Interview for Appointment to GHFC The Garland Housing Finance Corporation (GHFC) has a vacant position on their board of directors. Information was posted on the City’s website requesting that citizens interested in serving on this board submit a Boards and Commissions Application to the City Secretary’s Office by September 8, 2009. One application was received from Philip Burke. Council will interview Mr. Burke. Also, the terms of Board Members Hector Cardenas and Delores Elder-Jones have expired. Mr. Cardenas and Ms. Elder-Jones have expressed a desire to be reappointed. Council will consider the appointment of Mr. Burke and the reappointment of Mr. Cardenas and Ms. Elder-Jones at the September 15, 2009 Regular Meeting.
Request from GHFC for Funding The Garland Housing Finance Corporation has requested that the City consider providing $74,000 towards the demolition costs of the Miller Garden Apartments.
Marketing/Events Committee Report Council Member John Willis, Chair of the Marketing/Events Committee, will provide an update on the Committee’s discussion regarding the City’s participation in a July 4th event in 2010.
Nomination of Candidate to the DCAD Board of Directors Council is requested to discuss the process for nominating a candidate to the Dallas County Appraisal District Board of Directors. The City of Dallas, Dallas Independent School District, and Dallas County may each appoint one member to the Board. Each of the incorporated cities and towns, except the City of Dallas, shall have the right to nominate by official resolution one candidate as the fourth member to the board. The said cities and towns shall, from among the nominations received, elect by a majority vote (with each city and town being entitled to one vote) a member to the Board of Directors. Nominees for each entity must be submitted to the Chief Appraiser by October 15, 2009 by formal resolution. If Council concurs, this item will be scheduled for formal consideration at the October 5, 2009 Regular Meeting.
Nomination of Candidates to the CCAD Board of Directors Council is requested to discuss the process for nominating candidates to the Collin County Appraisal District (CCAD) Board of Directors. The City of Garland will have one vote to cast in the election for the Board of Directors for the CCAD. Each voting unity may nominate one to five candidates. Nominees for each entity must be submitted to the Chief Appraiser by October 15, 2009 by formal resolution. If Council concurs, this item will be scheduled for formal consideration at the October 5, 2009 Regular Meeting.
