UM, THINGS LIKE CREATING INCREASED VISIBILITY, UM, CREATING A, AN OUTDOOR SPACE THAT HELPED WITH PLACEMAKING AND OUTDOOR PROGRAMMING.

SO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IS AN OVERALL CONCEPT.
THIS IS FROM BROADWAY, BUT IT'S CREATING A PEDESTRIAN PATH THAT WOULD GO FROM, UM, FROM THE SIDEWALK AREA INTO THE SPACE, ADDS COLOR.
UM, THERE WOULD BE A PLACE, UH, FOR LIKE WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT HERE, A PLACE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.

UM, WE HAVE LOOKED AT, UH, A NUMBER OF THINGS FROM, UM, PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT, UH, THE PUBLIC SURVEY CLOSED JANUARY 18TH.
UM, AND THEN WE HAD THE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH THE BOARDS LIKE WE HAD AT CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE.
THOSE HAVE BEEN MAKING ROUNDS TO DIFFERENT PLACES.
AND WE ACTUALLY HAD 768 PARTICIPANTS, UM, WITH THOSE BOARDS.
UM, STAFF ENGAGEMENT, WE HAD A SPECIAL STAFF SURVEY THAT WENT OUT AND WAS OPEN FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS AND IT CLOSED ON JANUARY 2ND.
AND THEN WE HELD STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY, UM, ON JAN FRIDAY, JANUARY 30TH.
UM, WHICH THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY WAS COMPLETELY DEVOTED TO, UM, STAFF ENGAGEMENT FOR THE STRATEGIC PLAN.
OUR CONSULTANTS WERE ON SITE AND THEY ENGAGED, THEY WENT THROUGH SOME DIFFERENT EXERCISES AND ACTIVITIES THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO GET A LOT OF INFORMATION BACK FROM STAFF ON THE SAME DAY.
WE ALSO HELD IN THE AFTERNOON A STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT, UM, WITH DIFFERENT CITY DEPARTMENTS, UM, FRIENDS AT THE LIBRARY GROUP.
AND, UM, SOME OF YOU ARE ABLE TO JOIN IN ON, UH, THAT CONVERSATION AS WELL.
AND IT WAS A REALLY GREAT, UH, MEETING THAT AFTERNOON.

UM, AND WHAT SOME OF THOSE THEMES, UM, ENDED UP COMING OUT OF ALL THE, THOSE DIFFERENT PIECES OF INFORMATION.
SO, UH, I'M JUST GONNA RUN THROUGH SOME OF THE, THE BIG THINGS THAT, UM, THEY SHARED.

UM, FROM THE STAFF SURVEY, UH, THERE WAS, UH, SOMETHING IDENTIFIED AS WE'RE NOT ABLE TO TAKE, UM, PAYMENTS FOR WHEN PEOPLE COME IN AND, YOU KNOW, GET A COPY OR DO A PRINT WITH APPLE PAY OR WITH A CREDIT CARD.
SO LOOKING AT SOME WAY TO BE ABLE TO, UM, MAKE THAT EASIER FOR PATRONS.

UM, WE STILL HAVE A VERY STRONG AND ROBUST DIGITAL COLLECTION, UM, WHICH IS GREAT.

UM, AND THAT PUBLIC VALUES, UH, THE PUBLIC VALUES, EVENTS THAT BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND THE EXPANSION OF SPANISH AND WORLD LANGUAGE RESOURCES.
SO I HIGHLIGHT, UM, PUBLIC VALUES, EVENTS THAT BRING COMMUNITY TOGETHER.
THAT'S PART OF WHAT WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO DO WITH OUR ADULT PROGRAMS. UM, ALL AGE PROGRAMS, BUT SPECIFICALLY WITH ADULT AGE PROGRAMS. AND SOME OF THE WAYS THAT WE HAVE ARE SOME OF THE MODIFICATIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING TO THE, THE,

UM, AND STAFF ARE INTERESTED IN OFFERING MORE OUT OF THE BOX CULTURAL OFFERINGS, WHICH WE'RE EXCITED TO PARTNER WITH OUR FRIENDS GROUP ON HELPING TO BE ABLE TO EXPAND THOSE OFFERINGS AS WELL.
UM, LOOKING AT REDUCING BARRIERS, UH, OVER 14% OF GARLAND'S HOUSEHOLDS SPEAK LIMITED ENGLISH, UH, STAFF INDICATING INCREASING SPANISH LANGUAGE RESOURCES FOR THIS POPULATION AS A NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
UM, THERE'S ALSO HIGH INTEREST IN MATERIALS, PICKUP OPTIONS SUCH AS LOCKERS OR VENDING MACHINES.
SO WHAT THAT TELLS US IS WE'VE NOT DONE A VERY GOOD JOB OF GETTING OUT TO THE PUBLIC THAT WE, WE HAVE TWO, UM, BOOK KIOSKS, VENDING MACHINES FOR THE PUBLIC.
SO WE NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB OF GETTING THAT INFORMATION OUT THERE, UM, THAT THERE'S, THERE'S INTEREST FOR IT.
SO, UM, I'M GLAD THAT THERE'S INTEREST FOR IT.
UH, AND THEN, UM, 58% OF HOUSEHOLDS IN CERTAIN CENSUS TRACKS LACKING BROADBAND, UM, ACCESS AT HOME, HAVING THAT DIGITAL DIVIDE.

UM, WE'RE FIND FREE, WHICH IS A GREAT THING, UM, THAT HELPS US, UH, BE ABLE TO BE MORE, UM, FRIENDLY IN OUR COMMUNITY ABOUT CHECKING MATERIALS, ABOUT BRINGING THOSE ITEMS BACK.
WE WERE, UM, ABLE TO PILOT IT IN AS PART OF COVID, THE, THE PANDEMIC.
AND THEN COUNCIL WAS, UM, APPROVED THE MEASURE, I THINK IN 21 OR 22.
AND AT THE STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING THAT SEVERAL OF US ATTENDED, THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT.
UH, THE CONSULTANTS SPECIFICALLY COMMENDED THE LIBRARY FOR BEING FINE, FREE AND THEN COMMUNICATION.
UM, OUR MARKETING RECEIVED HIGH, THE HIGHEST DISSATISFACTION SCORES FROM THE COMMUNITY.
I WILL SAY, UH, IN TALKING WITH THE CONSULTANTS, BECAUSE MY HEART JUMPED JUST A LITTLE BIT WITH THIS ONE.
IT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE PUTTING OUT.

UM, 43% OF STAFF AGREE THAT OUR INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMUNICATION IS EFFECTIVE.
WISH THAT NUMBER WAS HIGHER THAN 43%, BUT IT, IT, IT'S 43%.
UH, CONTINUE TO WORK ON, UM, COMMUNICATION BOTH UPWARDS, DOWNWARDS, BACKWARDS, FORWARDS.
UH, WE'RE CONTINUING TO WORK TO INCREASE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO STAFF TRAINING.
