Governor’s Gang Initiative Grant Texas Governor Rick Perry recently announced a $4 million grant program being released to eligible jurisdictions throughout the State that had been identified by the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security. These funds were allocated by the Governor’s Office to increase law enforcement presence, in a uniformed overtime capacity, in order to assist the selected jurisdictions in combating transnational criminal gang activity in targeted areas. The Garland Police Department was selected as one of several major metroplex cities to receive funds under this Gang Initiative Grant and has been authorized for total funding of $225,000. Update on DART’s Legislative Agenda The City of Garland’s DART Board Representatives will brief Council on DART’s legislative agenda for the 81st Session of the Texas Legislature. As partners in fulfilling regional transportation goals, DART is asking member cities to support their legislative initiatives by Council resolution. This item is scheduled for formal consideration at the December 9, 2008 Regular Meeting.
Electric Standards for Consideration Per Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 Staff will brief Council regarding a request to consider approval of a resolution establishing a date for a public hearing to be scheduled by December 19, 2009 in order to consider certain Public Utility Regulatory Policy Act and Energy Policy and Conservation Act Standards in accordance with the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. This item is scheduled for formal consideration at the December 9, 2008 Regular Meeting.
