THEY GOTTA PUT IN [00:00:01] A LITTLE BIT OF SOIL AT THE BOTTOM, SO IT'LL PACK IT IN AND WE'LL KEEP THE TREE IN PLACE. WE'RE PRETTY DARN CLOSE. WE GET ABOUT ANOTHER INCH OR TWO DOWN, GET THE SOIL OUT, AND THEN WE RIGHT AT THE LEVEL WE WANT TO. SO THAT WAY WHEN WE PUT THE TREE IN THE HOLE, WE'RE A LITTLE BIT ABOVE GRADE AND THEN WE CAN START BACK FILLING. YOU DID A GREAT JOB PREPPING THE ROOF OFF. THAT'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK. OH, GOOD JOB. AS GENTLY AS WE CAN. WE ARE HERE THIS MORNING AT WATSON PARK ON THE WEST SIDE OF GARLAND. ALL RIGHT. WE ARE HERE FOR OUR ANNUAL ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING EVENT. UH, WE HAVE PARTNERED OBVIOUSLY THROUGH OUR, OUR CITY PARKS DEPARTMENT. WE'VE PARTNERED THIS YEAR ALSO WITH BRONCO WILD FUND. UH, THEY CONTRIBUTED TO, UH, THE EFFORT, SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT MY . WE'VE GOT VOLUNTEERS OUT HERE. WE ARE PLANTING 40 TREES HERE IN WATSON PARK, AND THIS AREA WAS HIT VERY HARD, UH, IN THE STORMS BACK IN MAY. WE LOST A LOT OF TREES OUT OF THE PARK, SO IT'S GREAT TO BE HERE TODAY TO REPLACE THOSE. THAT'S VERY HELPFUL. GOOD JOB. ALRIGHT. I DON'T REALLY LIKE DIGGING. I SAID I'D PROBABLY GO TO HOME DEPOT AND GO RENT AN AUGER AND SAY, I'M HERE . YEAH. I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN MAD AT YOU. RIGHT. . HEY, PEOPLE WOULD'VE LOVED YOU. SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE, WE TRY TO PLANT A LOT OF TREES HERE IN GARLAND AND I, MY STAFF CAN'T DO 'EM ALL. AND SO WHEN WE CAN GET VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED, UH, IT HELPS LIGHTEN THE LOAD ON MY GUYS, BUT IT ALSO HELPS THE CITIZENS GET BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY. AND SO THIS IS A GREAT WAY FOR CITIZENS TO BE ABLE TO COME OUT, UH, BE INVESTED IN THEIR PARKS AND HELP LEAVE SOMETHING THAT'S GONNA BE A LEGACY FOR THIS PARK, FOR, FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. IT'S ONLY YOUR PART THAT NEEDS MORE. SO RIGHT HERE TO HAVE SO MANY SHOW UP IT FOR ONE EVENT IS, IS AMAZING. UM, IT, IT REALLY SHOWS THAT PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THEIR CITY. THEY HAVE, UM, A LITTLE OWNERSHIP IN THEIR CITY. YOU THINK? UM, WE LOVE SERVING THE COMMUNITY. I MEAN, PARKS, EVERYBODY NEEDS PARKS. YOUNG, OLD, LIKE YOU SAID, IT'S GENERATIONAL. AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN DO NO MATTER WHAT AGE YOU ARE. I WORK AT NEXTGEN AT OUR CHURCH, SO IT'S GREAT THAT FAMILIES CAN COME AND SERVE TOGETHER. THIS SIDE OF TOWN IS WHERE THE STORM ENTERED. IT WAS DEVASTATING. THE WINDS 80, 90 PLUS MILES AN HOUR. WE LOST A LOT OF TREES OUT OF THE PARK AND ACTUALLY YOU CAN STILL SEE BROKEN OFF, YOU KNOW, WHERE TREES WERE BROKEN OFF. UM, SO TO BE OUT HERE TODAY TO REPLACE THOSE TREES ARE, ARE, IS, IS FANTASTIC BECAUSE AGAIN, OUR PARKS ARE A GENERATIONAL AMENITY. PEOPLE WHO ARE BRINGING THEIR KIDS TO THIS PARK NOW WILL BRING THEIR KIDS TO IT WHEN THEIR PARENTS AND, AND THESE TREES WILL MATURE OVER THAT TIME JUST LIKE THEIR KIDS WILL. AND IT'S, IT, IT, IT WILL CONTINUE ON THAT PATH. * This transcript was created by voice-to-text technology.
