AND WHEREAS THE CITY OF GARLAND IS A CULTURALLY DIVERSE CITY THAT PROVIDES MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ITS RESIDENTS TO THRIVE AND ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF WORKING AT ONE OF OUR BUSINESSES OR HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MANUFACTURERS, PLAYING IN NEARBY PARKS ARE WORSHIPING IN OUR AREA CHURCHES, SOME OF WHICH HAVE EXISTED FOR MORE THAN 100 AND 50 YEARS. AND WHEREAS THE IN THESE CHALLENGING TIMES IN WHICH WE LIVE, OUR CITY HAS BEEN BLESSED. TO HAVE GREAT LEADERSHIP AND HAS BEEN FORTIFIED BY THE FAITH IN OUR OF OUR COMMUNITY. AND WHEREAS THE AREA PLANNERS OF THE GARLAND NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER HAVE AGREED ON THE THEME THIS YEAR OF LIGHT UP THE WORLD LIFT UP THE WORLD LIGHT UP THE WORLD. AND WHEREAS PRAYER HA HAS SUSTAINED AND WILL SUSTAIN OUR CITY BY PROVIDING HOPE AND LIGHT WHEN LIFE IS DARK AND GLOOMY AND PEACE AND COMFORT IN CRISIS, SUCH AS THE DESTRUCTION OF TORNADOES, FLOODS, COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ECONOMIC DOWNTURNS.

AND WHEREAS THE COALITION OF OVER 20 GARLAND CHURCHES OF VARIOUS DENOMINATIONS ARE INVITING RESIDENTS OF ALL AGES TO PRAY FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FROM 7 P.M. TO 8:30 P.M. AT LVAN BAPTIST CHURCH ON THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, THURS. MAY 2ND AND WHEREAS CITIZENS OF GARLAND ARE ALSO REQUESTED TO PAUSE FOR ONE MINUTE BEGINNING AT 12 NOON ON THURSDAY, MAY 2ND TO PRAY SPECIFICALLY FOR A OR QUIETLY REFLECT ON THE WELL BEING OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS AND CIVIC LEADERS, THE SUSTAINABILITY OF OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES, THE MENTAL , SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH OF OUR CITIZENS AND STRENGTH OF OUR INSTITUTIONS. AND WHEREAS THE WEEK OF APRIL 21ST THROUGH 27 2024 HAS BEEN DESIGNATED NATIONALLY AS VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEK TO RECOGNIZE THE HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND PASSION OF VOLUNTEERS AND NATIONAL SERVICE MEMBERS THROUGHOUT OUR NATION, AND WHEREAS THE CITY OF GARLAND WISHES TO RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTEERING IN HONOR OF THE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY OUR DEDICATED VOLUNTEER FORCE BY COMMEMORATING VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEK AND WHEREAS THE CITY SUPPORTS AND THANKS UH, THOSE WHO GENEROUSLY LEND THEIR TIME TALENT, VOICE AND RESOURCES TO KEEP GARLAND A SAFE AND CLEAN COMMUNITY FOR ALL TO ENJOY. AND WHEREAS THE CITY ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO STAND UP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE, WHETHER JOINING A VOLUNTEER EVENT OR SHOWING SUPPORT FOR A LOCAL ORGANIZATION , AND WHEREAS VOLUNTEER INITIATIVES CREATE A WATERFALL OF BENEFITS, INCLUDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, WORKFORCE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PRESTIGIOUS RECOGNITION. SUCH AS THE OLD GROWTH, FOREST NETWORK INDUCTION AND THE GOVERNOR'S COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. PLEASE SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR VOLUNTEERS. I WANTED TO COME AND SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS IN THE CITY OF GARLAND. I KNOW THIS IS JUST A SPRINKLING OF SOME OF THE GROUPS THAT VOLUNTEER IN OUR CITY. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF ORGANIZATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE BENEFIT OF OUR CITY. UM, BUT I ALSO WANT TO PAY SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO THE PRESERVATION SOCIETY OF CREEK FOREST AND THEIR INDUCTION TO THE NATIONAL OAK GROWTH FOREST NETWORK RECENTLY AND KEEP GARLAND BEAUTIFUL FOR THE RECENT WINNINGS OF THE GOVERNOR'S COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. IT IS A VERY BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE WHAT COMES FORTH OF IT. UM, WE ALSO HAVE SOME VOLUNTEERS FROM OUR ABIGAIL PARKER MEMORIAL GROUP THAT JUST DID A BIG CLEAN UP RECENTLY AND SOME FROM SKATE PARK RESPECT. THEY WERE ALSO SPOTLIGHTED IN A SKATING MAGAZINE RECENTLY FOR THEIR, UH, PIONEERING INITIATIVES HERE IN GARLAND PARKS, SO ALL OF THESE GROUPS ARE BRINGING ATTENTION TO GARLAND AND VERY POSITIVE. EXCELLENT WAYS. UM WE DO HAVE A BIG CLEAN UP COMING UP IN MAY. THEY DON'T THE DUCK CREEK LITTER CLEANUP IS GONNA BE ON SATURDAY.

WE INTERVIEWED MULTIPLE DEVELOPERS WHO HAVE KIND OF RUN THROUGH THE PROCESS, BOTH VETERAN ONES AND BRAND NEW ONES AND LARGE SCALE SMALL SCALE AND, UM, GOT SOME GREAT FEEDBACK FROM THEM. UM AND THEN, UH, WENT BACK TO DEVELOPMENT SERVICES COMMITTEE WITH SOME OPTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS, AND, UH, ULTIMATELY IT UH, AS YOU STATED MAYOR WAS REPORTED TO THE COUNCIL IN DECEMBER AND WAS DIRECTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL TO PROCEED FORWARD. SO THE PLANNING COMMISSION WAS BRIEFED IN JANUARY 8TH JUST TO KIND OF GIVE THEM A HEADS UP ON WHAT'S COMING AND WHAT WAS DIRECTED BY COUNSEL AND THEN IT OFFICIALLY WENT TOO TH. UH UH, AS A HEARING ON MARCH 25TH, AND THEY HAVE PASSED IT ALONG. THIS COMMON AREA IS MEANT TO CREATE OPPORTUNITY FOR CONNECTIONS WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL STRUCTURE, ALLOWING FOR RESIDENTS, UH, RESIDENCE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SIT AND GATHER WITH NATURAL LIGHT AND AIR.
