THEY WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE STEVEN FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO NIG HIS NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE CITY OF GARLAND.

IN 2018, STEVEN MOVED TO HILLSIDE ON THE LAKE.

THIS IS A NEIGHBORHOOD OF ABOUT 63 HOMES, UH, THAT IS NEXT TO THE OLD LAKE POINT MARINA.

SHORTLY AFTER MOVING TO THE AREA, HE NOTICED THERE WAS CRIME ALONG THE LAKESIDE, INCLUDING PROPERTY INVASIONS, CAR BURGLARIES, HOUSE BREAK-INS, VANDALISM AND LITTERING.

BUT HE REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE STATUS QUO, DECLARING THAT THIS IS NO WAY TO LIVE SEEING THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO WORK TOGETHER.

HE VISITED EVERY HOUSE AND DURING THESE VISITS THAT THE, AND THE DURING THESE VISITS IS HOW THE NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH, UH, WAS BORN.

AND WHEREAS HE HAS ASSISTED RESIDENTS IN INSTALLING SECURITY CAMERAS AND SYSTEMS.

ADDITIONALLY, STEVEN SUCCESSFULLY PETITIONED FOR A FENCE ALONG THE LAKE, EFFECTIVELY REDUCING THE FOOT TRAFFIC THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

AND THE IMPACT WAS REMARKABLE, UH, WITHIN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, UH, EXPERIENCING A CRIME FREE STREAK OF 25 MONTHS.

AND WHEREAS STEVEN'S COMMITMENT EXTENDS BEYOND CRIME PREVENTION, HE CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE HOMEOWNER'S ASSOCIATION AND IS A MEMBER OF THE CITY'S CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE THAT IS MEETING RIGHT NOW.

HE IS AN ADVOCATE FOR COMMUNITY PRIDE AND OWNERSHIP, AND WAS A FINALIST IN THE 2023 WHO'S WHO, UH, IN WHO'S WHO IN NEIGHBORHOODS OF THE YEAR AWARD.

HE ENCOURAGES HIS NEIGHBORS TO TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR HOMES AND YARDS, FOSTERING A SENSE OF SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.

AND SO, WHEREAS THE, THE GARLAND CITY COUNCIL WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE STEVEN FOR HIS EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP AND COMMITMENT TO MAKING HILLSIDE ON THE LAKE A SAFER, MORE VIBRANT COMMUNITY.

IN APRIL, IN MAY, I WAS OUTTA TOWN, SO NO WORK GOT COMPLETED.

AT THE END OF MARCH, WE WERE HERE IN THE CITY HALL AND IT WAS STATED THAT REPAIRS WOULD BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF JUNE.

THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN, THEY WERE NOT.

AND WHEN I CAME HOME FROM BUSINESS IN JUNE, THE CAB DRIVER DROVE OFF WITH MY DRIVER'S LICENSE, MY LUGGAGE AND EVERYTHING ELSE, A SOCIAL WORKER FOR THE CITY OF GARLAND.

MELISSA SULLIVAN WAS ASSIGNED TO ME IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR TO HELP FACILITATE THE REPAIRS AS I THOUGHT ON THE HOME WITHOUT A PHONE, WITHOUT A DRIVER'S LICENSE, I COULD NOT GET ANYTHING DONE.

IN AUGUST, MY WATER WAS SHUT OFF AFTER I HAD ALREADY VISITED GARLAND POWER AND LIGHT.

WHEN I WENT BACK THERE, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS ORDERED BY SEAN WEINSTEIN OF CODE COMPLIANCE.

OVER 10 CALLS WERE MADE TO HIM AND I DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM HIM.

I DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO MY LOCKING MAILBOX BECAUSE A GUY BY THE NAME OF RDA ELK COUNTY, HAS THE KEY TO MY MAILBOX.

THIS MAN WAS CRIMINALLY TRESPASSED FROM MY PROPERTY AND HAS RETURNED TO MY PROPERTY AT LEAST 10 TIMES, STEALING STUFF FROM ME.

ON NOVEMBER 2ND, A NOTICE WENT ON MY DOOR SAYING THAT MY HOME WOULD BE DEMOLISHED ON THE 14TH.

ON NOVEMBER 3RD, I WOULD MANAGE TO GET SEAN WEINSTEIN ON THE PHONE.

HE SAID AS LONG AS REPAIRS WERE MADE, IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN.

I WENT INTO THE HOSPITAL, I INFORMED MR. WEINSTEIN VIA PHONE MESSAGE, WHATEVER AT MY HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED.

THE CITY OF GARLAND MADE ME HOMELESS THANKS TO MELISSA SULLIVAN AND SEAN WEINSTEIN.

I CAME HERE DIRECTLY FROM A DEALERSHIP TRYING TO GET A VEHICLE.

AND WHAT COULD NOT HAPPEN WAS THE FACT THAT MY AWARD LETTER FOR DISABILITY IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.

YOU DEMOLISHED A HOME THAT DID NOT NEED TO BE DEMOLISHED AND MADE ME HOMELESS.

AND DESPITE MY SEVERAL CALLS TO THE PEOPLE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE TALKING TO, I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK.

NOW WHAT DO I DO? WE'RE

AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING BUT THE CLOTHES ON MY BACK AND WHATEVER IS IN MY ROOM.

I GOT A NEW BANK ACCOUNT ON THE 27TH OF OCTOBER.

DEMOLITION WAS APPROVED OCTOBER 17TH.

WHY DID SEAN WEINSTEIN TELL ME THAT I COULD MAKE REPAIRS WHEN DEMOLITION WAS ALREADY APPROVED? WHY WAS I LIED TO AND MISLED AND SOMEONE TUCKED A HOMELESS SHELTER PAMPHLET IN MY DOOR? THE PROPERTY WAS VALUED BY DEC AD AT $267,000.

AND IF YOU ESTIMATE THE PROPERTY THAT WAS INSIDE OVER 35 YEARS ON A HOME THAT WAS PAID FOR TO BE MY RETIREMENT, IN LIGHT OF MY DISABILITY, YOU'RE LOOKING AT OVER A MILLION DOLLARS.

I'M A HIGHLY EDUCATED PERSON.

I WORKED MY WAY THROUGH SCHOOL.

I DID NOT DESERVE THIS.
