LOVE BEYOND CHRISTMAS IS THEIR HOLIDAY THEME AND COMMITMENT TO PROVIDE HOPE AND HELP TO NEIGHBORS IN NEED 365 DAYS A YEAR.

THIS YEAR'S RED CATTLE CAMPAIGN RUNS FROM EARLY NOVEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER 31ST, WHETHER IT'S FOOD FOR HUNGRY FAMILIES, VITAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND IN FOR INDIVIDUALS SEEKING AFFORDABLE HOUSING, OR THOSE NAVIGATING THE CHALLENGES OF POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS, ALL FUNDS RAISED SUPPORT LOCAL PROGRAMS AND INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO FIND THEMSELVES FACING UNCERTAINTY AND HOPELESSNESS.

THE GOAL IS TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS IN GARLAND AND ACROSS NORTH TEXAS THROUGH FUNDS RAISED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM.

AS WE CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE THROUGH THE PANDEMIC INFLATION, CIVIL UNREST, AND NATURAL DISASTERS AND UPROOT FAMILIES, WE FIND COURAGE AND STRENGTH AND LOVE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

AS MAYOR LAME STATED, THE SALVATION ARMY IS SHOWING THAT LOVE EXISTS BEYOND THE MOST DIFFICULT SITUATIONS, AND WE APPRECIATE THE OFFER TO BE HERE TONIGHT TO SHARE HOW YOU CAN JOIN US EACH YEAR.

NORTH TEXAS, MORE THAN 11.6 MILLION MEALS ARE SERVED AT THE HUNGRY.

LAST MONTH OUT OF THE GARLAND SALVATION ARMY ALONE, 550 INDIVIDUALS WERE FED THROUGH OUR FOOD PANTRY, AND AN ADDITIONAL FOUR 50 MEALS WERE SERVED THROUGH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH CLOS.

GARLAND CORE COMMUNITY CENTER SERVES INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES LIVING IN POVERTY WHO LIVE IN SIX CITIES, AS MARILYN MENTIONED, WITH THE, UH, THE, THE, UH, MAYORS THAT ARE, WE'RE GOING TO ENCOURAGE TO, UH, START A BATTLE OF THE BANDS, IF YOU WILL, , UH, YOU KNOW, UH, BUT, UH, GARLAND MURPHY, ROCKWALL, LANCE SAXY, AND WILEY THROUGH OUR ONSITE FOOD PANTRY, EMERGENCY RENT AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS, FINANCIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS, INCLEMENT WEATHER, SHELTER, CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE, AND SPIRITUAL AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT.

TO BE SPECIFIC, UH, THE ACREAGE OF THE OVERALL SITE IS JUST OVER 20 ACRES.

IT IS ZONED, UH, WITHIN PD DISTRICT, UH, NUMBER 23 DASH 15.

IT'S A FAIRLY RECENT NUMBER.

UM, IF YOU RECALL THE UM, MEDICAL CLINIC THAT WAS ADDED TO THIS NORTH GARLAND LOCATION RECENTLY, UM, THEY'RE DOING ONE MORE ADDITION, UM, JUST KIND OF ADDING SPACE FOR THE GARDEN CENTER.

UM, THE LOCATION OF COURSE IS SHOWN HERE, NORTH LIN AVENUE, JUST SOUTH OF UH, PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH TURNPIKE AND OUTLINED HERE AND

EXPANSION, I'LL SHOW THE SITE PLAN, BUT IT'S ESSENTIALLY EXPANDING THE GARDEN CENTER THERE ON KIND OF THE NORTHEAST SIDE OF THE BUILDING.

UH, THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN IDENTIFIES THIS SHOPPING CENTER AREAS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, AND THE EXISTING USE AS WELL AS THE PROPOSAL, UM, ALIGNS WITH THAT, UH, DESIGNATION, FIND IT COMPATIBLE WITH THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, WHICH LARGELY ALIGNS WITH UM, COMMERCIAL CENTERS AND SHOPPING CENTERS AND WHATNOT.

UM, REGARDING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN, UM, THE SUBJECT SITE IS CONSIDERED A LARGE FORMAT RETAIL USE.

THE PROPOSAL WILL EXPAND AND CO ACCOMMODATE UH, THE EXISTING WALMART, WHICH GENERATES UM, SIGNIFICANT SALES TAX FOR THE CITY AND UH, SHOW THE SITE PLAN.

UM, THERE'S THE KIND OF OVERALL PROJECT AREA BUT UM, OUTLINE IN BLUE THERE, THE BOUNDARIES OF THE EXISTING BUILDING AND AND GREEN THERE IS THE PROPOSED EXPANSION REALLY JUST JOGGING ABOUT ABOUT 20, 25 FEET OR SO.

UM, THEY'LL, SOME PARKING SPACES WILL BE REMOVED, UM, KIND OF ON THE SIDE THERE TO ACCOMMODATE THE BUILDING AS WELL AS THE DRIVE AISLE AND FIRE LANE.

BUT UM, THE SIDE IS STILL SUFFICIENTLY PARKED.

UM, HERE'S SOME, HERE'S KIND OF A PHOTO ELEVATION OF THE FRONT OF THE EXISTING WALMART, UH, GARDEN CENTER AND THE PROPOSED ELEVATION.

REALLY NOT MUCH OF A CHANGE, JUST KIND OF ADDING ANOTHER SEGMENT THERE OF ORNAMENTAL FENCING AND UH, MASONRY COLUMNS.

AND SIMILARLY ON THE SIDE THERE, THERE'S KIND OF A PHOTO OF THE EXISTING BUILDING AND IT'S REALLY JUST KIND OF JOGGING OUT, UM, THE FENCING AND, AND GARDEN CENTER AREA.

SO REALLY NOT MUCH OF AN ELEVATION CHANGE OTHER THAN JUST THE SIZE DIFFERENCE.

AND STAFF'S RECOMMENDATION IS APPROVAL OF THIS REQUEST AND THE PLAN COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL AS WELL.

AND, UH, WITH THAT MAYOR, THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT MAILED OUT 93 NOTIFICATION LETTERS ON THIS CASE AND WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY RESPONSES.
