#GarlandStrong/Long Term Recovery Update As of March 20, 2017 the #GarlandStrong fundraising effort to support long term recovery from the December 26, 2015 tornado has raised $152,298.86. The Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC) has disbursed a total of $70,092.52. Additional cases are still pending but are expected to be considered and closed within the next several months. The LTRC is considering an appropriate timeline for discontinuing general activities, as well as how to use any #GarlandStrong funds that might be left unused.
Resale of Tax Foreclosed Property The City of Garland has received two offers related to the purchase of City owned property obtained through a Sheriff's Sale. The properties are located at 405 Little Lane and 601 Ford Street. Staff recommends Council accept the offers and sell the properties. Unless otherwise directed by Council, this item will be scheduled for formal consideration at the April 18, 2017 Regular Meeting.
Consider Request to Produce Nonprofit Special Event, Cinco de Mayo; and, Request for Financial Support from the Special Event Assistance Fund to Underwrite a Portion of the Event's Production Costs The Garland Association for Hispanic Affairs and Carlos Porras of Dos Banderas Restaurant submitted a request to produce a two-day event, Friday, May 5, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., to conduct a special event that will celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Council is requested to approve the applicant's request to designate their event a "Special Event."
Consider the Adoption of the 2017 Rules of Order and Procedure and Council Policies Council is requested to adopt a final version of its rules of order and procedure and Council policies which will govern Council meetings, interactions, and other activities. A revised draft version of the rules and policies is attached.
