YES, I USE THE, UH, SOUTH BRANCH OF THE, UH, LIBRARY SYSTEM.

AND, UH, I'D LIKE TO INQUIRE ABOUT, UH, CANOPY.

WE ARE A MEMBER OF CANOPY.

IT SEEMS TO BE LIKE WE COULD GREATLY ENHANCE THE OFFERINGS OWN CANOPY.

NOW, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S CANOPY'S FAULT OR THE CITY'S FAULT, BUT THEY, WE HAVE A RESTRICTED LIMITS ON WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER THROUGH CANOPY.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT THERE'S A HUGE LIBRARY OF DVDS AND DOCUMENTARIES THAT'S OUT THERE THAT COULD BE TAPPED BY CANOPY FOR OUR CITIZENS.

THAT WOULD PROBABLY CUT DOWN ON OUR COST OF HAVING TO BUY OF THE DVDS FOR OUR LIBRARY.

I MEAN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE, UH, COST AND REVENUE SHARING ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN CANOPY AND THE CITY OF GARLAND IS, BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE MORE, UH, OFFERINGS ON CANOPY.

UH, I'D ALSO LIKE FOR IT TO HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OVERALL OF WHEN WE COME INTO REQUEST A-A-D-V-D OR A BOOK TO BE PURCHASED BY THE LIBRARY, YOU CAN SEND IN A REQUEST AND, AND I GET NOTHING BACK.

IT'S JUST CRICKETS AFTER I SEND IT IN.

SHE CAME AND HAS WORKED, UH, AS A CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN.

UM, I THINK SHE'S WORKED AT ALMOST ALL THE LOCATIONS, UM, AND WAS RECENTLY PROMOTED TO OUR SENIOR LIBRARIAN OF, UH, YOUTH SERVICES SELECTION SPECIALIST.

SO SHE GETS, UM, SHE HAS TO ORDER ALL

UH, WE RECENTLY ON SATURDAY DID THE, THE CIP UPDATE.

AND SO I'M USING THE SAME FORMAT HERE TO, TO BRING YOU UP TO DATE WITH THE, UH, BOTH OF THOSE PROJECTS.

SO THE GOOD NEWS IS THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS WITH CENTRAL.

UM, THEY BEGAN THE INSTALLATION OF THE CEILING GRID AT, UM, FOR THE MAIN FLOOR OF CENTRAL.

THEY'VE INSTALLED THE CEILING GRID, UM, FOR THE LOWER LEVEL AND SOME OF THE LIGHTING FOR THE LOWER LEVEL.

STARTED TO DO SOME OF THE SAME THING ON THE MAIN LEVEL.

AND CAME, UM, REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A, UH, AN ISSUE WITH SOME OF THE NEW DRAINS THAT WERE INSTALLED AS PART OF THE, THE ROOF RENOVATION.

SO YOU REMEMBER WE GOT A BRAND NEW ROOF, WHICH TRIGGERED SOME OTHER THINGS WITH DRAINAGE, UH, ROOF DRAINS, UM, SOME OTHER TYPES OF THINGS UP IN THAT, THAT CEILING AREA.

SO I'M GONNA SKIP AHEAD TO THIS SLIDE REAL QUICK.

WHAT YOU HAVE SHOWING ON THE SCREEN IS A, UM, THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

SO IF YOU NOTICE THIS, UM, THE LARGE BROWN AREA HERE IS ONE OF THE MAIN DRAINAGE PIPES THAT WAS, UH, INSTALLED AS PART OF THAT ROOF, NEW ROOF SYSTEM, NEW DRAINAGE SYSTEM BECAUSE OF HOW THAT DRAIN HAD TO BE INSTALLED.

AND BECAUSE OF THE SLOPE OF THE DRAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT THE, THE CONTENTS OF THE DRAIN ACTUALLY GO IN THE DIRECTION THAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO GO.

IT ACTUALLY WAS BELOW WHERE THE INTENDED CEILING GRID WAS GOING TO BE.

SO OUR ARCHITECTS AND, UM, THE, UH, CONSTRUCTION CREW AS, AS WELL AS THE PROJECT MANAGER WITH THIS CITY, UM, WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION.

'CAUSE IT'S NOT JUST IN THIS AREA.

IT ACTUALLY AFFECTED MULTIPLE AREAS OF THE, THE BUILDING.

SO WHAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE, UM, ARE SOME DIFFERENT CEILING HEIGHTS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.

SO THE YELLOW PART, UH, WILL, CAN YOU WAIT ON ONE AND THIS SECTION AND THIS SECTION WILL BE, UH, PRETTY TALL AT, UH, 11 FOOT, SEVEN INCHES.

THE BIG THING THAT WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN IS THIS SECTION HERE THAT THE NEW WEST ENTRANCE THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT.

WE GET A SPECIAL TILE TREATMENT THROUGH THIS AREA LEADING TO THE GRAND STAIRCASE.

THIS, IT'S, IT'S NOT WOOD AS A WOOD-LIKE, UM, ACOUSTICAL CEILING TILE THAT WILL REMAIN AT 12 FEET.

THIS AREA HERE THOUGH, AS IT'S REALLY IMPACTED BY THIS PARTICULAR DRAIN, UM, IS BEING LOWERED TO NINE FOOT SIX INCHES IN THIS SECTION OF THE LIBRARY.

SO THERE IS GONNA BE AN UNINTENDED, UH, LOWERING, OR I SHOULDN'T SAY UNINTENDED.

THE, THE CEILING HAS TO BE LOWERED TO BE ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THAT, THAT DRAIN SYSTEM, WHICH WAS NOT A PART OF THE ORIGINAL PLAN.

I'LL PAUSE HERE.

ARE THERE ANY OKAY.

DOES THAT CREATE COMPLICATIONS, UH, VIS-A-VIS YOUR INTERIOR DECORATING PLANS? UM, WE WENT THROUGH WITH THE, UM, THE INTERIOR SPECIALIST AND WITH OUR TEAM TO LOOK, THANKFULLY, NO, UM, IT MIGHT HAVE AT A, A DIFFERENT PART OR A DIFFERENT POINT IN THE PROJECT OR IF IT WAS REALLY A PART, IF IT WAS IMPACTING A DIFFERENT PART OF THE LIBRARY.

SO, AND THIS MAIN PART WHERE IT'S COMING DOWN SOLO, WE THANKFULLY DON'T HAVE PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY THAT ARE INCORPORATED, UH, IN THAT PART OF THE LIBRARY.

LIKE SOME OF OUR MAKER SPACES, THE, THE STEADY ROOMS HAVE, UM, YOU KNOW, THERE'S CRITICAL PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY BETWEEN A SCREEN, BETWEEN MICROPHONES, BETWEEN SPECIAL LIGHTING AND THINGS THAT, THAT REALLY WOULD'VE HAVE HAD AN IMPACT.

IS THERE A FINANCIAL IMPACT, UH, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, SAVINGS OR EXTRA MONEY? UM, I DO, I'D HAVE TO GO BACK AND PULL THE EXACT FIGURE.

I THINK THERE WAS A SMALL INCREASE BECAUSE IT INCLUDED, UH, THEY'RE GONNA DO A FUR DOWN TO MAKE THE TRANSITION SEEM MORE SEAMLESS AND INTENTIONAL THAN JUST HAVING IT GO HERE AND THEN GO INTO ANOTHER SECTION AND IT'S

HIGHER OR LOWER.

BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS A, UM, LARGE COST, UH, TO THE PROJECT.

IS IT IMPACTING THE TIMELINE OF THE PROJECT AT ALL? IT IS NOT.

SO IT SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF THOSE NORMAL THINGS THAT HAPPENS AND WHEN YOU'RE IMPLEMENTING A PROJECT AND A RENOVATION.

IT IS, YES.

AND, AND FORTUNATELY IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS EASY TO ADAPT TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

IT WAS WONDERFUL.

UM, THE NEXT CHANGE THAT I NEED TO UPDATE YOU ON IS, IF YOU REMEMBER, UH, ON THE EXTERIOR WE WERE GOING TO HAVE, OR I SHOULD SAY WE ARE HAVING A TREE GROVE AROUND THAT THE WEST ENTRANCE, THE NEW MAIN ENTRANCE PART OF WHAT WAS GONNA BE A PART OF, UH, THE TREE GROVE TO THE NORTH WAS THE ADDITION OF SOME SWINGS THAT REALLY DIDN'T SWING.

THERE WERE MORE OF A, A SITTING STRUCTURE, BUT THEY, UH, WERE HUNG, UM, IN SUCH A WAY THAT THERE WOULD BE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF MOVEMENT BUT NOT A SWING.

LIKE YOU WOULD GO TO A PLAYGROUND AND THERE WOULD BE A, A SWING STRUCTURE THERE.

UM, AND GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS, WE'VE TRIED MULTIPLE VENDORS TO, UH, TO TRY TO LOCATE AND FIND AN ADEQUATE COST EFFECTIVE PRODUCT.

WE HAVE , WE HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL WITH THAT.

SO BECAUSE OF THE COST AND OF THIS PARTICULAR PRODUCT, THIS HAS BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE PROJECT.

IN LIEU OF THAT, WE ARE LOOKING AT ADDING AN EXTERIOR, UM, STAGE PLATFORM AREA AND THAT TREE GROVE AREA.

SO WE'D BE ABLE TO DO SOME OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, HAVE PERFORMERS COME AND DO SOME DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WAY IN THAT SPACE.

SO IT'LL STILL BE PROGRAMMED, STILL BE ACTIVATED JUST IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED.

IS THERE, UM, FOR THE STAGE, IS THERE, UH, CAPABILITIES FOR LIGHT AND SOUND, SO POWER OUT THERE OR? WE DO HAVE SOME POWER IN THE, THE GENERAL AREA AND THERE IS SOME LIGHTING, UM, IN THAT SPACE, BUT THERE, IT PROVIDES, UM, SOME LIGHTING.

WELL, IT PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO HAVE SOME, UM, MOBILE LIGHTING, MOBILE SOUND EQUIPMENT THAT WE CAN PUT OUT THERE FOR, FOR SOMETHING LARGER, BUT ALSO HAVE SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT SMALLER AND A LITTLE MORE INTIMATE THAT MAYBE WE, WE BRINGS IN A, A SMALLER CROWD TUBE.

SO, SO WITH THAT, UM, SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION, JUST THE CONSTRUCTION PART IS STILL SLATED FOR THE END OF MARCH, THEN WE'LL TAKE, UM, PROBABLY ABOUT A MONTH TO DO INSTALLATION OF FURNISHINGS EQUIPMENT, ALL THE IT PIECES, UH, BRING STAFF IN, GET STAFF TRAINED, AND WE'RE TENTATIVELY KEYWORD BEING TENTATIVE, UM, SCHEDULED FOR A GRAND OPENING OF MAY, 2025, WHICH IS EXCITING.

WHICH WONDERFUL QUESTIONS.

WHAT WILL, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH CLEE? WILL IT BE REPURPOSED OR, UH, DO, IS IT TOO SOON TO ASK IT? IT MAY BE A LITTLE BIT TOO SOON TO ASK.

I THINK, UM, THERE ARE DIFFERENT CONVERSATIONS THAT ARE GOING ON ABOUT WHAT THOSE MAY BE AND WE CAN BRING THOSE BACK AT A LATER TIME.

THERE'S A LOT OF SITE WORK THAT STILL HAS TO BE DONE.

UM, BUT THE PARKING LOT'S DONE, THE ACTUAL BUILDING STRUCTURE IS DONE.

THEY'VE, UH, STARTED TO DO A LOT OF FRAMING DRYWALL.

THEY'VE STARTED PRIMING SOME AREAS.

AND THE, THE LIBRARY AGAIN, THIS PROJECT IS ALSO, UM, SLATED FOR SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION IN LATE MARCH, EARLY APRIL.

AND WE'RE LOOKING AT PROBABLY LATE MAY OR EARLY JUNE GRAND OPENING FOR WEST, UM, WEST GARLAND LIBRARY.

FOLLOWING THAT SAME PROCESS OF, UM, ONCE SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION'S DONE INSTALLING ALL THE FURNISHINGS, THE TECHNOLOGY, UM, ALL THAT EQUIPMENT THAT NEEDS TO, TO BE INSTALLED AND PUTTING THE COLLECTION IN THE BUILDING.

WHAT ARE THE, THE NUMBERS IN THE TOP RIGHT THERE? THE PROJECT COST TOTAL PRO TO, SO THE TOTAL PROJECT COST IS FROM START TO FINISH.

HOW MUCH IS, UM, IS THAT HOW MUCH IS SPENT IN 2025 OR THAT'S HOW MUCH IS ANTICIPATED TO SPEND IN IN 2025? YES SIR.

ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING THINGS ABOUT THIS BUILDING, GETTING IN TO SEE IT COME TOGETHER IS THE, THE COLORED PIECES OF GLASS THAT

ARE BEING INSTALLED FOR THAT, THAT GRAND PROMENADE IN WEST LIBRARY.

AND THESE PICTURES DO NOT DO WHAT JUSTICE WHATSOEVER, , BUT IT'S BEAUTIFUL TO STAND IN THE SPACE AND TO SEE THAT SUNLIGHT COMING IN TO GIVE THAT SENSE OF AWE AND JUST HELPING PEOPLE REALIZE THAT THE LIBRARIES CAN EVOKE A FEELING AND A, YOU KNOW, A DIFFERENT STATE OF MIND.

SO IT REALLY DOESN'T DO IT JUSTICE, BUT IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.

AND I BROUGHT SAMPLES TONIGHT.

UM, THEY'RE QUITE HEAVY , BUT THIS IS THE AMBER AND THE BLUE.

UM, AND THIS ONE IS JUST, IT HAS A SMALL COATING, ALMOST LIKE A, A SMOKE TO IT.

THE ONLY COLOR I DO NOT HAVE IS A GREEN SHADE, UM, THAT'S REPRESENTED IN THE PHOTOS BUT NOT REPRESENTED HERE.

YOU WANT THIS HEAVY THING ? I IF I WANT TWO, I KNOW WE'RE GONNA HAVE A WORKOUT TONIGHT.

BUT ONCE THEY'RE, UM, INSTALLED THOSE LAST PIECES, WHICH I THINK WILL BE LATE JANUARY, SOMETIME IN FEBRUARY, THINGS ON THE INTERIOR WILL REALLY START TO RAMP UP AND GO QUITE FAST WITH BEING ABLE TO PUT IN SOME OF THE FINISHES AND FIXTURES AND FOR CONSIDERATION, UM, WHERE OUR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS ARE GOING.

AND, UM, IT HELPS, UH, CIRCULATE OUR MATERIALS MORE QUICKLY.

PEOPLE FIND THEM MORE EASILY, TYPICALLY THEREBY AUTHOR WITH DEWEY AND THAT JUST DIDN'T PUT SIMILAR BOOKS TOGETHER, UNLIKE NONFICTION.
