AND SO THE, THE TWO PROJECTS THAT WE'RE STILL, UM, IN THE, THE PROCESS CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS ARE BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH.

UM, AND JUST TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON WHERE WE'RE AT WITH NORTH, IT FEELS LIKE WE DID A, FOR BOTH PROJECTS, A LOT OF HURRY UP AND NOW KIND OF THE WAITING PART, THE ACTUAL SEE THINGS HAPPENING.

UM, WE GOT THE COST ESTIMATES BACK FOR CONSTRUCTION FOR NORTH, UH, AND THEN TODAY WE ACTUALLY HAD A PRE-BID MEETING SITE VISIT, THE PROSPECTIVE, UM, BIDDERS WHO GOT TO, TO WALK THE SIDE, ASK, UH, THE ARCHITECT ASK, UM, PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE SOME QUESTIONS.

UM, SO THE NEXT STEPS, UM, WE WILL FINALIZE THE FINISHES FOR THE FURNITURE AND THE FLOORING AND THEN THE PROJECT WILL GO OUT TO BID.

ONCE IT GOES OUT TO BID.

AND IT GOES THROUGH ALL THE HOOPS THAT IT NEEDS TO GO THROUGH.

AND THE, THE CONSTRUCTION WILL ACTUALLY, BUT JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, WE ARE, WE'RE ALMOST RIGHT ON TRACK, OR I SHOULD SAY RIGHT ON TRACK, UM, WITH THE, UM, THE BIDDING PORTION OF, UH, THE NORTH PROJECT.

SO THAT'S A GOOD, JUST TO REITERATE, WE'RE PROBABLY LOOKING AT HAVING CONSTRUCTION THIS SUMMER, BUT WE'RE WORKING WHOEVER THE CONTRACT WILL BE, UH, WE WILL WORK TO MAKE SURE THAT SUMMER PROGRAMS AND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES DON'T GET INTERRUPTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION.

AND ANOTHER CELEBRATION TO PUT ON YOUR CALENDAR AND ANOTHER CELEBRATION.

UM, THE SECOND PROJECT WITH SOUTH, UH, WE'VE BEEN HOLDING, WE'RE STILL IN THE SCHEMATIC DESIGN PHASE OF SOUTH.

IT IS TRACKING, UM, BEHIND NORTH.

AGAIN, PARTLY BECAUSE NORTH IS SUCH A, A MUCH SMALLER PROJECT.

UH, WE'RE CONTINUING TO FIND THE AREAS, UH, WE ARE LOOKING AT.

STARTED TO LOOK AT ALL THE DIFFERENT, UM, HIGH LEVEL FINISHES, FURNITURE, AND DIFFERENT, UM, CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT, UH, TAKING PLACE IN THAT MEETING.

NUMBER THREE, WE ACTUALLY HAVE MEETING NUMBER FOUR SCHEDULED TOMORROW MORNING.

UM, FOR SAL.

UM, LAST MEETING WE REALLY CONCENTRATED ON THE TEEN AREA AND MAKERSPACE AND WE'RE GONNA LOOK AT SOME SNAPSHOTS OF SOME OF THE CONVERSATION, NEW AREAS, NEXT STEPS.

UH, WE SHOULD BE COMPLETING SCHEMATIC DESIGN VERY SOON AND MOVING INTO THE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PHASE.

UH, WE'RE STILL WORKING ON SELECTING AND REVIEWING ALL THE FINISHES FOR THE BUILDING, UM, AND CONTINUING MUCH LIKE THE, THE PROCESS THAT WE'VE TAKEN WITH ALL THE OTHER PROJECTS DO, DO, UH, ACTUAL TESTS WITH THE FURNITURE WE SELECT.

SO WHETHER IT'S GOING OUT TO A DIFFERENT LIBRARY THAT MAY HAVE SOLD SOMEWHERE AND DOING A SIT TEST OR HAVING ALL OF THAT FURNITURE REST TO BE ABLE TO DO SOME KIND OF TESTING.

DO WE LIKE IT? HOW DOES IT SIT? HOW DOES IT WEAR? AGAIN, THREE OUTTA THREE FIND IT VERY BENEFICIAL TO HAVE THAT, UH, GO THROUGH THAT PROCESS.

AND JUST TO, UH, REORIENT EVERYONE WITH SAL, WE'RE GONNA BE LOOKING AT THANK YOU MASON.

, UH, WE ARE LOOKING AT THE MAKER SPACE AREA, WHICH IS GOING TO BE THIS SPACE AND THE, UM, NEW TEEN AREA, WHICH IS WHERE THE NEW BOOKS ARE CURRENTLY.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS OUR ARCHITECT IS, WHICH IS SEVEN 20 DESIGN DOES, UH, PART OF HER PROCESS.

SO SHE STARTS WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF DIFFERENT HIGH LEVEL, UH, CONCEPTS OR DIFFERENT, UM, INSTALLATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE IN OTHER PLACES TO KIND OF GET OUR FEEL, WHAT DO WE LIKE, WHAT DO WE NOT LIKE? UM, WHAT, WHERE

IS OUR TOLERANCE WITH SOMETHING FUN AND FUNKY, UH, TO KNOW WHICH WAY TO GO.

UM, SO FOR THE TEEN AREAS, SHE WAS TRYING TO GET AN IDEA.

SO ADDING SOMETHING WITH SOME MOVEMENT WITH SOME CURVES, SOMETHING WITH SOME SOFTNESS, I THINK BE A REALLY COOL, BE ABLE TO DO.

UM, I'LL ALSO ADD THAT WE'RE TRYING TO, TO KIND OF SECTION IT UP INTO THREE UNIQUE AREAS OVER.

AND THERE'S LIKE A PLACE THAT YOU CAN, UM, GATHER AROUND, SOCIALIZE, A PLACE THAT YOU CAN STUDY, AND THEN A PLACE THAT IF YOU NEEDED TO DO SOME INDIVIDUAL, YOU NEED TO GET AWAY FROM PEOPLE AND BE ABLE TO STUDY OR TO HAVE Y'ALL.

HAVE Y'ALL EVER THOUGHT ABOUT ASKING THE GARLAND YOUTH COUNCIL FOR SOME FEEDBACK? OKAY.

UM, AND THEN WITH THE, UH, TEEN ADVISORY BOARDS, YEAH, UH, WE DEFINITELY TRY TO GATHER THEIR INPUT OR INPUT BEFORE WE, WE HAVE THE INPUT.

YEAH.

ONE, ONE COMMENT ON THE TOP RIGHT.

ONE IT, THAT ONE KIND OF APPEALS TO ME IN TERMS OF THE LIGHTING.

IT'S DIMMER LIGHTING, WHICH I THINK THAT AGE GROUP TENDS TO PREFER.

THE ONE ON THE LEFT IS REALLY, REALLY BRIGHT.

I MEAN, IT'S VERY COOL.

DESIGN LIGHTING OF COURSE CAN BE ADJUSTED, BUT JUST ONE THOUGHT.

UM, THEY TEND TO LIKE, KIND OF THE DIMMER YES.

LIGHT, YOU KNOW, THEY DO.

AND I'LL JUST, I LOVE THE ARTWORK IN THAT TOP, UM, BRIGHT ONE TOO.

SO WE, WE WANNA BE ABLE TO INCORPORATE SOME KIND OF ART, SOMETHING THAT'S FUN, THAT REALLY SETS, UH, THE TEEN AREA APART FROM THE, THE OTHER AREAS.

EXCUSE ME, JUST TO GIVE ANOTHER IDEA.

WE, WE LOOKED AT ART AS A, AS A WHOLE, UM, AND BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE SOME KIND OF TREATMENT WALL, WHETHER IT'S THROUGH RURAL, UH, KINDA LIKE WE DID AT CENTRAL, WHERE YOU'VE GOT THAT GARLANDS, UH, THE, THE LOCAL AUTHOR, AUTHOR COLLECTION, THE LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTION AND THE, THE GARLAND SPECIFIC COLLECTION.

HAVING SOMETHING LIKE THAT, BUT HAVING IT SPECIFIC FOR TEENS.

AND AGAIN, JUST VERY HIGH LEVEL, TRYING TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT DID WE, LIKE WE WANNA, UH, INCLUDE FOR THE VIDEO.

WE ACTUALLY LIKED A LOT OF WHAT IS HERE.

UM, ALSO WE ARE TRYING TO, WE STILL HAVE TO DO ESTIMATES, UM, FOR ALL OF THE FURNITURE AND ALL OF THE FINISHES.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DEFINITELY TRYING TO DO IS ALSO MOVE THE TEEN COLLECTION OUT OF THE TEEN AREA, UM, AND HAVE IT OVER KIND OF IN, IN PART, SO, YOU KNOW, THE ADULT, THE YOUNG ADULT COLLECTION IS POPULAR WITH ADULT OR THE, THE TEENS HAVE A, A SPACE THAT IS FOR TEENS, FOR TEENS ONLY.

UM, AND ONE OF THE WAYS THAT WE CAN HELP SURE IT'S THAT WAY IS IF THE, THE COLLECTION'S MOVED OUT ON THE FLOOR.

BUT, UH, THIS IS VERY SIMILAR SHELVING TO WHAT WE HAVE AT CENTRAL.

UM, IT'S BEAUTIFUL SHELVING.

LOOK AT IT, DO FOLLOWING THAT YOU CAN WITH, BUT THIS IS ALSO MOBILE, SO IF WE NEED TO MOVE IT AROUND, BRING IT INTO THE TEEN AREA, WE'D BE ABLE TO.

AND THEN LOOKING AT CHAIRS, UM, REALLY LIKED THE BERNHARDT DESIGN.

THIS WILL BE ONE OF THE ONES THAT WE EITHER GO TO A SHOWROOM SOMEWHERE OR SUSANNA WILL, UM, CONTACT THE VENDOR AND HAVE THEM SEND IT TO US FOR US TO BE ABLE TO SIT TO SEE HOW WE LIKE IT.

ALSO HAVE TEAMS AND SEE HOW THEY LIKE IT.

THIS IS A PRETTY COOL CHAIR, THAT VERY MOBILE.

I THINK IT HAS THE WHEELS UNDERNEATH, MOVE IT AROUND.

AND THEN IN OUR MAKERSPACE AREA, STARTING TO LOOK AT, UM, THE TYPE OF, UH, TOOL MANAGEMENT.

WHAT DO WE HAVE? HOW DO WE MAKE IT A SPECIAL? UM, AND ONE OF THE THOUGHTS WAS BEING ABLE TO SHOWCASE AS MANY OF THE DIFFERENT SMALLER TOOLS THAT WE WILL HAVE IN THIS, DOING SOMETHING SIMILAR OR SOMETHING LIKE BOARD UP ON THE WALL THAT WE CAN SAY, YOU KNOW, YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A HAMMER, YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOME TOOLS.

UH, IT'S ONE ORGANIZATION, BUT ALSO TWO, SHOWING OFF WHAT WE HAVE FOR PATIENTS.

AGAIN, LOOKING AT WHAT TYPES OF TABLES, UH, ARE WE GOING TO USE, WHAT TYPES OF STORAGE ARE WE GOING TO USE.

UH, IN, IN THIS CASE, WE'RE REUSING SOME CHAIRS THAT WILL IN GOOD SHAPE.

UM, AND CENTRAL AND WEST BOTH WE'RE INSTRUMENTAL IN PROVIDING SOME FEEDBACK FOR US ON WHAT TABLES HAVE WORKED IN THE MAKER SPACE, UM, UH, IN THE MAKER SPACE.

UM, BUT I THINK THE CONSENSUS IS HAVING, UH, A LARGE FLAT SURFACE IS, IS USE BONUS POINTS IF YOU CAN ADJUST IT UP OR DOWN.

AND WE'RE ALSO PLANNING IN THE MAKER BASE TO HAVE THE DROP CORDS LIKE CENTRAL.

IT HELPS ADD A LITTLE BIT MORE FLEXIBILITY.

ONE NOTE THOUGH, WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY SPECIAL VENTILATION SPACE, SO THAT WILL LIMIT US TO SOME DEGREE ON WHAT OF EQUIPMENT.

AND JUST TO, UH, REVIEW THE TIMELINE AND, AND I REGRET THERE IS A PHOTO WE HAD OF LIGHTING, SPECIAL LIGHTING THAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO FOR THE TEEN AREA.

UM, THAT'S A LITTLE FUN AND FUNKY, BUT THAT CAN BE THAT THE LIGHTING CAN BE ADJUSTED UP OR DOWN DEPENDING ON, UM, WE ARE CURRENTLY STILL IN THE SCHEMATIC DESIGN PHASE.

WE'RE RUNNING A LITTLE BIT, UH, BEHIND SCHEDULE.

UH, WE SHOULD TECHNICALLY BE IN DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, BUT WE SHOULD BE MOVING INTO THAT PHASE WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH OR, UM, AGAIN, THE GOAL IS TO HAVE ALL THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS OUT FOR BEND OF THIS CALENDAR YEAR WITH STARTING VERY LATE 26.

IF NOT, CAN WE GO BACK TO THE ARTWORK? MM-HMM .

WELL, AND IT'S, WE DEFINITELY WANT TO USE LOCAL TALENT DEPENDING ON WHAT WE DO.

IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A VERY UNIQUE SPECIFIC PIECE, AGAIN, VERY HIGH LEVEL, MORE THAN LIKELY WE'LL WORK WITH AMY ROSENTHAL.

I SAW ALL THESE COOL THINGS THAT I CAN MAKE FOR THE 3D PRINTS IN THE COMMON SHARE SITES.

HOW DO I CREATE MY OWN? AND THEN HOW FROM THERE, HOW DO I PAINT IT? HOW DO I COLOR IT? HOW DO I, THERE'S SO MANY, HOW DO I, THERE'S SO MANY THAT WE WANNA COVER BUT WE CAN'T GET TO IT YET.

UM, SO IT'S JUST A MATTER OF LIKE COVERING ALL THE INTRO CLASSES AND THOSE SAME TIME THAT WE WANT.

AS FAR AS THE NO SHOWS FOR CLASSES, I KNOW THAT'S HARD AND IT WOULD TAKE STAFF TIME TO DO THIS, BUT WOULD HAVE YOU CONSIDERED HAVING A WAITING LIST AND THE ABILITY FOR PEOPLE WHO SIGNED UP TO LET YOU KNOW IN ADVANCE THAT THEY CAN'T ATTEND? SO WE'VE ACTUALLY MM-HMM LEAVE OUR SOMEONE IF YOU FOLLOW.

THAT'S GOOD.

IT'S A CHALLENGE THOUGH.

IT REALLY IS , I MEAN WAY HARD FOR THERE I WAS LIKE, BUT UM, I ADDED THE NUMBERS.

BUT IN TERMS OF SINCE WE HAD THE MAKERSPACE STARTING AT CLIQUE, WE HAD 455 PATRONS THAT HAVE TAKEN AT LEAST ONE MAKERSPACE CLASS, UM, OF SOME SORT THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE ALL THE COMPOUND ONES.

'CAUSE WE DO HAVE A LOT OF RETURNERS THAT COME IN AND TAKE ALL THE CLASSES AT SOME SORT OR ANOTHER.

LIKE SHE SAID, WE HAVE OUR FOR WEST'S SLIDE, THIS IS THE NUMBER OF CLASSES THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE AND HOW MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN ATTENDED SINCE.

UM, AND INCLUDING THE NUMBER OF VISITORS THAT HAVE EITHER COME BY THE MAKERSPACE TO SHOW SOME KIND OF INTEREST IN KIND OF ASK, HEY, WHAT IS THIS SPACE? OH WOW, THAT'S AMAZING.

I CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK AND TRY AND GET INTO THESE CLASSES.

AND THEN WITH THE JUST LEARNING THAT THEY JUST HAVE TO HAVE A LIBRARY CARD JUST MAKES THEM EVEN MORE EXCITED 'CAUSE WE GIVE THEM SO MUCH ACCESS WITH OUR LIBRARY CARD ALREADY.

AND HAVING BE ABLE TO GET ONE OF OUR LIBRARY.

'CAUSE I'VE SEEN PATRONS FROM ALL OVER I THINK.

AND WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT MY EVENTBRITE WE HAD AND A FEW FROM DALLAS AND WHERE I KNOW AT ONE POINT I SAW ONE FROM BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, BUT I THINK THAT WAS JUST AN OLD EVENTBRITE REGISTRATION AND THEY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD, BUT THEY DID COME TO MY 3D PRINT CLASS.

SO HE IS A RECENT, I GUESS, UM, A RECENT RESIDENT REMOVING FROM NEW YORK OVER HERE.

SO HE WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THIS MAKER SPACE AND CHECK IT OUT .

SO AT CENTRAL, OUR CLASS NUMBERS AND IN THE NUMBER OF VISITORS GENERALLY, SO AS MENTIONED BEFORE, WE HAVE SOME INTER PROGRAM UTILITIES.

SO WITH THE MAKERSPACE IT GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF SHOWCASE OTHER THINGS THAT GOES INTO OTHER PROGRAMMING AS WELL.

UM, SO FOR US AT WEST, I WAS LIKE, WHY NOT CREATE OUR OWN LITTLE MAGNET FOR OUR GRAND OPENING DAY THAT'S SPECIAL JUST FOR US.

THAT WAS CREATED THROUGH OUR TINKER THROUGH TINKERCAD AND OUR UH, AMAZING MARKETING, LUIS THAT WAS ABLE TO CREATE THE DESIGN FOR US TO 3D PRINT THAT SO THAT WE CAN GIVE THAT TO PATRONS TO COLOR AND TAKE HOME AND HAVE A LITTLE MEMORY OF WEST FOR THEM.

UM, THIS WAS, THE SECOND ONE IS A INTEGRITY TABLE THAT WAS CREATED FOR A HOMESCHOOL LIBERATORY.

SO THAT WAY WE KIND OF SHOWCASED, HEY LOOK, WE CAN CREATE THIS FOR OUR PROGRAMS AND THEN SAVE SOME MONEY IN OUR SUPPLY BUDGET AS WELL.

UM, AND THEN SAYING, HEY, WE MADE THIS IN OUR MAKERSPACE, YOU WANNA TRY AND MAKE IT IN OUR MAKERSPACE? THAT'D BE KIND OF COOL.

AND, AND THEN WE HAVE A RACE CAR THAT'S COMING THROUGH OUR 1 2 3 STEAM PROGRAM THAT IS THIS SATURDAY ACTUALLY COMING UP.

UM, THEY ACTUALLY, WE 3D PRINTED THESE CARS AND THEY'RE GONNA GET TO COLOR ALL THESE CARS AND CUSTOMIZE THEM AND LEARN HOW ALL THE TRACTION AND EVERYTHING WORKS ON CARS AND VEHICLES FOR LITTLE KIDS.

SO IT'S JUST A MAD MADDEN OF I GUESS A LIMIT OF IMAGINATION IN THAT WAY.

IT'S JUST UNLIMITED IN TERMS OF WHAT WE CAN DO, UM, IN TERMS OF OUR VISIBILITY AND KIND OF PROMOTING OUR MAKER SPACE AND OUR PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME.

HOW DOES THE, UH, HOMESCHOOL, YOU HAVE A LOT OF HOMESCHOOLERS THAT COME IN? UH, WE DO.

YEAH.

I UNDERSTAND THERE'S A LOT OF GROUPS THAT ARE TRYING TO FORM OF PARENTS OF HOMESCHOOLERS THAT TRY TO GET TOGETHER AND IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE DOING? SO WE HAVE A PROGRAM THAT'S ONCE A MONTH THAT MISS DOROTHY DOES.

I'M YOUTH TO THIS LIBRARIAN AT THE WEST GAR LIBRARY AND I BELIEVE SOUTH GARLAND HAS A PROGRAM AS WELL.

THEY ALLOW, UM, HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES EXCEPT FOR HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES TO TRY OUT.

WE CAN BRING BACK JUST SPECIFICALLY A POWER.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE GOOD.

YEAH.

YEAH, BECAUSE THAT ONE'S PART OF OUR INVISIBLE FORCES PROGRAM.

UHHUH.

SO SHE MADE THIS ONE, SHE HAD ONES WHERE IT WAS MAGNETS THAT SHE COULD HAVE THAT WORKING.

UM, SHE HAD A WAX PAPER ON A VASE WITH THE SPEAKER INSIDE TO SHOW THE MOVEMENTS, THE WAVES OF THE SOUND WAVES.

SO SHE HAS DIFFERENT THINGS THAT SHE GIVES GUIDES TO THE PA PARENTS THAT SHOWS THEM THE BREAKDOWN OF EXACTLY WHAT IS THE, THE CONCEPT THAT THEY'RE TRYING TO TEACH AND HOW YOU'D BE ABLE TO DO THAT AT HOME.

SO SHE ACTUALLY GIVES YOU, BECAUSE THEY'RE ITEMS THAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND AT HOME, RECREATE THAT GRATEFUL AND

UH, WE HELD LEADERSHIP INTERVIEWS, UM, ON MARCH 16TH.

UH, WE SENT OUT FINAL QUESTIONNAIRES TO PARTICIPANTS WHO COULD NOT MEET IN PERSON AND WE'RE GETTING THOSE LAST, UM, QUESTIONNAIRES SENT IN THIS WEEK.

UM, WE'VE REVIEWED, UH, A FIRST DRAFT OF AN UPDATED COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT PLAN THAT'S A PART OF THIS OVERALL STRATEGIC PLAN PROCESS.

UM, UH, THE COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT TEAM, UM, HAS MADE A FIRST PASS AT IT.

WE ACTUALLY HAD A MEETING THIS MORNING WITH THE CONSULTANTS AND HAD SOME BACK AND FORTH SOME QUESTIONS.

SO AN UPDATED COPY OF THAT DRAFT WILL BE SENT OUT, UM, WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.

AND WE'RE ALSO WORKING ON A RETURN ON INVESTMENT STUDY FOR, UM, HOW THE LIBRARY PROVIDES, UH, UM, VALUE TO THE GARLAND COMMUNITY.

UM, WE'VE BEEN PULLING, IN ADDITION TO ALL THE OTHER PIECES OF DATA THAT WE PULLED

UM, AND THEN WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT THE MEASURABLES THAT THE STRATEGIC PLAN IS GOING TO, TO DOCUMENT.

SO IT'S, IT'S ALL FINE TO HAVE THE PLAN, BUT HOW ARE WE GONNA MEASURE SUCCESS? HOW ARE WE GONNA MEASURE, UH, MOVING FORWARD? WE ARE STILL HOPING KEYWORD HOPE THAT WE'LL HAVE A FIRST DRAFT OF THAT PLAN DELIVERED TO US BY MAY 20TH.

UM, BUT THAT'S GONNA BE, UH, PUSHING PRETTY HARD TO GET THAT.

SO ONCE WE HAVE THAT AND HAVE SOMETHING TO, TO PRESENT, WE'LL DO IT.

I THINK WE'RE STILL LOOKING AT A SUMMER, UM, PROBABLY MID SUMMER, UM, ADOPTION PRESENTATION AND ADOPTION OF THAT PLAN.
