TECHNICALLY BECAUSE OF THE OIL AND STUFF.

OIL BODY SHOPS HAVE ALL OF THE, THE FILINGS OR THE, THE, UM, RESIDUE FROM PAINT OR IN THIS CASE THEY HAD FLOOR DRAINS THAT DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE, BUT THEY WERE FULL OF THAT STUFF.

FULL OF IT.

AND SO THEN WE LOOKED AT A SECOND BUILDING, PUT AN OFFER ON IT.

IT HAD AN AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESS NEXT DOOR AND SOME OF THE OILS AND FLUIDS HAD SEEPED INTO THIS PROPERTY.

SO THAT WAS ALSO, SO TWO OUTTA THREE.

AND SO I ASKED OZ, UM, WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESSES IN THESE OLD BUILDINGS IN GARLAND? IT'S BECAUSE THE ZONING DOESN'T REQUIRE 'EM TO MEET THE SAME STANDARDS THAT THEY DO FOR THE NEW ONES.

SO IF IT'S AN OLD BUILDING, YOU PRETTY MUCH DO ANYTHING YOU WANT WITH IT.

THEY'RE GRANDFATHERED IN.

YES.

AND SO YOU, THAT'S WHEN YOU GO BY THOSE PLACES THAT THEY'RE PARKED ON EVERY SQUARE INCH OF IT.

IT'S BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO MEET THE NEW ZONING STANDARDS.

AND I THINK IT'S A BIG FLAW IN THE SYSTEM AND I THOUGHT WE SHOULD JUST TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE THOSE PROPERTIES ARE TRASH FOR LIFE UNTIL
