WE HAVE NEW RESTAURANTS. NEW SERVICE ORIENTED BUSINESSES AND ALMOST $30 MILLION STREET AND PARK RENOVATION. AND THAT HAS REALLY CATAPULTED DOWNTOWN GARLAND INTO BEING A DESTINATION. UM, EVERY PARKING SPOT COUNTS. IF WE HAD 15 MORE SPOTS IN THAT LOT, AND EACH CAR HAD FOUR PEOPLE IN IT. THAT'S THE POTENTIAL FOR 60 PEOPLE CYCLING THROUGH MANY TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. HMM WE'LL TAKE THOSE 60 PEOPLE. WE WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE THEM, UM I DID SOME MATH. AND I DO THAT, AND I WALK A LOT. IN THE HEAT. UM BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO LEAVE SPACES THERE ARE THERE ARE NOT PLENTY OF SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO PARK IN. I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW WHERE PEOPLE ARE. SO THAT'S WHAT I DECIDED TO DO MY PROJECT ON SPECIFICALLY ON HOW CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. UM I BELIEVE OUR COMMUNITY CAN DO BETTER TO ADDRESS THE MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS OF OUR COMMUNITY. AND I FEEL THAT WHEN OUR GOVERNMENT AND OUR COMMUNITY BAND TOGETHER WE CAN REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE . SO UM, WITH THAT DIRECT LINK OF CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS AND MENTAL ILLNESS. WE ALREADY KNOW THE HOMELESS DON'T TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THEMSELVES, BUT WITH CHRONIC MENTAL ILLNESS IT WORSENS AND I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A POSSIBLE WAY TO FIX THAT.

AND I BELIEVE THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN DEFINITELY HELP NOW I'M NOT ASKING FOR LIKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. I'M NOT EVEN SUGGESTING THAT BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND. IT'S A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX UP POPULATION THAT DOESN'T HAVE STABILITY DOESN'T HAVE INCOME. BUT WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT A LOT OF OUR HOMELESS SHELTERS DO NOT OFFER MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT FOR OUR DISENFRANCHISED COMMUNITIES. SO I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER THAT WE DO DO THAT AND THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WAY TO SPEND MONEY POSSIBLE. SO UM, I BELIEVE THAT WE COULD CREATE A PROGRAM. THAT. UM USERS CONTINUED EDUCATION CREDITS THAT MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE ALREADY HAVE TO GET SO WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN FOR THE GOVERNMENT IS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO GET THAT APPROVED WHICH COST THERE'S FEES, OF COURSE, AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A POSITION AT WHATEVER, UM, HOMELESS SHELTER YOU DECIDE TO INVEST IN. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, YOU WOULD HAVE VOLUNTEER BASIS, PEOPLE WOULD SIGN UP AND THEY WOULD GET CONTINUED EDUCATION CREDITS THROUGH THAT PROGRAM.

THEY WOULD GO IN. THEY COULD DO GROUP SESSIONS, INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS OR EVEN MID MANAGEMENT , AND I THINK THAT COULD BE A POSSIBLE WAY TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION AND ALSO SHOW THAT COMMUNITY THAT WE CARE ABOUT THEM.
