AND IF YOU'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES AND TELL US ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY IN THE SUMMIT. HI. YES, MY NAME IS CATHERINE BRADLEY. I'M THE OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY COORDINATOR. THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING. THE OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY HAS BEEN DOING A NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT SINCE, I BELIEVE, 2004, AND WE PAIR IT WITH OUR GARLAND NEIGHBORHOOD AWARDS. AND EACH YEAR WE RECOGNIZE THOSE WHO NOMINATE THEMSELVES, NOMINATE THEIR NEIGHBORS, THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS, THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTERS FOR RECOGNITION, FOR THE HARD WORK THAT THEY'VE DONE IN IN MAKING GARLAND COMMUNITIES REALLY SPECIAL AND UNIQUE. SO I'LL LET ALEJANDRO ALSO INTRODUCE HIMSELF REAL QUICK. HEY GUYS, I AM ALEJANDRO CARDOSO, THE OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOODS OF VITALITY NEIGHBORHOOD SPECIALIST. THANK YOU GUYS FOR COMING OUT, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SHOW OUR WINNERS THEIR RECOGNITION. SO THANK YOU. VERY GOOD. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. DON'T LEAVE. DON'T LEAVE. WHEREAS EACH YEAR, THE CITY OF GARLAND OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY RECOGNIZES NEIGHBORS AND NEIGHBORHOODS WHO MAKE EXTRAORDINARY EFFORTS TO ENHANCE, REVITALIZE, OR INVEST IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. WHEREAS THE WHO'S WHO IN GARLAND NEIGHBORHOOD AWARDS IS GIVEN TO INDIVIDUALS WHO EXEMPLIFY WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR THROUGH LEADERSHIP, COMMUNITY BUILDING AND SERVICE. TOMMY ZAPATA OF RUSTIC OAKS ESTATES EMBODIES THESE QUALITIES. SO

[00:05:07]

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SCOTT LEMAY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GARLAND, ALONG WITH OUR CITY COUNCIL, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM TOMMY ZAPATA AS THE WINNER OF THE WHO'S WHO IN GARLAND NEIGHBORHOODS AWARD.

THANK YOU SIR, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. YOU KNOW, I'M HUMBLED AND BLESSED TO HAVE WON, BUT I MERELY REPRESENT MANY, MANY GOOD NEIGHBORS IN GARLAND WHO DO THIS. I WAS JUST FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE RECOGNIZED, ACKNOWLEDGED. AND I THANK THE CITY OF GARLAND AND THE NEIGHBOR WHO NOMINATED ME FOR IT. THANK YOU SO MUCH AND GOD BLESS THE CITY OF GARLAND. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU SIR. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. APPRECIATE WHAT YOU'RE DOING. THANK YOU. KEEP IT UP. THANK YOU SIR. EVERYONE GREAT JOB. THANK YOU SIR. ALL RIGHT. VERY GOOD. AND NOW IF I COULD HAVE THE MEMBERS FROM THE CAMELOT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION COME FORWARD, AND I GUESS SINCE MAYOR PRO TEM SET THE PRECEDENT THIS EVENING. COUNCILMEMBER HEDRICK, WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN US? HOW ARE YOU? GOOD. HOW ARE YOU? I'M VERY GOOD. GETTING BETTER. SO OUR NEXT LOOK AT THEIR. WOW. HOLD ON. GET MY FINGERPRINTS ALL OVER IT. YES, WELL, IT'LL NEED IT AGAIN. SO OUR NEXT RECOGNITION IS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER. AND THE, YOU KNOW, THE A LOT OF NEIGHBORHOODS STILL DO NEWSLETTERS. SOME HAVE GONE ELECTRONIC, BUT THEY'RE STILL PUTTING INFORMATION OUT TO THEIR MEMBERS. THE CAMELOT. NOW, IN ALL TRANSPARENCY, I HAPPEN TO LIVE IN THE CAMELOT NEIGHBORHOOD. SO AND WAS ON THE BOARD FOR MANY YEARS, WORKED WITH JOE, WORKED WITH WITH CYNTHIA IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND FOR OUR OUR NEWSLETTER AND COMMUNICATIONS AMONG NEIGHBORS IS VITAL FOR STRONG NEIGHBORHOODS. THE CAMELOT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS. THE NIGHTLY NEWS IS A SHINING EXAMPLE OF THIS, EARNING THE AWARD FOR NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER COMPETITION FOR 2024. AND I REMIND ME, WE'VE WON A COUPLE OF TIMES FOR THIS. THIS IS OUR THIRD ONE, THIRD TIME THAT THE ASSOCIATION HAS HAS WON THE AWARD. I CAN TELL YOU, AFTER 20 SOMETHING YEARS OF READING THE NEWSLETTERS, IT IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST AROUND. AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, THERE'S EVERY THING FROM CITY INFORMATION IN IT TO RECIPES TO GOSH, TO THE YARDS OF THE MONTH. I MEAN, EVERYTHING THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD DOES IS COMMUNICATED THROUGH THAT. AND THIS IS OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT, JOE THOMAS. AND THIS IS CYNTHIA HOUCK. CYNTHIA HAS BEEN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER EDITOR, EDITOR, PUBLISHER, PRINTER, AND YOU NAME IT FOR HOW MANY YEARS? 26 YEARS. BUT HOW LONG? HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU'VE LIVED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD? 23 YEARS. SO SHE'S BEEN DOING THE NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER FOR 26 YEARS. 23 OF THOSE YEARS. SHE DID NOT EVEN LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE. SO, CYNTHIA, THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING THE NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER. IT IS YOU DO A FANTASTIC JOB AND HAVE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. WE'D LIKE TO SHARE ANYTHING. JOE, I'M HONORED TO RECEIVE THIS BEAUTIFUL TROPHY AND THE GRATITUDE OF THE CITY. AND IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. IT'S BEEN A REAL JOY. I STILL ENJOY DOING IT EVERY MONTH, AND I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR OUR CAMELOT BOARD MEMBERS CHAIRS AND OUR WONDERFUL DYLAN OVER HERE. FOR ALL THE ARTICLES THAT ARE PUT IN THE NEWSLETTER EVERY MONTH. IF THEY DIDN'T HELP ME, I WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO PRINT. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU. AND IF I COULD, I ALSO WANT I ALSO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. CYNTHIA, 23 YEARS DOING A NEWSLETTER FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD YOU NO LONGER LIVE IN IS SOME REAL DEDICATION TO A NEIGHBORHOOD. I CAN'T EMPHASIZE THAT ENOUGH. I DIDN'T WANT TO LOSE MY FRIENDS. SO THAT'S WHY YOU YOU WOULD NOT HAVE LOST A FRIEND. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN OUR NEWSLETTER. IT'S A IT'S AN AMAZING PIECE. AND YES, SOME OF THE BOARD MEMBERS HAVE CONTRIBUTIONS AND OUR COUNCILMAN MAKES A CONTRIBUTION. BUT WITHOUT HER TO PUT THAT BIG JIGSAW PUZZLE TOGETHER EVERY MONTH, THEN WE WOULDN'T HAVE A NEWSLETTER. SO I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. CYNTHIA, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO

[00:10:05]

CAMELOT. MY PLEASURE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, SIR. TO ADD TO THE COLLECTION. YES.

THANK YOU. RUNNING OUT OF ROOM ON MY DESK. IT'S A GOOD PROBLEM TO HAVE. TO HAVE TO NEED A BIGGER TROPHY CABINET. YOU KNOW SOMETHING? AND ONE OF OUR OTHER AWARDS THAT WE DO DURING THIS TIME IS OUR PUBLIC SERVANT AWARD. AND WE HAVE A LOT OF THEM. IF I COULD HAVE EVERYONE FROM SANITATION COME FORWARD, PLEASE. YOU'RE IF YOU'VE MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THIS ROOM, YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE. THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. HOW'S IT GOING? ALL RIGHT. YOU WANT TO JUST LINE UP RIGHGHT HE? IT'S FINE. NOTHING ON ME. I THINK WE CAN SEE ALL OF YOU.

YES, I DO, YES, YES. AT COLLINS AND TOWN. SHA FOR. YEAH. WE MAY HAVE TO SQUEEZE YOU, THOUGH.

YEAH. WE'RE FAMILY. WE GOT IT, WE GOT IT. SQUEEZE AROUND, SQUEEZE AROUND, SQUEEZE AROUND.

YOU REALLY? IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME A LITTLE BIT, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SORT OF INTRODUCE SOME OF THIS GROUP AND KIND OF GIVE US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SANITATION. YEAH. GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. SO THIS IS ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT. THIS IS THE BRASH AND BULKY DIVISION. AND YOU KNOW IT IS AMAZING WHAT THESE GUYS DO DAY IN AND DAY OUT. IF YOU'VE LIVED IN GARLAND FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS, YOU KNOW THAT WE GET A NATURAL DISASTER EVERY YEAR.

WHEN I WAS I RAN INTO DARRELL CLINE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND I MADE A COMMENT, I SAID, YOU KNOW, I HAD HOPED THAT WITH THE RETIREMENT OF BRIAN BRADFORD, A LOT OF THIS NATURAL DISASTER WOULD JUST KIND OF GO AWAY. NO, YOU KNOW, MR. REX KIND OF JUST STEPPED IN AND SAID, WATCH. AND WE GOT THE MAY 28TH STORM. YOU KNOW, IT'S AMAZING. THESE GUYS AND GIRLS, THEY WERE WORKING 12 TO 14 HOUR DAYS MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. YOU KNOW, THEY WORKED THE FATHER DAY, FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND. THEY SACRIFICED PERSONAL FAMILY TIME. AND THEY ONLY HAD ONE GOAL IN MIND, AND THAT WAS TO TAKE CARE OF THE GARLAND COMMUNITY. I JUST COULDN'T BE MORE PROUD OF WHAT WHAT THESE GUYS DO DAY IN AND DAY OUT FOR THIS COMMUNITY. SO JUST VERY PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM, MAYOR, AND TELL US, REMIND US ONE MORE TIME HOW MANY POUNDS OF DEBRIS WERE REMOVED FROM THE MAY 28TH STORM? I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT NUMBER, BUT IT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF THE LAST TWO TORNADOES COMBINED WITH SIX TIMES MORE THAN THE LAST TWO TORNADOES COMBINED. YES. VERY GOOD. WELL, SO AS PART OF OUR RECOGNITIONS THIS YEAR, THE GARLAND PUBLIC SERVANT AWARD, WE ARE HONORING OUR SANITATION DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES FOR, YOU KNOW, WE'RE WE'RE RECOGNIZING THEM FOR THE WORK THEY DID CLEANING UP AFTER AFTER THE MAY 28TH STORM. BUT REALLY, THEY WORK JUST AS HARD ALL THE OTHER DAYS. AND WE HAVE EXCEPTIONAL, EXCEPTIONAL SANITATION SERVICES HERE IN THE CITY OF GARLAND. AND FORTUNATELY, BECAUSE WE HAVE SUCH A GREAT SYSTEM, WE HAVE SUCH GREAT EMPLOYEES THAT WORK IN SANITATION. WHEN WE DO HAVE ONE OF OUR NATURAL DISASTERS, WE ALREADY HAVE THE PEOPLE AND THE EQUIPMENT IN PLACE AND THE PROCESSES, WHICH ALWAYS PUTS US FAR AHEAD OF OUR SISTER CITIES AROUND US IN GETTING CLEANED UP. SO ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF GARLAND, GARLAND CITY COUNCIL, THE CITIZENS OF GARLAND, I WANT TO THANK YOU NOT JUST FOR THE TIMES WHEN THINGS ARE REALLY BAD, BUT THANK YOU FOR THE DAY IN, DAY OUT WORK THAT YOU DO HERE IN THE CITY. IT IS. IT IS EXCEPTIONAL. SO THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. AND ACTUALLY YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU. YES. YOU'VE GOT SOME SHINY AWARDS TOO. THAT'S A NICE ONE. ARE YOU THERE? THANK YOU. YES. HEY, MICHAEL. LOVE IT, LOVE IT. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. ALL RIGHT. SO NOW IT COMES DOWN I'M GOING TO GIVE THIS TO YOU, SIR. YES, SIR. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. THAT'S THAT BELONGS TO THE OLD BRUSH GROUP. YES, YES. AND CAN WE GET COUNCILMEMBER BASS. NICE. YEAH.

[00:15:03]

YEAH, YEAH. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. WELL. AND WE DO HAVE ONE MORE PUBLIC SERVANT AWARD THIS EVENING. LIEUTENANT BRONNER, IF YOU COULD JOIN ME DOWN FRONT, PLEASE. THANK YOU.

THIS. IS A VERY GOOD. COME ON. NO, YOU GOTTA COME OVER. I DON'T KNOW, WHY DOES NOBODY WANT TO STAND BY ME THIS EVENING? STARTING TO TAKE THIS PERSONALLY? WELL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS IS LIEUTENANT MATT BRONNER FROM THE GARLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN WITH THE DEPARTMENT? 21, 21 YEARS. AND YOU'RE 27, RIGHT? YES. YES, YES.

PLUS OR MINUS A LITTLE PLUS OR. YEAH. EASIER. WELL, THIS IS ALSO IN RECOGNITION OF THE GARLAND PUBLIC SERVANT AWARD. IT AGAIN IS GIVEN TO EMPLOYEES WHO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO SERVE THE RESIDENTS. AND OBVIOUSLY THIS YEAR WE RECOGNIZED OUR SANITATION DEPARTMENT. WE ALSO WANT TO RECOGNIZE LIEUTENANT BRONNER FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING GARLAND AND HIS DEDICATION TO SERVING RESIDENTS. NOW, I KNOW, I KNOW, LIEUTENANT BRONNER. I'VE KNOWN LIEUTENANT BRONNER FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW, AND BEFORE HE WAS A LIEUTENANT. YES, SIR. EVEN. AND I WILL TELL YOU, LIEUTENANT BRONNER IS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE BEST FOR THE GARLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE SEEN HIM IN ACTION. I SEE WHAT HE DOES. BUT REALLY, WHAT I SEE A LOT OF IS ALSO WHAT HE DOES FOR THE DEPARTMENT. WHEN HE WAS IN TRAINING. AND HOW THE RESPECT THAT HE GETS FROM HIS FELLOW FIREFIGHTERS REALLY GOES TO SHOW WHAT A GREAT COMMITMENT HE HAS MADE TO THE CITY, TO THE DEPARTMENT, AND THAT THAT COMMITMENT IS NOT JUST FOR HIMSELF, BUT ALSO FOR EVERYONE THAT HE COMES IN CONTACT IN THE DEPARTMENT. SO WE THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SIR, FOR YOUR SERVICE.

THANK YOU. AND I'M GOING TO YOU'RE GOING TO SAY SOMETHING AFTER I SAY ALL THAT ABOUT YOU.

YES, SIR. YOU HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT ME NOW. I DON'T I DON'T HAVE ANY. OH, I CAN TALK. I CAN TALK FOREVER SAYING NICE THINGS ABOUT YOU. BUT I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE THAT MUCH TIME. I KNOW I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING PLANNED, SO. AND I COULD PROBABLY TALK A LOT, BUT I'LL. I'LL SAY VERY LITTLE. I LOVE WHERE I WORK, I LOVE WHO I WORK WITH, AND I LOVE THE PEOPLE THAT WE GET TO SERVE. AND IT'S AN HONOR. THANK YOU. THANK YOU SIR. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. THAT THAT IS ALL OF OUR AWARDS FOR TONIGHT. WE WILL COME BACK, I BELIEVE, AT OUR FIRST MEETING IN JANUARY. WE'RE GOING TO HOLD YOU IN SUSPENSE. WHO THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE YEAR WAS. SO YOU'LL HAVE TO COME BACK IN JANUARY. THANK YOU BOTH.

ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. WE WILL GET INTO OUR ANDA THIS EVENING. WE DO NOT HAVE ANY
