BY THAT WE'VE HAD OVER THE YEARS THAT FROM TIMES WHEN YOU HAVE THE POLICE WHO KEPT THIS, THESE RECORDS, YOU KNOW, A POLICE OFFICER WORKING 60, 70 HOURS A WEEK, ASIDE FROM CONSTRUCTION 40 OR 50 HOURS A WEEK, HE'S DONE OVERTIME. AND, AND WE WORK JOB WHERE IS WORK ALL NIGHT, THE NUMBER BEFORE THEN TO BE INSPECTED TO WORK A 12 HOUR TOUR. RIGHT. UH, AND AND IT'S, IT ALLOWS THE DEPARTMENT HEAD THE PRIMARY POINT OF THIS FORM TO ALLOW THE DEPARTMENT HEAD TO LOOK AT IT. UH, LAST MONTH I HAD TO GO TO EVERYBODY THAT WAS HERE UNDER THE AGE OF 35 STAND UP BECAUSE THOSE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE ELIGIBLE TO TEST FOR ANOTHER DEPARTMENT. AND A HUNDRED PERCENT OF THEM SAID THAT IF WE WENT TO A 12 HOUR SCHEDULE, THEY BEGAN TO ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR SOMEPLACE ELSE TO GO. IN TURN, IT WOULD ALSO AFFECT, UH, OUR RECRUITING. UH, THERE WOULD, THERE WOULD BE THOSE THAT WOULD COME TAKE THE TEST BECAUSE THEY FAILED IN OTHER PLACES. AND THE QUALITY OF OUR CANDIDATE, I THINK WOULD VARY DRASTICALLY SUFFERED IN WHAT WE'RE AND WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THERE. ALRIGHT. UM, AND THEN IT WOULD BE CHALLENGES, UH, THAT COMES IN WITH TRAINING AND CE BECAUSE YOU NOTICE, UH, B AND D SHIFTS ARE NIGHT SHIFTS. THEY COME IN AT 7:00 PM AND WORK TILL 7:00 AM SO A COUPLE THINGS WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN THERE. UH, WE WOULD EITHER HAVE TO PUT ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF ON TO COME IN AT NIGHT. UH, DR. UH, AND WE HAVE TO HAVE THREE HOURS EVERY MONTH AND CE OR MEDICAL CE AND ON TOP OF THAT WE HAVE FIRE CE AND ALL OF THOSE VARIOUS THINGS. UM, AND I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE, WHEN I WORKED IN A HOSPITAL WORKING THOSE NIGHTS, COMING IN ON, 'CAUSE I DIDN'T DO ANY TRAINING AT NIGHT, YOU HAD TO COME IN. ALRIGHT, ONE MOMENT. SO, UH, SO, SO THERE'S A LOT OF CHALLENGE THAT COME IN GOING TO THE, JUST EVEN A 12 HOUR SHIFT, REGARDLESS IF IT'S WHATEVER THAT PATTERN IS. UH, BUT IN THE, YOU KNOW, IN THE 1236 DOES GET US TO THE 42 HOUR WORK WEEK. UH, BUT, UH, DOES BRING A LOT OF CHALLENGES, UH, [00:15:01] ONCE IT SHIFT SCHEDULE THAT IS USED WIDELY, UH, IN THE NORTHEAST IS THE 10 14TH, UM, THIS, UH, NEW YORK PROBABLY THE LARGE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN ON A PURE 10, 14TH. THERE'S JUST, IT'S THE ONLY PEOPLE I KNOW THAT UNDERSTAND HOW THEIR SCHEDULE WORKS ARE FOLKS THAT WORK SCHEDULED. UM, I'VE HAD SEVERAL OF 'EM TRY TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME. IT'S CONFUSING. UH, BUT IN ITS INSTANCE, YOU, YOU WORK TWO NIGHT SHIFTS, YOU HAVE TWO DAYS OFF AND OR FOUR DAYS OFF AND YOU COME BACK AND IT, OR I'M SORRY, YOU WORK TWO DAY SHIFTS AND COME IN AND WORK TWO NIGHT SHIFTS, AND THEN YOU HAVE, UH, FIVE, FOUR DAYS OFF AND THEN THAT, THAT PATTERN REPEATS AND REPEATS. UM, SO WITH THAT SCHEDULE AGAIN, IT, IT IS, UH, A A 42 HOUR, UH, WORK WEEK. IT IS A SHIFT, A FOUR, A FOUR SHIFT PATTERN. SO AGAIN, WE'RE, WE'RE LOOKING AT HAVING TO HIRE 85 ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL TO PUT THAT SHIFT PATTERN IN PLACE. AND THAT'S A QUESTION A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE. WELL, WHY DO FIREFIGHTERS LIVE WHERE THEY DO AND COME WORK, WHAT HAVE YOU? THAT IS NOT UNCOMMON, REGARDLESS THAT, DO YOU ASK PRETTY MUCH ANY DEPARTMENT IN THE METROPLEX OR ANYWHERE AROUND, WE NEED TO 85% OF THEIR PERSONNEL LIVE OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS OF WHERE THEY WORK. AND IT'S NOT THAT THEY LIVE THERE AND THEN MOVED OUT THAT THEY, THEY CAME IN AND TESTED AND AND, AND CHOOSE TO STAY WHERE THEY ARE, UH, OR WHAT HAVE YOU. UM, SO AS WE, AS WE LOOK AT THOSE, THOSE SHIFT PATTERNS, UH, YOU KNOW, ALL OF THOSE 12 HOUR SHIFT PATTERNS ARE FOUR HOUR OR FOUR SHIFTS, UH, REQUIRED. SO THEY WOULD ALL REQUIRE HIRING 85 PEOPLE.
