MY AGENDA WE'RE

[00:00:01]

GOOD? NO, WE STARTED.

[Library Board on March 13, 2023.]

OKAY.

I CALLED THIS MEETING TO ORDER.

AND THE, UM, LET'S SEE.

DO WE HAVE ANY, WE DON'T HAVE ANY CITIZENS SHOULD CITIZEN, STAFF COUNCILWOMAN, WOMAN LIKE COUNCIL.

HI.

I HAVE INTRODUCED MYSELF TO YOU TWICE NOW AND FAILED TO RECOGNIZE YOU.

I APOLOGIZE.

UM, OKAY.

SO THE FIRST ITEM IS THE APPROVAL OF MINUTES TO CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY 23RD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES.

MADAME CHAIR, I MOVE FOR APPROVAL OF THE, UH, JANUARY MEETING MINUTES.

I HAVE, I JUST HAVE SOME CORRECTIONS ON E THERE ARE A LOT OF PUNCTUATION THINGS.

I'LL JUST GIVE MY COPY, MADAM SECRETARY.

OKAY.

DO YOU WANT ME TO FILL, SO IF THERE'S NO OBJECTION, I'LL MAKE, I'D LOVE TO SAY, I'D LOVE TO ADDRESS THE BOARD IF, IF IT, YOU WANNA GO BACK TO THE OH, OKAY.

UM, LET'S, LET'S GET THROUGH OUR, LET'S GET THROUGH OUR VOTE AND, UH, AND THEN WE, WE WILL DO THAT.

OKAY.

UM, OKAY.

SO IF THERE'S NO OBJECTION, I'M GOING TO, BUT AS CORRECTED BY MICHAEL, IT'S A COUPLE, SOME SEMIAL INCIDENT, GETTING RID OF AN AN OR TWO.

OKAY.

SO IF THERE'S NO OBJECTION, UM, THE MOTION IS TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS CORRECTED.

WE DON'T HAVE A SECOND YET.

WE HAVE A SECOND.

I'M SECONDED.

THANK YOU.

AND NOW THERE WE CAN HAVE A VOTE.

ALL IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

THANK YOU.

ANY OPPOSED? THANK YOU.

OKAY.

AND NOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME AND TALK TO US? SURE.

GET EVERYBODY SETTLED IN.

MY NAME IS MARGARET LUCK.

I'M THE DISTRICT FIVE COUNCILWOMAN FOR THE CITY OF GARLAND.

UM, KRISTEN LUCIDO IS MY APPOINTEE TO THIS BOARD.

AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED VIGILANCE IN, UH, PROMOTING THE LIBRARIES AND, AND VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME TO, UH, MAKE SURE THAT GOOD THINGS HAPPEN HERE.

AND I THINK THAT'S ALL THAT WE HOPE FOR.

ONE OF MY INITIATIVES IS MAKING SURE THAT BOND PROGRAM PROJECTS ARE COMPLETED.

SO I'M GLAD THAT WE'RE GOING OVER THAT TONIGHT AND I GET TO SEE THE UPDATES AND, UM, I'M JUST REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HOW EVERYBODY DOES.

AND GOOD LUCK TONIGHT.

AND AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME? GOOD.

HAVE A NICE EVENING, , PLEASE.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR SERVICE TO COUNSEL.

I INTRODUCED MYSELF TO YOU IN THE PARKING LOT WALKING FROM THIS BUILDING OVER TO THERE, BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EVENT.

SO, UM, I THINK WE MET DURING THE BOND PROGRAM ALSO.

THAT COULD BE.

SO IT'LL HAPPEN AGAIN.

I'LL INTRODUCE MYSELF TO YOU.

IT'LL .

OKAY.

UM, SO WE ARE READY TO LOOK AT THE ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION, AND THE FIRST ONE IS THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND BOND PROGRAM UPDATES.

KAREN, GOOD EVENING.

THAT WAS A GREAT SETUP BY THE WAY.

LAUNCH RIGHT INTO OUR, OUR BOND PROGRAM.

SO TONIGHT WE'RE GONNA HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS OF, UM, A FEW OF OUR DIFFERENT, UM, CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.

ONE, I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS FOR THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.

UM, THE PROJECT DID GO OUT FOR BID.

UH, THE BIDS CAME IN AT THE END OF LAST WEEK.

THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT MANAGEMENT MANAGER AND THE, UM, PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE ARE GOING THROUGH.

THEY HAD 90 PLUS, UM, BIDS TO GO THROUGH AND OPEN TO GO THROUGH THE, TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS.

SO THEY ARE REVIEWING THE BIDS NOW, AND WE WILL PROBABLY MEET, UM, AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK TO REVIEW THAT, UH, TO SEE WHERE THE NUMBERS CAME IN.

I WILL TELL YOU, EVERYONE CROSSED FINGERS, THEY, THEY WERE THE WORD THAT THEY USED, THAT THEY, THEY WERE HAPPY, UH, BUT THEY HAD NOT YET OPENED ALL OF THE BIDS.

SO, INITIAL NUMBERS OR THEY WERE NOT SURPRISED AS OF YET, WHICH IS I THINK A GOOD THING.

UM, IF EVERYTHING GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN, THAT THEY'LL BE TAKING THAT PACKAGE TO COUNCIL FOR APPROVAL IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR, UM, WITH THE CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATED TO BEGIN IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR.

SO THE PROJECT THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON FOR A LONG TIME

[00:05:02]

IS HAPPENING.

AND, AND I THINK, UH, THIS KIND OF SPILLS OVER INTO THE NEXT SLIDE, BUT WHERE ARE WE GONNA SET UP OUR TEMPORARY LIBRARY FACILITIES? I WANNA GO THROUGH THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE TONIGHT AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.

SO IF YOU LOOK ON THE SLIDE, UH, WITH THE MAP, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT USING THE WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES BUILDING, BUT I WANTED, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MAY NOT KNOW, TO GIVE YOU KIND OF A BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF HOW CLOSE WE'RE STILL GONNA BE, UH, TO THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.

SO THIS IS THE, THE BLOCK HERE.

AND THIS IS WHERE THE CENTRAL LIBRARY CURRENTLY, BESIDES WE'VE GOT THE BIG PARKING LOT, THE WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES BUILDING IS DOWN ON THAT.

WHAT IS THAT SOUTHWEST CORNER, UM, OF THE PROPERTY.

THIS IS WHERE OUR TEMPORARY LIBRARY FACILITY IS SETTING UP.

SO JUST TO REITERATE, AGAIN, WE'RE GOING FROM A 59,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING TO A 4,200 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING.

SO WE'RE REALLY ONLY TAKING THE CREME DE CREME THINGS THAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO OFFER THERE.

UM, THIS BUILDING, WE'VE NAMED IT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPRESS WITH THE, THE INTENT THAT YOU'RE, YOU'RE COMING, YOU'RE PICKING UP SOMETHING, YOU'RE USING A COMPUTER, YOU'RE COMING FOR A PROGRAM.

WE DON'T REALLY HAVE THE FACILITY TO BE ABLE TO HOST YOU FOR A LONG TIME FOR STUDYING RESEARCH, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

FOR THOSE TYPES OF ACTIONS, YOU'LL BE GOING TO ONE OF OUR BRANCH, UH, FACILITIES WITH EITHER NORTH WALNUT OR SOUTH TO BE ABLE TO, UM, HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO DO THE LONG TERM STUDYING, USE A STUDY ROOM, USE A COMMUNITY ROOM, UM, AND DO A LOT OF RESEARCH.

BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME KEY, UM, FUNCTIONS THAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS SPACE FOR AND SERVICE OUT OF.

SO THE TENTATIVE GRAND OPENING DATE IS MAY 1ST, AND THEY'RE MAYBE A LITTLE, UM, A DAY OR TWO BEFORE A DAY OR TWO AFTER.

WE'LL KIND OF NAIL THAT GRAND OPENING DAY DOWN AS WE GET A LITTLE BIT FURTHER IN OPENING OR, UH, THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS.

UM, JUST TO REVIEW, WE DO, UM, HAVE A FEW THINGS THAT WE WANNA ACCOMPLISH IN THIS BUILDING.

ONE, BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN-PERSON CUSTOMER SERVICE TO OUR PATRONS WHO USE AND RELY ON THIS PARTICULAR LOCATION.

UM, HAVE ACCESS TO LAPTOPS AND WIFI ACCESS, UH, PRINTING, UH, COPYING WILL HAVE THE, THE SCANNER THERE AS WELL.

HAVE A VERY SMALL COLLECTION OF SUPER POPULAR MATERIALS.

SO THESE ARE LIKE THE BEST SELLERS THAT ARE COMING IN THAT HAVE, UM, A RESERVE OR A WEIGHT ON THEM.

UM, SOME CHILDREN'S MATERIALS THAT KIDS NEED ACCESS TO.

THERE'S GONNA BE A HANDFUL OF SPANISH LANGUAGE MATERIALS, CUZ THOSE ARE, UM, POPULAR AT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.

AND THEN THIS ALSO SERVES AS A, UH, PLACE FOR PATRONS TO BE ABLE TO PICK UP THEIR RESERVED ITEMS. SO IF YOU STILL WANNA USE THE CENTRAL LIBRARY TO PICK UP YOUR ITEMS, YOU CAN DO THAT AT THIS LOCATION.

THE EXPRESS LIBRARY, NOT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.

I'VE GOTTA GOTTA CHANGE THAT .

AND THEN WE ARE, BECAUSE AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE, THE, THE STAFF AT CENTRAL, ALL OF OUR LIBRARIES, BUT, UH, SINCE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CENTRAL, THEY'VE WORKED REALLY HARD OVER THE LAST YEAR, 18 MONTHS TO CULTIVATE, UM, PROGRAMS THAT SPEAK TO THE COMMUNITY.

AND WE'RE SEEING SOME RETURN ON THAT INVESTMENT IN TIME AND RESOURCES AND, AND STAFFING.

SO WE'VE GOT PROGRAMS THAT RANGE ANYWHERE FROM HAVING 20 SOMETHING BABIES UP TO, I THINK WE'VE HAD 50 SOMETHING OR 60 SOMETHING TODDLERS AT A PROGRAM BEFORE, WHICH IS A LOT OF LITTLE FEET AND A LOT OF EXCITEMENT IN ONE SPACE.

AND I, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

SO WE WANNA BE ABLE TO CONTINUE THAT MOMENTUM.

UM, AND THIS PARTICULAR FACILITY, SO WE DO HAVE A SQUARE OPEN THAT WILL BE, UH, USED FOR PROGRAMS, BUT IT'S NOT JUST FOR KIDS, IT'S FOR ALL AGES TOO.

WE WANNA CONTINUE TO, TO HOST THE ESL CONVERSATIONS CLASS THERE, UM, AND HAVE SOME DIFFERENT, I THINK THE BOOK CLUB IS GONNA CONTINUE TO MEET THERE AS WELL AS, UM, SOME SENIOR PROGRAMS. UM, AS WELL.

UH, WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AND WORKING WITH THE CULTURAL ARTS DEPARTMENT ON LOCATING SOME DIFFERENT PLACES DOWNTOWN TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT BIGGER.

UM, MAYBE IN THE FALL AND WINTER OF 20 23, 20 24, 2.

SUMMERTIME IS THEIR BUSIEST TIME.

IT'S OUR BUSY TIME, SO WE'RE TRYING TO WORK FOR IT.

WE BOTH, IT'S A WIN-WIN FOR BOTH DEPARTMENTS.

UM, THE OTHER THING WE'D LIKE TO DO IS WE WANNA HOST AN OPEN HOUSE FOR A LIBRARY BOARD, UH, COUNCIL CITY ADMINISTRATION AS WE GET CLOSER TO BEING ABLE TO, TO HAVE ALL THE IS DOTTED, THE TS CROSSED WITH MOVING INTO THAT FACILITY.

PROBABLY LOOKING FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 24TH,

[00:10:01]

APRIL 25TH, AND THERE TO HOST AN OPEN HOUSE AND ALLOW EVERYONE HERE, UH, TO BE ABLE TO COME AND SEE THE, THE FACILITY, TOUR THE FACILITY.

IT WON'T TAKE LONG TO TOUR CUZ REMEMBER , IT, IT'S SMALL BUT IT'S COZY AND QUAINT.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT YOU USE IN REAL ESTATE TERMS. IT'S, IT'S A COZY SPACE.

WE, UM, ARE VERY FORTUNATE.

OUR FACILITIES MANAGEMENT GROUP, THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE AND IT HAVE ALL BEEN WORKING TO GET THE FACILITY READY, UH, BY, YOU KNOW, CLEANING, REARRANGING SOME THINGS.

WE'VE BEEN RUNNING NETWORK CABLES EVERYWHERE.

IT'S GOT A FRESH COAT OF PAINT THEY'RE GOING TO, TO DO A DEEP CLEAN OF IT ON IT AS WELL.

BUT JUST KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A TEMPORARY FACILITY AND WE'RE TREATING IT AS A TEMPORARY FACILITY.

SO IT, UH, WE'RE TRYING TO KEEP THINGS AS LOW COST, UM, AS POSSIBLE FOR THIS, FOR OUR CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPRESS BUILDING.

YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPRESS? I'M HAPPY TO, TO TRY TO ANSWER.

SO ARE YOU LOOKING AT A CERTAIN TIME ON THE 24TH? UH, PROBABLY IN THE AFTERNOON.

MM-HMM.

, I THINK THAT'S BEST FOR, FOR MOST PEOPLE.

YES MA'AM.

THE, UH, INVENTORY IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.

WHAT, SO WHAT HAPPENS TO THAT IS HE, THAT'S A REALLY GREAT QUESTION.

WE ARE CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING, UH, MATERIALS, FURNITURE, EQUIPMENT, LIKE EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING.

UM, AND GOING THROUGH AN EVALUATION PERIOD TO SEE OR EVALUATION PROCESS TO SEE WHAT, WHAT DO WE NEED TO KEEP IN STORE, UH, CUZ WE WILL BE STORING SOME MATERIALS OFFSITE WHILE THE THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT GOES ON.

AND THAT'S TO HAVE ACCESS TO IT? NO.

OKAY.

IF IT'S STORED IT, WE WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO IT.

OKAY.

UM, BUT WE'RE ALSO LOOKING TO SEE WHAT ITEMS MAY NOT BE USED AS MUCH AS WHAT WE NEED THEM TO BE USED AT THE TEMPORARY FACILITY, BUT IT, A BRANCH LIBRARY NEEDS TO HOUSE THOSE ITEMS TO KEEP ACCESS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE, UM, PATRONS.

AND THEN ARE THERE CERTAIN ITEMS THAT WE CAN HELP MOVE ALONG MM-HMM.

THAT THEY'VE SERVED THEIR TIME, UH, SALE, IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING? I, THAT IS NOT WHAT I'M SAYING.

, DO YOU KNOW WHAT, LIKE A, IS THERE A PERCENTAGE OF THE INVENTORY THAT IS NOT GONNA BE ACCESSIBLE? A GOOD PORTION OF IT WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE DURING THIS TIME, BUT WE WILL TRY TO GET, UH, FOUR PATRONS, WHATEVER IT IS THAT THEY NEED TO GET.

SO WE STILL COULD ACCESS AND, UM, MOVE MATERIALS FROM ANY OF THE LOCATIONS TO THE CENTRAL LIBRARY FOR SOMEONE TO PICK UP OR SEND THEM TO SOUTH FOR SOMEONE TO BE ABLE TO USE AND PICK UP OR WHATEVER A A PATRON WANTS TO BE ABLE TO DO WITHIN THE SYSTEM.

WE CAN ALWAYS ORDER MATERIALS IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DEEM THE COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT TEAM THINKS WOULD, UM, BENEFIT OUR COLLECTION.

AND THEN WE ALWAYS HAVE INTER-LIBRARY LOAN AS A GREAT, UM, THING AS WELL.

SO WE WILL STILL, UH, SO THE BULK IS GOING TO COME OUT AND PUT IN STORAGE THEN? YES.

OKAY.

YES.

UM, I WOULD ADD THAT WE ARE THESE CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPRESS WILL BE GETTING NEW MATERIALS AND THAT'S WHAT THE MAIN FOCUS IS TOO, IS ON THOSE NEW MATERIALS.

SO THE BEST SELLERS AND THE THINGS THAT ARE GETTING PUBLISHED.

OH, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY, HOW MANY PIECES OF MATERIAL WE HAVE? OH, THE MAIN LIBRARY? GOODNESS.

AT THE MAIN LIBRARY, I THINK IT'S CLOSE TO 200,000, UH, SOMEWHERE IN THAT, THAT NEIGHBORHOOD.

AND WHERE, WHERE DOES IT GET STORED? THAT'S PART OF THE BID PROCESS.

OH.

UM, THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER THAT ONE OF THE THINGS WAS I THINK MOVING AND STORAGE.

OH.

THINGS, SO WE DON'T KNOW YET, BUT IT WILL BE IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.

SO THE MATERIALS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE.

AND I'M SURE YOU'VE TOLD US THIS BEFORE, BUT SHOULD THE CONSTRUCTION BEGIN AS PLANNED RIGHT NOW? JUNE, 2023? WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT FOR COMPLETION OF THE, OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY? FOR THE CENTRAL LIBRARY, IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE CLOSER TO, I'D SAY DECEMBER, 2024.

JANUARY, 2025.

AND THAT'S, YOU KNOW, CENTRAL'S A LITTLE BIT OF A MORE DIFFICULT PROJECT BECAUSE WE'RE TAKING AN OLDER BUILDING AND TRYING TO UPDATE THINGS AND THERE WILL NO DOUBT BE A SURPRISE BEHIND THE DOOR, NUMBER ONE, DOOR NUMBER TWO OR DOOR NUMBER THREE THAT WE'LL HAVE TO WORK THROUGH.

BUT THE WALNUT PROJECT I THINK WILL BE A LOT SMOOTHER.

NOT SMOOTHER, UH, STRAIGHTFORWARD.

YES.

STRAIGHTFORWARD, UH, THAN THE, THE CENTRAL PROJECT.

MORE PREDICTABLE, HOPEFULLY , BUT HOPEFULLY THIS IS ALL, WE'RE JUST, THIS IS WORST CASE SCENARIO.

AND WE'RE BACK IN CENTRAL SUPER FAST.

I MEAN, NO DEAD BODIES.

[00:15:01]

NO WHAT? NO DEAD BODIES? NO, NO, NO.

.

UM, THE OTHER I, OR I'M SORRY.

ARE THERE, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPRESS.

I GUESS JUST FROM AN ONLINE CATALOG STANDPOINT MM-HMM.

, WILL IT BE REALLY CLEAR FOR PATRONS WHEN THEY'RE ONLINE THAT A MATERIAL'S NOT AVAILABLE OR HOW THEY CAN GET IT, OR? YES.

SO WE'RE GOING THROUGH WITH OUR, UM, CATALOGING TEAM AND OUR, UM, INTEGRATED LIBRARY SYSTEM SERVICE THAT SOME THINGS MAY BE MASKED IN THE COLLECTION.

SO, UH, PATRONS AREN'T ABLE TO PLACE A RESERVE OR, UM, TRY TO EASE THE PROCESS, BUT WE ARE INCLUDING AND INCREASING, UM, THE DIGITAL CONTENT THAT WE'RE OFFERING THROUGH OVERDRIVE.

AND, UM, AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE NEXT, UM, NEXT BOARD MEETING, .

SO YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT YET TO COME.

SO ANY OTHER THERE? IT'S ONE ADDITIONAL THING I WANNA SHOW.

SO YOU MAY REMEMBER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THAT THIS CITY PURCHASED THAT HOUSE THAT'S BEHIND THE WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES BUILDING.

UM MM-HMM.

LOCATED RIGHT HERE.

AND THIS IS WHERE OUR LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION TEAM AND OUTREACH TEAM IS GONNA BE HOUSED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD.

OH, REALLY? YES.

, UM, UH, THEY AGAIN, FACILITIES, IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT, THEY'RE WORKING TO, UM, MAKE SURE WE HAVE ELECTRICAL NETWORK, PUTTING SOME FRESH PAINT ON THE WALLS, BUT AGAIN, REALLY TRYING TO MINIMIZE THE FINANCIAL IMPACT ON ANY OF THOSE IMPROVEMENTS, JUST MAKING IT HABITABLE FOR THE, THE PERIOD THAT WILL BE IN THERE.

SO THE, THE WOMEN'S BUILDING, DID THEY MOVE OR ARE OR IT WAS VACANT OR IT IT'S VACANT.

THIS HAS BEEN CLOSED DOWN SINCE BEFORE THE, AROUND THE PANDEMIC TIME.

OH, MM-HMM.

AND THE CITY OWNED IT.

I'M SORRY.

YES.

SO IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S A LOT OF COORDINATION AMONG CITY SERVICES TO MAKE ALL OF THIS WORK.

YES.

HOW WONDERFUL.

OKAY.

YES.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? IF NOT, WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT TOPIC.

LIBRARY BRANCH NAME.

OH, IS THAT SORRY OR DID YOU HAVE MORE BOND? I HAVE MORE BOND PRODUCT YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT.

OKAY.

, I WAS GONNA SAY, DO WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT WAS JUST SO BIG.

WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT OTHER LOCATIONS YET.

OKAY.

UM, SO OUR LIBRARY MATERIALS KIOSK, WE HAVE A BIG UPDATE IF YOU'VE BEEN BY, UM, BEEN BY CITY HALL.

WE'RE ALL AT CITY HALL TODAY.

, IF YOU GO OUT, IT'S AT THE SOUTH WEST CORNER, I THINK OF THE BLOCK HERE.

YOU CAN SEE THAT, UM, THEY'VE POURED THE CONCRETE SLAB AND YOU CAN SEE THE CONDUIT BEFORE THE ELECTRICAL END OF THE NETWORK FOR THE KIOSK THAT'S GONNA BE PLACED HERE, WHICH IS, UM, SHOWN HERE, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

AGAIN, IT'S RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE SQUARE AND THE SQUARE'S GETTING THAT WONDERFUL UPGRADE AND IMPROVEMENT.

UM, AND THIS IS CLOSE TO PARKING AND THIS WILL BE A REALLY GREAT THING.

UM, WE'RE LOOKING FOR INSTALLATION OF THIS MATERIAL'S KIOSK TO BE THE WEEK OF APRIL 24TH.

SO APRIL'S GOING TO BE A VERY BUSY MONTH, UM, FOR THE LIBRARY.

UH, AND THEN WE'LL DO SOME TESTING.

BUT AGAIN, THE, UM, THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THIS LIBRARY MATERIALS KIOSK UP AND RUNNING FOR THE PUBLIC WHEN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY PROJECT BEGINS AND WE MOVE INTO THE TEMPORARY FACILITY AND THIS, UM, KIOSK AND, AND THE LAWN WIN ONE AS WELL, UH, WILL HOSE OUR HOUSE, UM, VERY POPULAR MATERIALS, SOME KITS FOR KIDS WITH HAVING, UM, MULTIPLE BOOKS AND SETS THAT THEY CAN CHECK OUT FROM HERE AS WELL.

AND THEN WE'LL, WE'LL GO THROUGH A PROCESS TO SEE WHAT PATRONS ARE RESPONDING TO, WHAT PATRONS ARE REQUESTING, AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AS NEEDED.

OUR LAWN, WIND PARK LOCATION, UM, PARKS AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT ARE WORKING TOGETHER NOW.

UM, AND THEY HAVE A, A JUNE DATE OF POURING THE PAD AND HAVING THE ELECTRICAL AND NETWORK INSTALLED AT THAT LOCATION, UM, WITH THE INSTALLATION DATE IN LATE JULY.

AND WE'RE, WE'RE RUNNING UP, UH, RUNNING UP AGAINST THE DEADLINE FOR THIS PROJECT IN PARTICULAR, UM, BECAUSE THIS IS FUNDED THROUGH THE CD, CD, BG GRANT, UM, FUNDS.

UM, SO WE NEED TO HAVE ALL OF THIS COMPLETE, UH, BY AUGUST OF THIS YEAR.

AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THESE TWO LIBRARY KIOSKS INSTALLATIONS,

[00:20:04]

THEN OUR NORTH LIBRARY PROJECTS, IF YOU REMEMBER, UM, I THINK WE TALKED ABOUT IT IN JANUARY, THAT, UH, THIS WAS A JOINT PROJECT WITH NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO DO A, UH, FACADE IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE ENTIRE, UM, SHOPPING CENTER, UH, WHERE THE NORTH LA GARLAND LIBRARY IS, UH, LOCATED.

SO THE GOOD NEWS IS, UM, THE TEAM PRESENTED TO COUNCIL ON FEBRUARY 20TH, AND THEY APPROVED THE PROJECT.

SO WE HAVE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS READY.

THE PROJECT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY GO OUT TO BID IN APRIL.

AGAIN, WE'LL SEEK COUNCIL APPROVAL FOR THAT PROCESS AND THE, THAT, UH, BID IN MAY AND HAVE A TENTATIVE CONSTRUCTION DATE, UH, TO BEGIN IN JUNE OF 2023, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

SO THE TIMEFRAME ON THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS.

UH, AND THIS INCLUDES IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PARKING LOT.

WE GET A NEW LIBRARY SIGN, UM, AND SOME SCREENING THAT REALLY HELP SHOWCASE THAT THE LIBRARY IS IN THIS BUILDING AND HELPS CAPTURE SOME, UM, PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AND AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC THAT'S GOING ALONG, UH, GARLAND AVENUE.

UM, DOWN THAT CORRIDOR.

UH, WE ARE GOING TO PROBABLY CHOOSE THE LIGHTER COLOR, THE YELLOW, I KNOW THE ARCHITECT WORKED, UM, TO CHOOSE THIS GOLDEN YELLOW COLOR BECAUSE IT COMPLIMENTS SOME OF THE TEMPLES THAT ARE AROUND IN THAT AREA THAT HAVE SOME OF THAT COLOR.

UM, UM, AND THIS IS A LARGER, I'M SHOWCASING THE LIBRARY HERE, BUT THIS IS A LARGER FACADE IMPROVEMENT, UM, THAT IN CAPTURES THE ENTIRE SHOPPING CENTER.

SO THE CITY OWNS THAT WHOLE, UH, STOREFRONT? NO, MA'AM.

THE CITY, IT'S A PRIVATE, UH, PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP.

UH, THE, THE CITY OWNS, I THINK IT'S 47% OF THE SHOPPING CENTER AND THE PRIVATE, THE 53%.

OKAY.

SO JUST SO YOU KNOW, UH, IF THIS PROJECT BEGINS IN JUNE, IT MAY IMPACT OUR SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT NORTH A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE PART OF THIS PROJECT DOES INCLUDE, UH, UPDATES AND SOME RECONFIGURATION OF THE PARKING LOT.

UM, WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR PARKS TEAM NOW AND WE'LL, YOU KNOW, AS WE CAN.

AND, UM, DEPENDING ON THE HEAT, WE'LL, WE HAVE PLANS A, B, AND C PART OF THAT IS TO, UH, MAYBE RELOCATE SOME OF OUR LARGER PROGRAMS OVER TO WINTERS PARK AS NEEDED.

SO, WE'LL, WE WILL WORK THROUGH IT AT THE END OF THE DAY.

IT'S A WONDERFUL IMPROVEMENT TO THE OUTSIDE OF THIS FACILITY, SO WE'LL MAKE IT WORK.

YEAH.

THE HOPES SHOPPING CENTER WILL LOOK SO MUCH BETTER.

YES, MA'AM.

HOW MANY SQUARE FEET IS THE LIBRARY RIGHT THERE? 18,000.

SO DIRECTOR ARCH.

SO I NEED TO MAKE SURE ALL THE BEAUTIFICATION IS JUST GONNA BE AROUND OUR PART.

THERE'S NOT GONNA BE ANYTHING LIKE ON THAT BOTTOM PICTURE TO THE, TO THE RIGHT, I GUESS ON YOUR, YEAH, OVER HERE.

MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

THERE'S NOTHING GOING TO HAPPEN LIKE IN THE PARKING LOT.

UM, FOR THE PRIVATE SECTIONS OF THE, THE 53% THERE, IS IT GONNA BE OVERLAY SO THAT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL? I MEAN, IT'S GONNA BE SO GREAT FOR OUR SECTION IS THAT THE REST OF IT'LL JUST LOOK GOOD TOO.

THIS IS A SPECIAL PROJECT, UM, BETWEEN US NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE, UM, THE PRIVATE OWNER.

OH.

AND SO AS PART OF THIS, AND I'M, I MAY BE GETTING THIS WRONG, SO I, , YAKO WILL HAVE TO FORGIVE ME.

THERE'S SOME FACADE, UH, GRANT IMPROVEMENTS AND SOME FUNDS, OR I THINK THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF A PROJECT THAT NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY HAD STARTED IN 2017, THAT THE, IT WON'T JUST BE THE LIBRARY'S PORTION THAT GETS THE IMPROVEMENT.

IT'S THE WHOLE, UM, THAT'S GOOD.

OH, OKAY.

THE WHOLE, THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

YES, YES.

AND I, ONE EXCITING THING FOR US TO, UM, A NEW COUNCILMAN HEDRICK AND, AND THE LIBRARY TEAM, IF WE CAN SWING IT MONEY-WISE, WHAT WE'D LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO TOO IS ALONG THE BACKSIDE THAT I THINK APOLLO RUNS DOWN, BEING ABLE TO USE SOME OF THAT AS A MURAL OR SIGNAGE OR SOMETHING TO BEAUTIFY AND CAPTURE, USE IT FOR SOME MARKETING BACK THERE, BUT TO ALSO BEAUTIFY IT.

UM, THAT AS WELL.

BUT LIKE I SAID, THIS HAS TO GO TO BID AND WE DO HAVE A FINITE AMOUNT OF MONEY, SO WE'LL HAVE TO, TO DO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITH WHAT WE HAVE, BUT IT'S GONNA BE A GREAT PROJECT.

DID THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, MS. GRANT? YES.

[00:25:01]

I HADN'T BEEN IN THE NORTH BRANCH FOR A LONG TIME.

I'M, I'VE LIVED LIKE WALKING DISTANCE ALMOST TO THE SOUTH BRANCH.

MM-HMM.

, I'M KIND OF PARTIAL AND THEN I'M DOWNTOWN ALL THE TIME.

SO WHEN I WENT IN THE NORTH BRANCH WHEN THE LIBRARY, UM, DEPARTMENT HAD THAT, UM, PRESENTATION DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

YES MA'AM.

I ATTENDED THAT.

I SAW Y'ALL THERE.

BUT ANYWAY, , ANYWAY, IT WAS SO NICE IN THAT LIBRARY.

I'M LIKE, I GOTTA COME OVER HERE MORE OFTEN, .

IT'S REALLY NICE.

YEAH, I DON'T, WE WANT THE OUTSIDE TO MIRROR THE INSIDE TOO.

AND I THINK IT'S, IT'S, IT DOESN'T, THE TWO DON'T NECESSARILY MATCH RIGHT NOW, BUT WITH THIS, HOPEFULLY IT WILL MATCH.

AND THEN ALSO WITH NORTH, UM, AT SOME POINT IN 2023, WE'RE PROBABLY LOOKING AT BEGINNING THE DESIGN PROCESS FOR THE INTERIOR UPDATES FOR THE NORTH GARLAND BRANCH.

SO NORTH WILL HAVE A LOT OF ACTIVITY GOING ON IN IT, OUTSIDE IT AND AROUND IT.

OH, AND ONE THING THAT I FORGOT TO INCLUDE AS WELL IS WITH THE, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THE PRIVATE, UH, OWNER WANTED TO INCLUDE WERE SECURITY CAMERAS, UH, FOR THE OUTSIDE OF THAT FACILITY, WHICH BENEFITS THE LIBRARY AS WELL.

OOPS.

OKAY.

WELL THAT'S ALL VERY ENCOURAGING.

IT ISN'T, IT'S EXCITING.

THE, THE ONE THING I WILL ADD FOR WALNUT CREEK, I DON'T HAVE A SEPARATE SLIDE FOR WALNUT CREEK.

WE'RE SORT OF IN THE SAME PLACE AS WITH THESE OTHER PROJECTS.

WE'RE GETTING READY TO GO OUT TO BID IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR THIS PROJECT.

SO WE MAY HAVE FOUR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME, WHICH IS THRILLING AND EXCITING .

ALL RIGHT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS ON THIS AREA? ALL RIGHT, NOW WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE LIBRARY BRANCH NAME.

YES.

SO TALKING ABOUT WALNUT, UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT OUR PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE IS REQUESTING, I THINK WE TALKED ABOUT, UH, SEVERAL MONTHS AGO IN THE FALL, THAT WE NEED A NAME TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS PARTICULAR FACILITY.

DOES IT KEEP THE WALNUT CREEK LIBRARY NAME OR DOES IT GET RENAMED TO WEST LIBRARY? UH, THAT KIND OF KEEPS MORE WITH THE, THE NAMING CONVENTION, BUT DOESN'T NECESSARILY, I THINK THE COUPLE OF, UH, BOARD MEMBERS COMMENTED THAT IT LACKED CREATIVITY AND ANYTHING SPECIAL WITH GOING WITH THAT DIRECTIONAL, UM, NAMING CONVENTION.

UM, SO TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PROJECT, WITH THE BID PORTION, THEY ARE ASKING DO WE HAVE A NAME TO BE ABLE TO PUT ON THE BID DOCUMENTS? SO WHAT I'D LIKE TO REQUEST TONIGHT IS IF, DO YOU FEEL STRONGLY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER WITH EACH, WITH EITHER OF THESE NAMES OR IS THERE, IS THERE A THIRD OPTION THAT'S OUT THERE, UM, FOR US TO MOVE FORWARD WITH IN THE NAMING OF THIS PARTICULAR FACILITY? SO, SO NOW WE HAVE CENTRAL AND WE HAVE NORTH SOUTH AND SOUTH SOUTH.

AND SO YEAH, YOU GO FOR WEST SOUNDS LIKE WEST WOULD BE ALL RIGHT TO ME.

, YOU KNOW, IT SOUNDS SO PLAIN, BUT YOU KNOW, IT IS PART OF THE NAMING SCHEME.

SO I DON'T KNOW.

YEAH, THAT'S MY FEELING TOO.

I THINK WALNUT, THE CREEK IS A NICE NAME, IS DESCRIPTIVE, BUT IT IS AN OUTLIER.

AND I THINK TOO, THE OTHER COMMENT I MADE LAST TIME WAS THAT AT, FROM A FORWARD-LOOKING PERSPECTIVE, IF YOU'RE GONNA ADD ANOTHER LIBRARY BRANCH AT SOME POINT, YOU KNOW, IT KIND OF, YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH THE SAME CONVENTION.

YEAH.

SO KAREN, DO YOU SOUTHWEST OUT EAST, WHATEVER IT IS.

I KNOW.

DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE WALNUT CREEK LIBRARY AND WHY IT WAS NAMED THAT WAY? I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S SOME MAGICAL STORY THAT, THAT WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF.

I UNFORTUNATELY, I, I WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK AND PULL SOME THINGS.

UM, I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THE CREEK BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY.

KINDA LIKE WHEN WE HAD RIDGEWOOD, RIDGEWOOD WAS NAMED BECAUSE IT, IT WAS RIDGEWOOD MM-HMM.

IN THAT AREA.

MM-HMM.

, I DON'T, I DON'T KNOW.

IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF EVERYTHING IF WE HAD A MAGICAL REASON WHY.

WELL, AND THAT'S FINE.

BUT I MEAN, IF THERE WAS SOME LONG-STANDING HISTORY THAT QUOTE UNQUOTE, EVERYBODY KNOWS, AND IF THERE WERE A COMPELLING REASON TO KEEP THAT BECAUSE OF THAT HISTORY, THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THIS, THIS GROUP TO KNOW.

BUT IF IT'S MORE OF A GEOGRAPHICAL DESCRIPTION, THAT THAT'S FINE.

YEAH.

AND THAT NAME DREW FROM THE STREET ITSELF TOO, RIGHT? YES.

YEAH.

[00:30:01]

I DON'T KNOW HOW, UH, HOW WEST THAT PLACE COULD BE.

I'M TRYING TO THINK.

UH, UH, I DON'T THINK IT IS REALLY WEST.

MAYBE NORTHWEST, I DON'T KNOW.

BUT, UH, WEST WOULD NOT BE LOCATED AT THAT PLACE FOR ME.

UM, I'M FINE WITH WALNUT CREEK LIBRARY.

.

WELL, THAT'S A PRETTY NAME.

YEAH.

UM, AGAIN, ONLY LOOK AT THE, UH, NAMING THAT YOU HAVE SOUTH, YOU HAVE NORTH, UH, WE HAVE CENTRAL.

SO IN TERMS OF CAMPUS, UH, IF YOU LOOK AT THE CAMPUS, WE SAY NORTHWEST, SOUTHEAST.

SO WE, WE, WE, WE MAY CONSIDER WEST IF WE SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE WILL CONSIDER EAST AND, AND BE CONSISTENT.

UH, UH, CAUSE EAST SIDE IS GROWING AND UH, SOMEONE IS GOING TO COME UP VERY SOON SAYING THAT WE NEED AN EAST LIBRARY SOMEWHERE.

, .

I DON'T DISAGREE.

, I'M, SO THERE'S BOUND TO BE ANOTHER BOND ELECTION AT SOME POINT.

.

OKAY.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT THE, OR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NAME? OKAY.

BECAUSE THIS DOESN'T JUST SOLELY LIE ON, I SHOW THIS THE NAMING OF THE LIBRARY.

RIGHT? THE BOARD, THE BOARD WILL MAKE THE RECOMMENDATION.

OKAY.

AND THEN WE'LL, WE'LL GO FROM THERE WITH, UM, I THINK IT HAS TO GO TO A, SO THOSE NEED TO BE MADE AT THIS MEETING TONIGHT FOR THE BID DOCUMENTS.

THEY'RE LOOK REALLY LOOKING FOR DIRECTION OF WHAT DO YOU PREFER? SO THEY CAN PUT THOSE ON THE BID DOCUMENTS.

SO DOES A MOTION NEED TO BE MADE SO WE CAN COME OUT OF THIS AS A BOARD, UH, DECISION BY POPULAR VOTE? YES, MA'AM.

SO I MOVE THAT THE BOARD RECOMMEND WEST LIBRARY FOR THE NAMING OF THE RENAMING OF THE WALNUT CREEK LIBRARY.

SECOND, THE MOTION.

THANK YOU.

THE MOTION IS TO GO FORWARD WITH WEST LIBRARY.

I'M SORRY I DIDN'T SAY THAT QUITE AS ELOQUENTLY AS YOU DID, BUT, UM, TO GO FORWARD WITH NAMING THE WEST LIBRARY.

UM, IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS? OKAY, WE'LL PROCEED WITH THE VOTE.

ALL IN FAVOR OF MOVING FORWARD WITH THE NAME WEST LIBRARY, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

ANY OPPOSED? OKAY.

MOTION IS CARRIED AND THE WEST LIBRARY WILL BE THE NAME THAT WE WILL RECOMMEND.

THANK YOU.

MM-HMM.

.

ALL RIGHT.

THE NEXT AGENDA ITEM, LIBRARY OUTREACH.

SO AT LAST MONTH'S MEETING, I GAVE YOU A PREVIEW OF SOME REALLY EXCITING THINGS THAT WE WERE WORKING ON WITH LIBRARY OUTREACH.

AND I PROMISE THAT I WOULDN'T STEAL ALL OF MORGAN'S FENDER FOR THE PROGRAM.

SO TONIGHT OUR, UM, LIBRARY OUTREACH COORDINATOR MORGAN BLACKBURN IS, IS HERE TO TALK ABOUT, UH, TWO REALLY BIG THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON AND THAT WE'RE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH.

SO BRING MORGAN ON IT.

AS MORGAN COMES UP.

I DO, I JUST WANT TO SHARE THIS STATISTIC AS WELL.

SO, UH, I WAS PUTTING TOGETHER SOME INFORMATION FOR A DIFFERENT, UH, PRESENTATION AT THE END OF LAST MONTH AND WAS RUNNING THROUGH SOME NUMBERS.

AND IN FISCAL YEAR 22, WE AVERAGED ABOUT 220 PEOPLE PER MONTH AT AN OUTREACH EVENT, OR THAT WE MAKE CONTACT WITH AT OUTREACH.

IN THIS FISCAL YEAR THAT JUST STARTED OCTOBER ONE, WE'RE AVERAGING ABOUT 740 CONTACTS THAT WE'RE MAKING PER MONTH OUT IN THE COMMUNITY, UH, AT OUTREACH EVENTS, WHICH IS AMAZING.

AND WE'VE ALMOST TRIPLED THE CONTACTS THAT WE'RE MAKING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY, AND IT HAS A REALLY BIG IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY.

SO WITH THAT, WE'RE ABLE TO ISSUE LIBRARY CARDS TO, UM, DIFFERENT FAMILIES.

AND THEY MAY ONLY GO BACK WITH ONE LIBRARY CARD, BUT IT IMPACTS AN ENTIRE FAMILY WITH THAT LIBRARY CARD.

THEY LEARN ABOUT SERVICES, THEY'RE COMING TO PROGRAMS AND EVENTS.

SO IT'S, IT'S, IT TAKES A LOT

[00:35:01]

OF TIME, A LOT OF WORK AND EFFORT, BUT WE ARE SEEING SOME REALLY GREAT REWARDS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT.

SO TAKE IT AWAY.

MORGAN .

HELLO.

UM, SO I KNOW, AND YOU, I KNOW KAREN WENT OVER A LITTLE BIT OF THIS, SO WE ARE LOOKING TO START LIBRARY ON THE GO.

UM, AND THE PURPOSE OF OUR LIBRARY ON THE GO IS WE REALLY WANT TO ESTABLISH A POP-UP LIBRARY, UM, THAT WILL CONNECT MORE OF OUR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITY WITH OUR RESOURCES, OUR PROGRAMS, OUR MATERIALS, UM, AND REALLY KIND OF MEET EVERYBODY WHERE MEET OUR COMMUNITY WHERE THEY ARE INSTEAD OF HAVING EVERYBODY.

AND, AND IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO OUR PHYSICAL LOCATIONS, THEN PLEASE VISIT OUR LIBRARY ON THE GO .

UM, AND THEN OUR GOALS FOR THE LIBRARY ON THE GO ARE TO, UM, LIKE I SAID, REACH THE UNDERSERVED AREAS OF GARLAND, UM, AND THEN REALLY REACH ALL AGES THE, THE SENIORS, THE KIDS AND FAMILIES, UM, ARE THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, THE ADULTS.

UM, AND THEN WE WILL DO, UM, SOME PROGRAMMING THERE.

WE'LL HAVE SOME TECHNOLOGY AND ACCESS TO THE INTERNET THERE.

AND, UM, REALLY KIND OF WORK TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND PROGRAMS FOR OUR ENGLISH SPEAKING FAMILIES, OUR SPANISH SPEAKING FAMILIES, OUR VIETNAMESE SPEAKING FAMILIES, , UM, AND THEN ALSO PARTNER WITH EDDIE'S OTHER CITY LOCATIONS OR OTHER CITY DEPARTMENTS, UM, AND ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE SOME MORE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

AND WE WILL DO THAT WITH, UM, SO WITH THOSE GOALS IN MIND, IT'S NOT INTENDED TO BE A PERMANENT LOCATION.

UM, IT'S LIBRARY ON THE GO.

SO WE WILL BE, WE WILL ESTABLISH OUR POP-UP LIBRARY OR OUR, UM, I'LL SHOW YOU THE PICTURE IN A SECOND.

I DUNNO, , UM, WE'LL HAVE THE LIBRARY IN THERE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS.

UM, WE'RE STILL KIND OF WORKING ON THE TIMELINE FOR WHEN, HOW LONG IT WILL STAY THERE IN THE, IN THE LOCATION THAT WE CHOOSE.

UM, SO IT'S NOT INTENDED TO BE A PERMANENT LOCATION.

UM, WE WON'T REALLY BE PROVIDING THOSE IN-DEPTH REFERENCE SERVICES THAT YOU MIGHT GET.

UM, IF YOU COME TO ONE OF OUR, UM, PERMANENT LOCATIONS, UM, THERE WON'T BE A A AREA FOR, FOR MEETING SPACES, UM, TO RESERVE.

THERE WILL BE SOME TABLES AND THINGS TO, TO JUST SIT WITH YOUR, IF YOU NEED TO BE ON YOUR LAPTOP OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

BUT THERE WON'T, IT WON'T PROVIDE THOSE PRIVATE STUDY AREAS.

UM, AND THEN IT WON'T TAKE THE PLACE OF GOING OUT AND BEING AND DOING THOSE OUTREACH EVENTS WHERE WE'RE MAKING THOSE CONNECTIONS.

UM, AND THEN IT'S ALL GOING TO HAPPEN OUT OF A STORAGE CONTAINER, .

UM, SO THIS IS OUR LIBRARY ON THE GO.

AND, UM, WE ARE REPURPOSING THE STORAGE CONTAINER THAT WAS USED FOR THE BETTER BLOCK, UM, EVENT THAT THE CITY HAD OVER BY THE, WHERE THE VA HOSPITAL IS.

AND, UM, THERE WILL BE, WE'RE LOOKING FOR OUR SOFT LUNCH TO HAPPEN APRIL 10TH.

SO A LOT WILL BE HAPPENING A LOT WILL BE HAPPENING IN APRIL.

UM, SO THE SOFT LUNCH WILL HAPPEN APRIL 10TH.

AND WE'RE, UM, WE ARE LOOKING TO START IT AT THE, IN THE BRADFIELD PARK AND REC CENTER AREA.

UM, IT'S VERY CLOSE TO, THERE'S SELLERS.

MIDDLE IS RIGHT THERE, UM, SELLERS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

UM, THERE, IT'S, IT'S RIGHT THERE.

YOU CAN SEE IT FROM THE PARKING LOT.

UM, THEN THERE'S, IT'S A PRETTY HEAVY RESIDENTIAL AREA AS WELL.

UM, THERE ARE ACCESS TO RESTROOMS, , AND, UM, IT'S JUST, WE ARE HOPING TO SEE JUST WHO, WHO WE GET, UM, FROM THAT AREA.

AND THEN WE WILL BE THERE FROM ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS FROM THREE TO SEVEN.

SO IT REALLY HITS THAT AFTER SCHOOL CROWD.

UM, PARENTS WAITING TO PICK UP THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS.

UM, MAYBE THEY'RE GOING TO USE THE, THE BASEBALL FIELDS OR THE PRACTICE FIELDS RIGHT THERE, UM, USING THE REC CENTER.

AND WE ARE, SO WE'RE AIMING TO BE THERE BETWEEN, FROM THREE TO SEVEN ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS.

AND THAT'S JUST TO START.

UM, AND THEN WE WILL BE STAFFING IT WITH THREE,

[00:40:01]

UM, THREE STAFF MEMBERS, THREE LIBRARY STAFF MEMBERS, JUST FOR, UM, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF MOVING INVOLVED AND LIKE PULLING THE THINGS THAT ARE AT IN THE CONTAINER OUT OF IT AND SETTING IT UP, AND THEN OBVIOUSLY PUTTING IT BACK IN THERE.

AND THEN FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, WE, WE REALLY WANNA HAVE THREE, THREE STAFF MEMBERS AVAILABLE.

COULD YOU KINDLY GIVE ME A STREET NAME FOR GOLDFIELD PARK SELLERS SCHOOL? YES.

I MEANT IT IS , WHERE IT IS.

IT'S OFF CASTLE DRIVE.

AT CAST CASTLE.

OKAY.

THAT'S IN NORTHWEST GAR, I MEAN NORTHEAST.

NORTHEAST, YES.

MM-HMM.

.

OKAY.

YES.

I WILL ADD ONE OF THE THINGS AND MORGAN'S TALKING ABOUT, UH, HOW MANY STAFF PEOPLE THAT WE'RE ASSIGNING OR, UM, YEAH, ASSIGNING TO THIS PROJECT.

WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THIS BECAUSE OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY PROJECT.

MM-HMM.

, IF CENTRAL WAS NOT RELOCATING TO SUCH A SMALL AREA, WE MAY BE SCRAMBLING OR DOING SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, BUT WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF AN OPPORTUNITY HERE WITH MANPOWER TO BE ABLE TO DEVOTE AND DO SOME OF THESE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES, UM, WITH THAT.

SO WE'RE NOT ADDING STAFF TO THE PROJECT.

MM-HMM.

, WE'RE USING WHAT WE HAVE IN A DIFFERENT WAY FOR THIS PROGRAM.

MM-HMM.

.

UM, AND SO AT THE, AT THE, THE CONTAINER, OUR LIBRARY ON THE GO, WE WILL, LIKE I SAID, IT WON'T BE A PRIVATE STUDY SPACE OR HEAVY REFERENCE SERVICES.

UM, BUT WE WILL TRY TO PROVIDE SOME MATERIALS AND THAT WILL JUST BE, WE WILL CHANGE THOSE MATERIALS OUT.

WE'LL HAVE 'EM ON CARTS, UM, WE'LL HAVE 'EM THERE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AND THEY'RE THERE IF ANYBODY, IF SOMEBODY WOULD LIKE TO CHECK THEM OUT.

AND, UM, THEY, IT'S MORE LIKE A LUCKY DAY KIND OF COLLECTION, UM, THAT WE'LL HAVE THERE.

AND THEN WE WILL OFFER LIBRARY CARD SIGNUPS.

UM, LIKE I SAID, WE WILL HAVE SOME TECHNOLOGY, SO WIFI AVAILABILITY AND THEN, UM, THE INSIDE OF THAT CONTAINER, IT'S GOT A LOT OF STUFF IN IT AND PART OF SOME OF IT, UM, THEY'VE GOT SOME OUTDOOR GAINS IN IT.

UM, WE'LL PULL THOSE GAINS OUT AND HAVE THOSE AVAILABLE FOR KIDS AND, UM, UH, EVEN ADULTS.

AND THEN WE WILL ALSO DO SOME LIBRARY PROGRAMMING.

SO TO START OFF, FOR, ESPECIALLY FOR A SOFT LAUNCH, LIKE WE WE'RE NOT 100% SURE WHO, WHO WILL, WHO IT WILL ATTRACT AND WHO, UM, WHAT THEY WILL GET OUT OF IT.

SO, UM, WE'LL HAVE SOME PASSIVE PROGRAMS THERE FOR PEOPLE TO, THEY CAN, THEY CAN UTILIZE THEM OR HAVE FUN WITH THEM IF THEY WOULD LIKE.

UM, BUT WE WILL ALSO HAVE, LIKE I SAID, THE COLLECTION OR SOME MATERIALS FOR CHECKOUT AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO ANOTHER BIG GOAL, I THINK, I THINK MORGAN SAID THIS OR MAY HAVE SAID THIS FROM ANOTHER, A PREVIOUS SLIDE MM-HMM.

, IT'S REALLY ALSO MEANT TO HELP, UM, MAYBE FOR SOME FAMILIES OR PEOPLE WHO DON'T EITHER KNOW ABOUT GARLAND LIBRARIES, WHERE THEY'RE LOCATED, THAT THE SERVICES THAT WE OFFER, THEY'RE INTIMIDATED ABOUT COMING INTO A LIBRARY FOR WHATEVER REASON.

I MEAN, THERE'S A WHOLE HOST OF REASONS THAT PEOPLE MAY FIND WALKING INTO A LIBRARY.

INTIMIDATING.

IT'S AS SAID EARLIER, WE'RE TAKING IT OUT TO THE PEOPLE AND MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY'RE AT AND TRYING TO, TO MAKE THAT CONNECTION, GIVE THEM A LITTLE TASTE OF WHAT WE OFFER.

AND WHETHER IT'S WALKING BACK INTO OUR DOORS AT ONE OF OUR FOUR FACILITIES OR UTILIZING THE LIBRARY ONLINE, THEY'VE MADE THAT CONNECTION.

THEY'VE MADE THAT, UH, HUMAN CONNECTION THERE AND THEY'LL BE MORE OPEN AND COMFORTABLE IN USING LIBRARY SERVICES IN THE FUTURE.

MM-HMM.

.

SO THAT APRIL 10TH IS A HARD DATE.

PRETTY MUCH.

THAT'S WHAT WE WOULD LIKE IT.

WE'RE WORKING WITH THE PARKS DEPARTMENT.

I'M SORRY, I SHOULD LET YOU ANSWER THAT.

, WE'RE WORKING WITH THE PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT, UM, ON THE MOVING OF THE FACILITY AND MAKING SURE THAT THAT WORKS FOR THEIR NEEDS.

BUT THAT'S THE, THE DATES THAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED.

UM, I KNOW A LADY OVER THAT WAY GONNA BE STANDING ON HER HEAD EXCITED .

SO THAT'S WHY I ASKED YOU ABOUT THE, I DON'T WANT TELL HER A DATE.

AND IT MAY BE THE 15TH.

.

THAT'S WONDERFUL NEWS.

NO GOING TO BE IN ONE PLACE.

ONLY THE BRADFORD, IS IT GONNA BE IN FACILITY GOING TO BE ONE PLACE ONLY FOR THAT? SO FOR THAT FIRST SOFT LAUNCH FROM, UM, FROM APRIL 10TH TO MAY 24TH, THAT'S THE AREA THAT WE IDENTIFIED, UM, TO, TO, TO GO TO FIRST.

AND THEN AFTER THAT WE'LL PUT IT AWAY FOR THE SUMMER OR HAVE THEM MOVE IT BACK TO, RIGHT NOW IT'S STORED AT WINTERS PARK, UM, TOWARDS THE BACK.

AND, UM, IT, WE WON'T USE IT IN THE SUMMERTIME BECAUSE IT'S A METAL STORAGE CONTAINER AND WE HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO, UM, CHILL OUR CHILL US JUST YET.

KNOW HOW IT'S, WE DON'T KNOW.

[00:45:01]

SO, AND IT'S , WE'RE GONNA PICK IT UP AND WE ARE GONNA .

THAT'S WHY THEY HAD THREE PEOPLE.

YES, YES.

WE'RE GONNA PUSH IT.

UM, SO IT'S GOT TO, IT'S LIKE ONE OF THOSE POD LIKE PODS THAT YOU WOULD SEE MAYBE IN SOMEBODY'S DRIVEWAY OR SOMETHING.

IT DOES REQUIRE, UM, A LIFT FORKLIFT TRACKS A FORKLIFT.

IT'S GOT THOSE, UM, THESE, THOSE LITTLE SLOTS RIGHT THERE.

AND IT REQUIRES SOME, SOME TRANSPORT FROM, IT REQUIRES COORDINATION FROM MULTIPLE PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT.

YES.

IS THERE SIGNAGE? WHAT'S THE SIGNAGE? UM, IT, RIGHT NOW IT WAS ACTUALLY PAINTED FOR BETTER BLOCKS.

SO IT DOES SAY CITY OF GARLAND ON IT.

UM, BUT WE WILL GET, LIKE, WE ARE LOOKING AT GETTING, UM, ONE OF THOSE, LIKE A SANDWICH BOARD SIGN TO PUT OUT THERE.

UM, WE'RE LOOKING AT GETTING A RETRACTABLE SIGN TO PUT OUT THERE AS WELL, SO THAT WE WILL HAVE PLENTY.

THEY'LL KNOW IT'S THE LIBRARY SPEAKERS SOUND SYSTEM.

WHY NOTS? THE, WHAT YOU'RE THINKING, , THE BIG LAUNCH HAPPENS, IS THERE, WHAT IS THE WAY, I GUESS THAT YOU'LL DETERMINE WHERE THE NEXT LOCATIONS ARE AND IS THERE A WAY TO, FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD TO REQUEST TO HAVE IT IN THEIR AREA, FOR EXAMPLE, WHAT IS THAT PROCESS GOING TO BE? WE'VE IDENTIFIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT AREAS WITHIN THE CITY THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.

AND AGAIN, WE'RE WORKING WITH THE PARKS AND REC TEAM CUZ IT, IT WORKS BETTER, IT'S EASIER IF IT'S A CITY FACILITY OR A CITY OWNED, UH, PIECE OF PROPERTY THAT WE'RE MOVING TO.

BUT WE'VE GOT, UM, THE SHORT LIST AND IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, UM, IS AVALON PARK, THE RIDGEWOOD AREA, UM, MONTGOMERY PARK.

MM-HMM.

WAS LONG WIND OR WIND, JOYCE WIND, JOYCE, AND I'M MISSING ONE.

I'M MISSING ONE.

BUT, UH, I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA WHAT YOU'RE, YOU'RE SAYING ABOUT, UM, REQUESTING MM-HMM.

MM-HMM.

.

SO FOR THAT, I WOULD SAY, UM, LET US GO BACK AND THINK THROUGH THAT PROCESS AND DEVELOP THAT.

CAUSE I THINK THERE'S, THERE'S ONE THING WE HAVEN'T, UM, BROKEN INTO YET.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS AND NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS MM-HMM.

.

AND THAT'S ONE THING WE REALLY WANT TO, TO WORK ON.

SO, SO IF THERE'S A WAY FOR US TO FIGURE OUT, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A POP-UP LIBRARY AND WHAT DOES THAT POP-UP LIBRARY LOOK LIKE? IS IT A PERIOD OF TIME OR AN EVENT THAT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE WANT TO DEVELOP? AND I, I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA.

SO LET US TAKE THAT BACK AND WE'LL BRING BACK MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THAT IN THE FUTURE.

I WAS ALSO THINKING ON IT FROM THE STANDPOINT OF FILLING OUT A PARTICULAR AREA MM-HMM.

FOR AN EXPANSION AT SOME POINT FOR A PERMANENT LOCATION MM-HMM.

TO KINDA SEE WHAT THE MARKET LOOKS LIKE.

YES.

.

WELL, AND THAT'S, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE REALLY WANT TO SEE WHAT THEIR, WHAT THAT PARTICULAR PART OF THE COMMUNITY'S NEED IS, ARE THEY COMING FOR MORE? WE WILL TRY.

ARE WE WILL BE KEEPING VERY, UM, IN DEPTH STATS WHEN IT COMES TO THE, THE CONTAINER.

BECAUSE WE WANT TO KNOW ARE THEY LOOKING FOR MORE MATERIALS? IS IT TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY, THAT THEY NEED? IS IT PROGRAMMING THAT THEY NEED? WHAT KIND OF SERVICES ARE THEY REALLY ASKING FOR IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA? MM-HMM.

.

YES.

AND PART OF THE, PART OF THE, THE TIMELINE FOR MOVING, IT REALLY HAS TO DO WITH TRANSPORT.

AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING WITH PARKS WITH FOR IS, UH, HOW, HOW OFTEN WE CAN TRANSPORT IT.

IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO, WE'RE TRYING TO COORDINATE WITH, WITH PARKS TO SEE, UM, HOW OFTEN AND, AND WE REALLY WANT TO LEAVE IT FOR AT LEAST WHAT WE SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS WE'RE THINKING.

UM, AT LEAST JUST TO, SO PEOPLE RECOGNIZE US BEING THERE.

UM, THEY KNOW WHAT WE'RE OFFERING.

UM, THEY KNOW THAT WE'RE, THEY'RE, WE WILL BE THERE FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME.

UM, WE DON'T WANNA, WE WON'T JUST PICK UP AND BE GONE ONE DAY.

, THANK YOU.

WORKING.

WOULD YOU ELABORATE ON THE LUCKY DAY CONCEPT OF JUST OFFERING? I I SAY THAT AND I JUST MEAN LIKE, IT'S NOT MATERIALS THAT, UM, THEY'RE GOING TO NO RESERVES, NO RESERVES ON IT.

IT'S JUST, IT'S THERE.

THEY'RE, YAY.

I GOT LUCKY.

I FOUND THIS BOOK THAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR, UM, THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO, TO GET A HOLD OF JUST YET.

IT'S THE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE.

RIGHT, RIGHT.

BUT ALSO HAVING, UM, THE MATERIALS OFFERED IT, IT MAY CHANGE DEPENDING ON WHERE THE MM-HMM.

, WHERE THE CONTAINER'S LOCATED AND WHO'S COMING TO THE CONTAINER.

SO IS

[00:50:01]

IT MOSTLY KIDS? WE MAY HAVE A LOT OF THINGS FOR KIDS.

IS IT SENIORS? WE MAY HAVE SOMETHING GEARED MORE SPANISH SPEAKING.

WE MAY HAVE MATERIALS IN SPANISH LANGUAGE.

SO IT'S REALLY, IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY ON BOTH ENDS FOR, UH, THE PUBLIC TO GET TO KNOW US AND FOR US TO, TO BETTER KNOW OUR, OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR PUBLIC AND WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR.

YES.

THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

UM, ARE THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE, THE CONTAINER? BECAUSE WE HAVE ONE MORE , BUT WAIT, , THERE'S MORE, THERE IS MORE WITH THE CONTAINER, YOU ALSO GET .

WELL, AND JUST LIKE, LIKE I SAID, THERE'S LOTS OF THINGS INSIDE THE CONTAINER THAT THEY'RE, THAT THEY ARE LETTING US KEEP INSIDE THE CONTAINER AND USE WHILE IT'S OUT THERE.

THERE'S, UM, SOME SMALL BISTRO TABLES AND CHAIRS THAT WE WILL PUT OUT.

THERE'S, UM, THERE'S SOME BENCHES.

WE MAY NOT LEAVE EVERYTHING IN THERE BECAUSE THERE ARE ONLY THREE OF US THAT WILL BE STAFFING IT.

UM, AND I DON'T, IT'S A LOT OF , A LOT OF HARP LIFTING, BUT, UM, THERE IS A LOT IN THERE THAT, THAT WE ARE GONNA BE ABLE TO USE.

UM, AND THEN THE SUMMER READING ADVENTURE, UH, WE WILL BE, THIS YEAR WE ARE, WE ARE WANTING TO TAKE THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM, UM, OUTSIDE OF THE LIBRARY WALLS.

SO WE, UM, SUMMER READING IS GOING TO BE RUNNING FROM JUNE TO JULY.

AND, UM, WE ARE IDENTIFYING SOME TENTATIVE LOCATIONS, UM, THROUGHOUT GARLAND THAT WE CAN TAKE THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM AND OFFER THOSE PROGRAMS, UM, OUTSIDE OF THE, THE PHYSICAL WALLS OF THE LIBRARY.

UM, AND AT THOSE, UM, LOCATIONS, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SIGN UP FOR THE SUMMER READING ADVENTURE.

THEY WILL, UM, WILL HAVE LIBRARY CARD SIGNUPS AND THEN WE'LL HAVE SOME PROGRAMS WE'LL OFFER SOME OF THE PROGRAMMING, UM, UH, THAT WE ARE OFFERING AT THE, THE PHYSICAL LOCATIONS.

UM, AND SOME, THE, SOME OF THE LOCATIONS THAT WE HAVE IDENTIFIED, AND THESE ARE TENTATIVE, I'M STILL WORKING THROUGH SOME MEETINGS, UM, BUT LAKEWOOD BREWERY FOR THE ADULT, UM, FOR SOME ADULT CROWDS.

UM, WE WERE THINKING, UM, POSSIBLE, UM, ADULT GAME NIGHT, UM, MAYBE LIKE A PAINT AND SIP KIND OF THING FOR, UM, FOR THAT AREA.

UM, THEN WE ARE, THEN WE HAVE CARVER SENIOR CENTER, AND THAT WILL BE FOR THE SENIORS.

AND I JUST MET WITH CARVER, UM, JERICH FROM CARVER LAST WEEK, AND SHE'S VERY, THEY ARE VERY EXCITED.

UM, AND I'M VERY EXCITED TO, TO GET, UM, START SOME PROGRAMMING AND, AND VISITS THERE.

AND THEN, UM, AUDUBON REC CENTER FOR THE KIDS AND FAMILIES.

UM, AND THEN WE'LL, WE'LL, WE'RE STILL LOOKING FOR AT SOME ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS AS WELL, BUT WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO TAKE SOME OF THE PROGRAMMING OUTSIDE OF THE LIBRARY, ESPECIALLY WITH, UM, BEING IN A TEMPORARY FACILITY FOR, FOR CENTRAL.

UM, THERE WILL STILL BE PROGRAMMING THERE, BUT IT'LL GIVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO REACH A A, A FARTHER OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY.

OKAY.

ARE THESE PROGRAMS LIMITED TO CARD HOLDERS OR, OR ARE THEY AVAILABLE TO PRE CARD HOLDERS? , THEY'RE AVAILABLE TO PRE CARD HOLDERS.

UM, JUST ANYBODY WHO WE'RE STILL TRYING TO WORK OUT THE DETAILS.

IT MAY BE MORE OF AN, UM, RSVP KIND OF THING.

UM, WE'RE HOLDING THIS PROGRAM AT AUDUBON ON THIS DATE.

UM, RSVP IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND, UM, JUST TO GET SOME OF THE NUMBERS, BUT NO, WE'RE NOT LIMITING IT TO, TO CARDHOLDERS.

WONDERFUL.

YEAH.

ANY QUESTIONS ON SUMMER READING? I GUESS SUMMER IS CLOSER THAN READING LIST.

THE READING LIST? UM, WELL THE, SO THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM KIND OF HAS TWO, IT HAS TWO COMPONENTS.

IT'S GOT WHAT THEY CHOOSE.

IT'S GOT THE READING, THE READING COMPONENT, WHICH THIS YEAR THEY WILL BE, UM, SETTING THEIR OWN GOALS.

AND THEN IT'S GOT THE PROGRAMMING COMPONENT THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT.

AND THE, BUT THE THEME FOR THIS SUMMER IS, UM, ALTOGETHER NOW MM-HMM.

.

SO WE ARE LOOKING MAYBE STARTING LIKE MAYBE A COMMUNITY ART PROJECT AT SOME OF THE LOCATIONS THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE DEPENDING ON THE SCHEDULE THAT THEY, UM, AGREE TO LET US COME AND DO THE PROGRAM THERE.

DEPENDING ON, UM, HOW OFTEN WE ARE ABLE TO GO TO THAT LOCATION.

MAYBE STARTING AN ART PROJECT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER AND WORKING ON THAT THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AND FINISHING IT SOME, SO THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO, WELL I WILL ADD THAT THIS IS JUST THE OUTREACH PORTION.

MM-HMM.

, KATHLEEN WILL BE COMING BACK IN APRIL OR MAY WITH A MUCH MORE IN DEPTH LOOK AT THE SUMMER PROGRAMMING, UM, OR

[00:55:01]

SUMMER PROGRAM, UH, FOR ALL LOCATIONS.

MM-HMM.

, I WILL AS PER USER USUAL.

OKAY.

IT'S EXCITING THOUGH.

YES.

YES.

UM, ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTAINER OR SUMMER READING OR ANYTHING THAT WE JUST ADD TO SEE HOW MANY SIGNUPS YOU GET FOR NEW CARDS AND THE A MM-HMM.

? MM-HMM.

? YES.

YES.

OKAY.

I, THAT'S ONE OF THE, THAT'S ONE OF THE PARTS THAT I LIKE ABOUT OUTREACH IS TAKING THE LIBRARY CARD SIGNUPS OUT TO THE, TO THEM BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE REALLY, ARE SURPRISED THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO GET A CARD.

UM, AND, AND THAT IT'S FREE.

YES, IT IS FREE.

THAT'S A BIG THING.

MM-HMM.

.

MM-HMM.

.

YES.

THANK YOU MORGAN.

THAT WAS VERY WELCOME.

VERY INFORMATIVE, VERY EXCITING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING ME.

THANK YOU.

HEY, AND THEN NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA LIBRARY PROGRAMMING.

YES.

ALL RIGHT.

UM, SO I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT TWO PROGRAMS, UM, THAT WE HAVE HAD IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT HAVE BEEN REALLY AMAZING PROGRAMS. SO WE, WE OFFER, I'M VERY BIASED WITH THIS.

I THINK WE OFFER AMAZING PROGRAMS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, BUT STAFF HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED, UM, AT THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX, TRYING SOME DIFFERENT THINGS THAT MAYBE WE HAVEN'T TRIED IN YEARS PAST.

AND THEY'RE REALLY, I THINK, KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK AND, AND PROVIDING SOME PROGRAMS THAT ARE WELL ATTENDED AND THAT THE COMMUNITY ARE RESPONDING TO ONE OF GETTING EXCITED ABOUT IT AND THAT THEY'RE GETTING YES.

THE, THE STAFF ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

THAT WAS, YES.

UM, ONE OF THOSE PROGRAMS, NUIS GWEN TALKED ABOUT THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROGRAM THAT THE NORTH GARLAND BRANCH HOSTED.

AND THAT WAS A GREAT PROGRAM, UM, BETWEEN THE LIBRARY AND THE LANDMARK MUSEUM OF BEING ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER, UM, TO PROVIDE NOT ONLY THE EXHIBIT, BUT THEN WORKING WITH, UH, THE GARLAND CHAPTER OF THE NAACP.

AND, UH, MR. MCNEIL WHO CAME AND DID A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION, UM, THAT WAS VERY GARLAND SPECIFIC, IF YOU WENT TO THAT PROGRAM OR VISITED THE EXHIBIT.

IT, IT WAS VERY INTERESTING.

AND I, I CAN SPEAK FOR MYSELF, I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE HISTORY OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN GARLAND.

IT WAS, IT WAS FANTASTIC.

WE HAD ABOUT 98 PEOPLE WHO CAME, UM, TO THE PRESENTATION THAT NIGHT, WHICH WAS WONDERFUL.

MEAN, IT WAS ALMOST A FULL HOUSE OF PEOPLE.

UM, THE OTHER, UH, I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE NOW ASKING , BARBARA AND JESSICA, WHAT DO THEY HAVE PLANNED FOR NEXT YEAR? BUT THEY'VE GOT IDEAS.

THEY'RE, THEY'RE ALREADY RUNNING DOWN IDEAS FOR THAT.

UM, AND THAT WAS AT NORTH, AT SOUTH, UH, KATIE AND HER TEAM PUT TOGETHER AGAIN WORKING WITH CODE MASTER GARDENERS AND, UM, THE GREENHOUSE, UH, THE PARKS PROGRAM, A BE HAPPY POLLINATOR GARDENING PROGRAM.

AND THEY HAD, UM, 45 PLUS PEOPLE WHO REGISTERED AND ATTENDED THE PROGRAM, LEARNED ABOUT HOW THEY CAN CULTIVATE THEIR OWN GARDENS, HAD CODE THERE TO BE ABLE TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THAT, YOU KNOW, THIS TYPE OF PLANT OR THIS TYPE OF PLANT MAY BE BETTER SUITED FOR YOUR LAWN AND YOU MAY NOT, YOU CAN AVOID, UM, OH, WHAT'S IT, YOU MAY BE A BETTER NEIGHBOR IN HAVING THIS TYPE OF PLANT RATHER THAN THIS TYPE OF PLANT.

SO IT WAS REALLY WELL ATTENDED.

PEOPLE WERE EXCITED AND HAPPY.

THEY LEARNED A LOT THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND EVERYONE ENDED UP WITH, UM, BLUE SAGE TO TAKE HOME AND PLANT AT THE END OF THE EVENT.

SO THESE ARE THE TYPES OF THINGS THAT WE'RE LEARNING ABOUT.

WE DO GREAT WITH KIDS, PRO KIDS, KID PROGRAMS, AOT, AND I'VE, I'VE TOLD DELL ABOUT THE, THE TURNOUT THAT WE'RE GETTING.

BUT THESE TWO PROGRAMS ARE REALLY AMAZING PROGRAMS THAT I THINK, YOU KNOW, BY THE NUMBERS THAT CAME REALLY SHOW WHAT, WHAT, WHAT OUR COMMUNITY'S INTERESTED IN AND WHAT THEY'RE WILLING TO COME AND PARTICIPATE IN.

SO THEY'LL BE MORE LIKE THIS IN THE FUTURE.

NOW I'M GONNA HAND IT OVER TO KATHLEEN FOR BIG ART, BIG ART DAY.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE UP THERE? BIG ART DAY, .

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

SO, UM, BIG ART DAY.

UH, THE CITY HAS PARTICIPATED IN GOING BACK SEVERAL YEARS.

THIS WOULD BE THE, UH, LIBRARY'S SECOND YEAR TO PARTICIPATE

[01:00:01]

IN, UH, BIG ART DAY.

AND IT IS A SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL PRODUCED IN COLLABORATION WITH GARLAND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION, INCORPORATED, G I S D VISIT GARLAND.

AND WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OF GARLAND.

AND IT IS A SHOWCASE OF, OF ART AND ARTIST YOU CAN VIEW AND PURCHASE ART.

THERE ARE HANDS-ON CRAFTS AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND THE LIBRARY, UH, IS GETTING INVOLVED WITH THEIR OWN ART DAY.

UH, EVENTS, UH, WE HAVE ONE, THERE'S, UH, SOMETHING DIFFERENT AT EACH LOCATION AND SOME THERE'S, UH, FROM FAMILIES OR, UH, YOUNG CHILDREN OR EVEN ADULTS DEPENDING ON WHICH LOCATION.

UM, AT THE, AT THE CENTRAL LOCATION, I'LL START THERE.

AT THE CENTRAL LOCATION, AND THIS IS APRIL 1ST, BUT WE DO HAVE A COUPLE OF EVENTS THAT ARE, UH, MARCH, ACTUALLY, I GUESS JUST ONCE ONE IS MARCH 25TH.

IT, UH, STARTS THEN, UM, BECAUSE THEY WANT THE, THE ACTUAL ART TO BE COMPLETED BY ART DAY.

BUT, UH, AT CENTRAL ADULTS 18 AND OLDER CAN STOP BY AND GET A, UH, THREE BY THREE INCH CANVAS AND PAINT THEIR OWN ART AND HAVE IT ON DISPLAY.

AND IT'S SOMETHING SIMILAR TO WHAT SOUTH IS DOING.

AND THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT AT SOUTH IT'S GONNA BE TINY ART FOR BIG ART DAY.

AND IT IS FOR, UH, CHILDREN AGES SIX TO, TO 17.

AND THE SAME THING.

THEY GET A THREE BY THREE INCH CANVAS.

THEY PAINT THEIR OWN ARTISTIC, UH, DESIGN, AND THEN WE'RE ASKING THEM TO LEAVE IT WITH US.

WE FOR THE, UH, DURATION, UH, FOR MONTH.

AND THEN WE'LL PUT IT ON DISPLAY AND WE'LL HAVE OUR OWN THERE.

THEY CAN COME SEE THEIR ART DISPLAY AND THEN AT THE END THEY WILL BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP AT WALNUT CREEK BRANCH, GOING BACK TO THE ALTOGETHER NOW.

AND THEN ALSO, UH, COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY UNITY ART DISPLAY.

THEY WILL TRACE OUTLINES, UH, PARTICIPANTS WILL TRACE OUTLINES OF THEIR HAND, AND THEN IT'LL BE INCLUDED IN A DISPLAY AND IT'S, UH, TO DIS TO CELEBRATE KINDNESS, FRIENDSHIP, AND UNITY.

SO IT'LL BE A HAND WITH DESIGNS, HOWEVER THEY WANT TO COLOR OR, AND HAVE A DISPLAY OF THE HANDS ALL TOGETHER.

THE, AT, UM, NORTH GARLAND BRANCH, THEY WILL USE FEATHER, USE FEATHERS AND WATERCOLORS AND PAINT THE, THEY WILL PAINT THE FEATHERS WITH WATERCOLORS AND THEN THE, THE FEATHERS WILL BE MOUNTED ON FOAM BOARD AND INCLUDED IN A SCULPTURE DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE WINGS.

SO WE ARE HOPING EVERYBODY COMES OUT.

WE HAD A LOT OF FUN THE LAST TIME WE DID IT AT, AT CENTRAL, UH, WE HAD A CHALK 3D CHALK ARTIST AND THAT STAYED UP FOR A LONG TIME AND PEOPLE REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

UH, THE DESIGN WAS ON OUR PORTICO AND WHAT WAS IT, IT WAS AUBREY TOO.

LOCAL SHOP HORSE.

THERE YOU GO.

.

UM, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF, UH, IF Y'ALL HAVE SEEN THE DIFFERENT 3D DESIGNS, THEY LOOK, IF YOU'RE STANDING OVER 'EM, IT LOOKS FLAT, BUT IF YOU'RE AT THE RIGHT ANGLE, THEY LOOK LIKE IT'S A WATERFALL OR SOMETHING.

SO THIS PEOPLE REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING IT HAPPEN CUZ THE PERSON, UH, DID IT ALL DAY, UH, SKETCHED IT ALL DAY AND THEN IT WAS THERE FOR A LONG TIME FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY.

AND WE ENJOY IT.

AND I THINK, UH, WE, WE ENJOY HAVING THE EVENTS.

WE ENJOY HAVING THE PEOPLE THERE, AND WE ALSO ENJOY BEING PART OF A CITY EVENT LIKE THIS AND SCHOOL G I S D TOO.

SO.

ANY QUESTIONS? NO.

COME JOIN US.

IT'S A BIG DAY.

IT IS FUN.

WHAT
